I moved to Tallahassee not long after the first Tropical Smoothie opened in 1998, and because it was right down the road I was a regular customer. That's never changed, I love this place and their smoothies. I've watched them go from a couple small, smoothie only places to an establishment with a great overall choice of sandwiches, etc. to compliment their smoothies. I've eaten at the ones all over Tallahassee and Jax, and this one in Gainesville, and this one should lose their franchise. I've been there 4 times (that tells you how much I love the smoothies) and EVERY time I've had chunks of ice in the bottom and smaller ice throughout the smoothie. They are also just poorly made with an "unequal" taste of ingredients. I know I've had over a 1000 Tropical Smoothies - at least - over the last 18 years so I'm an expert when it comes to this place. What's worse is that the owners & staff are just awful - the service is bad, their attitudes are "Oh well, I don't want to be here anyway," and good luck getting a "Thank you." I say this because I'm a huge fan of Tropical Smoothie and this particular one gives the business a bad name. They don't participate in promotions, don't honor other things (like the discount for your Tropical Smoothie cup) and act like they've never even heard about them. The 24 hour bit is not a good idea for this type of place, either. That it gets 5 stars from anyone tells me that students these days don't have a discerning bone in their body, and care more for the free WiFi and seating to study, sober up, or whatever. Just another example of a typical university town establishment that caters to kids and drops its quality because they have a steady customer base. TLDR: Very good smoothie place that's open nearly any time you need it to be. Whenever I'm passing through Gainesville, Tropical Smoothie is one spot I'd go to for a healthy pick me up before I continue traveling again. It's great that this place is still going strong even after a couple years after I've graduated and moved on from Gainesville. If you're traveling through, it's located about a mile or so from I-75 the Archer exit so it's a solid option to take a break at. It's located towards the back of a huge plaza so parking shouldn't be an issue here. I can't speak on the food here, although it does look delicious and I've heard many good things about it. The smoothies are definitely really good here and are pretty affordable. In case you're really hungry, they do have some deals if you order both food and a smoothie to help save you some money. I'm pretty sure it's marked as a popular smoothie on the menu, but the Sunrise Sunset is the smoothie I usually order here. read more

I may have just caught them on a bad day, but the staff was not fast, accurate, or knowledgeable. It took me almost 30 minutes to get a wrap and a smoothie. I specifically asked if the hummus wrap had dairy on it and the woman said no, and when I got it there was cheese all over it. I've only ever gotten one thing and it has been consistent at every location of tropical smoothie I visit. That in my opinion warrants an across the board review of 4 stars to every branch I try. I've tried their other smoothies at smaller venues and events as promotional give aways and they usually don't disappoint. The smoothie I always order is the acai berry boost with no strawberries and it is amazing. Not too sour and not too sweet and you can drink it till you get brain freeze and it will be great. I sometimes cannot finish the whole thing and will decide to freeze it for later so portion sizing wise for a $6-7 smoothie isn't too bad and it's quite filling. It is a nice place to study although cold and not many outlets so I'd suggest bring a jacket and headphones as many others decide to come as well. I'm pretty sure they're still open 24/7 during the school semester. If you like to study late, from 2-5 smoothies are a $1 if you are a resident of stoneridge apartments. read more

Not worth it. Especially in the case you are looking for something healthy. We juice at home everyday and know that natural juices and smoothies need no additional sugar, but in the case of Tropical Smoothie Cafe, sugar is a standard ingredient. I would suggest asking for the sugar to be removed if you are going to venture in for a taste. The sugar basically makes the smoothie a dessert. Best part of our experience was the ridiculous response from the young man who showed up late for work and treated us like idiots because we inquired about an unnecessary ingredient. I really love coming here when I want something fresh. They have a variety of wraps (my favorite is the Chicken Habenero and the Asian Chicken) and they also have sandwiches for the non - low carb people (to be honest though I have never tried a sandwich here). They also have a huuuge laundry list of smoothies with every flavor imaginable and if you are looking for an even more low-fat alternative, you can ask them to use only Splenda instead (it really doesn't change the taste much and is still very good, but a lot less calories). If you eat any shade of the paleo diet, this is one of the few places you'll find good alternative and options. They have pea protein which is good if you want to avoid whey. Needed a pick-me-up after moving into my new apartment on my own. First day in Gainesville! Found this place next to my apartment complex. Although I was disappointed to discover even their green & superfood smoothies were made with sweetener or Turbinado, I asked for it plain, and received a deliciously drinkable large smoothie (almost a little too large!). They had a decent assortment of vegetarian options in terms of food, and although I only got a hummus wrap (which was satisfying w/ rice and beans), you could substitute any of their chicken dishes with a meatless chicken alternative. This is the best smoothie place but THE WORST service. Every single person that was just in there with me was complaining about it.

