Came here in last December and got their Campfire Marshmallow Hot Chocolate. While the drink was absolutely delicious (and pretty big!), the service was absolutely HORRIBLE. From being completely ignored when I came in to sit with my group, to being completely ignored when I tried to wave anyone down for some water, being completely rude when I finally did get their attention... basically the whole experience was ruined by the lack of service and how terrible it was when I did get any. I would like to try more of their food and drink, but if I were to do that I would want to just get it to go instead of having to deal with their staff any more than necessary. read more

it was my second time in a very long time that i have been to true confections, it is a really great place to go if you are wanting something sweet, they have pies and cakes there. I had their chocolate cherry log cake w/cherry sauce and whip cream on it. it was really good. I went there with a couple of my friends. I have never experienced such terrible customer service in my life. I ordered a birthday cake over a week ago to be delivered today, I even called in the morning to confirm the delivery of the cake. The cake was supposed to be delivered between 12:00pm to 2:00pm. At 1:45pm I call asking the status and the guy said they just left. 2:45pm hits... still no cake. Our office is a 9 minute drive (20 minute walk) from their location, there is absolutely no reason for this to happen. The glass rack looked inviting with the huge cakes. My friend said everything was good here so I chose based on my craving for strawberry shortcake. Biggest slice of cake that I was ever served. The sauce looked quite gooey but went well with the cake. Overall value for money since eating half would be more than satisfactory and the other half can let you savour the cake again at home. Mentioned it was pretty special, and we had hit or miss with cake pieces in the past - broken, not fresh, etc and was assured all great. My plan was to align them all on a platter, this was THE cake. Cream pie was so dry the cream was cracked, the diplomat was so dry the layers wouldn't keep together at all, and the birthday part of the birthday writing was illegible because they ran out of space. Went and picked up a small white Savannah cake the other day for dessert the other day from the display case. Was with a friend for coffee and dessert. I've had the cake before as takeout given to me as a thankyou gift for helping a friend move and it was delicious. Don't really know what happened this time but I will never order it from the display case again and it has me really leary about paying that expense again on the regular size cake. This cake was held together with very little cake was mostly whip cream. If I wanted that much whip cream I would've bought a container of Cool Whip from store and just ate that it would've taken better. After a long drive around town looking for a bowling place, we were 3 strikes out of luck. From a 45 minute wait to being reserved and finally the whole place taken by a bowling league... Who knew bowling was so popular nowadays? Anyway after burning so much gas, we decided to go for dessert. We decided to head here. The atmosphere was similar to a place in Toronto called "Just Desserts". Supplying mostly cakes, I was a bit worried. Somehow anything that is located in the core of downtown with a bunch of university students hanging around.... Well let's just say I think it's more of a socializing place and I was right. There was an impressive amount of cakes to offer. I didn't order anything except for a milkshake but I did sample 3 different cakes. First up was the toasted almond and it was a huge disappointment. It consisted of sponge cake layered with cream. I could barely taste the almond except in the cream which was also slightly stale. Second cake was called "The Diplomat" which was so similar to the almond cake. Dry. Bland. And disappointing. Sigh. It also LOOKED exactly the same. Thirdly is the banana cream pie. It was my first time eating banana cream pie but I guess i wasn't a huge fan since I was expecting more cake than cream. It had a very pungent banana taste. After eating this, you can't even taste the first two cakes. In the end I had a vanilla bean milkshake which you could hardly taste the vanilla bean. And it wasn't very thick. Boo. Really wish delivery be a better experience with this business. I've ordered about 4/5 times now, and they are a big fan of piling (up to 3) pieces of cake on top of each other into one small box. I have NEVER been more disappointed in a $7 piece of cheesecake, and that's a bold statement coming from a girl who has never met a piece of cake she didn't love. I just moved to the area and heard good things about True Confections. I stopped in last night and got a piece of the white chocolate raspberry to go, which was recommended by the server who helped me. The service was ok, but I'm sad to say that I was sorely disappointed by my cheesecake. When I got home and opened the box, I couldn't believe how small it was!! I figured it would be ok because it would taste amazing... but I was wrong. The cheesecake had poor flavour, it was bland and almost had a bit of that refrigerator taste. The "three berry sauce" they included on the side tasted like it had gone bad. My boyfriend tasted it and agreed on both counts. If I had been dining in the restaurant I would have sent it back, but unfortunately I was already at home for the evening so I threw it out. I ordered a cake for a birthday for an elderly person. It was a White Savannah Cream Cake large size. What was made looked like a large bundt cake with a large whole at the center of cake. It was a present birthday cake so it was embarrassing and disappointing as tons of candles would not fit on it. It was ordered and paid on their website to be picked up a by a person living in Vancouver BC . Their website that I ordered from had a picture of a cake (full cake no whole in the middle). It listed sizes as small, medium and large. It did not say anything about the fact that large cake would not be a "full" cake and that it would have a whole in the middle. I found out about this when I sent them an email to complain about it. If I knew there was a whole in the middle I would have ordered a medium cake. I would not order anything from this place unless you pay in person upon pick up and you are the person who ordered it so you know exactly what was advertised and what you agreed to pay for. read more

