This was my first time dining in and although the server was the best something seemed off about the visit. We were sat around a round table close by the patio door and as the door opened an closer the cool brief was a bit uncomfortable. So the server who greeted us noticed and asked us if we wanted to move and we agreed. However, the next round table had a piece of hair wrapped around the knife which I'm sure had to be whomever was in chair of setting the table. So, as you can probably guess that put a bit of hesitation into whether we were going to stay and dine. The entire time thinking and wondering what else would have a hair in it. Thankfully our food came and no additional hairs were present. I ordered the turkey burger but this time with the fries. The air-fried fries were a bit different as they seemed more like fry pieces. The broken fries that are normally at the bottom of the bag. I myself won't order them again and was happy that the turkey burger was still as delicious as i remember. I thought True Food Kitchen would offer a delicious, but healthy meal. Instead the food was bland and forgettable. We ended up going elsewhere to eat after trying the food here. It was juicy, fresh, and bursting with flavor, and the bun was soft. He also had a side of sweet potatoes, which paired perfectly with the burger. He mentioned feeling satisfied but not overly full afterward. I chose the Chinese chicken salad, which came with generous slices of grilled chicken. I opted for the dressing on the side since I'm allergic to ginger. It was good but I probably would find something different next time since it was a little dry with no dressing. I love that. I had my first and last experience here tonight. Our waitress, who was doing her best, shared that they were out of some items, and come to find out, they were out of all but one entree, no chicken breasts, not gluten free buns, and more. The reason was a "change in the summer menu". I have never had an experience where half the menu wasn't available. I felt bad for the servers who had to share it with the customers as it was awkward and they shouldn't be put in this spot. They should have just closed if they didn't have half their options. I'm definitely in my crunchy era, so I was excited to try True Food Kitchen! The restaurant vibes were modern and clean. And it's nice that they have both indoor and outdoor seating. My husband and I did the dinner duo where you could choose an app, two entrees and a dessert. I might have had too high of expectations, everything was good, but not great. I definitely appreciate the real, whole ingredients and sourdough though! Service was good, nothing special. There was some confusion with our order and us getting double of things. Timing was a little off too, our sides came out when we were almost done with our entrees, but dessert came out before we were done with our entrees. Nothing major. I was super full by the end of the night, but not overly stuffed, like I still felt good, which is a true testament of their real, whole foods! I think I'll be back! read more

I got a pasta with chicken, I was very impressed by the pasta with its mix of vegetables, fun pasta, shapes, herbs and such. I was much less impressed by the chicken which seemed small (but ok to be fair it's organic and such) -- and I chose the option to get it blackened, but it looked like it had just been mildly toasted. Less carcinogens for my health, i suppose? If Yelp had a Hall of Fame for servers, Bailey would already have a statue out front... probably holding a tray in one hand and solving world peace with the other. From the moment we sat down, Bailey appeared like some kind of hospitality ninja--friendly, fast, and somehow already knowing what we needed before we did. I'm pretty sure she refilled my drink before I even realized it was empty. At one point, I considered testing her by thinking really hard about needing ketchup... and boom--there it was. Either she's incredibly attentive or mildly psychic. I'm not ruling anything out. Bailey didn't just take our order--she guided us through it like a seasoned tour guide of Flavor Town. Her recommendations were spot on, and I would trust her with major life decisions at this point. Career advice? Probably solid. Fantasy football picks? Undeniably elite. What really stood out though was her energy. She made the whole experience fun without being over the top--like the perfect mix of professional and "we've been friends for 10 years." The kind of server that makes you want to come back, not just for the food, but to see if she's working. Honestly, if every restaurant had a Bailey, the service industry would collapse because no one could compete. 10/10. Five stars. Update. We never got our money back, even tho they offered to refund it and we have followed up, This has happened two other times. One time we only got half of a pretty large order, another time they left off a pizza- not a big deal but we still should have been refunded, since it was like 25 bucks with the gluten free crust. Both times we have had to call repeatedly (last time we called SIX times before it was resolved). GUYS- don't offer a refund if you're not going to process it! We selected True Foods to bring an out of town guest for a fresh seasonal meal. Sadly we chose the wrong place for a good meal. The food took forever to arrive. We watched multiple tables who arrived after us receive their food, eat and leave, while we sat and waited for our food. After the long wait we were all very hungry. Sadly, the food was a disappointment, it was not the mouthwatering, savory bites promised on the menu. Rather, the flavor was bland and underwhelming. The salmon was undercooked and the dessert was nothing special. This was not the meal we had hoped for with our company. Given the slow service and mediocre food quality, I cannot recommend True Foods at the Plaza in KC. Lastly, we watched as other customers were given a laminated QR code and asked to leave a review. When our check arrived we were not provided with that same QR code. This doesn't say we want honest reviews. In truth, I never write reviews, had I been asked to provide my feedback I likely would not have done so. Went on a Wednesday night. Place was not too busy, which was perfect. Service was quick, friendly, and efficient. The bright eyes drink was fresh with a slight kick from the ginger. Ordered the roasted brussel sprouts which were flavorful and tangy with that squeeze of lime. The vibe is chill yet classy. Great place for a date or just to grab drinks. My server was really nice, Mary may have been new but she handled my questions and everything quickly. My only complaint is that this place is so far from my apartment. read more

