Best night ever . Live music , chicken francaise. . The highlight of my Lauderdale vacation.

Oh Tropics, we love you but tonight you gave us the best night and also some disappointment. Franser Pazos was performing with Rick Leonard, someone I was unfamiliar with. He has performed on shows like the voice and he was fantastic and he was with the best pianist in Ft Lauderdale, Rick Leonard. Maybe one of the best shows I ever saw there and it wasn't even a full house. But oh my, we ordered the mussels appetizer, crab cakes dinner and sirloin steak dinner. The mussels came out pretty fast and hot. They were very good and we enjoyed them. Then came our dinners. They put them down and they looked fabulous on the plate, I thought, yes, they got their act together in the kitchen. However, the first bite for both of us revealed that they were lukewarm. The cheese in the loaded baked potato was solidified, the steak room temp, crabcakes barely warm, onion rings luke warm and soggy. It is our opinion that this food was prepared well but did not get served soon enough. It look great, tasted great but wasn't hot. Very disappointing. This is a problem that should be able to be resolved. Perhaps you need food runners or something. Or maybe more waiters. read more

This appears to be a great happy hour bar, with a restaurant as an after thought. The server was impatient and didn't want to wait for us to review the menu and decide. Once we ordered our food, it was brought to the table in less than 5 minutes! Chicken Piccata, Chicken Marsala, & Meatloaf. Both sauces on the chicken dishes were extremely thick - life never seen anything like it for a lemon sauce! My meatloaf wasn't even warm! It's obvious these are reloaded foods and quickly heated (or not ). The rolls were small and plain - and unfortunately half were so hard we could hammer them on the saucers and they didn't budge. I tried soaking the roll in the mushroom gravy (that was room temperature like the meat), and that barely made a difference. We pointed this out to the server and the comment was, "yeah, they're mixed in." Not sure what THAT meant unless he meant uneaten rolls are added in to new baskets. The Pinot noir wine was room temperature, not even slightly chilled. Very disappointed for a first time here, and certainly won't risk coming back. What really made the night even more disappointing is that we specially came here for the after dinner entertainment piano bar, and was even informed we would need to pay $10 per person to get in (in addition to dinner), which was fine. But then we were informed by the server that the cabaret was closed for a private party - something that should have been comminicated at reservations. read more

First, let me say that the service and the entertainment was fantastic this evening. I went with two friends to enjoy Tropics long time Tuesday prime rib special which unfortunately has been discontinued. My mistake was ordering surf and turf, which was of poor quality. My friends ordered shrimp, cocktail, muscles, and wings. Those were good. I would go back based upon previous experiences; but if this were my first time there not so much. read more

Eight of us showed up for Friday happy hour. The three bar areas were seriously packed! You had to squeeze through the crowd. Although our group is mostly in the 50-65 range, we felt like spring chickens. The bar successfully caters to senior citizen gay gentlemen, and now we know where they all go. The main dining room decor is still too grandma pastel and fake Greek column ambiance for my taste. The other two cocktail and cabaret areas have a more swanky vibe with red velvet drapes. We came here for dinner awhile ago after their reopening. The food was ok and reminded me of Chef Nate's across the street, although the entrees tasted better at Chef Nate's (he used to be chef at the older Tropics). Yesterday four of us came for singer Ralph Meitzler (who is actually a professional theater performer and bartender) and accompanist Christopher Hamblin. We had several rounds of cocktails which were well made. Our server was very attentive and friendly. We selected several appetizers on the menu but the kitchen was out of them. On a Tuesday? We ended up with the Buffalo chicken wings (standard pub fare), salad (same), egg rolls (very good, and not Asian as you'd think), and fried calamari (not good, not crispy, kind of soggy). No problems with the cabaret, and I'd say probably one of the best singer and pianist combo of entertainers I've heard in the gayborhood. Both have fun personalities and kept the pop and Broadway standards (old and new) show going. We thought we'd stay an hour, and we enjoyed it so much we stayed the whole 2+ hours. Everyone told us we should go to Tropics. I ordered the sirloin steak. I received undercooked salisbury steak. It was awful. Garlic mashed potatoes were powdered. Mixed vegetables were frozen, limp and cold. The worst meal I have ever eaten at a restaurant. Shame Shame!! read more

