We visit True Food Kitchen Biltmore frequently because of the consistency, quality and healthy options they offer and they did not disappoint. I am giving it four stars because we had a lunch reservation and arrived 10 minutes late. Upon our arrival we were reprimanded by the young hostess for being late. Another young girl was instructed to seat us and started heading us to the outdoor patio. Please keep in mind that it was 12:30 in Arizona and it was a mere 113 degrees outside. I asked kindly for a table inside and she informed me it would be a 30 minute wait. She said if we wanted an inside table we had to give specific instructions when making reservations, however, as with most restaurants they ask for your preference when making a reservation....not True Foods. The hostess then asked the other young lady...who clearly is not happy with her job...to take us to an indoor table. We were seated in the back of the restaurant by this young lady who was extremely rude and simply dropped our menus on the table and walked away. I observed her throughout our visit and it was the same behavior with every customer she seated. Needless to say there were plenty of tables in the back of the restaurant that were not occupied and remained unoccupied throughout our meal...so why the 30 minute wait??? It was all about the lack of respect by the hostess and young lady that led me to write this review and give it four stars! read more

There are very few places that I eat where the food is better than what I can cook at home. Including Fleming Steakhouse where my husband wanted to go for his birthday, and our bill was over $200. I just ate at True Food Kitchen and had to kill guacamole and the grass fed beef burger and that was the best meal I have had in years. Absolutely delicious. You will not be sorry if you eat here. It seems like a vegetable kind of place but it actually has very good meat selections. I've never had a grass-fed burger that tasted good, and the one I ate today was absolutely delicious. It's going to be hard to not want to go there all the time. And I also got the food to go so I didn't even eat it Fresh Off The Grill I didn't eat it for about 20 minutes after I picked it up. Spot on delicious! Super fresh food. Try the grapefruit martini to start. We had sea bass over the top sweet and moist, cooked to perfection with ancient grains and broccoli ingredients. Edemami dumplings were tender and tasty. Burnt cauliflower was to die for, and last but not least were the desserts. We had squash pie with coconut cream whipped cream and dark graham cracker crust and flourless chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. Go, go now! Not inexpensive, but worth every bit of it. I recently had a wonderful lunch experience at True Food! They have multiple vegetarian options to offer making it difficult to decide what to order. True Food is just "okay". The food wasn't bad but wasn't amazing. The service was decent but the server couldn't answer a few questions about what oils they used in the kitchen. Beware: True Food uses A LOT of buzz words and phrases on their menu to make you think everything is organic. There are phrases like, "True Food follows guidelines regarding organic produce." This doesn't mean the produce is organic. I didn't have an amazing experience here but I didn't have a horrible one - Very mediocre place that appeals to the bland, average, basic suburban family. If you want to feel like you're eating healthy but also wash it down with a bottle of wine, this is the place to go. With that out of the way - The food is pretty good. It's reasonably priced but for the same price, there are a dozen other restaurants in Phoenix that have far better items. But it's decent for what it is. Well... I tried doing at the local spot numerous times. I'm gluten free all picky is good. The menu looks perfect.. but every time I stop in (2-3) I can't seem to fight out what to order. So I finally ate there tonight. Lovely food.. Different out eclectic taste. Nothing was typical, which doesn't mean the new was outstanding. This is a great healthy option that is so very tasty you won't miss eating like a greasy glutton (which is what I usually do). A highlight was the hangover drink. It was so very good. We had the edamame dumplings with had a smooth texture on the inside and was in a nice broth with some savory smoky flavors. I recommend them for sure to start. We also had the kale guacamole which was delicious and will satisfy even those who hate kale. The chips they come with are nice and crunchy with a good sturdiness to pick up a lot of guacamole in one go. For entree, we got the grilled chicken salad and the pan roasted chicken, both were excellent! I plan on becoming a regular here. read more

I love, love, love this place! I've been there a dozen times and each time, I was always happy with my meal and service. This restaurant is located in Biltmore Fashion Park. Finding parking is pretty easy. There is a ticket-serviced parking lot or valet service. If you self-park, the restaurant will validate your ticket for up to 2-hours. So there's enough time to enjoy some nourishing food and you still have enough time to go for a little shopping! Everything about the restaurant "feels" and "looks" green - their dishes are made only from the freshest ingredients. Derived from the True Food Kitchen cookbook concept, bringing this restaurant to life is definitely a hit! It gets pretty crowded here during peak lunch and dinner hours. I've had to wait for a table a few times, but it's never a ridiculous wait. There are ample of indoor seating, and their outdoor patio seats are great, too. Everything in their menu is indicated with vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free; so their dishes are very friendly to those with special dietary needs. One of their most popular dishes is their Tuscan Kale - simple yet full of body and taste. It's great to order one and share with a friend. I am a die-hard fan of the wild mushroom pizza and I always ask my server to