This is the worst tropical smoothie I've ever been to. I started off with the typical online order that I usually get, my card states it's declined then proceeds to charge my card but not place the order. Being said, I go inside and try to ask for help and the front people had no idea what was going on or how to help, without a solution they just stared at me for minutes straight not even attempting to problem solve. The lady tells me "oh it'll probably refund you just replace the order" but without confirmation I did not want to. After waiting a few minutes trying to figure out what to do, they said oh your order just came in. They proceed to hand me someone else's order. So then they stared at me again silent with no suggestions and I ultimately ordered a new order after being there for 30 minutes. I placed my order and the lady at the front puts it under "cat" rather than my real name Caitlyn. Are we too lazy to acknowledge people's names?? After they proceed to give me my smoothie which is the most tasteless ts I've ever had and the lady makes my quesadilla and proceeds to THROW IT TOWARDS ME onto the counter top. Talking some "here's your quesadilla *toss*. Not to mention she did not ask what chips I wanted and proceeded to hand me a random bag, which is not what I would've wanted but I elected to walk away. Never once did I blame these employees for the system malfunction as of course it's not their fault but the utter lack of problem solving and respect overall was ridiculous. Treat your customers better. I have also yet to receive a refund. It was not worth the 30 minute wait. read more

I'm assuming the manager, is super friendly and always has great customer service. There's a girl there with red hair, she's also pleasant but the others I've seen here are typically just nonchalant or cold. The food is good and smoothies are always good. Main complaint is I work fast paced and have to be in and out, I always order ahead and do a curb side pick up & it's usually a decent wait by the time I get here & call to say I'm here, even though I order well ahead. They also do not have a designated curb side pick up location so more times than I can count, people will wander the parking lot clueless with my food because there's too many vehicles with a similar description and no way to show you're in a curbside area. I I love tropical smoothie, but I don't really frequent here because I make smoothies at home alot. Tropical smoothie had "National flip flop day" this week, so I figured why not take my entire family to get a complimentary smoothie. We live about a mile from the location in Greenbrier so it was a short commute here. The location always reminds me of local spots in the carribean, and the decor is the same. The staff is always professional. They were actually packed this day due to the free smoothies they were giving away but the staff moved swiftly and got everyones order to them rather quickly. My family all had the same smoothie they offered and it was yummy as usual. We made a fun little outing of it sipping on our smoothies and chit chatting which we never really sit in any fast food location so it was a nice change of pace. All in all if you want a delicious smoothies this place is it. read more

The Indian man behind the counter who claims to have worked there for 9 years refused to substitute a single ingredient in my smoothie. The other locations have no issues with my mobile app order. And when ordering there on the spot, they take forever with your order. I hope to hear from the headquarters at Tropical Smoothie Café to discuss. We have several family/friends who support Tropical Smoothie Café, & our experience was awful & unacceptable. It was my partner's very first visiting a Tropical Smoothie Café, & he shared that he is not interested in visiting another café. Our experience at the Tropical Smoothie Café (VA089) was deplorable. My partner & I visited this location last Saturday (6/5/21) at 3:53:13 PM. We ordered the Acai Berry Boost & the Detox Island Green w/very little ginger. The staff who took our order & presented us with our beverages were professional and kind. After tasting our beverages, the Acai Berry Boost was very tasty, but the Detox Island Green was not -- it was too much ginger for my liking. We asked one of the employees if we could exchange the Detox Island Green for another beverage (Acai Berry Boost) & the employee said "yes." HOWEVER, after he retreated to the back of the store, we overheard the employee explaining the situation to the owner/manager. The owner/manager immediately raised his voice explaining to the employee that he (the owner) made the drink correctly & that he would handle it. The owner/manager came out & we again asked for an exchange & explained why (as shared above). I also thanked him for making my beverage, but I still wanted to exchange it. He proceeded to explain (over and over again) that he made the smoothie correctly according to the label on the drink. He elevated his voice, kept pointing to the label and repeating himself. I shared that I understood his explanation...but, it was still too much ginger....& I wanted to exchange it. The owner/manager was visibly unhappy with my response & he continued to explain (very loudly) that he made the drink correctly & an exchange was not allowed. The owner/manager stated that he was losing money by agreeing to make another drink. He continued to argue & talk over us confirming his position. My partner was taken aback, & we decided that we wanted a full refund. Period. The owner/manager already had my drink, & my partner placed his drink on the counter. Well, this infuriated the owner/manager & firmly told us that we were not getting a refund. After adamantly refusing to remake our smoothies & a lengthy discussion, the owner/manager finally said that he would re-make my drink (Detox Island Green), which I no longer wanted. At that point, we were exhausted & simply wanted a refund. He stated over & over that we were not getting a refund and yelled, "GET OUT OF MY STORE! DON'T EVER COME INTO MY STORE AGAIN! CALL CORPORATE!" My partner was very upset & told the owner/manager that he needed to learn how to treat his customers. He also told the owner/manager that the entire situation was absurd -- all he had to do was exchange the drink. The owner/manager made the situation go from a manageable issue to an elevated problem which encouraged me share my experience. As the situation proceeded, my partner left the store & I calmly remained in the store standing at the counter & asked for a refund of $12.80. The owner/manager insisted that I was not going to get a refund. After repeatedly requesting a refund he gave me a refund and screamed, "HERE! NOW OUT!! DON'T EVER COME BACK IN MY STORE AGAIN!" We left, went a few stores down to another franchise, were treated with respect & received samples before ordering! That is