It was my sister-in-law's birthday and she wanted to celebrate at True Fire in Frisco. We had been once before, but it had been awhile. We came early at 4:40 pm and found a quieter table in a nook, which was great, because hubby has hearing aids and really, we all seem to have trouble hearing each other talk in most restaurants. We had a wonderful server, Kalie, who was a great recommender, conversationalist and kept us happy, even as the restaurant filled up over time. We started with martinis and a glass of Singing Tree Chardonnay for the b-day girl. We enjoyed the Honey Burrata appetizer. We got the Fire-charred artichoke which I expected to enjoy more, but the seasonings were overkill and you need paper napkins or wet wipes to clean up after. We ordered 2 bottles total of Line 39 Cabernet and really enjoyed it. It was fruit-forward and smoother to us than the 19 Crimes. The Gyro Platter was really good. We did have to order extra condiments and pita, which we understand with prices going up the minimal charges are necessary. The Gyro meat was browned and tender and there is nothing better than hot-off-the-grill homemade pita made with organic flour! We were full but Kalie brought dessert for the birthday girl, complete with a candle and she even sung a few notes to appease....it was the decadent chocolate cake (tasted/texture like lava cake) with vanilla ice cream which was great with the Line 39 Cab, and whoa, the Olive Oil Cake is truly saturated with EVVO and the Lemon whip and blueberries were delicious! Highly recommend. We plan to return when the weather changes to enjoy the wrap-around patio, that looks on to the interior patio with a giant covered in lights large Live Oak next door at J. Theodore, which does NOT overlook the parking lot. It's the way patios should be designed! Made it back last night for what, unfortunately, will likely be our last time before moving. Glad we were able to get back for another visit, because it was much better than the previous time. Service was fairly consistent, albeit a little slow at the end when we were trying to pay. However, food was spot on. The Texas Pecan and Fig salad was great, as was the falafel platter. My go to dish, the gyro saltimbocca, which was overcooked on the last visit, was fabulous this time like it had been on all other occasions, aside from the last visit here. It further solidified my thinking of this gyro dish being my favorite entree of any restaurant out there. If you like pasta and/or Greek food, I suggest you try it. You won't be disappointed. Let me just tell you what happened so you can be the judge. My son likes sushi so he ordered the poke bowl. The server asks whether he wants it with "tuna" or "tuna and salmon". My son tells her "tuna and salmon". The server later comes back with a poke bowl (with raw tuna) and a side of cooked salmon. I ask is this what you mean by a "tuna and salmon" poke bowl? The server says yes. I complain to the manager and she told me that she didn't understand why the salmon was cooked either, but that's how the kitchen does it. She said not to worry, it's only a $3 upcharge. On the receipt I saw there was an $8 upcharge for it. Of course they took off the poke bowl from our tab. As someone who loves Mediterranean food, this place missed the mark for us. The dishes were mediocre at best - and why is there so much flatbread with everything ? lol. For appetizers, we tried the artichoke and crab dip. I wouldn't recommend the artichoke unless you feel like getting your hands dirty but I did like the sauce it came with. The crab dip was good, but like many people have said, you don't taste much crab - it's very greasy, cheesy, and just a bit too much. Our entrees were a naked avocado salad with shrimp and the rosemary chicken pizza . A poor excuse for a 'large' salad - they line the entire outside of the plate with flatbread while the salad itself is minuscule in size . While it tasted good, I'd have loved more salad and less bread. The pizza wasn't bad but very greasy and too thin to support the toppings. It fell apart upon every grab. Our server was kind and the ambiance is nice, but with all the options in this plaza, I would go elsewhere . We won't be back . read more