add kale on top. This is by far one of my favorite dishes to get. Every time I come here, I try to mix it up, but I always come back to this dish! Other dish that I have enjoyed is the spaghetti squash casserole. Despite being a pasta dish, it is quite light and filling, with just the right amount. They've perfected the portion sizes because none of their dishes are served in the size of your head! So you can easily clean off your plate without feeling like having to ask your friend to roll you out the front door. And don't forget to try one of their drinks from the Natural Refreshments list! My favorite is the cucumber refresher that is mixed in with honey lemonade. It really is refreshing, with a tiny hint of sweetness, but totally delicious! My other pick is the Hangover Rx - the coconut water mixed with pineapple and fresh orange juice is a great brunch drink. Oh, and you can easily turn any of these drinks into an alcoholic beverage. Just ask your server about their organic mixes! Their staff is always friendly. Service gets a little slower during peak hours but that is understandable. I always have a great experience here. This place has become a sort of go-to or fall-back restaurant in the Biltmore area, because you know you could never go wrong with this pick! It's fresh, flavorful, healthy, and centrally located. Here's a little secret tip: you can ask your server to create a half and half dish. I had a really great experience here tonight! I called around 5:30 and made a reservation for 8:00 pm because we were going to stop in before going to the airport. Our waitress was super sweet and helpful in regards to us being in a time crunch. She brought our bill out after we ordered so that we would be ready to pay after we ate. I ordered the artichoke roasted tomato garlic pizza topped with herbed cashew ricotta cheese. This pizza was SO yummy. I ate the whole thing and ordered a piece of key lime pie for the road. I enjoyed the key lime pie but wasn't crazy about the crust. Honestly this is an awesome place for vegans and their non vegans or vegan friends/partners/families. Very nice place with good staff. I had the Turkey bolognese and flourless chocolate cake. Both tasted great but the portions are unnecessarily small. When i pay $14 for a bowl of pasta I want the bowl full. All people with a gluten intolerance are not dieting women. Some like me are 200lb gym-going men. Similarly the tiny scoop of vanilla ice cream was not enough to wash down the small chocolate cake cupcake. Come on guys, don't skimp on inexpensive ingredients. read more

I've gone here a couple times and the reason I keep coming back is their bison burger. Other than that, I feel like everything else I've tried is pretty bland. They do have a cucumber drink and that's really good, but I feel like I can finish my drink in 10 seconds, half the glass is filled with ice. I think I am in love with the harvest pomegranate salad--it has butternut squash, nuts, goat cheese, apples and pom seed vinaigrette. Then I had the butternut squash ravioli which was all I could hope for as well. The restaurant is light, open and the staff is all wearing yoga style outfits--very Andrew Weil! Drinks are real stupid and overpriced, service was slow, really slow, taking forever just to get water, in fact had to ask 3 times to have it brought to us. Came to this delicious restaurant while visiting a girlfriend in the Phoenix area. I wish I hadn't; only because it's all I think about! Started with a Bloody Mary--best one I've had. You can taste the fresh-ness, like they literally made the tomato juice there themselves. We ordered the edamame dumplings as an appetizer. So fresh and light. A great starter to a meal, as it was not too large/heavy.. We ordered three meals to share/taste: spaghetti squash, autumn salad, and turkey burger with sweet potato hash. The favorite by far was the spaghetti squash as our conversation revolved around the question of HOW to make this! The food is excellent. The service was "okay." Our server was somewhat nonexistent. Fortunately for her, the food makes up for that here. Yes, coming from a server veteran herself, I did just say that the service can be poor if the food is this delicious. Another tough one that will require revisiting and re-scoring in a few to several months, if things change. Had a few visits so far, with generally good but mixed results. THE CONCEPT - 4 Stars I'm no Weil disciple who drops to their knees and goes all agape for his every utterance. But I think he is the perfect partner for a Fox concept, as long as the fresh, fresh, fresh motto is adhered to over the long term. I like some of the Fox places (okay one, Greene House) and it's the same chef that opened True Food. My Dad was recently diagnosed with Seliac Disease and seeing more and more restaurants acknowledge that dietary restriction on gluten is important to a growing segment of people is refreshing. The menu makes it easy to distinguish between various dietary regimens and other considerations, in both food and drink. I eat anything, but it sure makes it easier to eat with those who are justifiably (and sometimes unjustifiably) conscious of what they put in their bodies. Everything from the mixed drinks to the food items seems to be VERY fresh, or at least sourced very well. THE SPACE - 4 Stars Simple, modern, open California kitchen appeal. I like how they raised the ceiling of the old Coffee Plantation shithole. The mural wall and the over-sized lamps are fun. Open kitchens are always a little more fun and give you something to talk about if your date is lacking in conversational acumen. THE EXECUTION (for now) - 3 Stars Service They're trying. Things still seem jittery with some of the servers. Have seen a lot of food go to the wrong tables and places. I'm sure they'll work through that. Everyone is friendly, but not necessarily knowledgable about the food. Sure they've memorized the spiel, but these aren't foodie servers. They're young, friendly folks working at a hip spot. Food Have tried several