how you treat customers! Due to my previous experience at another Tropical Smoothie Cafés (Norfolk, Monarch Way - closed now), I encouraged my partner to try a smoothie from this chain. I was initially excited, but this excitement changed to sadness, quickly. We will NEVER go to this location again. Tropical Smoothie Café please remind your franchise owners about the importance of GREAT customer service; especially now. We are returning to a new normal & businesses are able to open up fully (what a blessing?!). Customers represent your brand & your company values. It's essential to "show people respect, & be polite" (Sewell, 2002). Good customer service encourages loyalty. Data has proven that no matter the cost, customers will return as long as they are happy with the service. We encourage the founders, & the "Seasoned Franchise Experts," of Tropical Smoothie Café to do some research & look at the customer reviews on Yelp, Google, Facebook, etc. Just from our experience, it was a loss of $12.80 -- multiply that amount times the number of reported issues (including an estimate of unreported complaints) which leads to substantial lost profits. I have read other reviews and unlike them, my experience here was quite pleasant. After ordering my smoothie, I got it within 5 minutes which actually surprised me. Whoever prepared my smoothie, I have to give kudos to because it was properly blended and I wasn't crunching on ice the whole time while drinking it. I opted for a chicken wrap that had more way more wrap than chicken....I wanted a soda but all they had was bottled water...don't care for fruit, and the only other side was BBQ chips. My grand daughter and she put an order for our lunch. We got to the restaurant and picked up our order. We drove home in 3 minute she pulled her drink out of the drink carried and the bottom came open on her drink . The contents of the drink spilled out over the family room rugs. I decided to try this place our after hearing about it more than once. I wasn't that impressed. I ordered a Thai Chicken Wrap. It was just "Ok."...nothing to write home about. The lettuce inside the wrap was not "fresh"; a bit brown around the edges of most of the pieces. If they advertise fresh food then I think they should deliver on that. I am a fiend for smoothies! Tropical smoothie is one of my favorite places to go to..specifically this one! In comparison to other tropical smoothies, they pack up the wraps and that's a huge deal breaker for me. I have never been disappointed with their smoothies, but they are a bit pricy. I only come here once in awhile just because of the price. The smoothies and the wraps are such a good combo. They always have random deals throughout the year such as a happy hour for flatbreads! I highly recommend the Bahama Mama smoothie when you're craving more of a "desert smoothie." It's my favorite one to get, but I love them all! The manager (Tina) is terrible she yells at the workers and is rude to them. I will never buy if she or her husband are there because they are cheap with the ingredients. They are cheap with paying these young workers, making the service times long because they are always understaffed and underpaid especially when they have to deal with rude customers. The online ordering is delayed not because of the employees but probably them not being up to par on their technology. I had been using the App for probably a year plus before they even got theirs. This location is unfortunately the closest but will go elsewhere to get better quality for what I'm paying. This review is for the Kempsville Road location only. In general I love Tropical Smoothie, but I usually avoid this location, despite it being close to my home. I've never seen an adult around, this place is run by irresponsible teenagers who are always talking loudly to their friends, playing music, and ignoring customers. Today was no exception. The counters and floors were very dirty and sticky, and looked like no one bothers to clean. The tropical chicken sandwich I had tasted like it was made with the chicken/seasoning they use for Jamaican jerk wraps, and wasn't good at all. If I could give zero stars to this particular location I would. Went in yesterday for lunch and noticed the store didn't look quite as organized and inviting as other Tropical Smoothie locations. The music coming from the kitchen was blaring and I could see that the kitchen itself looked very cluttered. I ordered a buffalo chicken bowl and a Health Nut smoothie with Splenda instead of sugar and whey protein. The chicken in the bowl was left in huge chunks. When I drank the smoothie I noticed the consistency was different than normal but I thought maybe they didn't blend it well. WRONG! My stomach started to feel upset and after about twenty minutes I realized the smoothie was made with sugar. I can NOT have sugar like this due to surgery and medical issues. I spent the rest of my afternoon at work with major GI issues due to them not paying attention or caring what they were doing. I went back after work with my receipt that showed what I ordered and asked for a manager, only to be told she wasn't there. The only people there were teenagers. I left my info, but have yet to hear a word. While this was my first experience at this location, my husband has previously said he will never go back to this one. Now, neither will I. I'm from Southern California, where good, organic smoothies flood the market, and so I kinda expected to be a little dissapointed. With that in mind, it's possible that I was a little biased. A couple quick inquiries revealed that most of their fruit is neither local nor organic, but I can't hold that against them too much as it is probably to be expected. However, I have been a little underwhelmed by their behind-the-counter staff. My very first time in their a couple months ago was excellent service, friendly face, willing to help, cheerful, but since then I have been disapointed. I felt like the people taking my order wanted to punch some numbers in the register and escape the conversation as soon as possible (impatient and frustrated come to mind as descriptors for their attitude). Nothing extremely rude or anything just nothing close to exemplary, probably would go as far as to say less than average. I do like their flatbreads but for the portion and quality of food it seems a bit pricey. Overall a good place, I've been frequenting it to get my smoothie place and I rarely leave disapointed. I called the Tropical Smoothie at Plantation Lakes on Kempsville Rd today to place an order to be picked up. The woman who answered said, "ya, hang on for a second". First of all, the "ya" was unprofessional at best, but I "hung on" for 3 minutes before I hung up. There are many Tropical Smoothies in the area, so Mount Pleasant store got my business and I was very happy with both the service and the food! Will certainly be back!
