Locals often refer to Truck as one of the best restaurants in the area, but frankly I was not impressed. The only positive is that they serve decent drinks, and make a good spicy margarita. The food, on the other hand is simply average at best. As far as I can tell they have 2 types of tacos - mushy or stale. The menu looked great, but everyone at our table agreed that there was a major lack of seasoning. The meat is almost tasteless with few exceptions. The food was certainly fresh, and cooked well, but unfortunately almost everything we tried seemed bland, and lacked that punch of flavor you get from really great Mexican cuisine. We did enjoy the fried oyster and roasted chicken tacos, but when we complained that our other tacos were served in shells that were either stale, or a mushy mess, the server brought us new shells.?? Were we supposed to use them to build new tacos?? I ended up dousing my food in hot sauce to add a little zing. Managements attitude was also somewhat condescending in my opinion. Wonderful restaurant! We eat here on a regular basis. We generally book a week in advance (as it does book up, especially on weekends) and we often have to wait between 10-20 minutes to be seated even with a reservation (which we use to get a margarita rolling!) The decor is charming, the staff is friendly, the food is super fresh and amazing and the drinks are also great. Its a very festive atmosphere in a country setting with lots of locals and the odd celebrity here an there (often just picking up their take out). We do wish they still had their outdoor seating (now barred by the town), but I bet they wish they had it too. It is completely worth a visit (and the wait for a table!) read more

Interesting shabby-chic inspired Mexican Restaurant nestled in the land of Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Martha Stewart and Richard Gere. The restaurant is a stand alone building (at one point it was apparently a truck stop). The place has a beachy and rustic vibe; an all-white exterior, wide-slatted wooden floorboards and natural light pouring through many large windows. Drinks are served in Mason Jars (I know most consider it an overdone novelty but I think it's cute.) Lots of adorably attractive wealthy families; the place is definitely kid-friendly. The menu also features homemade desserts like Twinkies, Oreo's and coconut cake. Portions are smallish. I ordered a salad with grilled chicken. The dressing was bland and unmemorable. They make a big deal about their house-made Habanero sauce which comes in a nondescript plastic squeezy bottle. It had hardly any taste and it was certainly not spicy. Even though I wasn't crazy about the food, I love that they source their food from local farms; they even have a list on the menu. I love supporting businesses that are locally and ethically minded. I also like to know that the poultry or meat that I'm eating isn't tainted by antibiotics and hormones. I gave it an extra star for the effort to provide customers with healthy and sustainable food. I would definitely give this place another shot and order something other than a boring salad. read more

Nothing really wrong but nothing really stands out. We had a reservation at 7pm and didn't sit until 7:20pm. Food was good but expensive for what it is mostly because of where it is I imagine. Parking is limited but they have valet who gave us our key and pointed out where our car was. Not sure why I gave him a tip since I had to get my car...haha? I would certainly try it so you can form your own opinion but I'd probably go elsewhere if I were eating in he area. read more

Pros: farm fresh food. Generally well made and flavorful. Funky atmosphere. Hence the 2 rating (and not a 1). Cons: loud, spotty service (sometimes slow and sometimes fast), spotty waitstaff (some great, some barely breathing and inattentive) , not always welcoming, not forthcoming with warning of spice when taking orders from children, uncaring- I've been a vegetarian for 6 years, when I got to the bottom of my "vegetarian beans" and accidentally almost swallowed a huge chunk of pork I got an excuse "oops it must have accidentally fell in, the pork is next to the beans in the kitchen" from the manager and only a deletion of the cost of the beans. No free drink/deserts or some other goodwill gesture. Not my first choice. read more

