Coming over from St. Pete Trophy Fish is a new addition to Seminole Heights area. This replaced Bodega and was smartly designed to maximize space with a large bar and more tables. You first order at the counter and they give you a number for you to sit at your table. When I went it was a little busy but there were two seats left at the bar. I got a refreshing cocktail while we waited for our food. I got the mahi mahi sandwich grilled with a seasoning, it was the fish of the day. You can check their menu and choose how you want the fish seasoned and cooked. The sandwich was good but the two chunks of fish kept breaking apart and made the sandwich messy. The yuca fries were good but they needed an aioli or something to dip other thank ketchup because some of them were dry. Overall it was a food meal bit prepare for it to be pricey since its seafood! read more

We were looking for a new place to eat and stopped by Trophy Fish. We liked the concept of the place. It's supposed to be like you're at home on your porch, just relaxing, eating, drinking, and watching TV. The pros were that the food was really good. The bartender gave us the lunch specials for the day, and we decided to go with his recommendations, we were not disappointed. One meal was a lobster roll with fries. The other was the fish of the day with a side of the coleslaw and trophy taters. The coleslaw has pineapple in it and was very good and refreshing. The cons of this place were that there was very little interaction with the staff. We were told when we walked in that the servers do not come to you at the tables for your orders. Any food or drinks you want, you have to go to the bar to order. That was fine. We ended up just sitting at the bar. We were ready to oder and told the bartender we were ready. He went to the computer to put the order in as we ordered. However, the computer was about 7 seats away from where we were sitting, so we had to yell the order. We each ordered a drink and only got the one drink, not because that is all we wanted but because we were never asked if we wanted more. Again, I understand the bartenders don't come from behind the bar but we were sitting at the bar and they kept walking right in front of us and saw the drinks were empty, both the waters and the alcohol drinks. We tried interacting with the bartender, but he just was not having it. There was no personality, no smiling, no conversation. The drinks were good and we wanted more, but when you feel like you are a bother to the employees, then you really don't want to keep staying there. read more

Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 = the prices. I legit spent $148 here BEFORE TIP (me and my wife). Started off with 2 drinks. A salty dawg and a margarita. Fantastic drinks. Great service. Awesome atmosphere. Cannot complain. It was lunch time and we were hungry. So I got two fish tacos (mahi mahi) and my wife got two fish tacos (red grouper). I can't lie. These were the best fish tacos I've ever had. The fish isn't like chopped up or small. No, it looks like a whole filet on your taco. I love the actual taco shells. Something about them kept them from getting soggy from the juicy fish. The pickled red onions are always a great choice. The mango slaw was phenomenal. And the spicy Mayo was legit. Loved the tacos. BUT, and it's a big but ... I believe for 2 tacos and a side (we got rice, and corn), came out to about $30 each. So $30 for my tacos and $30 for my wife's tacos. $60 in tacos is more than I spent on Wagyu beef tacos in Austin, TX. It's just absurd. We got a half dozen chargrilled oysters ($17?) as well. We're suckers for chargrilled oysters. Worth it. We ordered two more drinks to help us get over how much we just paid for fish tacos. And this is where I had one of the best drinks I've had in A WHILE - the Aloe-Ha. Incredible. I'd go back to enjoy the awesome outdoor atmosphere, the chill vibes, the amazing reggae music, the perfect Florida weather, and the expertly crafted cocktails for sure. If I could give it a 3 and half I would great attentive service. Really cool boat life vibes. But the food was a bit of letdown. Grouper with citrus rub was okay but was under season and need the lemon amd sauce. Sides corn salad was good, the potatoes were well cooked but under seasoned. chimicurri sauce was good not great. Surprisingly I really enjoyed the hush puppies although thier not quite your traditional seasoning. The dipping sauce with them were probaly highlight. In the end was worth 40 bucks. Five stars for Ian the bartender! The primary reason we come to Trophy Fish is for the great service and brilliant drinks from Ian. The restaurant vibe is a lot of fun - very tropical, laid back, and relaxing. The bar is gorgeous. The owners did a great job updating this space. But the reason we keep coming back is Ian. He's amazing! He's friendly and super knowledgeable about drinks and mixing cocktails. The drinks on the menu are fun (my fav is definitely the 'If You Like Pina Coladas') - although if you're craving something else, no worries, Ian can craft something to your liking. He's creative, intelligent, and experienced - there have been many times when I've only provided a alcohol base that I want and let him come up with the rest - and I have yet to be disappointed with one of his drinks. For a new restaurant the atmosphere was beautiful. The service was great as well however the food was subpar at best. We got there right as it opened at 4p and I ordered the snapper with the house made citrus sauce, pineapple coleslaw, coconut rice pilaf and yucca fries. Food wasn't even room temperature. The coleslaw does have potential but seemed like it was made 2 days prior, the fries were cold and extremely hard, the "coconut" rice was basically prepackaged yellow rice with coconut shavings and the fish was edible but it also seemed like it was made early in the day and probably sat under a heat lamp all day. The appetizers were decent, we had the fried street corn and the grand central oysters. The pistachio drink with rum was definitely the best thing I've had in a while. Very busy place early on a Saturday evening. You order food at a counter. It's credit card only and they start a tab for you. When you're finished, you go back to the cashier or to the bar to close out. They give you a number and bring the food to your table. Drinks are ordered separately at the bar. If you want water, it's self serve. They had two types of fish, Mahi Mahi and red snapper. We both had the snapper with citrus rub and it was excellent. I had the pickled pineapple tartar sauce. It was good, tasted like tartar sauce, but I couldn't detect any pineapple. Sides were coconut rice and veggies all good. We got a side order of hush puppies, which we didn't care for. The food in this place sucked an don't go until the sun is starting to go down, because all they have is fans to attempt to keep you cool. My group tried numerous items from the menu and all was horrible except for the boiled peanuts. What ever the hell BBQ sauce and the Mignonette sauce was terrible on the oyster's should not be allowed in any seafood restaurant that serve oysters! I tried the fish spread and they brought me out staled bread two times. I told them and then they brought me out staled crackers. They have the nerves to tell me they was fresh made today. The bartenders were good, but they can only serve what is brought to them from the kitchen for the customer to supposedly enjoy. Food to me is rated 1 star. If they drop the boiled peanuts it will be a 0. How they are getting 4 or 5 stars is ridiculous to me. Obvious someone is adjusting the ratings If you can't make it pass the shareable. This is a trendy addition to the Heights neighborhood, and offers mid priced seafood. It does fill a void in the local restaurant scene for the area. However, although the fish tasted fresh and we were pleased overall, the portions were on the smaller side and the prices were rather steep when you combined the portions with the level of service. Keep in mind that all the seating is outdoors. There is no indoor seating area that I could see. Patrons order food by waiting at the bar, and a server brings it out to your table. We had to reorder drinks by returning to the bar (not sure if it is like that all the time, or we were just there on a busy night). Drink prices are also steep (similar to Mandarin Heights). Watching the budget? Stick with local beer. read more

First off - very happy to have another food venue in the neighborhood. Having said that...we were underwhelmed. We ordered the hush puppies, a side of yucca fries, roasted oysters, fish dip, and a blackened snapper fish with pineapple coleslaw. Hush puppies were just ok - not a great flavor profile and very dense - I would not order again. Yucca fries - heard they were the "best" - not so much...they were hard and again lacking in flavor - I would not order again. The oysters were decent BUT the topping was almost too much as in a TON of bread crumbs - love charbroiled oysters - will go to Ulele when in the mood. Fish dip - although not as traditional as most (could see the mayo and had red peppers etc mixed in) I would order it again and especially liked the pickled vegetables. And lastly the snapper sandwich - the thin fillet doesn't stand up to the buns thickness and in general the fish itself was again just ok - for $29.50 (note that whole red snapper runs about $12.00 a pound) one would assume it to be really good - nope and would NOT order again. The side or the pineapple coleslaw....needed salt and FLAVOR - one bite and done! The folks next to us had the peel and eat shrimp which were very large which is a plus. If I / we ever go back we'll stick to the fish dip and peel and eat shrimp only. I think we tried enough to know that most things won't rise to the level of "really good". Maybe a new chef is in order - perhaps mean but true - sorry chef! read more
