I ordered my food & drinks at 2:53 PM through Yelp, with an estimate of 3:06-3:15 PM to pick up when it's ready. Okay, no problem, I'll just wait in the car until I get notified. Walked in at 3:10 ish because I got notified that it is NOW READY TO PICK UP since 3:09. Surprisingly on a Monday, they're packed with customers. I told the lady to pick up for Angelina from GrubHub/Yelp. Didn't even bother looking at the orders ready at the table, told me to wait while she proceeds to take 5 more parties of walk-in orders, stared at me while packing orders, repeat. 3:20 PM ish came by, was told that I need to wait "a little bit longer." To keep me busy with waiting, I was watching their employees rush to make drinks, splattering milk/tea everywhere on the counter, slamming their fridge(s), loud cling clanks, & ignoring customers at the pick-up area. A delivery lady (like a Postmates worker) that has been there waiting before me finally received her order of 2 drinks instead of 3. The employee kept arguing that in their system only shows 2. I understand that systems mess up, but they were talking back & forth over the same exact thing for a good 5 minutes. I don't understand that if you're trying your best to get all the drinks ready & out, you're just standing there stalling to argue when you can just make the drink, probably even able to finish 5-10 more drinks with that 5 minutes. She ended up making the drink for the customer. However, the lady's customer canceled the 3rd drink & told them that 2 drinks is fine (probably also because she's been waiting for however long). The 2 workers got pissed & were talking mad-disrespect in Cantonese. The lady wanted to confirm that since they want 2 drinks, they should not be charged for the 3rd one. One of the employees (that was splattering drinks everywhere) told the other employee to "ignore her" in Cantonese. To clarify, both of the workers speak well English but used Cantonese as a language barrier for her to not understand. That is very rude & definitely not what you're getting paid for to work there. What happened to customer service? Your job as an employee is to make sure customers are (at least somewhat) satisfied so they can come back again. However, forgetting that customer service is one of your priorities when working gives off the vibe that you hate your job & just because you probably have a bad day to give someone else a bad day. Who would want to come back to this place again with this experience? Anyways, by this time it is already about 3:35 PM, I raised my voice a bit because of the lack of customer service knowing that I've been waiting for nearly 40 minutes already. I explained to them that on my Yelp app, it has said that it's ready to pick up since 3:09 so I don't understand what is taking so long. I'm assuming that if your order is still not ready within their estimated time frame on a takeout app, it will still say something like it is still being prepped. However, mine went from being prepped to ready to pick up, so doesn't that mean it is on Twinkle Tea's end that they are the ones who confirmed that it is already ready? Finally, picked up my order a few mins later & guess what? (: My food & 1 of the drinks have already been ready this whole time, just chilling on the pick-up table. I waited 40 ish mins just for 1 DRINK that I am pretty confident they forgot about or didn't make it till I had to complain. I saw them make a good 20-30 drinks this whole time, but unfortunately, none of them were mine till the last second. By the time I got in the car, opened the boxes up, you can straight tell that they are soggy & cold. Took a bite on both of them, the Popcorn Chicken (mild) & Fries (sour cream & onion), & lost my appetite. "Some have considered our tea and drinks to be the most sophisticated among the tea shops. We strive to achieve the perfect balance between the tea, sweetness, flavor, and texture. Come see the difference." I normally get their brown sugar milk tea, Thai tea, and popcorn chicken. So far, so good with the experience and the food. I've been here about 8-9 times and all the times were pleasant, with the employees always welcoming and asking how I am. The service is good and fast so I have no real complaints. The chicken is pretty good, not dry and the takoyaki balls are a decent size so I fill up on one order for a meal. They have recommendations on the board so it's a good idea to try them if you're unsure! I read from a previous Yelper's review mentioning that she has brought her dogs inside when she ordered her drinks and so we decided to do the same. The employees inside didn't seem to mind. Anyways, after checking out the large menu board, we ended up getting: Rose Milk Tea- I requested this drink to be made with 50% sweetener. I thought this iced drink was still on the sweet side and would probably try 25% sweetened next time. This drink had a nice rose flavor, but was rather on the artificial side. Mango Milk Tea- My