A Great multi room venue, piano bar, nightclub, restaurant. Great food, great specials, great shows, great themed events. I've had dinner many times & the food has always been excellent, chicken Parm, lasagna, short ribs, ribeye pork chop, scallops, spaghetti, and meatballs. Always great entertainment with singers, karaoke, open mics. A favorite spot for me. read more

Tropics Restaurant & Lounge - Wilton Manors I've been to Tropics a few times and while the atmosphere is lively and the service friendly, the food quality continues to fall short. On a recent Monday visit (half-price night), I ordered fish and chips. It arrived in under 5 minutes--too quick, and it showed. The fries were cold, and the battered fish was soggy and greasy. The server did bring back warmer fries, which I appreciated, but the dish overall lacked freshness. I'm not writing this to bash Tropics, but to encourage the kitchen to take more care. Food should be served hot and crisp--not rushed. With a bit more attention to quality, Tropics could really shine. Hoping to see improvements on my next visit. read more

Just an epic fail on all counts. I don't bring high expectations here, as most of this food is like having a decent meal at an assisted living facility. In the past I've had reasonably priced meals that were ok. Last night we gambled on the $54 surf and turf special, with loaded baked potato. Service was comically slow. The waiter was pleasant but utterly incompetent. The place was not busy. There were only two other tables in our room, which is often full. When I say slow, I mean more than an hour between salad and entree. When they came, identically ordered dishes came with two random, different sides, and no potato. One came correctly medium rare, as ordered, the other came incinerated, along with its lobster tail. Neither came with drawn butter. We simply sent one order back and they agreed without argument to remove it from the bill. The requested drawn butter never came, and 10 minutes after all this two Sort of loaded baked potatoes came out, looking dreadful and improperly presented with half the ingredients on it and half on the side. The waiter clearly hid in the kitchen most of the 2.5 hours we were there. He showed no awareness, obviously didn't pay attention to the order, and probably didn't write it down because he was oblivious to the random plates thrown down. One of the other people at our table likewise picked at his mediocre incorrectly prepared steak, undercooked asparagus and room temperature mashed potatoes. I will not be returning. A completely dreary experience. read more

Well taught I try it again. This time sat at the bar! Entertainment was fabulous on Thursday night! Bartender attentive. Problem they shut the sound off at 9pm and closed the bar in the lounge, walked away from bar to say good night to some friends and they took my drink away!! How rude is that? Thankfully the bartender made me another drink. What a way to loose clientele....If it wasn't for the performers I would never come back, which means I'm total at least $100 tab!!! read more

First the skinny host at the door with the nastiest attitude . He needs to retire.we asked if there were any tables and he said they were booked so I understand that . He did say we could sit at a high top which I agreed . I simply asked if we could sit in the middle in instead of at the door and he got very annoyed and grabbed the silverware from the first table and threw it in the middle table then and walked away saying something nasty about us then I watched him go to the other host and start talking nasty about us . Service was awesome with Emma , but that's where it ended . Unfortunately the food was not just horrible but unhealthy and inedible. First the coconut shrimp I ordered came out in 3 minutes was completely raw . When they took it back and gave me it again it was microwaved.,Then my main course was definitely day old chicken microwaved with sauce slapped over it . Again the waitress was amazing but with food like this the health department should step in . Please please find a chef that can cook a proper meal . Half price Monday should not mean half cooked food and half ass attitude . read more

well I've given this place several chances and after going there numerous nights for dinner or just drinks I've Definitely noticed less and less folks are eating there. Tonight I had Chicken Picata and its was Dry only about 5 capers, no lemon flavor and chicken was like a tick Tough Steak. my friend's salad was whimy and not at all crisp he could not even eat it. Last week I did burger night the hamburger was NOT the size of their regular burgers on menu. tasted like it was pre-cooked and reheated and Super Dry. well as there's I chatted with tonight they Stopped eating here due to poor quality of food. when you mention anything negative bartenders and waiters say " Oh What " I think they are afraid to take food back to kitchen. I'm DONE WITN EATING HERE! I will just go there for drinks and see friends. prices are Outrageous for what you get my meal didn't even come with a salad. read more

