Renee's was the first Pizza place we ordered delivery from here in Troy as we just moved from New York. We ordered online which was nice and our food arrived promptly. We ordered an easy 'just get your feet wet' pepperoni pizza, hot wings, and flatbread. I dont' wan't to sound like a New York snob but this was no where near New York style pizza. It didn't taste bad but shouldn't be advertised as NY Style Pizza. The large was much smaller than what we're used to in NY and was glad we had the other items to fill us up. The pizza was ok but I felt like I was eating pizza hut... it didn't have that hand-tossed taste. The wings were not tossed in the hot sauce and what was provided was a measly amount that barley covered the amount of wings ordered. NOTE: Order extra sauce! These wings were crispy which was nice but had an out-of-the-bag store-bought taste to them. I've ordered from a couple different places since my initial order from Renee's and - what I first thought was a phenomenon - the wings not tossed in the sauce seems to be a Michigan thing. Overall, not a big deal as I'm capable of tossing them myself. The flatbread, was good! Ha ha, I had you there for a second. It had a great taste and reheated well the next day. We were looking for Mozzarella sticks but in all the places we've ordered from no one has them! This disappointed my wife as Mozza sticks were a staple to our pizza orders. Overall Renee's is an OK place in a pinch but Perry's Pizza in Clawson is a better bet; though, still not my go-to pizza place. I hope my review helps someone, don't completely write off Renee's on my account as there seems to be a lot of people who love this place. It is so nice to go to a location and know you can eat everything there. I have had almost every flavor of pizza. They have deep dish and thin crust pizza, calzones, salads and. Ire. You can either have one of their planned or make you own creation. I've only had the cinnamon sticks for dessert. Make sure you leave room for them. They won't disappoint. If you leave within their radius, they will even deliver to you. It is a good thing that I don't work nearby because I would be so tempted to only go to Renee's and never bring my lunch. read more

Oh yeah! I was teaching a class in Troy and the office manager gave their menu to me. I ordered their meat lovers calzone for delivery and it was totally amazing. Not only was the filling delicious, but the crust was really tasty too. Delivery was pretty quick even during lunch hour. No idea how this gets such good reviews. I have dairy allergies and am sensitive to gluten. My family is awesome and eats like this with me to make it not so bad. Went here with high hopes. With the service being a little lacking (not bad or good) food can always make up for it. The food tasted pretty good overall and would have rated higher BUT the after effect was aweful. My wife and I both had stomach aches and were nauseated within an hour after eating. No idea what it was but BOTH of us got sick from it. Our kids even had stomach aches. What an experience! I placed a lunch order today online for my Celiac husband. When the order was delivered, the delivery guy informed him that "there's a little note on your order I should be 'mindful of' in the future." Uhhh ok... So he takes the pizza from him to look at the note. He closes the door and the guy comes back to inform him it was a cash order. He didn't know this because I placed the order and the guy never asked, so my husband apologizes and grabs some cash to pay. He tries to give him a $5 tip on a $15.xx order and the delivery guy says, "don't insult me" and hands the change back. uh ok... So the note.... Apparently the order came to $13ish, but it was over 16 with taxes and the additional $4 delivery fee. The passive aggressive note that came was to remind us that orders have to be over $15 for delivery. GET OUT OF TOWN, RENEES. WE ARE WEEKLY REPEAT CUSTOMERS FFS! Renee's definitely exceeded my expectations. I am from buffalo NY and there aren't as many gluten free options. At least not ones that taste as good as this did. I ordered a build your own calzone: prosciutto, spinach, kalamata olives, feta cheese and portobello mushrooms. I went there for the first time today and the kid (I say kid because he was probably about 13 and working during his spring break) that took my order was very friendly and nice. Now for the rest of my visit... Imagine being Catholic on Good Friday (for those of you who don't know, Catholics do not eat meat on Friday's during lent) or Vegetarian and walking into a pizza place for lunch and having no real options... I wanted to order the special which was 2 slices and a drink. I was lucky to order cheese they only had one slice left because just after I ordered the pizza chef took away the other 3 slices that were sitting there. Then I told them well I don't know what to do because I cannot eat meat, then after a minute or so he reluctantly, and kinda rudely, said I could have one of the other cheese slices. Why on earth, on Good Friday or any other Friday during lent wouldn't you have more of a non-meat selection like a veggie option or a Margherita pizza... ? Already this place had left a bad taste in my mouth and I had not even tried the pizza yet. I picked a window seat while I