The store was clean and orderly. They provide a discount if you buy 3 or more at a time, couple bucks off per bottle. Checkout was easy. While this Twin Liquors is the closest one to me, I usually shop at that other national store due to better pricing. But when Twin has their Dollar Days sale, I'm there! Picked up a bottle of Laphroaig 10 last month for around $45, which is 10% less than I can ever find it anymore. I miss the days of $40 Laphroaig, but I shouldn't complain as it's not a huge price. Anyway, always friendly staff at Twin and they sometimes do free tasting events. I should go there more. read more

Came here for dollar days and almost everything was on sale. They have a decent wine selection too. It isn't as big as the big box liquor stores but if your shopping at H‑E‑B and need to make a liquor stop this place will do. Outside of dollar days they are more expensive but if you buy 2 hence the name twin they do give discounts on many items. As for service, yes if you look like your under 35 expect to get carded this is a popular liquor stop for the kids at UT so it's expected they will card - TABC doesn't play! read more

I just left this establishment and since it is my second bad experience I decided to leave a review. I was in once before to purchase a bottle of amaretto as a gift and the middle aged gentleman was not happy, not pleasant and aloof. Today I purchased a bottle of campari and a bottle of amaretto for my Mothers 95th birthday party. I asked about travel size and learned they did not have them in that size. The man behind the counter pointed to show where they were. I was 2 aisles over so as I got closer to him I said "Sorry which aisle is it?" He then pointed again (instead of walking the paying client to the product) and remarked "On the aisle marked Pints" I then looked and located the 2 bottles and upon making my way to the checkout counter (this man in his 30's) was facing me and there were 2 open registers on that side and instead turned his back without even a smile or saying "Ma'am I can help you over here" I then walked around the long counter to go to where he was standing. At checkout my card was declined and he said it was declined instead of asking if I would like to try it again or even would you like to use an alternate card...I said outloud that the debit card was missing and they issued me another temporary card and I was curious if they found activity on my card" He then said with the 2nd debit card "it went through" ...like he was surprised? No smile, nothing but smugness. I then left picked up my groceries and looked in the bag and there was no receipt...I returned to the store and was greeted again with no smiles and I said "I checked my bag and I was not given a receipt" No "I am sorry about that, or apologize for the inconvenience" At that point the man that had initially helped me hopped up on the counter to sit...the women helped me and she asked "what register?" I said "this one" then I said "and it was that gentleman behind you sitting on the counter that did not give me a receipt or offer me a receipt" Again no apologies for the inconvenience. I will never shop Twin Liquors again. I will drive to Specs which is further away but they greet every customer with a smile, they are very helpful (they walk you over to whatever you are looking for) which is helpful to a non drinker and they are happy employees. I remembered that my credit union had issued me that temporary card but forgot it could only be used at ATM's. Twin Liquors needs to hire employees that smile, that are willing to go that extra mile and provide exceptional customer service like their competitors or at least provide customer service training because it is sorely lacking. read more

Great selection and most of the staff I encountered was friendly or helpful. I went here 2-3 times and had a totally acceptable experience. My last trip was immensely frustrating, and I haven't been back since. I asked who I presume is the manager a completely fair question about the availability of a few bottles of bourbon that were on display. Instead of an answer, I got trolled over the course of a few minutes of me trying to figure out what the hell that dude was actually telling me. I usually don't mind sarcasm, and I can think of almost no occasions where I couldn't tell if someone was being sarcastic or not. I still don't know if he thought his snarky, deadpan non-answers make for a good experience for a customer. He just gave me a smug grin and told me the contents of the bottles weren't real, which seems unlikely given that one is sealed with wax. He then told me he didn't know "what they are", as his employee sat nearby with a perplexed look on her face which probably was similar to mine. I get that people go in asking for rare bourbon often and that it may be frustrating to him. If he had told me "those are only for special customers" or something then I wouldn't even complain. Instead, I just got his weirdo act that I guess he finds funny. I'd recommend that if you don't want people asking about bourbon, don't put it out on display amongst a bunch of other, available bottles. If you go in here and don't end up needing to ask that dude a real question then your experience should be fine. read more