We love this place! This is my second time back. I took my wife and another couple after I had a business meeting there last time. Both couples enjoyed the Thai noodles, one with tofu and the other with chicken and they were amazing! my dining companion had the veggie double cheeseburger and I had the grass-fed cheeseburger! Everyone enjoyed their meals immensely the place was magnificent. I love the interior here as well as the incredibly friendly staff and staff. Free parking is just up the street next-door. Came mid-day. Completely empty, but the host attempted to seat us right next to the only other table in the restaurant. Strange choice, told her we would prefer literally any other table. Nothing wrong with sitting next to someone, but in an empty restaurant, it's awkward at best. Ordered 2 burgers medium. They came completely charred. Didn't send back, was not feeling confident. It begs the question, why offer temperature preference if it's going to come charred regardless. The flavor was not there. Pretty expensive for what tasted like a backyard burger, salt & pepper are your friend. The menu is a little limited - probably due to hamstringing themselves in ingredient options. The building is nice, located in a lovely area. It does feel like a waste of a really nice spot. Big company with big name investors, unfortunately, it seems they will be able to weather burning money due to not being busy & providing nothing special other than 'no seed oils & fresh ingredients.' Seasonal pizzas here are undeniably fresh and fantastic. It also doesn't hurt they are included during the happy hour specials. The last time I popped into this healthy sit down eatery on the country club plaza the flavor of the season was a delectable butternut squash variety. The chewy thin crust had the perfect char and the aromatic sage and thanksgiving adjacent spices made for such a pleasant eating experience. Every bite reminded me of the nuances of why I like winter instead of the existential dread it can bring. The warm garlicky flavors with the subtle sweetness of the buttery orange squash worked extremely well together. Additions to the pie included rich deeply amber caramelized onions and hearty dollops of creamy vegan?! ricotta cheese, that could have used a little bit of salt and pepper but almost has a cottage cheese texture, for being dairy free it was darn good! read more

One of my fav spots in KC for a quick bite! It's very reliable and has a wide range of things to choose from. The inside has a great vibe & when it's nice enough outside, their patio is one of my favorites! They also have great seasonal selections. I got their lunch "True Trio" special where you can choose a main + pairing + beverage for $19.50. I got the pink dragon fruit lemonade (delicious and very refreshing), edamame dumplings (I really enjoyed these + the unique flavor of the dashi), & the mediterranean wrap (I added chicken and it was pretty good!). Will always come back to this place and get to try something new. How is this place still in business? We have gone here at least 6 times over the last 2 years and the service is always subpar. The restaurant always seems to be under staffed. Service has never been efficient. The food is fine; sometimes good, sometimes could be better, but it has never been outstanding.