husband decided to get this drink, which was also made with 50% sweetener. He liked his drink at that sweetened level. I thought his drink was good, although it was made with green tea (I don't typically like green tea). ---------------------------------- Total= $9.29 (after tax) While we waited for our drinks, we surfed the free WiFi (which was pretty fast...password is the business's phone number). The music inside was a little on the loud side (pop music) and the air conditioning was just blasting inside. So be sure to bring your coat or sweater if you choose to dine in (a good amount of small tables inside this place). The unisex restroom (down the narrow seating area) was clean upon this visit and adequately stocked with the essentials. I love this boba place SO MUCH. After my volleyball practice, I would always stop by to order a drink. They are so refreshing, and the taste is always spot on! I would recommend the Passion Fruit Green Tea w/ aloe. It is my to-go drink and is very relaxing to sip down on a hot day. It's been my go-to order for the longest time and it's tasty with less sugar. Grass jelly and/or their boba pairs well with the drink, but I've been ordering it with no toppings as of late. As for the snacks, I'm hooked on their takoyaki. It's affordable (a little over $4 for 6 balls)! Whenever I come here, I usually order it. This place used to be O'zero back in the days. I love coming here to get some work done due to their fast speed internet access that never disappoints me. On top of that, they consistently have good drinks with a default large size for the price of a regular size drink at other nearby boba places. The Milk Tea is rich in flavor and the grass jelly is not watery. Some places make grass jelly and its so runny it becomes the drink. However, this is based on a sip a took a long time ago lol. They do have a rewards system as well. So dont forget to add your number to the little tablet in front. They also have various amounts of games to use, which is awesome because the boyfriend and I are really competitive and we enjoy passing the time buy with fun games. Staff are usually pretty polite and drinks come out relatively fast even when its busy. I love that their menu makes ordering simple. You can custom your own drink... Choose the tea, flavoring, and toppings. My favorites are roasted oolong with either rose or lavender flavor, no sugar because the floral syrups already add sweetness, and either grass jelly or boba or even both. Also love that they use 5 star rewards, which is vastly superior, in my opinion, to traditional stamp cards which can be easily lost. But, the hint taste of the Hokkaido milk in it is really good. It's creamy and not overpowering. Their boba's not bad it's well cooked so (9/10) ~Mango Smoothies (9/10) It's a thick smoothie and really a good mango flavor compared to other bobas. One of our favorite. ~Sea Salt Thai Tea (3/10) Our least favorite. It has a weird Thai tea taste that I can't appreciate. This was my favorite spot in Alhambra. This location used to Ben & Jerry Icecream shop back in the days then it became Ozero and now Twinkle Brown Sugar. My go to drink is Twinkle Fruit Tea with half sugar during the summer. It has an excellent amount of mix fruits chopped in boba size coupled that with the refreshing tea makes the summer heat go away! The food and drink here was comparable to other Boba shops in the area. However, at the time we went the service was really, really slow. Even though we ordered ahead, we still had to wait about half an hour to get our order. The people were very nice, but their system is just really inefficient. There were at least 20 people waiting for their orders the whole time and this was in the middle of a day on a week day. We were only there because we got President's Day off. Don't know why everyone else was not at work. Didn't take any photos. Since the quality of the food/drink was comparable to elsewhere and the people were nice, still 5 stars, but they really need to improve the service. I really hate giving bad reviews but this place was a complete miss for me, the service wasn't bad. However, the teas were lacking and did not taste good in my opinion. The menu is simple to understand and the concept of the store is cute though. Here's what I've tried: Peach Green Tea: 5/10 artificial peach flavor is prominent, the drink lacked flavor (tastes like artificial peach that was watered down lol) It wasn't awful, but if I had choice I wouldn't get it again. Brown Sugar Milk Tea (half sweet): 4/10 tasted like straight watery plain milk tea, could not taste any of the brown sugar. Maybe it would taste better with full sweetness? Twinkle Fruit Tea: 6/10 this had more flavor than the other drinks I tried but it was slightly too sweet. In all honesty, it just looked prettier. LOL Overall: It just was not my cup of tea, literally in this case. If you've tried a lot boba places, you probably wouldn't like this place. read more