waited for my lunch, which only took about 5 minutes to get to me. Sadly the pizza was flavorless, it's definitely missing something, and no it wasn't the gluten...I've had gluten free pizza with flavor. We've eaten at Renee's several times over the last few years. They have excellent pizza and wraps--and the best fries I've had anywhere! The wraps are huge, but slightly dry unless you get them with some sauce to dip. BBQ sauce goes very well with the chicken bacon ranch wrap. The BLT pizza provides something a little different. The dough was under proofed, had NO rise whatsoever. Thin crust pizza is supposed to be thin but still have some rise and structure to the crust. This was equivalent to a wet napkin with toppings. They don't appreciate their loyal customers, and this one will not be back! There are few gluten free pizza's that I and my family will eat. The pizza here is amazing. Before COVID, we'd visit twice a month. Now, with our pay cut due to COVID, we still try to support this pizzia. We may not come as often, but we care about our local businesses. Today, I had earned a free pizza, but I was told I needed to visit in order to redeem it. My sister placed our order in person for the free pizza which allowed us to buy a 2nd pizza. One normally comes with green peppers. We hate green peppers on pizza. She asked them to omit the green peppers. She paid for the pizza and the computer offered specific tip amounts. My sister left 18% tip. We were happy to do it. When she got home, we found they had omitted green peppers on the pizza that normally comes with them, but they had added and charged us for green peppers to the 2nd pizza. We weren't thrilled to be charged for something we didn't want and had to remove from our pizza. However, we also found the 18% tip was really a 32% tip, because the tip applied to the total of both pizza's at full price! THEY DO NOT ALL WEAR MASKS. I have been a Renee's patron for several years, as someone who cannot eat gluten it has been a safe haven. Although it is pricey, it has always felt worth it. I have recommended it to countless family and friends who also cannot eat gluten. Today I picked up an order for my mother and to my dismay I saw that one of the workers was walking around aimlessly without a mask. When I asked why he wasn't wearing one as it is currently a STATE MANDATE, the cashier told me it was because he wasn't handling food. This was absurd as I could literally see him handling dough and putting food away to be stored. This was a disgusting interaction where this establishment showed no care or empathy to the situation at hand. In no world should an employee of a RESTAURANT be ever not wearing a mask during a PANDEMIC whether or not they are handling food WHICH HE WAS. This was one of this most disheartening and unprofessional things I have experience in this pandemic. I will never be returning to Renee's and I will be actively telling others not to as well as they clearly do not care about the health of their customers or their employees for that matter. I am utterly disgusted. There's literally no excuse to put your own preference over the health and well being of others, this was negligent, and unkind, and selfish. Firstly, if you are reading OR WRITING the negative reviews, you have to understand that this facility was built to serve people who have specific food disease or allergies. If you don't know what it's like to have a food disease or allergy, you can't possibly give a fair and balanced review since you don't know what it's like to fear that every bite you take could kill or hurt you or be forced to eat the crap most people make for those with food issues. There is a good reason why you can't bring outside food into their facility. Because your outside food could kill or severely hurt one of their many customers who rely on them to stick to their guns and provide a safe place to eat for those with food issues. It states, quite clearly on the door and front window that it is a gluten and nut free facility and that no outside food or beverages are allowed. Few people will ever understand how emotional it can be to know that you are eating at a restaurant without fear. That's what Renee's Gourmet Pizza does for Celiac's and those with food allergies. Now, on to the food. To date I have tried several pizza's, cinnamon sticks, fries, chicken wings, elephant ear, and a calzone. All of which were excellent. The best GF pizza I've ever had! Pizza tastes like the pizza you ate before you found out you were sick- only without the pain! My fiancée who does not have any food issues says he can't tell the difference (and he can always tell the difference). The staff is excellent and makes you feel like you don't have to apologize for having food issues. Given the cost of gluten free ingredients, the prices are fair and definitely worth it since they seemed to have discovered the perfect recipe for gluten free pizza dough. So, if you require this type of food- or even if you don't, give Renee's a try. We need to support people who are willing to provide a good product at a fair price who keep the customer's needs in mind. All I have left to say is THANK YOU for giving me a place to eat without fear. UPDATE: Had to try the new Chicago style deep dish they rolled out this week. OMG!!! Super