Such a huge selection at this store I find it hard to imagine why I should go to any other alcohol store considering how close my they are to my home. The pricing here isn't bad either... it's pretty much run of the mill pricing. I can only comment on today's Dan Aykroyd vodkagraph event, as today was the very first time I've ever even set foot inside a Twin Liquors. Even though there's a Twin Liquors close to my house, I automatically go to Spec's. I'm not sure why that is, but it is. And even though my experience today was less than stellar, I might go back to this Twin Liquors and actually look around at stuff next Monday. I arrived at Twin Liquors at 1:45pm with my Ghostbusters tee on. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to charge up my phone the night before, and I was hoping beyond hope that the battery would last until 4pm when Aykroyd arrived. I was third in line, and the staff and the people in line with me seemed very nice. I had enough people to chit-chat with for the next two hours to keep me busy. Around 3:30pm, the staff started handing out a cocktail sample they'd made with Aykroyd's Crystal Head vodka. That was actually my second helping, as the woman behind me went over to the tasting bar and snagged us each a sample earlier. At least twelve people dressed up in full Ghostbusters costume, and I got a couple of pictures of them. I almost wore my Elwood Blues costume, but I chose not to because I figured I would have felt silly. I later regretted that decision, and you'll hear why soon. Four o'clock arrived, and here came Dan. He seemed in very good spirits, and wife Donna Dixon was with him, which I wasn't expecting. For some reason, all the Ghostbusters got to cut to the front of the line. Um, okay, I understand they did something extra special by dressing up, but I did something extra special by *showing* up early. I would not have minded that they got to cut in line if they hadn't all stood right in front of me as I was trying to take pictures of Aykroyd. I got a few, but I wasn't able to get as close as I wanted to because of the costumed royalty. And each Ghostbuster had about 15 things they wanted Aykroyd to sign, whereas the rest of us only had up to one besides the bottle, and the one thing I had was a picture a lady in line with me gave to me to keep. Once the Ghostbusters finally got out of the way and I had a clear shot of Aykroyd, my phone died, of course. So, THANKS! I was finally about to step in front of Aykroyd, when some bitch and her tot cut in front of me. I tapped the woman on the shoulder and told her the line starts "way back there." Her response? "Fuck you!" Ex-fucking-scuse me?? I only got here two-and-a-half hours early so I could get a decent place in line. You can't just walk in and play the elitist card. I mean, who the fuck do you think you are, anyway? I didn't say any of this to her, but I sure wanted to. And pay attention to that last sentence because I'm going to write it again very soon about a different woman. Bitch and spawn got their vodkagraphs and got the fuck outta the way, so I walked up and placed my picture in front of Dan. We shared a few friendly words, and after he signed my stuff he reached out his hand to shake mine. As I was reaching my hand out, I randomly got knocked out of the way by a younger bitch who blathered, "Oh Dan, it's Astragenica! I just moved here, and I HAD to come say hiii-eeee!!!!!" Ex-fucking-scuse me?? I only got here two-and-a-half hours early so I could get a decent place in line. You can't just walk in and play the elitist card. I mean, who the fuck do you think you are, anyway, Astragenital?!? I didn't say any of this to her, but I sure wanted to. (See, I told you I'd go there again. But can you blame me??) I was determined to get a handshake, so I waited until Astragenital was done fawning all over Aykroyd, despite the Twin Liquor employees telling me to move along. No, I'm not going anywhere until I get a fucking handshake from one of my favorite fucking actors. I have behaved myself and not kicked asses when asses deserved to be kicked, and none of you Twin Liquor fucks kicked asses to the back of the line when you should have, so get off my case. I finally got my handshake, and I high-tailed it to the register so I could pay and get the fuck out of dodge before someone ELSE treated me like shit. So my big problem with Twin Liquors is that they didn't have ANY security, and they certainly should have. While I was waiting to pay at the register, I watched several people jump line in front of the people who were originally behind me. These line-jumpers came to the front area to "get pictures", and they then tried to *sneak* in line without anybody noticing. So, Twin