Tried this place for the first time and I left full and satisfied. I went with friends on a Thursday night around 8pm. Decent sized place with bar and plenty of table seating. I'm never fond of when restaurants have a single stall bathroom as opposed to one with multiple stalls, but it was clean so I lived to pee another day. Happy hour is 12 - 9:30pm daily, so there is plenty of time to get in on the 50% off action. We got 6 rolls (6-8 pieces each) and a draft beer for $30. Not too shabby. Sushi tasted good and didn't make me sick so two thumbs up for that. If you're wondering, "sounds pretty legit why not 5 stars?" there, of course, were some cons. Typically like to do all-you-can-eat when I get sushi (I like to try to beat the house and make the most of my money) but they don't offer it here. I can't complain too much when the sushi is on average $4 a roll. You still get your money's worth. The service was really the downfall of this place. While it wasn't atrocious, our waitress did go home half way through our meal and didn't say a word. Not the most attentive either as we had to call servers over a anytime we needed something. My husband and I enjoyed an impromptu dinner here. Not expecting much, we were pleasantly surprised. We ordered tuna and yellow tail sashimi, sea urchin and sweet shrimp sushi, a roll from the 1/2 off menu, and a dinner combo that came with a rainbow roll, salad, and miso soup. Everything was delicious,fresh, and not fishy at all. Customer service was ok. I think the staff are pretty green and aren't familiar with their menu items. But they were friendly and quick to ask the sushi chefs to clarify items on the menu. I think it would be helpful if their menu listed the ingredients of each roll because I avoided ordering those, and stuck with a rainbow roll since I knew what was on it. Cute decor and location. Pretty good for a stumble-upon find. My friends and I were attracted by the large HAPPY HOUR 12pm-9pm sign out front. Little did we know that the the 50% off only applied to basic rolls and not the specialty ones. Great price for some rolls. I had two rolls -- Baked Salmon Roll (imitation crab, baked salmon, fish roe, avocado) and the Hot Night Roll (spicy tuna, shrimp tempura). The specialty rolls were great and the fish was very fresh. The only thing I have to say about this place is sometimes when they first open in the morning or when they are getting ready to close at night the quality of the service decreases drastically because you can tell that they're either not ready for you to come in and order or they won't service well at the end of the night because they're trying to close I understand because I am in the food business but I have to mention it. Finally getting around to writing about this place. I have to say that the one thing that got my interested was the fact that the restaurant has a 50% off basic rolls and nigiri. I haven't tried the nigiri but the rolls usually average to to be $4-$5. That's a pretty amazing price for decent sushi. My girlfriend and I usually order the baked salmon and baked white fish roll along with a 3rd roll that's usually decided on by our mood. I would say that with the price and the quality, it's a pretty good place to eat at for a quick sushi fix. Out of 5 points, I rate their service a 2. They do not have anyone greeting new customers at the door, often leaving customers standing around confused. I went last time with my friends for the 1st time ever and thought the place wasn't too bad and figured I would keep coming back because they had really cheap prices that was fair to what quality they had to offer for sushi. Last time I ordered 2 cut rolls of salmon and yellowtail which came with 8 pieces which was pretty good. This time I went to buy an order of spicy tuna, yellow tail, and salmon to go. I always check my order before leaving to make sure they did it right, and when I did I noticed they gave me 3 less slices for the salmon and yellowtail. I asked why they gave a total of 6 pieces less than last time and as I quote the guy that told me this. "Oh it's because the seaweed is on the outside and that's why we give 6... I mean 5 rolls instead of the rolls that have rice on the outside like your spicy tuna, but the price is still the same." As if that is a merit. I left but then decided to call to make a complaint and the same guy I talked to earlier answered the phone and refused to let me speak to the owner and then proceeded to hang up on me. So long story short they gave me less, charged me the same price, mashed my fish in the rolls and got wasabi on some of my rolls. I know this is an extremely 1st world sounding complaint but, got damn was I annoyed with how they treated me. I'm going to go back and get my refund after I finish this review and go back to the one sushi place I haven't gotten screwed over by which is good choice sushi. We received a "grand opening" flyer in the mail and decided to check it out. I think this place is going to do very well. We ordered 6 different sushi rolls, vegetable