I had a pleasant breakfast at Tropical in Orlando. The Chocolate Pancakes and the Breakfast Taco Bowl were both delicious and well-prepared. The atmosphere is very clean and quiet, making it a solid choice for families looking for a relaxed meal. ​The staff was incredibly friendly and the service was prompt. However, be prepared for the price tag. Side items like home fries and bacon are over $5 each, which adds up quickly. First, the resort is very nice! Tropicale is a restaurant available for breakfast. They have very friendly servers and welcoming staff. I chose to get the buffet for the array of options. The same items in the buffet are available for the a la carte choices. Buffet is $35/pp. I sampled small bites of the majority of the items to provide a good review. I live in the south so I enjoy a good bowl of grits. I would not recommend the grits. They're not made with love the way I'm accustomed to eating but the protein options are plentiful including smoked salmon which was delicious btw. There's an omelette bar where you fill out a slip and tell the cook how to prepare it with lots of add-ons like peppers, onions s, mushroom, cheese and protein. There's a large amount of fruit choices too. Practically anything you want. The carbs are on overload. Pancakes, waffles, toast, oatmeal, potatoes, yogurt, parfaits with all the toppings. There is also cereal for the kiddos. Beverages are water, milk, juice, coffee & various teas. There's soothing music playing so it's enjoyable and relaxing. We have been staying out at the Caribe Royal Orlando for a conference and visited Tropicale, located inside the resort, for breakfast. We had one of the best orders of Eggs Benedict ever! The server took care of us well, and our order came so much more fast than expected. I made the mistake of booking the Thanksgiving brunch for my family at Tropicale at Caribe Royale. From the moment I arrived, I knew my reservation was a mistake. I didn't like the small eating area where patrons were eating. People walking on the lobby level could look down and see patrons eating. I didn't like that. The buffet was not impressive. They had salads, some soup, and other uninteresting foods in the eating area. They also had a few Asian foods close to where the omelet station was setup. The omelet station was confusing, as some chefs were requesting our table number while others just asked guests to check their ingredients on a card. The omelets were nice but there were few additional breakfast items, so I was unimpressed. This didn't matter, as I came for one thing: seafood. The shrimp was good, the horseradish was fresh, and the cocktail sauce was cold and tangy. Unfortunately, what should have been the star of the show, fresh shucked oysters, were anything but! The oysters were deplete of any plumpness and oyster liquor. In fact, most of the oysters had been improperly shucked, cutting the abductor muscle and leaving it with the oyster. This made the oyster very chewy and unpleasant! I was not interested in any of the other dishes, including the traditional Thanksgiving foods. The desserts were not creative, either. The best thing I had was a deconstructed ice cream dessert that was topped with little candy pearls. Next year, I will return to Shingle Creek. read more

Had the breakfast buffet. Figured it would be reasonably priced. That was an incorrect assumption. $33.64 for the buffet. Nothing special- sure there's a large selection but... $33.64? That's not quite accurate- the buffet is $27.00 which, is still absurd; with an 18% service fee on every check... even for a table of one. I suspect, if pressed, they would call it a gratuity but I don't suspect 100% of it rolls down to the staff. read more

We went for the Christmas buffet during our stay at Caribe Royale. I have to say, for $50pp, I was not entirely impressed. Our waitress and the rest of the staff were fantastic, though the hostess and other people at the station were a bit rude, having a conversation instead of greeting us. I assumed it was simply because they were trying to figure out tables, even though we had a reservation. The cheese table was good. Nice selection of cheeses, cured meats, dried fruit, hot and cold smoked salmon, oysters, shrimp, fruit, etc....and an ice sculpture! There was an omelette station that we did not try. Salads were many and all were just okay, sushi was sub par...then we got to the mains. There were quite a few mains. 1 or 2 vegetarian, and then all different types of meat. I tried a bit of several, and none stood out to me as particularly flavorful or delicious. I would think that it would be better to do 3 mains very well than 8 mediocre ones, but I digress. There was also a carving station. I didn't bother trying it. The dessert table was the shining star of the buffet (though it still did not make it worth the overall cost). So many gorgeous desserts, done very well. Bravo to the pastry chef! read more