Liquors? Next time you have a celebrity bottle-signing event, you NEED TO HIRE SECURITY. It's not fair that some of us stood in line patiently for more than two hours, yet people who got there late decided they had the right to be in line ahead of us. NOT COOL. My boyfriend and me that are of age just bought a pan at HEB next door make spicy vodka pasta and walked into liquor store with the pan and immediately asked for one unflavored vodka shooter. Twin Liquors is an interesting story. The full-service liquor store (wine, liquor, tobacco) began in Austin with one shop and today has 46 stores within a 65-mile radius. So they're a locally owned....chain. The Twin Liquors family has stores with other names - Hill Country Wine & Spirits, Reuben's, Dan's, but they're all the same alcohol-educated people. I actually think it's kind of cool that they've built up such an empire, but have stayed loyal to Central Texas. Especially with such stiff competition from HEB and Randall's (it's hard to beat $5.99 for a bottle of vino). As for this location on 41st in the Hancock Shopping Center, it's a good one. An extensive selection of wine and liquors, plus some fun accessories and those little liquor-filled chocolates that are such a joy during the holidays. Slightly higher priced than your big-name grocery store, but they run specials all the time. Seriously, check out the advertisements posted on the store window and you'll be convinced to head inside for good deals on reputable labels. Lot parking. Friendly staff. This place is huge! It has a giant selection of wines that I have yet to even check out. Ill update this when I do. Their liquor variety also seems daunting. If you have something in mind, chances are they have it. If you don't have anything in mind, then I'm positive you will find something to your liking. More than likely more just one something. I like that they give you discounts for buying 2 of something. Perfect for parties where you'll need a couple of various types of liquor. I've been here quite a few times as this is in my neighborhood and have always encountered pleasant employees. Rich, however, was incredibly rude today. I had simply been presenting my ID as other employees were not touching them during my past visits during COVID, so he was annoyed that I didn't hand it over at first. Since the customer before me paid in cash, I realized it was okay for me to do so as well. He seemed irritated and said card was preferable and, just as I was about to switch my payment method, he said, "never mind - just forget it." I honestly don't like to leave poor reviews because I, myself, work in retail - but this was him being rude just to be rude. Capsule review: Twin Liquors at Hancock Center has a nice selection and possibly Austin's best liquor sale. It can't quite compete with the amazing Spec's, but is still a great neighborhood resource. Full review below. TLHC is huge, a convenient fact that allows it to have separate sections for spirits, wine (including a nice array of very high-end selections and a 15% discount on six bottles or more), beer, and even cigars. There are even a couple of rooms for classes and tastings, although I've never partaken. You can easily spend 30 minutes just browsing the place. The giant selection means slow turnover on some items, which in turn means that there are clearance barrels scattered throughout the store. It's hard to tell what kind of a deal you're getting, though, as the original prices aren't marked. Pricing, in fact, is where the trouble comes into the Twin Liquors Paradise: there are "price-on-two" specials that offer a "discount" that brings the price-per-bottle in line with what it might already have been at competing stores. So buyer beware on that. That is, of course, unless you go for the famous wholesale-plus-a-dollar sales that occur about twice a year. It's the best sale ever, during which that $70 bottle of bourbon that you couldn't justify becomes $50, which you can talk yourself into. The missus and I tend to get our annual stock during these, which makes me forget all about the regular prices. Also: last time I was in for this special, the manager was nice enough to sell me the best cheap whiskey (Very Old Barton) that I've ever had. So customer service points for sacrificing potential profit to do your patron a favor. So I still prefer Spec's on Airport for the constant beer deals, even bigger selection, and better access to small-batch, limited-release whiskey. But in a world in which Spec's didn't exist, this Twin Liquors and I could totally be besties: it's eclectic, clean, well-organized, and has what you need. Pro tip: get on their mailing list and get there for that amazing sale. read more

