We went to this location today and I was disappointed with the food we ordered my husband chose the caprese chicken and it tasted like refrigerator from guacamole from the chicken tasted old . I had the Santa Fe quesadilla wasn't that great but we finished it. I can say the smoothie was great. As a vegetarian their "beyond meat" meatless chicken on the chicken pesto flatbread is amazing! I really really love that in combination with a refreshing smoothie after a run at Umstead Park which is right down the road. Well, I held off on writing this review until I noticed a trend. Without fail, the Tropical Smoothie Cafe on Bass Pro Lane makes something very simple (making a smoothie and quesadilla) seem nearly impossible. After several opportunities, the crew here repeatedly makes a 4-minute task take more than 20 minutes. It's insane. What's worse is that you can watch as your cashier takes your order and turns to begin working on it-- but wait, they have to have a full blown conversation with a coworker about weekend plans while you and everybody else waits patiently for their food. Every time I've gone in, I watch the young workers (mostly in their 20's) sing along with their tunes on their headphones as they stroll around the kitchen in what must be the most inefficient method ever conceived. It got to the point where I put in mobile orders 15 minutes before I arrived... nope, that didn't work either. I still ended up waiting while one employee worked at a snail's pace and the other three either watched him drone through the task or actively tried to distract him with worthless gossip and banter. Thanks for once again demonstrating why the food service industry should be replaced by robots as soon as possible. read more

Absolutely delicious. We got all three tacos - very good. Korean BBQ was spicy but it had cucumbers in it which balanced it out. My son had a quesadilla that was so cheesy and huge. I had a buffalo chicken wrap which was amazing. Very reasonably priced too. read more

Amazing and healthy smoothies not sugary or bland at all. I just wish they will used organic fruit. I haven't tried the food here but I don't think I would either because it doesn't look appetizing looks more like frozen and not fresh. But I come here at least once a week for a smoothie and I'm always impressed I stick to the fruit smoothies only so I can't speak for the chocolate ones. read more

Foist off, I want to speak on the awkward high school girls they have on the register, They over charge me 0.74$ for substituting toppings also I don't get welcoming vibes when I approach to make my order. I normally get the Bahama mama which, comes with white chocolate. The white chocolate is the main ingredient that makes it so good and this location always skimps on the amount they add in the smoothie. That's why I am giving one star read more

I will never eat at this particular Tropical Smoothie again simply because of "management". I found a piece of hair in food which was no big deal until I spoke with the manager.I contacted the store and spoke with the manger and he seemed very sarcastic. I asked the manager if they could use hair nets when they prepare my food and the manager stated that they "can't do anything to prevent finding hair in my food and is one of those things that just happens". Once I got to the restaurant, I noticed that there were numerous employees with extremely long hair preparing the food. I'm pretty sure if a health inspector stopped by and saw this they would be forced to do something with their hair. (I.E. wear hair nets). When the manager came to the counter he provided me with a free smoothie and free sandwich to resolve this issue (which I will take to another Tropical smoothie, if applicable). Once again, I will never eat at this particular tropical smoothie again simply because of the "management" and how he showed a complete disinterest in preventing hair from getting in their products. read more

DONT GO HERE. Oh boy, where do I begin.... I truly tried to give this location a chance, but the workers here don't care about you or the quality of food. They are paid minimum wage, so I dont expect them to act super friendly but I do expect to get what I paid for. The last time I was there, I didn't get my smoothie. I ordered it and then watched people who came in way after me leave with theirs. I asked about it, and the workers looked at me like I was stupid. Showed them my receipt and they said they would make it. 20 minutes go by and still no smoothie. Waited another 5 then left without it. I ordered a quesadilla too and when I got home and opened it, It only had 5 pieces of tiny shredded cheese and 2 grey rubbery pieces of chicken. This isn't the first time I walked away from that place angry but it will be the last. There were also people waiting as long as I did for online pickup orders that the workers were just ignoring and only handing a select few people in line! The place wasn't too busy and I've been there when there were only 3 customers and they still messed up my order. Don't waste your time. read more

Most well-done steaks I've ordered in fine dining restaurants come out quicker than my smoothie here. I ordered a basic smoothie off of the menu and waited 21 minutes. The staff worked with no sense of urgency and two ppl came back in because their smoothies were made incorrectly. The only good thing is the menu has a great variety, but in the future I will be visiting other locations. Hopefully this was a one-off experience. read more