There aren't many options in the area that seem to get the modern food movement. Luckily, Truck has come to town. The chefs are clearly reverent of the locally sourced ingredients. The food and atmosphere spoke to our young family looking for a nice place to grab a quick and delicious meal. The design is stylish, with bold branding and lots of wood. Comfy farm feel and yet modern at the same time. The staff was friendly and attentive. We brought our 2 year old with us, and got there at 5:40 pm - the place was about half full (and nearly all full when we left). I ordered a house margarita (Power Wagon) which was strong and tasty, and the chips and salsa. The salsa was pretty standard, but fresh and good. The chips were homemade and flakey - and a bit on the greasy side, but that didn't stop us from eating the whole basket. My husband ordered the farm salad and ate every bite of it. For dinner, we each ordered three tacos - the chicken tinga, the beef and the pork. You can get all 3 of them for $13.50 from the a la carte menu, or you can order them in a combo and get rice and beans as well for $19.50. If you ordered the rice and beans from the side dish menu, it'd be about $7, so you are only saving $1 by going combo. We didn't think it was worth it - so we just ordered individually. All of the tacos are hard shelled and they were all very good. The pork was a bit saucy, and I found myself moving the other tacos around the plate so they wouldn't soak up the juices and muddle the flavors. The chicken tinga taco was my favorite of the three due to the fresh corn, with the pork a close second. They didn't really have anything appropriate for children - which I thought was interesting since when we left the place was filled 80% with families. They adapted the cheese enchilada to not have any chilis and that substituted for a quesadilla. Our daughter was fine with that, and I was okay with her not getting any vegetables (or real nutrition) for one meal - but it would be nice if they could offer at least one thing that is kid-friendly. Dessert - showcased in glass when you first walked in - looked like a total rip-off for the price, so we skipped it. We'll definitely be back. Probably with a snack pack for our daughter of additional food, but we'll be there to enjoy it for us. read more

I had a really good dining experience at Truck the other Friday night. The food and experience was 5 star worthy, except the high prices keep me from going the full 5. The place is very loud when full, I grabbed a spot in a small alcove area with a wall creating a little barrier from the main dining area and it really helped with the noise. The decor is very cute. The bar is great. Maybe the best 4 beer taps- Negro Modelo, Ommegang, Lagunitas, and Capt Lawrence- top notch!! Despite the great beers I actually had a tasty and strong margarita. My waitress was sweet and attentive, even though it was very busy. The food was very good and I support the local farm to table movement. Started with a green salad with beets and a knockout dressing- olive oil with fresh squeezed lime- it was so good on the salad- a little siracha in that and now we're talking. Speaking of hot sauce, they have a very delicious homemade yellow hot sauce, which they warn is very hot, but I thought it was a great mix of heat and flavor. My main was a pork burrito- lots of flavor. The portion was on the small side, but it satisfied. For the price if you are used to the much larger burritos that are often served at most mexcian joints then you might be taken aback, and if you have a teenager, they will be underwhelmed with the portion size. I ended with a splurge- coconut cake. Ok, I am not a huge dessert fan. An extra slice of pizza will satisfy me more than a sweet ending, but this coconut cake might be one of the best cakes I have ever had. It was a simple looking, homemade cake, but the balance of taste, moistness (weird word), and coconut cream frosting was amazing!! We went there with friends last night for the first time. The atmosphere was more casual than expected and definitely 'family friendly' - meaning lots of kids. They charge $4 for a small serving of chips and salsa, something that is gratis and most, if not all Mexican restaurants. It definitely wasn't enough for four people so we ordered guacamole ($10!). It was a small blob the size of an ice cream scoop. The chips were great but the salsa and guacamole were bland. We often frequent the two Mexican restaurants in Brewster, maybe that set our expectations too high. I had a beef enchilada and it was excellent. I don't recall what everyone else had but we were all very pleased with the entrees and they were reasonably priced. The $10 Margaritas were a disappointment and a little overpriced for a very casual family restaurant. The waiter was pleasant and efficient. He pushed a 'red' margarita which one in our group had. It had a slight grapefruit taste. Of course we had a few rounds. When the bill came we saw that they charge $14 for red margaritas and $7 for draft beers. What are they thinking? We ordered two deserts, a "twinkie" and a "snowball". They were quite good but small. Our bill came to $200, somewhat high for what you get. There were lots of people waiting for tables so we felt a bit rushed - not by the staff, just our own consideration for other diners. read more