My husband chose this restaurant to conduct a business meeting last week after purchasing a property across the street. We were greeted with open arms and sat in a quiet private dinning room. The staff was very friendly. The food was very good. I kept stealing bites from my husband's plate. The others in our party ordered salads and steaks. I had the greek salad and my husband chose the liver and onions which came with mashed potatoes and vegetables resembling pot roast. Everyone loved the food. We were not rushed and stayed nearly 3hrs. Our waiter continued to fill our drinks long after the check was paid. Lots of hugging and hand shaking took place. We are so happy to be a part of this wonderful community and can't wait to meet more people. read more

The old saying, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me" holds true here. After the last visit, see previous review, we decided to try it again. I made reservations and was curious to try one more time. We were met by the bartender, not the host. When he took us our table, there was no table with our name on it. He did find a table not reserved and sat us there. We had the same server as before but figured it would be okay as there were no other tables seated. We both ordered the mahi as our server told me that would be a safe gluten free choice. He left the table only to return a couple minutes later to tell us they were out of the mahi. Shouldn't he have been told this before approaching our table? We both a 2nd choice and found them not bad. I know that by never returning to this establishment will not bring it to its knees, but if friends, etc. ask about this, I will without hesitation suggest they find another place to spend their money and have a fine dining experience. This establishment is Antisemitic. I was there this evening, December 15th, 2025 and there is not one decoration celebrating the Jewish holiday of Chanukah. I approached the person who was at the reservation desk at the entrance and all he said, we brought these decorations from home. What a pathetic response. It was obvious he didn't know how to respond. They should be ashamed. They have no respect for the Jewish community, but they want our money. read more

Went on Sandwich & Burger Night. Wonderful burgers, service was great. Nice atmosphere with comfortable booths. And really good prices. I suppose the restroom might be a strange thing to talk about, but there's lounge chairs in there so, that's pleasantly weird. 2nd visit: same burgers, but we also shared a Hummus & Pita Points plate. Decided to try their Monday night special (1/2 off entrees). So a few friends got together and went. We had a 6pm reservation. We got seated promptly but in the Music room, next to the piano and singer...which came Live at 7pm. A bit loud for my taste, we could barely converse. Three of us decided on the Pork rib eye and one got the Spaghetti and Meatballs. We placed the order around 6:10......the food did not get to our table until 7:30pm !!!!!!!!! Almost 90 minutes later. Whomever is responsible for the kitchen management needs to get a better hold of it. The food was below average. The pork was bland, tough and dry..... The pasta dish was edible, nothing more to say about the food. The waitress was overwhelmed and very busy...not her fault the kitchen is such a mess... Not going back anytime soon. We went here for dinner and a few cocktails during on a week night outing. Sat at the bar and ordered drinks and the zucchini fries. I do not like zucchini, I hate them BUT these were so freaking AMAZING! Cocktails are on the smaller side but it is a restaurant not a gay bar on the strip LOL. For dinner we ordered the veggie burger and the New York strip with mashed potatoes and vegetable. The only negative I have is 15 minutes after we ordered were told they did not have any veggie burgers left. When I asked what else do they offer for a vegetarian the only suggestion they had was a salad. The greek salad is what I ordered and I am glad I did. This is a huge salad and so tasty. My friend that ordered the NY steak said this was one of the best steaks he has ever had. The mashed potatoes were like silk and buttery. The ambiance reminds me of those classy piano supper restaurants they had in the 80's. Service was prompt and attentive, we will definitely be going back. read more