I visited Caribe Royale for the Spooky Empire convention, and the food choices were severely lacking. Rather than spending $10 on food from a heat lamp, my friends and I decided to walk around the hotel and see if we could find something a bit more palatable. We checked out the menu for the Tropicale and decided it sounded far more appetizing than whatever was available at the convention. Granted, it was a little overpriced for what it was (it is a hotel restaurant, after all), but at least the quality was good. After verifying that the turkey was oven roasted and not smoked, I decided on the turkey BLT (and requested the bacon to be extra crispy). It came on a delicious ciabatta bread and the turkey was shaved - just as I like it. I really enjoyed my lunch, and my friends were happy with their meals as well. If you're at Caribe Royale for a convention, don't put up with the crappy, overpriced food at a kiosk (seriously, the offerings at Spooky Empire were laughable... $10 for a hot dog!). The Tropicale was a worthwhile stop for us, since we paid just as much as we would have at the convention, but for much better food. read more

I ate from their breakfast buffet which allowed you to eat the following: pancakes, French toast, grits, eggs, breakfast potatoes, bacon, as well as an assortment of pastors and cereals. The food was good for buffet standards...I also have in the past ordered room service from the hotel for breakfast which must take from here since the to order items are the same. The breakfast is good...not extraordinary mind you but does the job if you want to have the convenience of eating in at the hotel. The service, though, is a bit on the frost side. It's more about getting you service and then getting you out... no smiles. I even had to ask for some help getting some silverware and finding out where the butter and it felt like I was bothering them...they need to work a bit on customer service. read more

The food is downright terrible. The only thing that tastes fresh is a custom omelet order. I ate here three times now, all three were bad. The sausage is chewy and made me gag. The cream cheese tastes old and sour. The potatoes are mushy and taste like they were made yesterday then reheated. If you are satisfied with an omelet and bacon, you're in luck because that is all that is good here. So many options a short Uber away, don't come here. Service is good, ambiance is fine, very early 1990s, but who cares really. Don't order breakfast cocktails, worse than the food. read more

Good place to eat if your staying at the Caribe Royale, especially for breakfast. If you're on foot, there are no other options outside of the hotel. During our stay, my 18 year old son enjoyed the all you can eat breakfast buffet while I ordered from the menu. If you like a big breakfast, the buffet option may be your best bet but since I wouldn't be able to consume $20.00 worth of food, I went with breakfast items on the menu for 5-6.00 less,my favorite being the Bagel and Lox (thinly sliced salmon and a bagel, served with cream cheese, red onions, tomatoes, sliced boiled egg, and capers). Terrible options an food combinations. My friend and I ordered a salad with salmon to start. Never have I had such an old piece of salmon on my plate. I guess since I did not even have the option for the salmon to be cooked medium rare I should have seen this coming. The fish almost tasted like a metallic cardboard. Thank goodness the vegetables were somewhat fresh since my friend and I did not get sick the next day. As for our entrees, we ordered their grouper with purple mash and hollandaise sauce. It seems like a restaurant trick to make us full and satisfied, but it did the complete opposite for me. The mash was so unnecessary as it did not add any substance to the fish. Luckily, unlike the salmon, the grouper was quite tasty by itself. The hollandaise sauce was an interesting choice of sauce. I would honestly skip the dessert here at The Tropicale. My friend and I shared the lava cake expecting to finally get satisfied after our dessert. Boy, did we think wrong. There was no lava chocolate cake as no filling oozed out. The vanilla ice cream was also cheap ice cream that taste like sugar ice water... Never again. I might as well fast when I'm in Orlando. read more