Smoothies tasted great, after we got the correct order. I ordered the rockin raspberry, yum!! A soft spoken employee (not the same one that took our order) came out with 2 smoothies and walked straight to my husband and I. She quietly spoke and when we didn't hear what she said my husband pointed to me and said "she got the raspberry". The employee then handed us each a smoothie. As we walked out we each thought they didn't taste a thing like what we'd thought we'd ordered but when I finally saw that the smoothie names were written on the cups we turned around and headed back. As we opened the door, another couple and the woman who took our order exclaimed that "we took their order!". We just got glares as we threw them out and accepted the correct order. I found that the way it was handled was rude on all accounts and that they need a better system of execution. The smoothie I was given was labeled "acai berry boost" (not raspberry). I can only assume it had some sort of caffeine added. I am pregnant so I am not to drink caffeine. The one my husband was given was labeled "whey", which is something some people are highly allergic to. Please be careful people!!!! read more

DO NOT go if you're looking for any kind of Customer Service! If you want extremely slow and RUDE service this is your place! I placed a mobile order ahead of time knowing that my order would be ready when I arrived. At least, that's how it is at other locations. However, we ended up waiting several minutes anyway because they "never saw the order." When I called to speak with the manager the phone rang at least 30x before it was picked up. After speaking with Matt (the assistant manager) he immediately stated that they only answer calls if they can. I'm not sure why they take phone orders or mobile orders then that are to be treated as priority. He was flippant about my overlooked order and complaint so I asked to have the store manager or owner call me. Only to be told she was walking in as we spoke. Being that it was the store owner Kathy that I next spoke with I would have thought she would have been concerned about the way her store was being run and her customers are treated. Instead, she proceeded to call me "dear" (in a condescending way) numerous times, challenge me on my business, not get any of the facts correct (including the date of the occurrence) which had just happened. So, there would be no way for her to have me "listen to their side of the story." On top of telling me to listen to her and she "was going to get the chip off of my shoulder." As a former employee in retail, as a business owner and most importantly as a customer I know that you NEVER speak to customers the way Kathy and her employee did today. Since they are independent franchise owners it's a shame that corporate can't do much. However, at least corporate knows how to handle customers properly. read more

I'd like to start by saying I love to food here and I also loved working here 5 years ago as my first job. My experience today was horrible tho. We called 4 times before we arrived so we could pick up our food and go quickly. They did not answer any of my calls. When we arrived after we were served our food I asked the cashier whether they still took orders over the phone or not and he said yes. So I told him that we had called four times and he immediately snapped back saying that they have been ridiculously busy for the past hour, understandable. What's not understandable is that they ignored 4 calls. I responded to the cashier by saying in the future I would feel like a valued customer if they politely answered the phone and placed us on a brief hold or even said they were busy and were unable to take orders by the phone. Not to mention, the rude cashier also happens to be the manager on duty. I will not be visiting this location again except to talk to the owner. read more

I always come to this location because it's very convenient but I think I will just stick with harmony farms for smoothies. Ordered a chia strawberry banana boost smoothie and it was super gritty in texture with a bitter after taste. Ive ordered this smoothie every time for months now, so I'm aware how it normally taste. One of the employees offered to remake it, which I accepted but it probably took no less than 2-3 minutes to bring out a "new" smoothie. The new smoothie still had the strange after taste, it was just accompanied with a super sugary taste. Like they just dumped sugar in the old smoothie and reblended it. I've never had to request sugar for this particular smoothie due to the ingredients being mostly sweet already. My spinach pesto flatbread was great, as usual, but not enough to make me want to return. Overall experience and lack luster employees was meh. read more

I absolutely love the food here! It's delicious! A coworker and I eat here atleast 3 times a week. The manager has been on the register a few times when we've gone in and she was extremely friendly and personable. The employees there are always smiling and always in a good mood. The good: The staff is friendly and seems on top of things (helpful with questions, no pressure to order, repeats order back to you) Smoothies are good (we've tried about 8 different options) The food tastes fresh, whether you go for a sandwich, tacos, flatbread, or wrap The meh: As is usually the case, you're paying to eat relatively healthily - two food items and two smoothies will put you close to $20 if not over. If this seems a bit too high, there are other options in the plaza but nothing as good for you. In the past 6 months or so, this location - and others - are perpetually out of certain food items. If the items are discontinued, change the signage to indicate it (and consider replacing with new items). If in fact perpetually out, inventory control needs some work. You don't actually save $$ by ordering 3 tacos instead of 2; the per taco price increases by ordering 3 The frustrating': There's no great place to wait for to-go orders, which can lead to clusters of people in front of the registers during the morning rush where it's unclear who's waiting to order, who's waiting to pick up, and who's being indecisive about their choices. Adjusting the flow shouldn't be challenging. You can swap things in and out of the smoothies (no custom options or build your own are mentioned); maybe post something somewhere about this? It might help when most of a smoothie sounds great but one ingredient gives a customer pause. read more
