The brunch platter is delicious and gives you a very wide variety of stuff to try. The shakshuka is okay. The kebabs are delicious and would highly recommend getting any of them. The bread is good but it will be nice if they can bake their bread fresh in the restaurant. It feels like it's prepackaged and they warm it up. Troya was a great dinner spot! I came on a Wednesday evening and it wasn't particularly crowded, the ambiance was still warm and cozy. Get their roasted cauliflower and muhammara (red pepper and walnut paste). The yogurt sauce they serve with the cauliflower was so good, I kept dipping bites of other dishes into it! The lamb shoulder also had great flavor and feature the yogurt sauce and another house made brown sauce which paired well with it. They gave you a TON of meat, but it wasn't as juicy as it looked. I only took one star off because the pita they served the muhammara with was a little cold and stale-tasting. We went close to closing to this may be why--I'd definitely come back to try their other dishes. read more

Troya will not disappoint. Consistently excellent food and the service is top notch. We've had just about everything on their menu and I can't find a bad thing to say about any of the dishes. The lentil soup is warming and comforting, the salads are generously portioned and fresh, the salmon skewers are grilled just right every single time, the hummus and pita taste like they made them just before bringing to your table! Do not leave without a piece of baklava! You'll regret it if you do. Also, we sat next to two other guests and as they broke into their borek, we heard oohs and ahhs and a complete look of satisfaction after their first bite. After a bad, overpriced dinner at now-closed Troya on Clement, we won't be trying Troya on Fillmore. The beautiful Clement St. restaurant was spotless, but the prissy waiters were very unfriendly and the small portions of bland food were awful. The moussaka tasted like it was made with canned supermarket white sauce, not a scratch-made bechamel. The lamb kebabs were as tough as nails. Mine even had a large, nasty-looking white nerve running through it. Obviously not tender lamb loin as it should have been, this was a cheap shoulder cut. After struggling to find parking in the congested area, Troya was a disappointing ripoff that wasn't worth trying again. That pricey evening was embarrassing as well because our gourmet-dinner guest was a visitor from New York City. They also commented on the poor food quality. read more

Nice ambiance, sat right away, friendly service. Ordered the turkish breakfast, cuz that's why we were there. The selection was a little smaller than expected (like no jam, no turkish white cheese, etc...), but everything was excellent and high quality. My son said the eggs were his favorite, and we ate pretty much everything, including extra pita. The breakfast is a little pricey at 60 for two, and charging extra for tea with turkish breakfast is almost insulting. If it were just me, I would give them 1 star. Service was not great. My food was AWFUL. I got the Greek omelette which had to be made twice because they put harissa all over it ( not on the menu) and I don't do spicy. Then the items listed for the omelette.feta, avocado- were outside the omelette. My daughter got the shushuka. Tasted like poached eggs over Ragu. There were some good things. The hummus was good, but did not come with enough pita. They asked if we wanted more, but neglected to mention they charge for it. My husband had the falafel salad , adding a salmon kebab. I have been to Troya before for dinner and remembered that I enjoyed the meal with friends. So, last night due to the rain, I ordered delivery. We were all really disappointed in the meal. Everything seemed to be flavorless - the chicken, the rice, the humus, the sauces. It was really bizarre and not good. Thinking about the fact that we paid over $80 for the flavorless meal upsets me even more. I'm not sure if this was an off night or if delivery just didn't compare to the restaurant-- I don't know but I definitely know Troya is no longer viewed favorably in my book. We couldn't finish the food despite each ordering just one thing and have leftovers that we probably won't eat. Oh, in addition to being flavorless, they package salad with the hot food items in the same box. The salad that came with our meals were all hot and wilted. It was inedible. I had much higher hopes for this place because the pics look pretty amazing. But, for almost $20 a plate (lunch combos), there was not really enough food to be worth it. Four friends and I ordered five different things and there was absolutely nothing left on our plates. It was not that we were scarfing down food either... Service was perfectly OK, just nothing remarkable so I can't bump it up to 4*s. Food was also perfectly OK, but we just needed more of it. If you're in the mood for similar fare, check out Souvla. We had the outdoor dinning experience during COVID. The food here is amazing and the service is great! We did a reservation through Yelp only to find out that it wasn't necessary during this time. They were able to seat us in 5 mins wait time. We ordered a bottle of wine, a Greek Cabernet Sauvignon with the borak for an appetizer. It was amazing. The outside was flaky and buttery and the cheese was decadent. AMAZING! The olive topping and sprinkles of feta were just right with each bite. For an entree, I ordered the chicken kebab plate with rice and veggies and my husband ordered the baby lamb chops with hummus and potatoes. We shared each other's dishes and each bite of these dishes were so flavorful and authentically packed with Mediterranean flavor! For dessert, we ordered the cheese Kunefe. The sauce was sweet and the mozzarella cheese mix brought that savory mix. Exquisite! A welcoming clean-lined space - and once you're seated and have had a chance to examine the menu, you'll realize that this place is special. This is genuine Turkish food, and wonderful. The mezes are delicious, the wine list is very interesting and do ask Berk for suggestions. He wil be happy to guide you to something maybe new to you. And then there are amazing lamb dishes, and my favorite - manti, tiny meatballs in tissue thin pastry and a wonderful yogurt sauce. And the spiced grilled Brussels sprouts. And desserts which are sublime - they change, but they are heavenly. I am a serious fan of Troya; it's a very good restaurant run by extraordinarily nice people, and if you haven't tried it yet, do get with the program - it's well worth your time. read more

