Absolutely delicious Indonesian food! I wish I lived closer, then I could come by every day! Service is always friendly, but due to Covid, I've been ordering takeout. I always get the beef kwetiau and my boyfriend gets the spicy whole fish. The kwetiau is perfectly seasoned with yummy chewy noodles. My very first time trying out Indonesian food. It was a great experience. Recommend getting there early before noon time because that place get packed and quite noisy. It's so cute how they have a display of all kind of snacks that you can purchase from Indonesia. The appetizer snacks were my absolute favorite. Full of flavor and meaty tenderness, the combination warmed our bodies as the weather outside was particularly chilly. Oxtail soup included fried potatoes, carrots, and bits of tomatoes. Surprisingly, the soup wasn't greasy and had an umami level of depth. Every bit of the nasi padang -- beef rendang, curry coated jackfruit, a deep fried boil egg dredged in chili sauce, and rice -- was absolutely five star worthy. My only critique is that the portions were a bit on the tinier side. Nonetheless, it was enough to leave my dad and I thoroughly stuffed. Staff were nice and checked on us from time to time. I just moved to Austin and am so happy that I found an Indonesian restaurant here. I grew up in Indonesia and can only go there every year so having a good Indonesian food option in the city is awesome. The menu is pretty limited, however I enjoyed everything I had so far. The nasi padang is really solid (I've eaten it 5 times within a month - ok I'm crazy) and the bakmi ayam is hearty and delicious. The gado-gado is a great option for vegetarians, altho I wish it includes some tempeh goreng like how it's usually served back in Indonesia. I was craving Padang cuisine that I had in Jakarta and Yelp led me here. They have a small Indonesian menu from which we ordered Nasi Padang with beef rendang (slow-cooked meat in coconut milk and spices). The food did not disappoint. Heard from a friend that this place had really good Chinese food, but when we arrived the waitress gave us two menus; one for Chinese food and one for Indonesian specialties. We decided to try the Indonesian food because she seemed very excited to recommend dishes. We were pleasantly surprised to start the night with crisp wonton wrapper and sweet and sour dip as a free appetizer. I chose a fried chicken entree and my husband chose a fried fish dish which the waitress said was her favorite thing on the menu. Both came with rice and soup. The chicken was extremely fragrant and though the breading was different from the fried chicken you'd usually expect it was delicious and juicy on the inside! This was my first time trying Indonesian food and it is honestly great. It taste like a mixture between Indian/Thai spices and flavors. This restaurant has a all day menu and other varying menus based on the days. Most of what I got was from the Tuesday menu. I tried the dumpling soup and it was absolutely delicious. The roasted chicken plate I got came with rice, cucumber, and fish cakes. The whole plate was delightful, especially the roasted chicken. I also tried the sambal telur, which is fried boiled eggs. My favorite would be the Nasi Padang (rice with spicy egg, veg curry and your option of either chicken curry or beef rendang). It was every bit delicious, even the small dollop of sambal (chilli sauce) they put on the plate was great! Their pempek (fishcake in vinegar) was delish, but portion wise it may not make you full. I've been meaning to write a review in here and things have gotten in the way but today is the day! One of my favorite restaurants and so close to my apartment, but this is not the main reason I like to order from them. 1- The portions are always great and plenty even when ordering online. 2- Attention to detail is a must for me and they have never missed out on anything. Well, just one time out of the many orders I've placed, but it was also when all the craziness with Covid-19 had started. Besides this one time I've never had anything to complain about. 3- The food is delicious! My favorite recommendations are the wonton soup, not too salty, and wontons so yummy. Another favorite is their Lo Mein, I order mine with shrimp and it comes with plenty of them (my mouth is watering already! Lol!). Don't forget the appetizers! Their crab puffs are a must, so delicious! Their Kwetiau is also another yummy dish! 4- Last but not least is their customer service. Re-reviewing and re-affirming the initial five stars from years ago. While the biggest casualty of inflation may be that their lunch specials have gone up a good few bucks, it's still more than worth it. Ever single time I come in I know exactly what to expect: fast, kind, and attentive service, good speed with which the food comes out, and quality in which it's always piping hot to the point that I tend to need to wait a minute or two before digging in and covered with a great quantity of sauce and food. This spot has been owned and operated by the same family/group of people since it's beginning and it's great to see them doing well and managing to weather the COVID craziness and make it out the other side. My ordering recommendation for anyone here is their beef with garlic sauce & wonton or eggdrop soup. Brought me back to my happiest days of when I lived in Ubud, Bali. I close my eyes and can imagine pulling over on my motorbike to buy lunch from a sweet Balinese woman. Pretty disappointed in my Uber Eats delivery today. This