The food is overpriced and the quality is not good. My family ordered two sirloin steaks, the crispy fried chicken and a kids pizza. The sirloin cuts were tough although the steaks were cooked to order (medium rare). The fried chicken was so dry and tasteless. We ate the mashed potatoes...that was our dinner. Needed some place to eat as I was on a work conference, So my coworkers and I tried this place for dinner and we we're please with the service and the food. It wasn't that crowded, Vin was our server for the night and he made sure that we had everything we needed. I ordered the steak with fried and coleslaw and it was cooked to perfection and seasoned well. I also tried the key lime pie which was really good and spot on . This is located inside of the Caribe Royale. We stopped here for dinner one night, trying to keep from leaving the resort to find food in the area. The service was very good. Past the service the quality stops there. I ordered a burger cooked medium. There was no pink left at all in the burger. The outside of the burger was somewhat crispy. Definitely overdone. The bun was crispy and crusty on the outside. With a stale taste to it. The fries were fresh and hot, but they are grocery store, Ore Ida Zesty fries. I could recognize them anywhere. One thing I wanted was removed from menu, so menu here is not up to date. I ended up having the $26 sirloin dinner. It started with rolls, these soft rolls are just like ones in grocery store, nothing special. Butter pats on plate look like seashell shapes and does not melt, probably lard based. Thought the description said I was getting carrots. I got one tiny carrot that was peeled and several steaming hot small potatoes that were just average. Broccoli was about 3 thin thin stalks, that was more stalk than edible portion. Guess I wasnt impressed. I dont normally eat "fancy" but was staying at CR hotel for a conference. As others have stated this restaurant is inside the lobby tower building of the Caribe Royale hotel and convention center. I stayed at the hotel for a conference and had dinner with a colleague in the restaurant. Overall the look and feel of the place is fine. There are booths and tables with white table cloths. The wait staff are dressed a bit more formal but the patrons were mostly wearing regular attire--many were conference attendees so you get the idea. They do not have an extensive dinner menu-essentially it is one page and you can find it online. I had the salmon salad (~$16) which was fine. In my experience salmon prepared in restaurants almost always taste the same--sort of bland and flavorless and this was the case however the salad greens were fresh and the raspberry/chipotle dressing tasty. That along with a couple of Vodka tonics totaled around $37 so definitely consider other options if you are price sensitive. Overall I think the place is fine and convenient if you do not want to or are unable to leave the hotel for a meal. read more

PROS: The service was excellent. CONS: Sorry everyone, you are stuck in this hotel; while the service is exceptional, the food is overpriced and at best mediocre. I will say that I only visited the Tropicale restaurant (for breakfast, lunch and dinner). The only other choices are bar food or the "really expensive" restaurant called The Venetian. I cannot say if they have the same chef as the Calypso. Examples: Breakfast: I had Eggs Benedict: The hashbrowns that came as a side were crispy on the outside but greasy on the inside and were tasteless. The eggs benedict were over "medium" not easy. The yolk should be runny to coat the English muffin so when I cut into it (it kind of disappointing). Also the Hollandaise sauce was definitely off. Any decent chef should know basic sauces. Overall, the order was not worth the price. It was a very mediocre experience. Dinner: I ordered the lobster ravioli which was, again, very disappointing. I'm not even sure the lobster in the pasta was legit. The hotel did put real pieces of lobster on the salad (maybe I should suggest just a small lobster tail with a salad since the "real" lobster pieces were quite tasty). It is your typical hotel food.....overpriced, average, and basic. The service was good when we were there for lunch. The fries were nice, and the burger was decent. Avoid the gumbo, it is not anything you know gumbo to be at all. Honestly, if you have a vehicle, you could do much better getting yourself off property and heading to a Disney Springs restaurant, or Holler and Dash for breakfast/lunch. The ketchup must have been expired because the flavor was really bad. This meal was close to $100 with tip and a total waste of money.