I've never been to this store bc I stay south,I do prefer twins over any other liquor store. So I happened to be up north so I thought I'd come to the store at the Hancock center,the store is very nice,but Ken your cashier wasn't too nice,maybe he was having a bad day(morning) but he wasn't too friendly. Wow. My boyfriend and I attended a massive wine tasting here this past Saturday, the vendors were great, the wine was very nice. We heard that later that day they were tasting a St. Arnold's beer and so we returned, barely catching the vendor before he left. He had two half opened beers left and poured us one. We drank it and chatted with him. He left and we thought we would try the remaining bit of the other beer. My boyfriend had just taken a sip when a very angry man ( I'm assuming the owner or manager) screamed at us to "Get the hell Out of his store!" He said that what we were doing was illegal, which neither one of us knew. He then screamed at us, calling my boyfriend a "F#%$$ Ass*`&&*" and cussed a bit more. There were some more words uttered that I can't probably even bleep out successfully, but you get my drift. Wow. For one thing neither one of us knew that taking a sip out of an already open beer was illegal. And even if it was, damn, there are so many better ways to go about getting someone to realize that fact. I have never been cursed out of a store before. Sorry twin liquors, you brought me in with the wine tasting and drove me faaaaaaaaar away with the profanity. Tell that manager to calm down. First of all, and this was really surprising to me, but as giant liquor stores go, this massive celebration of wine, liquor, beer and more said one thing to me that I didn't expect to hear straight away: Spec's has company. In terms of size, while this locale may not be directly as yard for yard gigantic as the airport-sized monstrosity that is Spec's they have *tons* of room in here. The place is well appointed, looks to have great selections, and as I was in for a tasting, a cozy tasting area as well. It's a smart setup. Rows and rows and rows of wine, a dandy beer wall, a couple of meeting/presentation and or a private dining rooms, Twin's done a smart job of growing into a major presence around North Central Austin. They've been more aggressive with interesting local programming of late (bringing Danny DeVito in for a tasting was especially noteworthy), and the service I got here at least was plenty personable. I went there Saturday around noon for a wine tasting. I had a wonderful time tasting 20 wines. The staff was courteous and kind. I perused the shelves and loved the Whiskey/scotch selections. I returned at 6:50 p.m. for a St. Arnold's tasting. The person from St. Arnold's was on his way out the door. But a true gentleman, he opened the cooler and poured drinks for me and my girl. On his way out, he left an open bottle on the table because he had to run. It was for the St. Arnold's Lawnmower which we didn't try. I poured the remainder of the bottle for me and my girlfriend, when I heard the manager shouting, "You can't do that." The manager ran over angrily and tried to force the drink from me. He then went into a profanity-laced tirade, while ordering me to leave his store. I can understand TABC rules and regulations. That however does not justify rudeness. I gave two stars because of the wine servers and the gentleman from St. Arnold's. With other wine and spirits shops throughout Austin, I won't be going here with my dollars. read more

This was my first foray into the legendary Twin Liquors Hancock. I was lured there by a yelp event but stayed for the wine tasting. Jazz band (complete with large black man in dreadlocks and funny twitchy asian lady on drums) and free friday wine tastings make this my new fave. HUGE selection, wll organized, clean, and I almost prefer it to the Sam's warehouse that is Specs. Final day of a 5 year long college career, so it was a day that needed some celebration supplies. Thankfully they took over the Old Navy and expanded in every department, especially the wine and beer selection. As is the case you usually end up gettin' wrangled by some special deal and pay a little more than you wanted but get about two times what you would have gotten( .750 L of Gin = 13.99 1.75L of same Gin = 14.99). Everyone was very helpful in helping me find just what I needed, and if they didn't have it they quickly directed my thirsty self in a good direction. When we came home from vacationing in Hawaii, I was on a mission to find Long board beer by Kona Brewing Company. We fell in love with it (since it is on tap all over the island) and wanted to enjoy the beer back in Austin. I used twitter to ask Twin Liquors about the beer, and they responded that they had it in most stores and if there was a store that was close to me that didn't have it; they would be able to order it. SWEET! I did find the beer at a couple other establishments, but Twin Liquors was the cheapest. They have a great selection of wine, beer and liquors and they are my go to place when I need to restock. I LOVE their Buy Two and Save promotions... sure I get way more alcohol than we need but it's not like it will go bad before we can drink it. The employees I have dealt with are friendly and can