things that were tasty and fresh, if not particularly interesting. They just kind of show you that you can eat stuff that is relatively healthy and not have it taste like nothing. A few things so far have shined: the spelt pizzas have a unique, chewy crust and nice toppings. The Kale Salad is unique and delicious. Nice textures. The Shrimp Dumplings are nice, but make you yearn to eat real chinese, or make your own like you like 'em. Steak Tacos are of the Fresh Mex variety but have a great char. On the downside... I had the Turkey Bolognese Penne. To me, there is never an excuse for overcooked pasta. If you cook it, and it's overdone, throw it away and cook it again. Check your pasta, it's the heart of the dish. I neglected to order "al dente" because so many places give you that look like "But of course, signore!" And you shouldn't have to ask for pasta to be done that way. That's the only way it should be done, unless you're eating Spaghettios. As for the sauce, it tasted like diced San Marzano's which is great! But if you use the canned San Marzano's omit the little pieces with the unchewable stem base. Cut that part out or pitch the piece. I added shrimp to the dish at the server's suggestions, despite my past history of NOT combining shrimp and turkey. Call me crazy, but that's just not a combo I yearn for. Would have been fine though, except that the shrimp were completely undercooked. I eat shrimp raw, when I intend to, but that clear uncooked shrimp is not the texture you want in a cooked dish. At sashimi/sushi, yes. Pasta, no. Seems to happen a lot though. And no discernible seasoning or flavor to them either. My wife's salmon was largely flavorless, and very rare. Fine for us as we love raw salmon. But at a certain point, she just would have preferred sashimi and the accompanying soy sauce. I'm sure the amount or rareness would have been a problem for many diners. Especially when combined with almost no salt. On that note, the fresh fish crudo of the day was a nice hamachi with an excellent yuzu/miso (? - that's what it tasted like) sauce. BOTTOM LINE - 3 Stars for now I could see this going either way in the future, but if they stay fresh and improve on the execution, it's a no-brainer that they will end up a 4 star. I don't think they'll ever hit 5 stars, just because their commitment to the healthy stuff and a very broad appeal will keep them from really being able to push it from a culinary standpoint. read more

The food and service were excellent and if my rating was solely based on that I would have given True Food 5 stars. BUT, after using the restroom, and witnessing my server cleaning the splash zone around the urinal, my rating went down to 2 stars. Even though I saw my server wash his hands, I was still grossed out. I know someone needs to clean the bathroom, but does it really have to be my server?!?! Don't get me wrong, I was not mad at the staff, because I am sure they were just doing their job, but I really wish I did not have to see that. I really love this place and always get good service and delicious food but I just don't appreciate my servers also cleaning the bathrooms and then handling my food. I will say this place gets packed really fast. I met a friend for lunch this day. We skipped on the appetizers and went straight for the meals. I ordered the grass fed burger and a side of fries. I will say the burger was really tasty and fresh. The fries were really good too. I have had a lot of burgers in my time and this is one of the best. I am not sure if it was buffalo or beef. Good food, decent service, nice atmosphere although you do have to shout over the cougs at lunch. It's a pain in the A$$ to get a table at lunch if you are there after 11:30 or before 1PM. I was extremely ill after eating the Ahi sliders last time however; so violently ill I thought I might not make it back across the street to my office. We have been wanting to try True Food kitchen for about a month and when we found ourselves in the area, we decided to pop in for lunch. It was a nice, cool afternoon and were seated on the patio. Since it was our first time, our server gave us an overview about True Food and what the menu means. My husband selected a Skinny Citrus Margarita and I had a Juniper Rose. Both drinks were refreshing but probably best in a warmer day but still quite good. We each had a bowl lunch: winter immunity and teriyaki quinoa. Both were very delicious! I wanted to love this place.. The only dish I truly enjoyed was the Avocado/Spinach dip and gluten free pitas. I think our waiter's pretentious attitude ruined the food, and atmosphere. When I asked Andrew about a dish, his response was in an I am much better than you because I am a vegan tone... "I don't know, because I don't eat that." Is really not the response you are looking for, I usually am one to chuck it up to ok maybe he is having a bad day... But It was like everything about him was sour, which I think soured the experience. My friend ordered the spaghetti squash without cheese, and Andrew rolled his eyes... I would of thought he would of clapped, since it now would be vegan... He sulked away... The food came, and My friends dish tasted of Lighter fluid, when we brought it to Andrew's attention... he just took it away, he was unapologetic, he did not state whether he would get a new one or offer her another option. We watched as he spoke with the manager and pointed at our table... The manager however was very friendly, and apologetic. He brought the new dish out, which tasted and smelled great. If only that could of saved the evening from Andrew's attitude. We did not see Andrew again, another server brought us our check, and took it to process the cards. As a person with special dietary restrictions (I mostly eat AIP) I am constantly on the look out for places I can safely eat. Not only could I eat most of the items on the menu, but the food is just delicious! It is a little pricey for what you get, but it doesn't bother me considering the high quality food and warm, attentive service.