Yum!!! Unbelievably Yummy!!! Good for the non-gluten free folks too! I am lucky enough not to have food allergies, but some friends have celiac disease; it's nice to be able to go out to eat with them without worrying (or ordering salad only). I am going to start with my favorite part, the cinnamon sticks. Yes, it's dessert. The cinnamon sticks are awesome. We ordered a basket after smelling them at the next table. I was honestly surprised by how good they were. For the pizza, at the edges, I can tell it's a different dough. For the cinnamon sticks, it's just crusty, gooey deliciousness with a side of vanilla icing. Be warned; you need to share this or you will embarrass yourself and eat the whole thing. Onto the actual meal.... The pizzas have a thin crust, which I prefer, and they bake up surprisingly fast. The dough is a rice flour so it's white. In texture, it's like a flat bread; it's thin and a bit dry, but I like that the pizza wasn't soggy. They are generous with the toppings, so when your pizza is loaded up, I don't think you can tell the difference between this and a thin crust "regular" pizza. At the very edges of the pizza, if I eat the dough plain then I can tell it's a different dough. We shared a veggie pizza, and it was really good - lots of cheese and tons of veggies. The Greek salad was sized like at other pizza places, so a "small" is enough for 2-4 people to share if part of a meal; for the price, it's a steal. The wait staff is very nice; they kept our drinks full and came back a few times to check on us. Bottom line: even without a gluten-free friend in tow, I'll go back. read more

Gluten free crust will never be as good as regular crust, but some places just do gluten free better than others. Renee's is one of those places mostly because everything they do is gluten free. But gluten free or not, their pizzas are legit. Like, this pizza is better than most in the area and that's overall, not even comparing with other gluten free pizzas. They don't do fake thin crust or fake Chicago style, they do it right. I'd suggest the Albanian, but you can't go wrong with any of the specialties. If you're gluten free and want pizza, this is where you go. If you're not gluten free and want a good pizza, this is still worth checking out. read more

I wish Troy wasn't 3+ hours away from where I live! I made a special trip up here after a day at Comerica park this weekend. I always feel better going to 100% gluten-free restaurants when traveling if possible, and Renee's was wonderful! The other 4 people in my party did not miss the gluten or other allergens one bit. The salads are huge and full of good stuff, wings and chicken tenders have a flavorful crunchy breading. I am lactose-free and our server took the time to find a dip I could have (the honey mustard) with my wings. And the pizza - wow. If they had told me the vegan cheese on mine was real mozzarella bits, I would've believed it. Crust was solid, too. I have Celiac disease. This place is my favorite in the world. I have never once in my life been able to go somewhere and eat without having to worry even a tiny bit! Renee's does not allow people to bring in food - even baby food! So there is ZERO risk of cross contamination!! How cool is that?! I have tried the calzones, the pizza, the chicken fingers and the fries and let me tell you that it is all to die for. It's so amazing. OH. Renee's also has elephant ears! My boyfriend comes with me to eat and he does not have to be gluten free. He's just as in love with the food as I am, though - it is that good! I do not know what I would do without Renee's. I go here probably twice a month even though Renee's is a good half hour drive from my house. I find the time well worth it. I hope Renee's will make another location in Sterling Heights, Clinton Township, Shelby, or Macomb. I think it would do amazingly well. TLDR; Renee's is amazing even if you don't have Celiac disease! Yes it is a bit pricy, but my whole family has celiac disease so paying a little bit more for food is something that I've grown accustomed to. That being said, the pizza here is excellent. Sometimes gluten free baked goods can be a little iffy and have a strong "off" flavor to them (I think it's from the chickpea flour). I don't get any of that here though. The pizzas are way better than the gluten free offerings you get at places at Cottage Inn, while the addition of dishes like calzones made my wife's eyes light up; we've never seen them as an option anywhere, and they're as good as gluten-full ones. Finishing the meal off with an order of the cinnamon sticks rounded off a great meal. If you have a gluten allergy, you have to check this place out. It's expensive, but think about it: places like Dan Good Pizza and Pizzeria Uno have similar pricing. Premium pizza places charge premium prices for premium products. read more

I'm not gluten free but I have several friends who are so we decided to order from Renee's during a girls' night in. It was fantastic! The menu is completely nut and gluten free so they could choose anything they wanted. A lot of gluten free pizza has kind of a gummy consistency but Renee's isn't like that! The pizza is fantastic but I also highly recommend the calzones. They are gigantic (definitely enough for 2 people) and delicious.
