I want the old Tupelo back! ! Food has declined. Used to be one of the best in Whitefish. Now is kinda middle of the pack. The shrimp and grits used to be great. Now it's a soupy mess with plastic shrimp. Shrimp that is pumped with tripolyphosphate. I had the Pork Chop. It was dry, tough and not really hot. I would have sent it back but our server never came back to check on us after we received our entrees. He did ask after we were done. I told him our issue with my meal. I didn't request to have any compensation but he went to the manager and they took it off the bill. Kudos to them for trying to make it right. The Apple and fig salad tasted okay but was mostly missing salad greens. Funny because salad greens is the first item in the menu description. The new decor is kinda cool and sterile. Our flight arrived late and we needed to scramble for food past 9pm on a weeknight. Thankfully my wife wandered into Tupelo at 9:20 when they closed at 9:30. They took us no problem. We got to enjoy the end of a live music show. Wife ordered the gumbo, myself the fried chicken, and myself the bison. All was exceptional. No shortcuts at that late an hour. This is tough to rate. The meal was OUTSTANDING. The service was very poor from the beginning we checked in with the hostess. We arrived 5 mins before our reservation and was asked to be seated for a few mins. Meanwhile, other couples with the same reservation time walked in and was seated right away. When I finally asked after waiting for 15 minutes, I was told they had forgotten about us - we were sitting right in front of the check-in station! After being seated, we waited 20 mins for our drink order, 40 mins for our appetizer, and another 30 minutes for our entree. They forgot about our salad order and when the entree arrived, we told them to cancel it. They did give us a free dessert for the service error. Regarding the food, the fried green tomatoes topped with a generous portion of crab was scrumptious. My salmon entree was cooked to perfection. And the flourless chocolate cake - rich and decadent to satisfy the most discriminating chocolate connoisseur. After an extremely long day at glacier we were wanted to get some food for a very nice restaurant and we were met with poor service. Upon asking for an order to go I was told that the kitchen said "no thank you." I'm not sure what that meant. Then promptly said we are too busy for to go orders then asked "would like to sit at a table?" Confused if your too busy for a to go order but want to sit me seems like a conflict. read more

Walking in from a gorgeous street to a warm greeting, the vibes were indeed up. Good lighting, lots of table options & a live easy jazz band- first impression 10/10. Server was charismatic & knowledgeable, which helped us ease into a slower paced service than we are used to. Wine was delicious as were our appetizers: the seared ahi & roasted cauliflower. We declined bread but it was offered & was complimentary. Dinner was exceptional. The lamb was cooked to a perfect medium rare, as ordered. I tried elk meatloaf with mashed potatoes, and while the meatloaf was more like a steak, it was flavorful and definitely made me want to keep coming back for more. Everything here is excellent!! We dined here twice during the past week. The ambience, food, service, and wine list are all over the top. Consistent both nights, when we were greeted by two professional and friendly hosts. A cozy atmosphere and great Cajun inspired menu that has something for everyone. Both nights, I enjoyed the best gumbo I've ever had--full of andouille sausage and chicken with a delicious spicy dark roux. Also enjoyed the shrimp and crawfish cakes (similar but better than crab cakes) topped with a spicy Cajun "slaw" on a bed of tomato sauce. Spectacular!! They elk meatloaf sliders were to die for! The Caesar salad was delicious and large enough to share. Dessert for us consisted of a warm chocolate chip cookie ala mode. The food was so good that we ate here two nights in a row. Literally everything that we got was AMAZING. My sister ordered the money moves cocktail and it was delicious. The first night we got French onion soup, gumbo, rack of lamb, shrimp and grits, wedge salad. The complimentary bread was served warm with butter and oil/balsamic. The second night we got the roasted cauliflower, spinach salad, zydeco combo, short ribs. You can not go wrong with whatever you get here. This classy restaurant in Whitefish provided my favorite meal I ate while in Montana. I ordered the steak frites, which was excellent. They have a number of great cocktails. Poor Management - A table near us decided their flip-flops were too uncomfortable during dinner ($500+ for four people). Our fellow diners also thought dining at a restaurant was an appropriate time for footsy & a foot massage. I understand people increasingly have poor manners, but the restaurant manager's nonchalant attitude towards this incident was unacceptable. The proper response would be to come by our table and apologize after I complained to the hostess, maybe offer to comp a few drinks. She did neither. Tupelo's management charges fine dining prices but considers sub-dive behavior appropriate. This experience was disappointing because we have had several good experiences. read more