OK, I must bump my review back up! I am crazy about a couple of things here...vegetarian options are always flavorful and the cocktails are 95% of the time - outstanding. I love the Angry Rooster. Desserts can vary. I'm not always ordering dessert there, but the bits I've tried, it makes it easy to say, "I'll pass on dessert." Service improved last couple of times we were in there. I saw a rather negative post about Chris. I have to say, I was very surprised. I've found him to be one of the best servers and he's got an awesome personality, is attentive and we never once felt rushed. In fact, after giving him a generous tip one evening via our card, we then gave him some additional cash on the way out because he was so fantastic. Also, he's really a hit with the kids! Simple decor, loud, small and limited parking. I have dined here on 3 separate occasions and enjoy the food. The big issue I have found is carrying a conversation is a challenge with the acoustics. Service has been okay for the most part ( 2 out of 3 visits were good, the other was not so great). The chips and salsa while tasty are overpriced and should be offered up rather than marked up. Considering how much you will spend on a given meal, I can't see why Truck wouldn't offer up the chips as a welcome treat. I don't know why this one issue irks me so much, but it really does. The guacamole was good, but pricey for the amount. I am not against paying for a good meal and many of the dishes are worth it. The upside is local, organic offerings and tasty arrangements. read more

I LOVED this place! It's not Tex-Mex, not on any even liberal definition. And it's very loud. By loud, I mean shout across the table at your dining companion loud. It's not the the clientele is ill-behaved. I think the vaulted ceilings are to blame. But if you can get past the noise (which is loud by Manhattan standards), the food is spectacular. I had the grass fed beef taco in corn tortilla (they are happy to sub soft for crisp) and the meet was spicy and well-flavored. The menu lists the "farms that feed us," so this is really eclectic farm-to-table Mexican which flirts with Indian spices (chicken tingha). You can also choose a "farm" option (lettuce in lieu of tortilla). The veggie taco is excellent, unusual and fresh veggies with a little goat cheese. The service is terrific, local kids mostly from Bedford and Pound Ridge too, I imagine. The cocktails are a bit pricey given the reasonably priced food. Tacos range from 4 to 7 each and the entrees, including enchiladas, about 14. Cilantro and scallion rice and sides were in the 3-5 range. Guacamole is excellent though the chips are pretty greasy. They should offer a carrot and celery stick option and given the ubiquity of local farms/veggies, it would not be a big deal to offer this option to health-conscious eaters. My friend had the special margarita, a combo berry deal. Usually I hate this kind of drink but it was tart enough to feel like a real drink, not a stupid girl drink for girls who don't like the taste of alcohol. My Cab at 9/glass was quite good. For two it was only 66 pre-tip, with 4 tacos, a guacamole and chips side, and one margarita plus one glass of wine. Oh! And the desserts! All 4 bucks. The coconut cake I saw on my way in was impossible to resist. I brought home a small slice to have for breakfast with tea. read more

Here are some recommendations - Port Chester, Mamaroneck, Rye, Harrison, White Plains, Larchmont, New Rochelle, ANYWHERE is better than this place. The carrot cake was edible, but after the terrible tasteless meal, I still feel like I need to get more dessert to fill the overpriced void. Also, who serves carrot cake at a Mexican restaurant? I guess this is a testament to how far from Mexican food this restaurant really is. and to top it all off, we "valet" the car, yet have to walk out and get our own car. I'm still trying to figure out what all the rave is about with this place. Food is absurdly priced ($6 for a teeny tiny bowl of salsa and chips where other Mexican restaurants provide this for free and $13 for a short glass regular margarita). It is manhattan prices for subpar food with small portions. We ordered a quesadilla and asked for sour cream and was brought over a small tasting cup the size of my fingernail that was barely enough for one bite. The ambience is also just one small room with crammed tables some directly next to the swinging kitchens door. The bar only has five seats so on busy nights there are 50 people just crammed into the entryway directly watching you eat while waiting anxiously for a table which takes away from the ambience in my opinion and makes you feel rushed to finish. Servers aren't very friendly (ours never even introduced his name rather just started off with "what do you want to drink"). Valet parking only which I know they say the town makes them do but doesn't make it any less annoying. I won't be back and wouldn't recommend. read more

Expensive, Loud and Bad Service! Been here a few times recently. Every time the service was TERRIBLE. Didn't write a review after the 1st time because I thought they were just having a bad night. But it bad service seems to be the norm. Took forever to just take our order one time. Food takes forever to come, Last night our food took 45 minutes to come out, meanwhile tables seated after us got their food AND dessert while we were waiting. When we got our tacos the bottoms were so soggy they fell apart. Also the noise is deafening. Never going back. There are way better mexican restaurants in the area. read more