I shared my slice with a friend and it was the right amount and delicious once I scraped off all the jam. There was only one server working and you're supposed to wait to be seated but since he's running around grabbing all these various items for a full house of people we had to seat ourselves. We were in a bit of a rush so we stood up to pay and order at the desk despite him continuing to tell us to wait. We could have waited except that waiting for him to come just to serve us did not make sense when we could easily walk up to the counter and order. My advice to this restaurant is that they don't treat it like a dine in a restaurant and treat it more like a deli where you have one guy placing orders and then he calls numbers so people can come up and grab it that would save him a lot of time because the dining experience is not meeting the cut. read more

So I was worried, but when I was in the area the place only had 3 tables full so I convinced myself to test this place out. I browsed their cake selection and decided on the Banana cream pie which I read another Yelper rave about. I ordered from the man at the cash register and sat down. The service was quick, since it wasn't too busy and the waiter served me water and refilled it later. Adequate service. The pie was delicious, it had a thickness to it that was definitely filling. It wasn't super sweet but did give me a bit of a sugar rush after eating it. At 6.95 for a slice of pie it's not out of the park expensive, more in the range of most restaurants for desserts. The trick to enjoying this place is to know what to order. Once again, having comfortably ensconced my car in a free lot nearby, I decided to bring a friend here for dessert instead of going elsewhere. They must have stuck to the original supplier. Mia was our server, she was about the only hardworking & very amicable & pleasant staff. They used to have great house coffee, not anymore... they were cheap about it, the coffee was stale, came out lukewarm & bitter ( the kind that taste like old coffee that should have been change to a pot of fresh brew) At $3.75 a cup, I expected better. There was a young man, perhaps the owner's son? All he did was stand at the counter ordering staff around, the only time that he was serving, he serve to 2 good looking young ladies. Otherwise NADA! I asked him for coffee refill politely (no choice, that was my only caffeine for the day) No verbal acknowledgment like " I will get you some" Just look at me half- nodded & never came back for my coffee refill , perhaps I was not young or good looking enough. He went back to his counter & hang around. While Mia was running around serving customers. I managed to get her attention & she came back to refill my coffee. We had witnessed customers walked out as no one came to attend to them while they were at the front waiting for seating. That young man was still hanging out at the counter. I love True Confection, the previous group of staff were attentive & friendly. The only person who was friendly & attentive at her best was Mia. My last time there. Their focused dedication to dessert is admirable. No beating around the bush. No pretending that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that vegetables are a necessary component of a healthy diet. This place serves only to indulge. The stock varies throughout the day with selection being a bit more limited towards the end of the night. True Confections is normally frequented by those who live in the area, tourists and students, and it is regularly quite busy with at least a fifteen-minute wait being a necessary part of the experience. I'm partial to their strawberry concoctions, with their light and airy sponge and frothy icing, but the chocolate delights almost have me defecting their way.