food was bland. No real flavor. I would not say it was overly salty (which I appreciate) which can be an issue for some Chinese restaurants. But the dishes I had were boring and the same flavor despite clear supposed differences. And the worst part was this "sauce" tasted almost exactly the same as the scallops with black bean sauce. Again - google Scallops with blackbean sauce. LOOK AT ALL THOSE BLACK... BEANS! And nope. Not a single black bean to be found in my black bean sauce. Brown. Veggies. Bland. I would like to say the cashew chicken was ok, but it was bland too. And brown. Same brown sauce on everything. Anyway, if you are in a pinch this food will fill a gap. If you have ever eaten food outside the Texas state line, this place will disappoint. Major tip to the owners? If the menu item has the ingredient in the name - actually put that ingredient in the dish. Simple stuff. If it says "black bean" I expect to see at least one black bean. Not hard. NW Austin is blessed to have Twin Panda! I love that I can get Indonesian food in a place so close to the suburbs. It seems like a very rare cuisine to find, even when I was in Houston, which is already a great epicenter for quality restaurants of diverse cuisines, especially those of the Asian variety. I came for my first visit around 7 pm, about two hours before closing. Several cars were coming and going in its small but sufficient parking lot. A hard working young man was frequently running in and out of the shop in the evening summer heat as he delivered orders to cars. After much contemplation on the menu, I attempted to call Twin Panda to order since there was a sign that clearly said you could only order online or call, but the phone was busy. This seems to me like it is a very small and busy restaurant! After several minutes, he saw me waiting to order and promised earnestly that he would return to take my order as soon as he finished curbside-delivering the next order. Not wanting to trouble him, I gestured to their sign and said I could simply order online. After he confirmed that I wanted Indonesian food, he informed me that the Indonesian menu was in fact, not available to order online. This is an important fact to know upfront! As I was new to trying Indonesian cuisine, the server helped me choose a dish. His personal favorite was the ayam penyet, but he noted that many people order soto betawi. Gado gado was also popular, but it doesn't have meat, he said. Intrigued by the inclusion of turmeric in ayam penyet, I decided to go forward with that. Wait time was about 20 minutes. I examined the menus further as I waited and found that there were also Indonesian groceries being sold here! Pretty neat. The food itself was well packaged and arranged and smelled delicious. It was also a pretty good portion for the money. I couldn't finish it all by myself! And the crunchy texture of ayan penyet was delightful, the flavor clean and delicious without being overwhelming. You can pour the crumbs over the rice and can dip anything into the sweet chili sauce. All in all, I had a great experience with Twin Panda and will definitely try it again. This review is mostly for items on the Indonesian menu. Yes, there are two menus, and you may need to ask for the Indonesian one when seated. Food: Pork egg rolls are legit. One per order, so order accordingly. Mie Tek Tek Goreng is a fried noodle, akin to the chow mein you'll find in Chinese American restaurants, but this is SO much better. Nasi Padang with beef rendang (dry beef curry), or gulai chicken (chicken curry) is a must. It's served on white rice with an artichoke and green bean curry chutney, a hard boiled egg with a spicy sauce, and some sliced cucumbers. On occasion they'll have specials, like the chicken satay. Service: We mostly get meals to go, and at peak times, you may need to keep calling to get through to order. I believe they have online ordering too, and delivery to nearby areas, but I've not given that a go. Otherwise, staff are friendly and the wait is usually about 20 minutes for a to-go order called in. Cost: Two pork egg rolls, two nasi padangs, one mie tek tek with chicken ran us $39 after tax. Tucked away from central Austin is Twin Panda. They serve a regular Chinese menu, but what stands out is their daily selection of Indonesian food that is on a separate menu. We started with the Pempek-A deep fried fish cake in a vinegar sauce on top of Delicious noodles. Tasty and Spicy! We also enjoyed: the Soto Betawi a coconut soup with potato and tomato popular in Jakarta; the Ayam Kalasan-baked marinated chicken served over steam rice was delicious; and the Nasi Padang-An dish of Rendang Beef with vegetables, egg, cucumber on steamed rice. Just ordered take out from here and it was really good! They had my favorite salt and pepper chicken. The meat was so delicious not greasy or oily or full of batter. The onions and jalapeños were sautéed perfectly to give it such a great flavor. My family of 8 came here during our visit to Austin and loved the food! We're from LA and have tried a handful of Indonesian restaurants there, but felt like some of the dishes here were far better. We only ordered from the Indonesian menu. My personal favorites were the Ayam Kalasan, which was sweet and tender, and the Nasi Padang, which is exactly how beef rendang should taste. I wasn't a huge fan of the Ikan Masak Cabe because it was more of a sweet tangy sauce, rather than a spicy sambal taste. Everyone else enjoyed the bihun goreng, pempek, sup buntut, mie tek tek.