I have a 2-part review as there is a huge dichotomy between the quality of food and service. First, the food... fresh, tasty, and pretty much awesome. The sandwiches are always fresh and the smoothies are delicious (especially the Island Green). Only complaint about food is that sometimes the "field greens" on my sandwich are mostly fat, bland stems instead of actual leafy greens. But I would still eat here a few times a week if not for the second part of my review. Second, the service... bad, just bad. Half the time, they make a mistake on my order; not a huge problem unless you are lactose intolerant. Literally half the sandwiches I've ordered had either cheese or ranch on them when I specifically asked for no cheese, no ranch and I told them I was lactose intolerant (so they would know it's not just that I don't like it, it makes me sick). You cannot remove ranch dressing from a sandwich... I've tried. Or they forget something, like the side items. Or they let you stand there for 10 minutes (not exaggerating) waiting for your order that you called in 10 minutes before you got there, and when you tell them you have to go because you're going to be late for work it turns out the sandwich has just been sitting there on the counter with other orders, but the staff doesn't communicate with each other nor do they have any kind of system in place to ensure accuracy and efficiency, so they didn't know it was ready. If not for the horrible service, this would be a 5-star review. It is a shame to have such a great product, but such poor service. They would have a lot more business if they either hired better staff or properly trained the ones they have. read more

Overall I gave it 4 stars cause it's an awesome place to study at when everywhere else is closed in the middle of the night. They sell sandwiches, panini's, wraps, and smoothies which are all a plus when you want a night time snack and want something fairly healthy. I love Tropical Smoothie. I have been going to this place for the two years I have been in Gainesville. But, it is one of the many inconsistent restaurants in Gainesville. My smoothie is always good, except for today, but my wrap is not. It is either way to much or too little on everything. It is never hot enough. I did the restaurant biz for 8 years. Stood at the counter for 15 minutes with no acknowledgement, not even a glance from employees. Line started forming behind me after 15 minutes, I then ordered -- and then 5 people after me ordered. This location is terrible. I keep going back to see if I'm just having freak experiences or if they are consistently terrible. Yup, they're just bad. I hate saying that about a business but it's sadly true. I called ahead (because I was going to work and didn't want to wait in line) to pick up a smoothie. I go in, I see my smoothie standing on the counter. I had the cash in my hand, but it took me fifteen minutes to pay out and I was late for work. There was only one person ordering ahead of me? The second time, we got 2 smoothies and a sandwich. We didn't get anything for 30 minutes because the person making the food in the back was in the bathroom! While the girl at the register was just standing there, watching us wait. Anyone who's in the bathroom for thirty minutes when they are the only person "making" the food, needs to reprioritize. It shouldn't take 30 min for a microwaved sandwich. (Yes, their food is microwaved). Both of these times, there were no other patrons in the store. They weren't even busy. So do not come here if you have any plans within the hour. And they certainly won't reimburse you for the time and money you wasted! read more

I was off work today and had a craving for an asian chicken wrap from Tropical Smoothie. My girlfriend and I went around 1:30pm when it was completely dead, maybe 2 customers throughout. Upon entering the establishment we were greeted by the cashier, slumped over the register with her fist to her cheek. No formal greeting was given, as she mumbled "What do you want today". We asked for a second to look at the menu before proceeding with our order. I ordered the asian chicken wrap and my girlfriend asked what came on one of the sandwiches, since the main menu does not list the ingredients. The RUDE cashier, caught off guard by the question, successfully but rudely answered the question. My girlfriend ordered her smoothie but didn't want to "disturb" the girl by ordering a sandwich, minus a few toppings. As they called out our name for the order to come pick it up from the counter, the lady threw the sandwich on to the counter, making another waiting customer catch my wrap so it wouldn't hit the floor. Although the food is good, the portions are trash, and the customer service is easily the worst in Gainesville, possibly Southeastern America. DO NOT GO HERE.
