This place is more fun if it's not the first stop of your night. If you're going on a weekend night, you will have to elbow your way to the bar to order and possibly even just to stand. They now have a back patio that has a lot more space, I don't know if it's new or I just never noticed it for the past several years. Cash only here. $2 Miller tall boys, yes please! I arrived at midnight on a Friday and it was pretty busy so obviously I was going to have to wait to order. Forty three minutes later, one of the bartenders finally spoke to me. I had been seated at the bar, cash visibly in hand and trying to catch someone's attention, the entire time. Multiple other patrons were served before me. This is not acceptable. After last call I went to the restroom to wash my hands and the faucet wasn't working. How long had it been broken? Nobody knows, but every dude who pissed had to walk out with dirty hands. I know it's a dive bar but "local color" isn't supposed to include lack of basic hygiene. I went out to the bar to try and get an ice cube for a field expedient hand wash (you just rub the ice over your hands and then dry them on your pants, it's no substitute for soap but I had some dried beer I wanted to get rid of) and instead of listening to my "could I just have a single ice cube, please?" the bartender just saw that I was looking his direction and assumed I wanted a glass of water. Luckily it came with ice, but still. Holy crap. Just listen for half a second. I've only had worse service once in my life. I do not recommend giving this place a shot -- there are plenty of other decent bars nearby. read more

I'm surprised I'm leaving a bad review somewhere, this is my first. As I was standing by my group (who were all sitting down at the time), I pulled down my mask to sip my drink. The bartender then shouts, "PUT YOUR "F**KING MASK ON." I calmly reply with, "I'm drinking, so is everyone else here - what am I doing differently? I don't understand the rules." That upsets her, she then proceeds to yell, "YOU HAVE TO BE SITTING DOWN WHILE YOU DRINK." I then pull up my mask, and start walking out the door. Here's where things get outrageous: I kid you not, as I'm leaving she shouts, "BYE B*TCH." Wow... you're really so upset that you're name calling? If she were to have simply said, "Hey, you need to have a mask on at all times while standing." Great. I would've happily complied and spent my night there. The Twilite Lounge is a blast from the past and offers something for everyone. Don't knock it, until you have tried the 32 oz miller highlife (sorry people, those are not 40z). It's a very cool and trendy watering hole - serving people since 1947. The crowd varies but this place is full of main street regulars, working class stiffs, and tight-pant hipsters as someone put it. I dig all the patrons and the pretty ladies that frequent here. I like their unique dress styles, revealing tattoos, and one of a kind smiles. Tip: Cash only. The PBR here is cheap and you can get a beer for $1.50. Twilite also has a couple of micro brews on tap, a pool table and a jukebox. The patio in front is always full of smokers. So if you mind cigarette smoke, chances are, you might not like this place. Personally, I really like the old school booths, the small tables and the fireplace in the back. I like that this place is kinda dark and offers a let's-get-grimy-with-it but let's keep it cool atmosphere. read more

Twilite Lounge looks sketchy, has a sketchy name, and attracts sketchy people. However, It's not too bad if you have an open mind! I've only been here once and it was an interesting experience. I think almost everybody I saw there was a regular. Nobody was really interacting with each other, they all kind of sat there in a zombie-like state. The bar area is big enough for a group of people and there is enough seating throughout the rest of the "lounge" area. Still, Twilite gives off a creepy vibe with low lighting and old furniture. Definitely don't go here if you're looking to party it up Vegas style. It's dive-y atmosphere almost resembles a biker bar. If you have a good group of people, there is some potential for a fun time. I suppose I give it 3 stars because sometimes it's nice to just kick it with some hobos. Find Me In: Jeans and a t-shirt. Dress up more than that and you're getting sketchy looks as well. read more

