First time I had a sliced brisket sandwich from the Magnolia HEB I was impressed - not the absolute best I'd ever eaten - but it was good - that was about 2 years ago. Hit it again a few weeks later - same order - and the brisket was way more fatty than my first visit - I was disappointed - and pretty much crossed it off the list. barbeque is not cheap and I don't relish spending my hard earned money on bad food. Decided yesterday to give it another shot - maybe I just caught a bad brisket or an inexperienced cutter the last time. Not the case. This was THE fattest, greasiest barbeque brisket I had ever encountered - to the point of being inedible. I had fat running down my hand as I attempted consumption - and the carton the sandwich was packaged in had a heck of a puddle going in it. I normally don't give a second chance on food - burn me once and that's it - I should stick to my rule. True Texas BBQ? Don't think so. Maybe True Woodlands Texas Transplants. If you want a good piece of brisket in Magnolia, go see Buddy at The Meating Place on FM 1774 - a little further out, but their quality is good and very consistent - and Buddy is in the middle of the operation to make sure it's good. read more

So used to driving a ways for BBQ. My husband makes after work stops at Central Market and brought up that he had seen (and smelled the bbq) while passing through. Decided we give it a shot and try a few things. We ordered the ribs, fatty brisket, sides of creamed corn and beans and lastly some of the banana pudding. Everything was excellent although we did find the fatty brisket not as moist as another popular chains moist brisket. No biggie. Their barbecue sauce is really good as well sweet and peppery tasting. Only downside we decided to try and download the app that we saw on the brochure. The app had so many issues we ended up just deleting it off the phone. They really need to work on that. The brisket is outstanding. I'm hard pressed to think of better, even around the Austin area. But today is only 3 stars because they were out of so many things. They were out of ALL pudding not just banana as well as cole slaw and it's only 4pm. This is ridiculous for a restaurant. To summarize: BBQ is 5 star excellent. Delicious bar b que. I would recommend to anyone. the only thing I was disappointed in was the cobbler. It was a bread type cobbler which I have never had while living in the south. The cobbler with a homemade crispy pie type crust is all I have had here and it is delicious! I was surprised that HEB bbq only offered the bread type. Service was nice , super clean . We did order online and when I pulled into the designated parking space I had txted the code and number , waited and waited so it obviously doesn't work. I went inside , the guy apologized . I know they are still working out the kinks . My husband loved his el hefe sandwich. We also got 2 baked potatoes - the pulled pork and chopped brisket. Although they were really good , totally disappointed on the serving size portion of the meat, literally a small scoop. I was actually pretty shocked when I opened them up. I love me some barbecue. I can understand each restaurant being individuals with cooking styles and their sauces. I can't understand ordering a sliced brisket sandwich that has two slices of brisket with half of each piece being the connector fat between the top and bottom layer of meat. I've stopped by a few times but the line was long and didn't seem to move very fast. The place always seems pretty full. I finally went in today for a to go order. I gave my order but the computer froze up. The young lady wrote it all down and entered it when the computer cane back. I didn't checkI the order when it came out and they don't repeat it back to you as it's being packed. I ordered the large sausage sandwich and the beans. I got a small turkey and Mac & Cheese. Everything else was ok. I ordered a 2 meat plate for the kids to share but it was skimpy on the meat. The food was good for what you pay but I wouldn't say outstanding in my opinion. I just want to add that I was contacted by management and I am very impressed by that. They wanted to make things right and I appreciate their good business practice. My wife and I tried the HEB BBQ place today and I will agree with another one of the post it does have quiet a bit of pepper on the meat. To me I saw no problem in it, it just has more pepper than other places. The one problem I saw was that the kids meals had the pepper on it. So both of my kids had chicken and the skin had pepper flakes on it. Easy fix for us we just pulled off the skin. As far as the portions, they where good size. I haven't eaten or seen alot of bbq places in Kingwood. One other that I know of and the portions there are small. So food quantity was good. Overall taste was pretty good. Not bad HEB for doing a good job on a bbq place. The employees there were also nice. The cashier was happy not some grumpy hate my job employee. So that made a welcoming atmosphere. The family stops in fairly often. We usually get the same order each time. The consistency here is lacking, usually its an enjoyable meal. Coming here keeps me from going to Dickeys or Spring Creek. Most of my family likes the brisket, but lean. So when you pick up your order, you have to double check everything. Just about every time at least one will not be lean. I understand a little fat around the edges etc, but a complete marble of fat is not lean. You pay extra for lean on every order. It is not a cheap place either. Its good enough, considering there is nothing better in kingwood proper. Oh, yeah, clear your own trays and trash, cant stand that. Why can't we have real plates? A tray with a paper in it , does not make me think this is more authentic, or its something special. I am thinking did you wash the tray? I dont eat off of a tray at burger king, or Chick fil a. Usually the BBQ here is good. The last couple of times we've been there the service has not been very good at all. Our last visit was the last straw. Arrived late afternoon and upon placing our order was told there was no lean sliced beef. What BBQ restaurant runs out of sliced beef at dinner time? We reluctantly changed our order to the "fatty" beef but told the cashier that the last time they were out of lean beef that the beef they gave us was pretty much all fat, no meat. She said she would ask them to trim the fat off our beef. I said ok, thanks that will work. Well, guess what the meat was still terribly fatty. Ugh!! My husband went to get a tea and there wasn't any unsweetened tea left. He told the cashier and she walked over and took the dispenser. After about 15 minutes he asked another lady when they were going to bring out the unsweetened iced tea. Ends up the first woman took the dispenser to the back and went on a break. The second lady ended up brewing a new dispenser of tea. When I went to get sweet BBQ sauce there wasn't any BBQ sauce either. I told the original cashier. She said hmmm..I thought I just refilled that. Both my husband and I ended up getting sick to our stomachs after we got home...not sure if there was something wrong with the food or if it was all of the fat on the meat. Having been to most of the top BBQ joints in Texas, I feel I can give this a "True Texas" review. My family's order included a loaded turkey potato, fatty brisket & chicken plate, lean brisket & sausage plate, sliced beef sandwich, and sides of brisket beans, Mac & cheese, potato salad. Both the fatty & lean brisket tasted good however not anything to rave about. The portion sizes were too small for the two meat plate though. I literally only received one slice of fatty brisket. The sliced brisket sandwich was definitely the better value. The chicken (leg quarter) was a good portion size and flavor but was not cooked enough and tough to the bone. Sausage was lean but not a lot of flavor. Beans were also good but undercooked. Potato salad needed seasoning but otherwise decent. Macaroni and cheese was ok but again not anything special. Turkey potato had a good flavor and my daughter enjoyed it. Best thing I had was the root beer and cream soda. If I visit again, I would stick to the sandwiches or the stuffed potatoes. Having said that, I would never order either at a real "True Texas " BBQ restaurant. With a little work this place could improve. This concerns my meal at True Texas BBQ in Huntsville, TX (which I cannot directly find in H-E-B's pull down contact menu). The brisket was just okay, but both the sides of potato salad and green beans were the worst I've ever eaten in my life. H-E-B's own Hill Country Fare brand of potato salad and green beans would have been a much better choice than what passed for sides at this location. I'm still kicking myself for not walking across the street to eat at McKenzie's Bar B Que or across town to eat at the much superior Bennie J's Smoke Pit or Church BBQ. Please have someone do so and see just how bad your sides really are in comparison or at least allow the substitution of H-E-B's own Hill Country Fare Brands. read more

