I had a passionfruit colada, and matcha horchata. Both full of flavor and not too sweet. One person in our party ordered the smoothie which was a little thick for our taste, but the flavor was good. For appetizers, we split the lemon ricotta muffins (super moist and lemony, and I'm not a muffin person) and the truffle honey flatbread which was SO GOOD! It was topped with some nicely dressed greens. For entrees, I had the spicy Panang curry. I didn't find it spicy at all, it was actually pretty sweet. Still tasty, and I added tofu as a protein. The rest of our table had the garden scramble (with chicken meatballs), breakfast tacos (one with and one without meat), and a Korean noodle bowl. The ambiance was very spacious and naturally bright. I am a fan of True Food Kitchen. I was told about it a while back but didn't try it until recently on a trip to PA. I had a very favorable experience and couldn't wait to try again when back in the DMV. We came to this location after deciding we wanted to have a good quality lunch that wouldn't have us feeling heavy and icky. And this is a great spot. I started with a hot matcha horchata which was exactly what I needed on a cold day. For a starter, I ordered the herb hummus with pita...pretty good. And for our meal I ordered the butternut squash pizza and my lunch date ordered the teriyaki chicken. Both really good. I am very partial to their vegan pizzas...pizza without cheese? Yes, and it's good. Just good whole ingredients, lots of garlic and yummy "ricotta." The service was pretty good. It became a little busy after we received our lunch but still responsive. This restaurant is newly opened, so there are certainly some kinks to work out. One of the biggest kinks is the customer service. Upon walking in, we were greeted and taken to a indoor table. The lunch crowd was busy on a Monday. For almost 10 minutes, no waiter or waitress came to our table. Finally, this waitress noticed us when we waved one over. Although she said that we would have good service from then on, we never saw her again. In fact, one of us walked to the hostess to ask for the check because we kept watching for her and couldn't find her again. Wandered in to True Kitchen while shopping today. We were seated in a comfy corner booth while Jay went over the menu with us. It happened to be happy hour so we decided to graze off the starter menu. We ordered 4 starters, but before they arrived Jay brought us the cutest tiny cup of fresh tomato soup, and told us it was complimentary! We really enjoyed chatting with Jay, he's laid back a has a fun personality. First up was the Chili Cuke Crunchers, which reminded us of a favorite dish of ours only elevated. Next we shared chicken and beef street tacos, they were filled with flavor and a few twists of ingredients. The beef was super tender! Then out came the grilled cheese dippers and tomato soup. The sourdough is house made and delicious with smooth, melty cheese, perfect for dipping. Lastly, we had the Buffalo Cauliflower. It was charred just a bite for a nice crunch, creamy with blue cheese and had celery leaves as a nod to celery sticks with buffalo wings. It was the perfect addition. I attended the Fall tasting menu this evening and found the new tastes to be pleasing. My standouts were the steak tenderloin, grape fruit margarita, blood orange margarita, and peanut butter chocolate tart. Did I mention that I am both gluten and dairy free. They accomodated both allergies with no problem. You want to come to these tastings too! Welcome champagne glass that was refilled, 3 courses with multiple tastings on the appetizer, margarita flight with or without alcohol (they have zero proof tequila!!). I am a return customer but this was my first menu tasting. I am now a fan. Less we forget the attentive and gracious staff every time I visit. You guys rock! read more

I've been to a few locations of True Food Kitchen (it's a chain in many states/cities), but I always enjoy the food. It has a lot of healthy options (calories are listed on the menu), but their food doesn't sacrifice the flavor! I stopped by for an early solo dinner when I was in Annapolis for a work trip a few weeks ago. I enjoyed a half pour of wine (they offer full or half glasses), the edamame dumplings, and the kale salad. The service was great. The restaurant is bright, new, and HUGE. So when I walked in I anticipated quick service and delicious food... unfortunately that wasn't the case. The environment is amazing, there were only 2 other tables occupied so surely it wouldn't be slow... I had really high hopes... The waitress started out super kind and helpful, but that transitioned as a party came in later. We started to have to ask for things and the wait was ridiculous. For burgers and pizza, we waited an incredibly long time. When the food came out, my pizza, while delicious, was barely lukewarm. My husbands burger was supposedly hardly flavored and my kids burgers were dry as anything. I took a small bite as we packaged up their leftovers and it made sense why they didn't eat much. I was super disappointed to spend over $100 to eat out and have such less than mediocre food and slow service. Meh. We live in Arlington and have eaten at the True Food Kitchen in Ballston many times. What's what prompted us to stop here for dinner on our way to the Eastern Shore. Apparently, not all True Foods are equal. Clearly, this one is inferior. The food was bland, the service was lackadaisical, and the booth seating was surprisingly uncomfortable. Fun fact, restaurant seating is sometimes designed to be "not too comfortable" to discourage diners from lingering. In this case, it was over designed for discomfort. We will still be going back to our local True Foods without a second thought. We will never go back to this place. And from this experience, other True Foods will be approached with healthy skepticism. read more

I ordered the grilled chicken on a salad of apples, raisins, pecans and cheese and he ordered a double plant-based burger with sweet potato hash. We split THE BEST appetizer in the world - Edamame Guacamole with their amazing House-made Pita chips. We both said that we could've gotten full on the chips and guac alone! We had the granddaughters with us, so we quick;y ordered the cheese pizza, was was all eaten! I also ordered the blueberry lemonade which was refreshing. For dinner, I went with the Korean Grilled Steak, it had forbidden rice, book choy, and a gochujang glaze, miso sesame vinaigrette... it was so good and had a little kick to it. The wife ordered the Grilled Chicken Parmesan and insisted I try it... WOW... it was fantastic. My daughter ordered the Poke Bowl and it was all gone before I even asked her how it was!