A dive bar without any soul, Twilite Lounge will make you feel like you've traveled back in time to play in your grandparents' dated basement, in large part because you're surrounded by children. Very, very cool children, perhaps, but my point is that the actual grandpas have left the building in search of greener pastures. For me, geriatrics aren't a necessity when drinking the night away, however, I do prefer a crowd that's a little more heterogeneous. This is a great little dive of a bar, with super cheap drinks and plenty of diverse patrons to people watch. On any given night it's packed full of hipsters, old regulars, and sports fans looking to watch a game. I come for the cheap shots of whiskey and tall PBR's and stay for the drama that is sure to unfold after people get a few drinks in them. Never a dull moment here. That patio out front is always packed with smokers, so if you mind ciggarette smoke, you should probably stay inside. Twilite has also become the unofficial after spot for the Twilight Concert series. It is literally packed on Thursday nights during the summer. The Chow Truck also comes by every Thursday during the Summer at about 11pm to feed the masses. My favorite thing about this bar is their retro photobooth. Twilite is a cute dive bar in downtown. Last night was my first visit and I must admit it is perfectly flawed. There is no glitz or glam about this place, but it is a fun place to meet up with friends for drinks, pool and chats. The bartenders are friendly and the patrons are really chill. The juke box is FREE and the drinks are sensible. Twilite has become a hot spot for hipsters so if you hate us you will hate this place. We sat out front sipping our beverages, smoked and chatted. I don't know everyone seems to be hating. I don't mind dive bars but I actually liked Twilite! it wasn't the most ghetto bar I've ever been in and the crowd seemed pretty nice! The bartenders took good care of us (once I figured out which part of the bar got the most attention.) Drinks weren't badly priced and theres pool tables, booths and a smoking section. I really enjoyed this bar. It is unlike any I've seen in my life let alone Salt Lake City. The place is full with comfort seating. They have beautiful chandlers that give the place a nice romantic vibe. Lights are very low and depending on where you chose to sit, you are for the most part secluded in your own area. Which is nice for a date or time with a friend. The seating is incredible. I sat in a really nice booth that was antique feeling. The staff was friendly and helpful. This place is right on the edge of divey, and too divey. I'd say it's a place for regulars because we felt like they knew everyone but us. Lots of people staring and some off putting personalities. The bar tender fit in with the divey attitude, not really bad but also not really friendly. Very matter of fact and that mean kinda old woman whit that you can only get in a place like that. The whole experience was hard to describe, sounds more negative then I want it to while I write it. It's cash only but the ATM is one dollar. I love this bar, probably one of my favorites in Salt Lake City. The drinks are reasonably priced (although, they only take cash but have an ATM on site). They have some pool tables and a Pac Man game. It's a pretty small bar, the whole vibe of the place reminds me of Twin Peaks. Party of 3 stopped in tonight after dinner at HSL. Tried chatting with the bartenders as it had been over 20 years since being here. One bartender with longer hair was very nice and cordial. Unfortunately, the other one, John, was entirely rude, dismissive and offensive. He accused us of being too intoxicated, continuously stated it was a cash bar (there's a very large sign indicating this and we had cash) and ultimately, was really rude. He actually served me a drink and then took it away. I'm seriously appalled and disgusted with how we were treated and I will never come back here. I've never been treated this way at a bar, even when I was in my 20's and likely actually was too intoxicated to be served. There were clearly other people there that were inebriated and willing to admit so (we talked to many outside). It felt more like we didn't fit in to the hipster vibe or whatever vibe this place is trying to attain and they didn't want our business. We previously came here during the winter, played pool and had a nice evening, but with the treatment from John, I don't ever want to come back here nor recommend it to others. Lots of people love the Pacific Northwest and dream of moving there. If you are one of those people, you will probably like this bar and disagree with this review. I am not one of those people at all. I spent six years in the Northwest, and I am pretty happy that I am no longer there. Being at Twilite gives me weird flashbacks from that era, and particularly from not-so-good nights at a dive by where I used to live. What a dump! I can let go of the shabby stools and tables, as well as the construction underway, but when your seemingly sick bartender rubbed her nose before taking your ID, turned around and proceeded to sneeze and cough while checking it, then poured you a beer without washing her hands, that's when and where I draw the line. And a pint of beer, served in a chalice, was no where near the size of a pint (trust me, I drink daily and own several glasswares of all sizes), although it was only 3$ in the afternoon. The bar is ok, but I don't know what is wrong with the bartenders. I ordered a gin and tonic, it was alright, no problem. I left a tip for the drink. Went back to order another. The bartender gave me what was obviously and vodka tonic. I told the bartender and asked if he wouldn't mind replacing it. He looked at me for 3 seconds, told me that it WAS a gin and tonic, and then walked away and refused to talk to me the rest of the night. With these kind of bartenders, who needs enemies? They will happily treat you like an idiot after charging you money. read more