The food at Troya is rich with flavor, but light on the stomach. My favorite combination. I was extremely impressed with all of the dishes that I sampled at the Troya Fillmore location last week. I've always been a big fan of their Richmond restaurant and it's nice to see Troya expanding - especially since they put a large emphasis on making sure that many of their dishes are organic, sustainable, and locally farmed. The ambiance at this location is hip and chic. It's a remarkable addition to the Pacific Heights area and is perfect for catching up with friends and such. Though be sure to make a reservation at night - since Troya is definitely a happening spot. We shared the roasted cauliflower with spring onion and urfa, the watermelon and braised fennel salad, as well as the Mahi-Mahi skewers. Everything was perfectly cooked, and you could taste the freshness of each ingredient - from the crisp juicy watermelon, to the lightly roasted cauliflower. The Mahi-Mahi was superb and grilled with care. If you're trying to eat healthy and don't want to sacrifice taste - come here. Troya Fillmore fills the space left behind by Elizabeth Faulkner's Citizen Cake though thankfully not the stench of their horrible service and sad dinner food. It's nice to see the space filled with happy diners and a high level of excellent service. Not having a reservation on a Saturday evening, we were offered a seat at the bar where we led off with some fine New Zealand Pinot Noir by the glass ($9). We graduated onto mezes and shared an entree. Our waitress was right in saying this would be plenty of food. Of the mezes we ordered, my favorites were: * Feta cheese cigars with pistachio, honey, and cinnamon ($7) - With their oozy, melty, salty filling I could eat these all night long. I love these things. I wish I could order a platterful. * Zucchini fritters ($8) - These were hot and spicy, crunchy and well flavored. A perfect companion was the mint dipping sauce accompaniment. A platter of this would be desirable as well. * Roasted caluliflower with spring onion - I make roasted cauliflower all the time so it practically kills me to pay $9 for someone else to make it. This was good though (as is mine) and it was a nice balance to the other flavors we sampled. * Roast asparagus - This was on the specials menu. Again, roasting asparagus at home is a snap but they added some artichokes and tomatoes and the whole thing tasted good, not grand. I really didn't care much for the cracker-like flatbread that they serve in a cup nor the turkish bread that accompanied the trio of Babaganoush, Haydari, and Muhammara ($14). Both seemed more like supporting vehicles for delivering things that taste better. In this case, that would be only the Haydari, a white Turkish yogurt dip. The Babaganoush had an odd grey color and tasted burnt. The orangy-red Muhammara tasted oddly of nothing. In the future, I'd skip this meze altogether and substitute something else in its place. Fried calamari, perhaps? We shared the moussaka entree ($19) which proved a wise decision. Though not bad it was a large serving and its one-dimensional mouth-feel (cinnamony and rich) meant that I would've quickly tired of the taste. As it was, we brought 50% home for a future meal. I'd get this again, but only if I were sharing it amongst 3 - 4 people. Though Troya was full with people the restaurant had a quiet energy. It was easy to carry on a conversation, even at the bar. I think the place is solid, but it might take some careful menu sampling to come up with a meal where everything is universally delicious. I'd not be opposed to sampling more widely to really hone in on the things that taste great. read more