usually give you helpful information on the wines that they sell. I have been to wine tastings and found they are organized and serve mostly great tasting wines. Joelle (uneven bangs, dark hair, tattoos) threatened to beat my ass after antagonizing me multiple times before I defended myself. If I could give it 0 stars I would. I went in without the intentions of buying anything. My girlfriend picked up some bourbon though for a recipe we were making. We were asked for both of our IDs. I hadn't been asked for my ID before when I wasn't buying anything so I got a little frustrated because they refused to sell it to my girlfriend (who is obviously younger looking than me). The assistant manager was telling me it's Texas law, but I wasn't too open to hearing it because of my frustration (bad on my part). As the assistant manager was speaking to me, the cashier tried to get the next guests attention without success. She then proceeded to yell to him. I was not talking to her or interacting with her at any point of my conversation yet she decided to yell at me on my way out the door. This is a woman with dark hair and uneven straight across bangs with a lot of tattoos. I'm only bringing these up because I don't have her name, and I am in the process of filing a complaint with the owner. I was frustrated, but I had intentions of going home to get my wallet and returning to purchase it. As I was waiting, a guest approached me and made me aware that the same lady who yelled at me was talking about me to him and around other guests. I was already mad because I did not speak to her at any point, but she proceeded to antagonize me. I went up there with every intention to go off, but the assistant manager defused the situation nicely. I made aware to her that I knew what was said, and I didn't appreciate it especially since I wasn't talking to the lady. I also apologized for my attitude earlier. As I was finishing up my purchase, the same lady returned and said "The one who couldn't get her stuff earlier without the ID" and make smug faces. I was infuriated because I did nothing to this lady. As I was leaving I told her I did not like her snarky comments and her ugly faces. She proceeded to yell at me again saying excuse me and threatened to beat my ass. The lady's name was Joelle (I finally got it off the receipt). Again, I had not spoke to this lady until this time. I was told that the managers would be made aware of the situation but nothing has happened yet. She did all of this in front of other guests. I will never return and I suggest that others take into consideration of this experience. When is it ever okay to threaten to beat someone's ass after you antagonized them multiple times before they reacted. read more

I'm not a big alcohol drinker. Which means that I'm not much of a wine drinker. Which makes it an even bigger problem when we get invited to a dinner party and I try to bring the wine. I used to go to the wine section of Randall's but didn't feel comfortable with the help that I got there. I've seen the reviews for Specs but the one by S. Brodie looks like an Academy for alcoholics. Big and Cheap. Maybe good, but I need help when I'm looking for a nice wine-as-a-gift. The reason that I give Twin Liquors five stars is that they always take the time to help me, don't make me feel like a dolt (although there is a huge amount of homer simpson in me), and I've yet to disappoint a host/hostess with a Twin Liquors recommendation. Several reasons to support them; 1) they have multiple locations in Austin, 2) they have nice people in the stores, and 3) they are Austin based. I really like this place. It's conveniently located off Red River and 41st next to the Petco and the HEB. I will have to say its one of the cleanest, nicest liquor stores I have been in. This place has a HUGE selection of wines, a good assortment of craft beers, the biggest tequila shelf I have beheld, a humidor for those cigar lovers, and separate rooms for beer, wine and various spirit tasting classes. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. I really like their deals for wines 15% off if you buy six bottles, which totally enticed me to load up since I know those bottles will probably be empty buy the end of the month. read more

Let me start with this. This is one big ass liquor store. They have an enormous selection of spirits, wine, fine wines and cigars. While my budget doesnt allow me to drop $250 on a bottle of wine, theyve got it if you want it. Cant really attest to the cigar freshness, but the humidor is big and sexy like every thing else. There are constantly deals on most things in the store, and the inventory is always excellent. I was in the liquor and wine business for over 5 years and I think most everything in the store is priced fairly. I always know what Im after when I go in (Weller 12 year Bourbon most times. Get it, drink it, love it), so the only interaction I have with the staff is at checkout. Every one is always nice and engaging.
