Had breakfast here this morning and Kevin was our server. Great diner food and quick service with a smile. I ordered bananas with my pancake and there were like 4 slices but as they put it down Kevin was already on it to get more lol Hubby got shrimp n grits and said they were delicious with creamy grits but needed a bit of seasoning. We shared the pancake and it's definitely huge but I wouldn't say it's a hubcap unless it's a small tire. Nice flavor, average pancake overall. Egg platter with white cheese grits and wheat toast. I have been watching this diner on social media and finally had time to take my grandson and daughter with me to have breakfast! The parking lot is small but there is plenty of street parking-you may to just walk a little bit (allows more calories at breakfast)! We didn't have a wait to be seated outside and it was a beautiful morning! Our server Rebecca was amazing-she had a great personality and took good care of us! My daughter ordered an omelette with fruit and toast and it was such a generous portion she shared it with my 2 year old grandson! I had the burrito buster and it was huge but delicious! We came here for the outdoor seating since have a little dog with us. The weather was perfect this morning so perfect location for sitting outside & in the shade. The food is consistently good, I had an egg white omelette that was outstanding with their famous potatoes and my honey had two fried eggs with potatoes. Let's talk about their killer potatoes- they roast them then cut them up and then either pan fry them or bake them again. They are perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. So good! Small diner but cute with historical local stories and memorabilia in the tables and on the walls as you enter. Small parking lot maybe fits 15 cars so keep that in mind when coming to visit. I wanted to try the chicken and waffles but they don't have 100% real maple syrup which is always a deal breaker for me, p.s. offer it for an up-charge ;) This I landed on chicken and biscuits and they were delicious. The chicken had a nice peppery and flavorful breading. I do wish more sausage gravy came with the meal... why because I wasn't expecting 2 biscuits with the split breast. Moved to St Petersburg Gateway neighborhood about a year ago. Drive past Trips on 9th often, finally decided to stop in for breakfast another time for lunch. Solid place both visits!! I had the meatloaf dinner with real, skin--on mashed potatoes, rather bland collards, great garlic Texas style toast. The sauce on the meatloaf was tasty, but I would have preferred a bit more zip and the collards lacked the depth of flavor found in real southern cooking. The meatloaf itself was at least a full half pound and was jucy and full of assorted flavors. The iced tea actually tasted like iced tea. The price Mas reasonable at $13.95. The ambiance was that of a typical dinner. The service was friendly and efficient. The place was packed and parking is space. Major disappointment on the salads. Was really looking forward to a crispy romaine salad and instead got soggy wilted lettuce, not worthy of eating. Also, adding to my disappointment was trying to eat my meal while fighting several flies going for my food. I'm eating inside in A/C, so why I'm being attacked by flies? We heard that Trip's Diner was the place to go in downtown so I went there last night and had the Fried "Steak", two scrambled eggs, hash browns, and rye toast. The so called Fried Steak was a thin piece of mystery meat with an odd flavor tacked on, my eggs were room temperature, the hash brown were barely warm, but the toast was good. It is always crazy packed the 3 times I have tried. This places an incredible pressure on kitchen and servers with hundreds of variations in orders and personalities. I am 0-3 actually getting what I ordered. What I received has been this far good enough to not write it off when I am in the mood for their offerings. Also REALLY depends on your taste preferences...I am vegetarian so many items offered I am not interested to consume... it appears to be a carnivores oasis. Looked up options for breakfast in the area before driving to Fort Myers and this cute little diner did not disappoint. Mostly traditional menu with a few seafood items sprinkled in to keep with the Florida vibe. Everything was cooked perfectly. The decor is classic with framed photos from the past with a nod to the local area. Our waitress was nice, attentive and quick to help despite running multiple tables the entire time we were there. If you don't want to wait for a table they do have a few seats at the counter that are first come first serve. They also have a nice patio area for those who want to sit outside. If you are in the Tampa/St Pete area I would recommend a stop here for breakfast, brunch or lunch just don't expect anything bougie, it's diner faire at its best. read more

First time at Trip's I was at the Tampa location. I had the Reuben. Very good. Pleasantly surprised. I asked if I could substitute my side for the collard greens and they said yes! I also got a small order of the onion strips. They were fried very thinly sliced onion rings. Also very good. They came with a dipping sauce called lemon horseradish. I wish I knew how they put that together. It was so good. Sometimes when you call the restaurant they will tell you how to make it and in what proportions. I was with three other friends and we sat on the patio. We were there for I swear two and a half hours catching up. We were never hurried or rushed even when most of the lunch crowd had left. Trips is a great little place. There is outside seating so depending on time of year...you have that option as well. The food is homemade and delicious. It's in a residential neighborhood so the parking is a little difficult especially on the weekends. I would recommend the Big Breakfast, Corned Beef Hash, and the Avocado Toast. Went here for a second time and it was even more delicious than the first; we got the Crab omelette with home fries and an English muffin, shrimp and grits, and a plain and blueberry pecan hubcake. All the food was ready in about 20 minutes or less, our waitress was funny and nice, my shrimp and grits were super good, cheesy, and warm, with a good amount of shrimp and bacon. The crab omelette was a little fishy, wouldn't get that again, the home fries were nice and crispy though. Lastly, the Hubcakes were HUGE, biggest pancakes ever, maybe 12x12" at least, very tasty and id for sure get them again. I'd love to back!! read more

We went for a coworkers birthday this week because we were all craving breakfast. I was excited, as I had never been to this St. Pete diner staple. I ended up order the Big Breakfast, which was in fact BIG. It came with a giant pancake, turkey sausage, eggs and cheese grits. Everyone's order came out fast and delicious. Most of us could not finish our plates. The pancake was fluffy and eggs were cooked perfectly. The grits were serious business and THICK. Service was great, also, and I liked that despite being a diner, it was still light and airy with an outdoor seating area, too. The price point was just right for a diner. The menu is VAST with something for everyone. At our table, there were omelettes of varying sizes, a huge burger, chicken sandwich, meatball sub. They also have pasta dishes. They honestly have everything. The only downside was at the end when we went to check out. The server correctly gave us our proper checks but when we went to ring everyone's order out, they accidentally charged some of us for the incorrect items. Because of that, it took quite a while to get out of there. It's probably a non-issue for smaller parties though. read more