Instead of saving room for kebabs, we should have grazed through the top part of the menu because the small plates at Troya really shine. If I could rewind dinner, I'd order a smorgasbord of roasted brussel sprouts & cauliflower in addition to the seared scallops & trio of dips we picked (with the best undoubtedly being the walnut, which we killed.) We abandoned the Turkish bread, which was too doughy & not fresh tasting, in favor of the complimentary spiced crackers. The roasted sauces that accompanied our chicken & lamb kebabs were spectacular (red pepper & eggplant, respectively), but I thought the chicken was tough & not properly seasoned. Really enjoyed the fresh flavors in the arugula salad & in the chickpea salad, but the protein was a bust. What I would order in its place next time -- a flatbread (pear, lemon, goat cheese one sounded amazing.) Lastly, side of basmati rice with slivered almonds was fluffy & nicely flavored. We've been going to Troya for awhile but we had a great experience today that I wanted to share. We ordered for pick-up and there was a little snafu with one of our dishes. They told us to keep the extra dish and within a few minutes, brought out the correct dish. The server also noted the extra dish has tzatziki in case we had any issues with dairy. We were so impressed that he noticed our other items were dairy-free and pointed it out. Overall, service was fantastic and the food is delicious! read more

We were just looking for a warm place to hide from a typical overcast Sunday in the city and Troya was open in the odd hours between 3 and 5 pm. Everything we ordered was delicious--I had soup with cheese pastries called borek, Mr. had manti-the spicy beef dumplings. Too spicy for my taste, but he LOVED it, even though not typically a lover of spicy things. Everything was very tasty, the service prompt and friendly. Our mimosa weren't terribly original--I had a pomegranate and a peach one, and Mr. had rose lemonade that he did not like. But all and all, we had a lovely time--the space is really beautiful and welcoming. read more

Very cute small place in a great neighborhood and street. Very good vegetarian options available! The staff was extremely nice and very attentive. We have the Turkish fires, Falafel salad and vegetable Moussaka. The falafel was crispy, light and soft inside. With the tomato sauce, hummus, avocado and pita bread this salad was a treat to the pallet. The flavored rice, beans with cheese and yogurt sauce was yummy. I'm salivating just thinking of it now, three days later. Every bite was amazingly flavorful and delicious and unique. We will definitely be going back. Interestingly enough, the dish I was looking forward to the least was my favorite--definitely get the Roasted Cauliflower. I can also recommend the Lahmajun Flatbread, the House Made Manti, and the salmon (which doesn't appear to be on the Yelp menu at the moment). Just be aware that you're going to spend quite a bit (I think that Troya should be listed as $$$ instead of $$) and you probably won't have leftovers. read more

TL;DR: Had a good dinner but the food wasn't mind-blowing. Service was great. Tagine was flavorful and interesting; beef dumplings were just ok. Maybe try multiple small plates. AT and I came here with a LivingSocial voucher (which I sometimes purchase to force ourselves to try a different restaurant in town). Getting a reservation was no problem, and when we arrived there were plenty of open tables. The service was great, and the food came out quickly. AT and I got two main dishes (tagine and beef dumplings), but the table next to us opted to get several small plates to share. AT's tagine was good--it's a vegetarian dish with plenty of flavor. My dumplings were good but got boring halfway through. It's basically mini beef dumplings covered in a yogurt sauce. I think it would have been better with a smaller serving and maybe something on the side. The baklava threw us for a loop: it looked like a cinnamon roll but tasted like baklava. Don't get me wrong--it was still good, but just strange. Overall, things were good, and I want to try getting multiple small plates next time. But for the price point, I think I want to try a few other places first before coming back immediately. read more

