This spot offers a ton of different options that go beyond smoothies like wraps and bowls! I ordered two açaí bowls and made some substitutions. My go to smoothie place in Astoria. I love their detox island green- it has lots of greens, has slight ginger taste and it's so refreshing. On my way to work this morning, I saw that Tropical Smoothie Café has finally opened here in Astoria. This is my first time in a Tropical Smoothie Café. I found out that they are a chain with hundreds of locations nationwide. Their newest location opened yesterday on busy Steinway Street next to Prince Tea House. It's nice to have more healthy food options here. The menu offers made to order salads, sandwiches, flatbreads, wraps and (of course) smoothies. They also have vegan, gluten-friendly options and a kids menu. I ordered a Sunrise Sunset smoothie and an All American Wrap. The Sunrise Sunset smoothie is made with strawberries, pineapples, mango, and orange juice. It was really refreshing, slightly sweet and tangy, thick, and delicious. Their regular size is pretty big, and I had trouble finishing this. I thought it was a good bargain for $4.99. Unfortunately, I didn't feel the same about the All American Wrap which consisted of eggs, bacon, cheddar and mozzarella. It was also $4.99 and it tastes fiber but the portion was kind of small. I would probably skip their Breakfast options and stick with other items like the flatbread which looks amazing. I'm planning on trying that on my next visit. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The only location in New York City area. Limited selection but have entree and smoothie options. I like the healthy minimalist menu. I ate the açaí bowl and drank sunset smoothie. The açaí was decent, was a lil frozen than smooth but delicious assortment of toppings. Definitely will order again. The sunset has heavy citrus taste due to ingredients. I drank it with their edible strawberry straw ( saving the environment). This should be a thing. Since I needed the vitamins, this smoothie was a decent option. I enjoy getting smoothies from here frequently, the smoothies I choose usually come out pretty good. I like to go here in the mornings and afternoons so I usually see different staff. I think the staff overall is pretty welcoming except this one lady who works PM shifts. I have been there while she is on shift multiple times and I have gotten ignored and have gotten very reluctant service. I understand that everybody has their bad days, but I've waited more than 15 minutes for a drink while sitting right in front of the pick up spot; she has even gone to the back and not come back. I've had to call for somebody from the back to ask for my drink which was placed in the fridge as if I ordered online. Great place to grab a smoothie! I like the Detox Island Green the best and also the Acai Berry Boost. They had the morning happy hour special of 50% off the smoothies before 10am, such a good deal. The flatbreads were just ok. That's more of a side meal. The smoothies are the main thing. They have a few tables for eating and drinking there. It wasn't too crowded. Comfortable enough to drink the smoothie there. You order first at the register in the back. Sometimes there's a short wait to order. The wait to get your order is a little longer, especially if you're ordering more than one item. They also have an app you can preorder for pick up and also earn rewards. read more

Stopped by here while I was in the area to pickup a smoothie. There weren't that many people inside at the time so it didn't take too long to make my smoothie. One thing that was off putting was there seemed to be a problem with the door, so the entrance glass doors would slam really hard whenever someone came in or out, so much that it seemed like the glass would shatter any minute. The workers didn't seem phased by it so not sure when that'll be able to get fixed. read more

This place is super clean and cheerful, but the smoothie was awful. I went in because they have a half off deal from 7-10am and it's a great bargain. I got a strawberry banana smoothie and was asked if I wanted sugar in it. I said no because I've never had anyone ask me to add sugar to a smoothie - fruit is sweet on its own. It was the most foul tasting smoothie I've ever had. It was not sweet at all and kind of bitter. I get the same kind of smoothie at Uncle Drink on Steinway all the time and they DON'T add sugar and it's amazing. I didn't get any protein powder or anything else added so how could the taste be so off? I literally took two sips and threw it in the garbage. It was a total waste. I'm glad I didn't pay full price for a bad experience. I will not be visiting this business again in the future. UPDATE: The company sent me a $6 gift card and I gave it a second try. The smoothie was just as disgusting as the first time and ended up in the trash. Came here on a weekday after work because I was craving for a healthy drink. Tropical smoothie cafe is located not far from the Steinway station so I decided to give it a try. Ordered the drink ahead on their mobile app so I didn't need to wait much longer. Decided to get the detox green smoothie because it has both veggie like spinach and kale and fruits like banana and pineapple. The staff is very friendly. However, the drink tasted very watered down. It looks green but I couldn't taste the ingredients at all, I think the proportion might not be right and it does taste like water. My friend got the peanut smoothie. It tasted VERY sweet, too sweet.. I see they have a deal for $3.99 a drink between 7-10am. Not sure if I should give it another try though. read more