We've always had a great meal at Tupelo, going back decades. Not this summer! From the unfriendly blonde hostess that was too busy to even acknowledge us when we walked in, to the distracted waiter. We should have left when the hostess gave off negative vibes, and couldn't smile if her life depended on it! We stayed. The mixed drinks from the menu were some of the tartest substitute for flavor I've had in a long time. I had the Califlower and 'Burnt Ends', as I'm vegan. My excitement at the prospect of having vegan was dashed just looking at it. A quarter of a large head of cabbage was laid across the plate. What? No flavor, just wilted cabbage. For the other portion of gas, the cauliflower steak was fairly undercooked, and the little pile of 'ends' was good. That was pretty much all I ate and the rest was thankfully taken away. For $36. When I asked for some bread, we were informed it would be $6, for what turned out to be a tiny 5" cutting of a loaf. Not warm. My friend had steak and potatoes, and both were tasteless. Overcooked. No sauce offered. It was an expensive, horrible $150 meal. It'll be a long time before we return, maybe never. It's a shame because we used to love dining there! Lovely fine dining experience in Whitefish. We were in the area for a few days to visit Glacier National Park and found this place when searching for a steakhouse. What we did not realize was the menu was more Southern inspired than Steakhouse inspired but still we were not disappointed. The service was very professional and on point. Food was tasty for the most part and prices matched the area and the fine dining experience (much cheaper than my hometown LA though) . Most of our group liked their food, especially the Bison Steak. My clams were yummy but a little on the salty side. My cocktail, The Cure, was a twisted whiskey sour but I preferred it less sweet. This has become my must stop in Whitefish. Some of the finest food in the northwest. Until this evening I thought the shrimp and grits was the best thing on the menu. Today I had the short rib, which maybe the best thing I've ever put in my mouth! Stupid good, from the mash, to the root veg to the gravy. But the rib, the rib is melt in your mouth, deliciousness. We went here for dinner when vacationing in Whitefish and it was excellent! Our server was wonderful and I loved the interior design. But the real star of the show was the food. For starters we ordered the fried green tomatoes and clams with chorizo. The tomatoes were perfectly fried and topped with crab meat. The clams were amazing and the sauce may be the best clam sauce I have ever eaten!!! We ordered the steak frites, chicken dumplings, and the short rib. The steak frites was perfectly cooked and had great fries.the short rib was wonderfully tender and had great flavor. From the start, I had the wrong expectation for this place: I'm a fan of homestyle, country cooking- don't let the "Cajun" designation of Tupelo mislead you, it's cajun-inspired fine dining. We got so lucky that although the restaurant was closing at 9pm they still allowed us to add our names to the waiting list and sat us down at about 8:45pm. Not once did we feel rushed or experience bad service. This may just be because in Miami we're used to being rejected even an hour before closing, closing time really means closing time there! So glad that wasn't the case here. We weren't awfully hungry so we opted for sharing some apps and just one entree instead. The fresh bread they bring out is delicious and so warm, hard to say no to. The Brussel sprouts were also good and fresh but maybe lacked a little flavor. The Mac & Cheese was the standout for me, very rich in flavor, absolutely steaming when it arrived at the table. The mix of the prosciutto, break crumbs and four cheese blend just really worked. Even ordering the "smaller" portion, I was unable to finish it all. The steak frites could use some work. It was cooked to the right temperate (medium) but it was just tough and a little hard to cut. Fries also gave the impression that they were cooked in old oil because of the darkness and taste, but again not bad. Really wish I would've been in the mindset to try their drinks as well, as they had some cool names and interesting concoctions but maybe next time we may it back to Whitefish! read more

You could tell she (bartender) was trying to make it look like she was attentive but she wasn't... I was uncertain what to order so she gave me time,(I was mulling over all the great looking things on the menu & she helped me with the questions I had...but in the mean while she was too busy talking to another waitress that kept bothering her to chat, the shorter male bartender that showed up, didn't seem happy to be there or maybe was not much of a people person & seemed a bit erogant... You could tell by how he talked to you, as in put out that he even had to be there. Just not the happy, caring, attentive, welcoming, & appreciative vibe you want from your waiter/waistress... I had to ask for another beer & I had to ask for salt and pepper...(I am 57yrs old & have been in the service industry my whole life from waitressing, bartending, sales rep, & merchandise sales, to now a flight attendant for 34 yrs) So service is high on my radar... I was told how great the restaurant was & was very disapointed...Abruzzo's down the street will continue to be my go to, they are awesome, the staff/bartenders are always, upbeat, attentive & happy to give you that WOW service along with very good food! I'm not sure I want to come back to Tupelo's...They have some amazing looking items on their menu...time will tell...When you have a great restaurant, you want willing & awesome help, it sets the whole experience! I love the restaurant its so cool when you walk in and in every room! I feel like maybe I just care too much about wanting people to have a great experience...& I realize that we also don't know what's going on in the staff's lives, & maybe they were having a bad day before showing up for work. I really wanted to like this place because it had so many stellar reviews online. It was also listed as the 2019 best restaurant in Whitefish, which led us to not want to eat at the other restaurants and to cook our own food for the duration of our trip. The elk meatloaf was good, but not as amazing as the reviews indicate. The chicken and dumplings were unfortunately drowning in sauce and not very appetizing. We also got the shrimp and crawfish crab cake, which was good, but again, nothing to rave about. The meal was over $90 and I felt like this was way overpriced as some reviews indicate. We are from NY and we have had plenty of wonderful meals at this price point. It actually felt like paying $90 for a meal at a chain restaurant like Applebee's. I'm so disappointed in this meal. The Safeway is down the street and we plan on cooking for the rest of the trip. read more