If you're familiar with Troya on Clement street, the new Troya is slightly upscale of that. Plates are smaller, service is posh (they have a Cultery Boy), and it'll cost you $45 a person before you're done. The food, however, will be worth it. Highlights from dinner: Turkish bread, spinach boreks, manti ("Turkish beef dumplings"), "flatbread", and the baklava. I think this may be the only restaurant in San Francisco where you can get authentic, hand-made manti. And I generally don't like baklava and don't eat it anywhere but Troya. It's that good. Note that the meze plates are small. If you choose to make a meal entirely from meze, you'll need 2-3 plates per person. This is a good thing, it keeps you from option paralysis on the menu. Just order one of everything! Everything is made in-house from scratch. While waiting for the bathroom, I watched one of the Turkish owner's female relatives supervising the kitchen staff. They've kept the decor and furnishings from the former Citizen Cake, so it's all hard surfaces; Troya will be very noisy once it's full. Wine selection is modest but affordable, and includes some Greek and Turkish wines. Should definitely be on your list of options for dining on the Fillmore next time you go. read more

Things I love: dining solo and getting the chance to sit at the bar. Things I love more: the fig, hummus and lamb bacon dish I ate while at Troya. There's something incredibly satisfying in this dish's simplicity and paired with the brussel sprouts, and olive oil poached salmon my little ginger soul was content. Weeks later I am still contemplating the fig, lamb bacon and hummus dish and have even gone so far as to try and recreate it at home. Alas, the joy of it will be something I hold dear until I can wander up Fillmore to Troya once again. Cliffnotes you'll want to know: - This is just as easily a venue for you to dine with a few friends. Solo dining isn't all Troya is good for. - They do offer take-away (or at least did while I was in town in July) - 3 dishes were more than ample for one. I ordered the eggplant toast (which was decent) and kaymak with honey but what came out/was served was yogurt with honey instead. I notified the server and they said they ran out of kaymak so substituted with yogurt and that the server didn't know and was apologetic. I'm just shocked at how can a restaurant do that?! Charge me for kaymak and give me yogurt thinking I will not realize if I'm new to the cusine??! They didn't even offer to compensate in any way so overall very poor experience. Not returning. Not sure if that was the intention but came across as poor ethics if you're trying to fool customers like this and don't even care to make up for it. Feta on lahmajun, really?! Never seen that in any Turkish restaurant ever, and my personal opinion, as a Turk, is those two things don't go together. Also waiters were very helpful and polite, and I really appreciated the "Tesekkurler" ("thank you" in Turkish) in excellent accent after dinner. Had dinner here this past week with some coworkers who had never been to Troya before and were excited to eat Turkish/Mediterranean food. I was surprised to see the place so packed on a Tuesday night, which means they must be doing just fine...props to them! I'm sure it was because they were slammed but, the service was exceptionally slow and we had to get menus for ourselves and flag down the server to get attention. No matter because the kabobs were all delicious and the trio of apps were also a nice touch. I wasn't a huge fan of the brussel sprouts but, everything else was yummy. I think they realized how slow things were going because they brought out a complimentary dessert at the end of the meal which is always a classy move. Between two, we split 4 small plates: calamari, cauliflower, scallops, and halloumi cheese. And the lahmajun flatbread. The amount was perfect for us, taking home a few slices of the flatbread to-go. We weren't really impressed by any of it though. The calamari came out smelling amazing, and the seafood was all fresh, but they were also very small portions for the price. Same with the halloumi cheese, which tasted great, but only had like 3 tiny slices of fruit and a tiny slab of the cheese. On the other hand, the cauliflower plate was huge. I think you're supposed to get complimentary chips, which we didn't get, but received after asking. We agreed that we may have just ordered the wrong things, considering that I usually come into a Mediterranean restaurant craving lamb and hummus. This time was a bit more adventurous. read more