I had an incredible experience at TruFire. With all the Covid-19 regulations, the service was spectacular! I had the spicy garlic noodles with a Moscow mule mocktail. I sat on the patio because it was very nice out. It was quite busy but the service was so fast! The mule had blueberries in it if you want something refreshing and tart. For my entree, I got one of their most popular dishes recommended by the host and server. It would've gotten 5 stars but the dish was a bit overwhelming with slightly burnt garlic. I loved the meaty mushrooms, crispy prosciutto, and juicy chicken & shrimp. Even though it was noodles, it wasn't heavy! The arugula and Parmesan cheese really brought the dish. It was spicy at all. I wish there would've been a lemon on the side or something acidic to compliment the dish. Don't normally write reviews but the gyro platter's portions were way too small. Vegetables were not enough. Service was good the servers treated me well but the smell of the place was horrible. Popped into Trufire for a late lunch/early dinner on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. We spend a lot of time in Southlake, but had never been to Trufire. The interior decor definitely leaves something to be desired, I think they were going for cozy, rustic, and eclectic but they ended up with mismatched and dated, unfortunately. Thankfully the decor is not a reflection of the quality of the food. Our waitress was friendly and fairly quick, she went missing towards the end of our meal when we were wanting our check, but I believe she was printing out several checks and getting items together for several other tables, so no big deal. We ordered the mediterranean appetizer plate which comes with falafel, hummus, flatbread, tzatziki, and greek salad. Everything was delish! We particularly enjoyed the falafel, which was wonderfully crispy on the outside without being overdone. I got the rosemary chicken pizza and my husband ordered the spicy garlic noodles for our entrees. They came out quickly after the appetizer was served, which was fine, and everything was piping hot. The pizza was pretty good, but I wish the chicken was in smaller chunks and had been put under the cheese, because the very large pieces of chicken were falling off of the pizza when I was eating it. I ended up picking them off to eat separately. I also think they put a little too much cheese on the pizza. It would be wonderful with some ricotta and parmesan instead of the thicker cheese that was on it. The garlic noodles were literally covered in a mound of arugula, it was quite funny, actually. I forgot to get a picture, but it was a full on salad on top of the noodles! The shrimp in the noodles was tasty, but it appeared as though they had cut each shrimp in half, possibly in an attempt at making it look as though there was more shrimp in the dish than there was. All together I think there were maybe 5 shrimp in a $24 dish of noodles, so that wasn't very impressive for the price point. The noodles did have a good level of spice to them and the sauce was tasty. The portions were such that we did take food home, so that was nice. I think I would give Trufire 3.5 stars but, as usual, I round up. It is unlikely that we will go there again considering the myriad of food options in that area that have as good or better food at a lower price point (in my opinion). I would say it is worth a try, though, and hopefully they stay open for the future. read more

It's been a while since we've been here. We've always thought about TruFire as a "special occasion" place, but it's also a good neiborhood eatery. When you come in there's a huge bowl of chocolate mints at the door and my boys always dive in a grab a handful thinking no one's looking. It has a comfortable interior with outdoor seating options with plenty of heaters for when it's a little chilly. We ate inside near the bar where they make some great drinks, but nothing on tap - only bottle beer. Our waiter was great, and gave us good suggestions. We started with The Board which had a selection of meat and cheeses and awesome bread. We also got the crab dip which I was told was good since my son and wife pretty much monopolized it. For an entree I got the Meatball Pasta, with the thicker hollow pasta, tasty meatballs, marinara, and a sunny side up egg. My son got the Trumac, which was always a favorite for him. My wife got the wedge bowl salad which they cut up for her - great option if you're not partial to a chunk of lettuce. My other son got the half pound akaushi burger which he enjoyed. Everything tasted great, the atmosphere was really nice, and we need to remember to come back more often. read more

I have a friend that works at a church near by TruFire, so after we attended we ventured over for brunch. It was a nice day so we sat outside to enjoy the air, they have fans in case it gets too hot which Texas weather is notorious for! We started with the $2 mimosas...yes please! She had the white peach and I decided to try the blueberry...yummers! I ordered the honey smoked salmon benedict which consists of cold salmon, Meyer lemon cream cheese, sautéed spinach, poached eggs, siracha hollandaise, over two slices of sourdough baguette, a side of avocado and sweet potato hash. This dish was great, always my go-to however I wish I would have listened to my first mind and ordered my friends dish which was the heirlooms and eggs-free ranged eggs whites, baby spinach, red onions, white cheddar, 2 slices of heirloom tomatoes and a side of cheesy bruschetta she said it was a hit and would definitely order again! read more