tempura, and 2 bowls of miso soup. We never did get our miso, but we had so much other food I'm not sure I could have eaten it anyway. The place was pretty crowded for 5pm on a random weekday. The food came out VERY quickly and was delicious. The servers left us in what I like to call "comfortable neglect" mode - we had everything we needed and they didn't breathe down our necks the whole meal. We did have to wait a little longer for the check than I liked, but that's really my only complaint. I can definitely see coming back! Oh, and as for kids - there's no specific kids menu, and I only saw 2 highchairs total for the whole restaurant. It's not child-UNFRIENDLY, but at the same time probably not an ideal for children. It pains me to update my review for TruSushi. I have fully taking into consideration that Covid may have impacted them but they have the exact same number of workers as they always have. The customer service is here is absolutely awful. Anytime you ask for anything the workers act like you are burdening them with the most difficult task of their life! They are very stingy with their spicy Mayo and Sriracha. I am basing my review on the past 3 times that I have been here. It seems like their service and food just progressively got worse. This last time was the last straw. My friends and are all very polite to servers because we understand how it is and have worked in the restaurant industry for years. We spent $98.00 at Tru Sushi this last time and had to ask for condiments three different times, while our sushi just sat there. The California tempura roll was very mushy and not crispy at all. When we asked the server she said that's how they've always been. No, they haven't. I ordered a Miami Vice roll which has seared salmon and eel sauce. They must have forgotten what searing and eel sauce were because I didn't get either. They forgot one of my friend's order completely. After the lady came back with the sheet and we had to sit there like detectives counting the white containers that they bring the sushi out in now and comparing them to what we ordered, she realized she was wrong and rudely said "Okay" and walked away. Mind you at this point we were all pretty much done eating. We figured she would remove the roll and bring us our tab. Instead she brought our tab and the roll 15 minutes later. I know that Tru Sushi has always had awful customer service but this was the last star. If anyone knows a good sushi place please let me know. Avoid this place. read more

The SALMON SASHIMI was seriously subpar tonight. It didn't even look right. Normally it has a smoother, sleeker look with more of a glossy appearance. I have eaten at TruSushi before and service and food were good. Today's experience was totally different. My mother who uses a walker, wanted Sushi. First thought was to go to TruSushi, nice day patio, so easy for her. Unfortunately, we didn't even get a chance to eat the food at TruSushi. We were turned away - not offered to be on a wait list, or time until we could be sat. We were told too busy, busy. no service. There were people sitting and eating outside in the fenced patio and a couple sitting in the front sidewalk area. I asked for a manager - and no management working at 2pm in the afternoon. Later I stopped by the restaurant when I knew management - the owner - would be there - explain what happened. She apologized said very busy today and understaffed. She did offer for us to come back for a free meal. Not sure if that can make up for my mother not feeling welcome. I don't know if the owner truly understood the magnitude of what occurred, and how my mother totally felt unwelcome. I hope they use this as a learning experience. I loved this place. When we went in for date night we were shocked at the prices and were not sure what kind of rolls we would get but they were fantastic. We were seated pretty quickly at the sushi bar and were immediately handed the order sheet which I filled out quickly, handed up to the sushi chef and within 10 minutes maybe we had our first two rolls. The sake was good and YES, they seem like they are rushing around but that is just their personalities. They are hustling to serve everyone. The price is the only thing that this place has going for it. I ordered a mixed Soju drink and the waiter gave the "Oh crap, I don't know how to make this" look and I got nervous. It showed because the drink was horrible. We ordered our sushi and the wait was not long at all. When it came out, it was presented very nicely. I wish it tasted as good as it looked. The sushi did not taste fresh at all. The fish had that sogy bite to it, not that snap you get from fresh fish. The calamari tempura was very sogy as well. I'm giving them 3 stars mainly because of the price. Happy Hour puts their house rolls and sashimi at 50% off and it runs from 12 pm-9pm. Oh and we got green tea ice cream for dessert free of charge. The only issue I have is that this used to be my favorite place about a year ago and I feel like maybe the quality has changed.