We came in Saturday for a bite to eat and we're terribly dissatisfied! The host wouldn't even look at us when we walked in. Finally I asked for a table and he gave us a both by the bar area. The restaurant was empty, not sure why he gave us that table. The show was going on and that area was packed. Our waiter was just as bad. All the food came out cold and we waited 15 minutes for his to bring the. Heck back after we gave credit cards. Not once did anyone come to ask how everything was ! Had date night on Saturday we live the place the vibe is friendly food is great prices are reasonable and the entertainment is amazing! We had made reservations but was disappointed with the table as it was away from the piano and the entertainment. So we had asked to move can you believe they picked up the table and moved it to an open spot next to the piano. I was WOWED! OMG most impressive act of customer service I have ever experienced! After 2 hours of waiting for our food, being told once that certain food wasn't available then it was, then waiting over an hour for the food and it wasn't even fully cooked...? Nope. Rick (not sure if he is the manager or what?) covered the meal and drinks, but the damage has been done. This used to be a good place for a nice dinner, but something has happened and now it's no good. If our service is any indication of what a typical night is, even the old people who normally come here will stop... obviously, the one star is better than I wanted to give, and is somewhat the indication of how our night went! I can't quite get my brain around WHY this place...which really should be a jewel in the community, cannot get their act together and hire a decent cook/chef. For any restaurant, the food has to be GOOD...and it simply isn't. My hubby ordered the cajun ribeye, and it came out...MAYBE 3/4 of an inch thick. He ordered it medium...it was hammered. The poor sweet and wonderful server, Javier, felt bad, then came back with a lovely ribeye...about 1 1/4" thick and cooked to a perfect medium. THANK YOU Javier! But it begs the question...if they knew that is the way it should have been, why didn't it come out that way the first time? As for me? I got the tempura fried shrimp. It was a disaster. The batter was not light and crisp, as tempura should be. It was thick, dense, gross, and waaay too much of it. I am attaching a photo of just the batter I pulled off so I could eat the shrimp. Folks, I am NOT a picky eater. That is not what this is. It was just bad food. Sorry. Tropics, in the 9 years I have lived here, despite multiple owners, you cannot seem to get your food to a decent quality. I do not know why. But I really hope you can do what you need to do to shine and succeed. read more

Hooray and hallelujah!!! Tropics is back, reborn again in the new, better and revised form of Tropics Grille. What was for many, many years Tropics, then briefly The Grille on the Drive, is now back again and better than ever as Tropics Grille. Anybody who has been around the Island City for a while will remember Tropics as the long standing and stellar watering and dining place of the mature gay gentlemen of Wilton Manors. Its loss at the hands of a reckless incompetent was devastating to the social life and very fiber of the gay community. But fortunately it was revived, redecorated and spruced up with an eye appealing décor and much improved menu under the name of The Grille and now even better than ever as Tropics Grille. The "Grand Reopening" appropriately took place on World Pride Weekend and the 50th anniversary of Stonewall. Like could you get any time more meaningful for a reopening than that? No you can't and I was delighted to be one of the new Tropics Grill customers on June 30th. To me most meaningful it marks the day that fifty years ago that I stood shoulder to shoulder by Sherman Square next to Stonewall in a Rockette like kickline chanting, dancing and heckling the police, but in a most friendly totally nonviolent way, with "Hey, Hey! We are the Stonewall gurls, we wear our hair in curls." Now there are other factors coupled together that give me reason to go Five Yelp Stars for the reopened Tropics Grill. The first is the food. The food was greatly improved in quality, taste, flavor and consistency under its days as being The Grille. I've had about everything on their menu from the Bolognese to the duck and all were great and now fortunately carried over and served under the Tropics Grille name. For my meal I had one of my favorites being a filet mignon done rare, coated with a gorgonzola cheese and sided with potato and asparagus. The presentation when served couldn't have been better with the steak done perfectly as ordered, juicy, tender and flavorful. Another factor are the drinks. I've never had a bad, weak, floated or watered down drink at Tropics and that good drink tradition continues. Then there are the bartenders, friendly, knowledgeable efficient and polite. Plus we now have the return of such familiar bartender faces as Frankie who has been with the Tropics bars of this location since forever. If told he was born here, I wouldn't dispute it. For years I have not only enjoyed his drinks but the Halloween, Christmas and other decoration he brought to the place. Another good thing that the reborn Tropics Grill is doing is getting rid of the plastic. No more plastic bags or plastic straws. You may not think much of that, but if you were a boater and everyday had to witness all the plastic debris in our oceans, intracoastals and getting plastic bags wrapped up on your props, you'd understand. Then, and this is the real icing on the proverbial cake, is the entertainment. For dining entertainment I have no problem declaring it not only to be the best, not just for Lauderdale, but for all of Broward. Yes, it is that good. I might also add that, as the reborn Tropics is retaining The Grille staff and also bringing back some of the seasoned employees of the original Tropic days, there is no "soft opening" crap to put up with. They already know the act and they have it down perfectly. read more