Love finding a new brunch spot close to my place. The ambiance was amazing, it's clean and they have beautiful decor and furniture. Our waiter was ok, I asked for hot water and it came in a water glass, I almost burned my hand when he handed it to me. Usually hot water comes in a coffee cup with a handle. The food was a 6/10 as the sweet potato hash was cold. We were left to checkout on our own and we didn't understand how to use the card reader, we got assisted by another waitress as our waiter had gone to serve another table. TruFire is one of my favorite restaurants in Frisco after only eaten here once. The ambiance is cozy (packed at 6 pm on a Monday), staff is confident and attentive, and the food is outstanding. I let our server, Derek, choose my alcoholic drink and entree and he took it with stride. I gave him one exception for drinks and that was about it; he didn't ask any questions. He came back with the Blackberry Smash and it was freakin phenomenal. A bit on the sweet side due to the powdered sugar but I am not complaining. For appetizer, I chose the Crab Dip and we devoured it. For dinner, he picked the Seafood Garlic Noodles and it was divine. Lots of protein, plenty of carbs, and overall great flavor (bitter from the arugula, tart from the lemon, creamy from the butter, and sweetness from the shrimps). What a beautiful start. This business supports local Texas grown and supports local farmers, ranchers, and artists. Seafood is caught in U.S. Territory's. Some how between the start of this adventure and the end we lost our waitress. She was MIA for quite some time. She's lucky she had a seasoned waiter at another table, he had her back. No silverware and no plates for the appetizers. He brought us some and checked on us from time to time. I had the akaushi burger, son had the Latin fire pizza, DIL had salmon with eggs, and hubby had salad with shrimp. I ate 1/2 of the burger. I cut it in half, it was a nice sized burger. It was cooked to my liking at a medium pink. The meat was great, but those super skinny fries and that weird dipping sauce was strange. I really wanted regular ketchup. Unfortunately, no one came to check on us so I could ask for regular ketchup. Oh well. The ending was wonderful! It's our 37th anniversary! And yes per today's standards that's an anniversary worth celebrating. They brought us a beautiful cake/ice cream (ice cream from Henry's in Plano)to celebrate. It was delicious!! As always TruFire hits another home run. It was one of those lunches where you'd just had company in town for a week and wanted to enjoy some down time and good food! Our cocktails, blackberry smash with Sky Vodka, lemon, mint and fresh blackberries were amazing. We started off our appetizers with the Lil Goat, slow roasted tomatoes, goat cheese, Raspberry jalapeño jam, and torn basil with flatbread! Simply Devine! Next up their infamous "Board" a ever changing delectable medley of meats, cheeses, fruit and breads with a variety of spreads. We decided to split the Ahi-tuna served with an avocado mango chutney salad that is out of this world good and complimented with a mix green salad. A real treat. We came here on a date night last Saturday. This was our first visit. I am vegan and initially mistook this restaurant for another restaurant with a very similar name. Once I realized we were at the wrong restaurant it was kinda late so we opted to just stay here. We shared the hummus as our appetizer and my spouse had the Gyro Platter. The only thing on the menu I could really eat was a salad with all of the protein and cheese removed. I thought $15-$21 was a little steep for just lettuce, no protein and a few fixings, so I instead opted for the Falafel Platter without the yogurt sauce. My spouse absolutely loved his Gyro Platter. It was huge and filling. My Falafel platter was also very good. The hummus had just a little too much garlic in it, but it was still very tasty. I don't drink alcohol and they don't offer non alcoholic drinks besides Pop, but it was ok, water was just fine for me. Our server was very friendly and offered suggestions to help me find something to suit my dietary restriction. I highly recommend trying this place. I would've given it 5 stars if they offered one or two Vegetarian/Vegan options or at least a reasonably priced salad without protein. Came to TruFire for lunch with my girlfriend and sat at the bar, Erin the bartender is amazing! Super sweet and quick service!

We had a reservation for 20, but it ended up being a little less, so they put us in a back secluded area. What we soon realized, was this was literally everyone's shortcut to the kitchen and restroom from the patio. With this in mind, we got sneers, eye rolls and just an off putting feeling from everyone. As we entered that area, we were hit by a smell that can only be described as dirty, greasy mop water and the floors were visibly damp in spots. The service was efficient and quick, no real hiccups, delays or fumbles. The way they had our table set up just made it hard to pass out items and refill drinks. We did notice our servers family sitting close to our section, not sure what was said, but from the look she gave us, it wasn't pleasant. The food, did not live up to the hype unfortunately. The roasted artichoke came out without the sauce, just an empty ramekin. The flavor was not the best, and it was not roasted long enough, as it was still stringy and tough. The humus platter seemed like something they grabbed from Kroger and dropped some roasted pine nuts in for garnish. I got the Steak and Eggs, which was not worth the price tag. The cut was thin, overcooked and under seasoned. The eggs were poached well, but lack any seasoning. The sweet potato hash in the plate was a saving grace. My wife had the Heirlooms and Eggs, which was good and plated well. My son had a the Bourbon French Toast which was great, the side of bacon was crispy and good, but the side of scrambled eggs were bland, not seasoned. It was my mother in law's 70th birthday and no one on staff made it a special occasion. I will say the $3 mimosa is what you'd expect from a $3 mimosa, so no complaints there. Overall, wouldn't make a return trip here, but the manager did seem friendly in our brief interaction. I love the atmosphere in this place. The seasonally flavored mimosas were a hit and between brunch, lunch and dinner menu it was really hard to decide. So many great choices to choose from. Had large group of friends try various dishes and all of it was amazing. Price is very reasonable considering the quality and with large serving sizes. Let me give you the rundown.... Pros: Food is pretty good. Our server, Derrick, had a very very good attitude in the midst of chaos. I noticed the manager was trying to be as attentive as possible. Cons: We had a reservation for 7p, arrived and checked in at 6:52, we were seated at 7:20ish. The main hostess has a terrible attitude! We walked in and there was no social distancing and literally nowhere to stand. I stood next to the hostess desk and was waiting for space for my partner to be able to check us in. She asked in an exasperated voice, "can I help you?" Now I could have easily matched her attitude but chose to stay quiet and bite my tongue because my venom is much more lethal. Anyway, my partner got us checked in and we had to stand and wait for an appropriately social distanced space to sit and wait until our name was called. I watched the hostesses trying to work things out and the main hostess was rude to everyone who came in. A few people expressed disappointment with having to wait 30 mins before being seated even though they had reservations. Moving on, we had to walk through a maze of unsocially distanced tables that were packed to get to ours. They were operating at full capacity by the way. We should have probably left as soon as we walked in, so I will accept blame for not helping myself escape a terrible experience. Good luck to all that go during this pandemic. read more
