I've been to Tumbler 22 before and really enjoy their food--especially the fried chicken and collard greens--but this visit tonight (3/20/26 around 8pm) was extremely disappointing due to the service. I sat at the bar and was greeted with water, but after that, everything went downhill. I waited an unusually long time just to have my order taken, and the bartender never even asked what I wanted to eat. I ordered an Old Fashioned and then sat there watching other guests who came in well after me get acknowledged, have their orders taken, and receive their drinks before me. At one point, the bartender even told me, "I didn't forget you," yet continued serving others ahead of me. He made drinks for a couple who arrived 10-15 minutes after I did and served them first while I was still waiting. Meanwhile, my drink hadn't even been properly started. After waiting and being overlooked repeatedly, I decided to leave. I let him know not to worry about the drink and explained that others who arrived after me were already being served. This wasn't about being busy--it was about attentiveness and basic customer service. I've enjoyed the food here in the past, but this experience made me feel ignored and undervalued as a customer. I hope management takes this seriously because no customer should feel this way when dining out. read more

Sadly disappointed. I got my "go to" sandwich (korean og) and it was a "miss" today. First the sandwich was suprisingly flat (in height) and that was bcuz there was minimal cabbage slaw which meant no crunchy texture. The cabbage oieces that were present were soggy becuz it was drowning in the sauce on the chicken. First visit and I highly recommend the Cobb salad! I was really hungry so I ordered the full instead of half option and now realize the half would have been more than enough. Beautiful presentation of the salad, full of hot chicken, and served with 2 deviled eggs. I ordered the salad with the chicken bites, spicy level hot. The chicken was so perfectly flavored and fried. Lots of chicken places popping up everywhere but this one is definitely one to try. The chicken had really good flavor and the signature comeback sauce had a little kick as well. Had coleslaw and the broccoli salad as sides, the cole slaw was really tasty and creamy! I'd probably pass on the broccoli salad, expected a little more on the creamy side as well or more flavor, but that lacked in my opinion. The deviled eggs, you can choose spice level so that added a nice kick to those as well. The place was busy and clean and nice aesthetic, from all of the above perspective, definitely like 4.5 stars, the service however was more 3 stars. I think it's pretty new so can be understandable but the waitress didn't know what beers were available and there's no list at the table. When asked a question on which beer of a certain brewery was on tap she said I don't know and just stood there, somewhat expected she'd go ask but instead just said she'd give us more time. So we ended up walking up to the bar to ask about certain beers but then the bartender seemed like he couldn't be bothered, so that was somewhat disappointing considering how much we liked the food. I ordered to go and this location has a specific to go and online pick up area outdoors The parking lot is big! Entrance can seem weird but once you're in the parking lot you'll see there is two big parking lots - lots of space to park! Interior is very spacious and clean, this location is quite new. I have to give this place a rave review because from the service to the food, they won me and my party of 3 over. Had friends over to the new apt and we wanted a nice afternoon lunch (nothing fancy, but good). Found Tumble22 searching the Internet, everyone said let's try it and off we went. So engaging and walked us through the menu and and gave us her favorites. She made our lunch here so much fun and set the tone for our wonderful lunch. She is a blueprint on what waiters and waitresses should be. We enjoyed everything we ordered. From the Mac and Cheese, beans, coleslaw,greens,and French fries. You must try the Szechuan fries. I did not think I was going to be impressed by them. But the flavor profile will blow you away. Let's say the szechuan mustard sauce has a surprising kick and flavor that we love. The wasabi and cilantro flavors hit you in all the right places. I would have these ever time I come here. The Heavenly Eggs are so good too. The sandwiches are very good to. The buns are nice and soft and the chicken has 6 different heat levels to choose from starting with painless all the way up to stupid hot. I chose #4 (damn hot) which was a nice enjoyable heat that did not take me away from me enjoying my food. I had The Southern (very good), the one recommended by Maria was the Tupelo Hot Honey (amazingly good). So many flavors popping in the Tupelo, it does not disappoint. The Korean Style O.G. was another good one. The blood orange margaritas are so good. It's a well balanced frozen margarita and strong to. Don't leave without having dessert either. The Pecan Chocolate Toffee pie is a winner. The buttermilk pie is good too but have it at room temperature, I don't recommend it cold. Me, the wife, and our 1yr old came here on the way to an Astros game. Location is just outside of downtown with free on site parking, making it convenient a spot as I can think of before fighting for downtown parking. The interior is pretty par for the course for a hot chicken restaurant, I think we all know what they look like now, but it was clean and well lit. Service was quite nice, we ordered quickly after being sat immediately on a Friday evening. Server/bartender offered to put in our little ones order to come out asap and it was very