I had the half chicken and couldn't believe how moist it was. I would give this place 4 or 5 stars but I could not eat my chicken with plastic utensils. We ordered a party pack for twelve. I read before ordering it included 4 sides potato salad, coleslaw, green beans and pinto beans and no substitutions were allowed. The meat and pinto beans were good, but the two salads were swimming in mayo the green beans had chunks of tomatoes in them! What?! We threw away the salads and picked tomatoes out of beans!! I understand they have this policy so you will buy extra sides, but I feel substitutions should be allowed. I will not order party pack again. read more

My husband and I decided to get a sandwich to go for lunch today. I ran in and ordered a large pulled pork so we could split it. The sandwich was ok but really nothing to brag about. However, the service needs work. The gentleman from the kitchen brought out one to go sandwich and set it and the receipt on the counter. The lady (Diane) who handles this was off doing something else. Then the kitchen brought out two sandwiches to go, with the receipt. Diane came back, looked at the person next to me and inquired if he had two sandwiches. He did, so she was trying to put his order in a plastic bag, in the mean time a lady comes up to ask a question. She gets the two sandwiches in the bag and in the process, looses my receipt. He leaves, Diane goes to the kitchen to get whatever the lady wanted. By this time a little boy is there asking a question. Diane leaves again to the kitchen to bring the boy a tray and some napkins. Now it is my turn, I hope. Well, my ticket is not to be found because it is wrapped up in the extra plastic bag from the two sandwich to go order. Not at all impressed. Portions were small (3 tiny slices for a serving, really?) Pulled pork tastes like it was cooked in bbq sauce, and served with too much of it . She had the lean beef, I had the fatty. Lean was dry, tough, and tasteless, fatty was delicious though as mentioned before lacking in quantity. There's something to be said for seeing the meat sliced before you get it but you don't get to see that here and that makes it feel pre made instead of fresh.