thoughtful and helpful. Our order on the other hand took about 30mins to get to us. It's my only gripe with the our visit, it wasn't but maybe 50% full when we came and it took longer for us to get 2 chicken sandwiches than it would for us to get a meal at a full service restaurant. I think the reason it bothered me more than usual is because we were thinking this wouldn't be more than a 30min meal all together before a ball game. Taking as long as it did t seemed strange especially with how heavily staffed they were. The sandwich itself was quite big and the crispy texture was there without drying out the chicken. I liked how the menu heat levels were described in types of familiar peppers. Always feel silly asking places "how hot is the 'Darn Tootin' Hot level'?", and I'm sure they're tired answering. Mostly different types of sandwiches populate the menu and there's some well priced drinks and some tasty sounding desserts and pies that are there as well. Fries are a separate charge, and really didn't add much to our experience. Ultimately I think I'd come back again for a another try since the main conceit is done right. read more

This is my second time coming here, and the service is honestly so great and memorable here. The first time I went, they gave us a free sampler to try the different sides and spice levels of the chicken. This time, they let me try an off the menu spice that was one level hotter than the hottest spice on the menu. I think it was the Carolina reaper. The ambiance is also cool, and we like sitting at these booths that are in the center of the restaurant, so it feels really open. We were seated promptly, and the amazing Ary took our orders. There was a slight delay in delivery but several servers checked on us to make sure we were okay and kept us updated on our order status. I was honestly disappointed with my experience at this establishment. From the moment I walked in. The sign clearly says "wait to be seated," yet there was no hostess at the front. After waiting for a few minutes, I eventually seated myself. Unfortunately, the service only went downhill from there. The bartender showed little to no situational awareness and didn't acknowledge me for about seven minutes--only after I asked for a menu. As someone with firsthand bartending experience, I know how important it is to greet guests promptly and read the room. The restaurant wasn't even busy, there were only three people at the bar. I also had to initiate everything myself asking for a menu and placing my drink order. Typically, a bartender should engage guests, offer menus, and ask what they'd like to drink. Instead, it felt like I was an inconvenience. When the food arrived, I ordered greens and a half chicken. The portion was off--far more meat than greens in the bowl. When I brought it to the bartender's attention to see if it could be corrected, he simply walked off without responding, which was frustrating and unprofessional. To make matters worse, I was never checked on again, no follow-up, no offer for another drink, nothing. At that point, I lost any interest in staying. Your staff especially the hostess if there was one and bartender are the face of your establishment, and unfortunately, they did not represent it well at all. After the chaos and stress of Hurricane Beryl, my family and I were desperately in need of some comforting, delicious food, and Tumble 22 in Houston delivered! Thanks to my mama n laws recommendation! We waited for about 35 mins before we were sat down, which was due to them being understaffed (Hurricane) and everyone wanting to eat there as well. First off, the chicken was cooked to literal perfection--crispy on the outside and tender/juicy on the inside, with just the right amount of spice. Shoutout to whoever the cook is! We also tried the mac and cheese, which was creamy and rich (queso based, which I'm not a fan of, but this one was great. It was a lovely compliment to the spiciness of the chicken. Each bite of chicken for me was like a warm hug, exactly what we needed to lift our spirits. Especially since it was my first cooked meal post Hurricane. The collard greens were another highlight. They were perfectly seasoned, with a nice touch of heat that made it more savory. Our server Trey provided unfiltered raw customer service that resulted in much needed laughter! We had dinner at Tumble 22 after a birthday bar hop. This was my first time dining at Tumble 22. They have a small parking lot on the side of the building. We didn't have any issues finding a spot on a Saturday evening. If the lot is full, you can also park on the street. Our server was Mike, and he was very nice and accommodating. I started with a Crawford Bock for my beverage. For my meal, I ordered the 2 Piece Jumbo Tenders and added a side of collard greens for an additional $2. The greens were a little heavy on the vinegar, but still pretty good. I originally requested BBQ sauce for the tenders, but it had a bit of a spiciness to it. I ended up requesting ranch instead and it was much better. The Painless (mild) seasoning was very flavorful. I liked them better than the chicken tenders at Gus's. At the end of the meal, we asked Mike if we could get a birthday dessert for our friend. He checked with the manager, David. After a few minutes, they both walked out with a slice of toffee pecan pie with a candle in it. We then sang happy birthday to our friend before sharing the pie. A host seats you down if one happens to show up because they're also waiters. Our waitress was less please to serve us but was happy to serve ppl who knew the manager. Personally, I liked them, but my mom and sister did not. They had more of a sweet wasabi flavor than Szechuan pepper, but I didn't mind too much.
