We tried going there for lunch on 2 different occasions only to find the place closed both times. The sign outside says they open at 2 pm and the website says they open at 3 pm so I called to see why they were closed and I was told they don't get enough people for the lunch crowd so they aren't serving lunch anymore. If that's the case fine but then update your website and sign outside with the new hours. We tried going there one more time for dinner on a Saturday and even called before we left to make sure they were open, when we got there we noticed the sign outside now said bar open at 4 pm dinner at 5 pm. and as we are sitting at a table waiting the be served the bartender came over and asked if we were there for dinner, we said yes and she told us that the cook wasn't there and that she didn't know when he would be there, I don't know how anyone can run a business this way and expect to stay in business. On the other hand though if you're looking for a place to drink and play pool they seemed to be catering more towards that crowd than the restaurant area of the business. read more

Went here for a friends birthday party. The place was rented out to the party. She ended up inviting a lot of smokers and a good portion of people sat inside smoking because it was cold out. Place seems to be run very wild and is very old school. I did not eat here but after my experience, I don't think I ever would. read more

Probably one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. They gave us plastic forks and knives and paper plates. The music was strange because they played a melody of one song with the lyrics from another. It was distracting and very load. We waited for a while for our pizza to bake and when it did come, it was okay, nothing special, and we had to ask for stronger utensils because I had bits of plastic in my pizza. The decor was very outdated too. Overall, I was expecting a nice meal with my boyfriend, but I was more than disappointed with the service of this place. read more

We bought tickets for micro wrestling here and were incredibly disappointed by how many people they tried to cram into this tiny bar. Vey greedy and unprofessional in my opinion. I was sad to see so many poor reviews because this place is wonderful. My husband took us to Wine & Roses for our first date. The steak was outstanding and the amount of food was insanely generous. I was stuffed way before the steak arrived. The quality of the food is just really good. And Theresa does pour heavy when you choose a drink from the bar. I was charmed by the building and the koi pond (which now just holds turtles, I believe) and the wait staff is attentive. With the exception of one dish, I have loved everything that I have eaten there. (The dish in question was not poorly executed, I simply do not like the ingredients.) The bar & restaurant can be quiet (which is a refreshing change of pace from most places in Algonquin) but that only added to the charm. We have been there when it was busy & loud too. Lately we have been skipping 'the Strip' (Randall Corridor) because of the madness. We try to hit W&R on the holidays too because the bar gets rowdy and we can experience the craziness without getting involved. My husband & I were so impressed by the quality of food and service that we had our wedding reception there! We have since gone back many times. I am sad to report that my husband & I are moving across the country so we will most likely not be back to Wine & Roses anytime soon. We will miss this place, the food and the staff. Wine and Roses isn't just a gem; it's a quiet, out of the way restaurant serving great food. The bar can be quiet for a contemplative drink or rowdy for a night out. I highly recommend. :) read more

Attended the special Polish Buffet on Oct. 18. It was FANTASTIC!! The best Polish I have had in a long time. I have lived blocks away for 20+ years, but never went to this restaurant. It looks deserted most of the time, so I stayed away. We took a chance and SOOO glad we did. The interior is a bit dated, could use a coat of paint to cover the black ceiling and walls but very clean and comfortable. I think this place would get much more foot traffic it had windows facing the main street so people can see inside. It looks drab and run down from the outside. So lesson learned...looks can be deceiving. Average menu price was about $22 for a steak, but also offered pizza, burgers and sandwiches. The prime rib looked great...($19-22 depending on portion size). TRY IT!!! read more

Oh my god where to start, so first off this place is always under staffed and then the servers, except for 2 of them are generally rude to you cause there being overworked and are also generally under trained, or just too busy on their phones, this place has so much turn over it's not even funny, despite that we have been coming here for years because we love T's cooking and especially her buffet's. This years Easter buffet was a sad sad display of what I kept thinking was going to be a April Fools day prank, My wife and I were on diets for all of Lent and were looking forward to this meal for what seemed like an eternity. It couldn't have been more disappointing, Teresa if you read these get your money from the rude old man who says he's going to be the new owner before he runs you out of business. They only had one type of pirogi and it was cold in the center, they had sliders with stale toasted buns and over cooked meat, no carving station which was advertised online, the waffles were like overcooked Ego's, the desert station if you can even call it that looked like a half a tray of Sam's Club cookies. A fellow came to the table and asked how it was, I told him I am sorry , but it's terrible! where is Teresa, nobody knew where she was. then on the way out the door the same guy followed us out and asked us not to come back, I was still looking for the April fools camera crew at this point, but he was serious, like why would anyone ever go back to this place if Teresa is gone, it's a total dirty dump hole, I only give this place 1 star because I can't give it zero or negative stars. read more

Just went to the Easter Brunch. Totally disappointing and lack-luster. There was no carving station as advertised and half the food was cold or dried out...or just completely out all together ( how hard is it to keep scrambled EGGS stocked ). PAST brunches there have been amazing and that is what we were anticipating ( loads of homemade delicious choices ) ..this was the absolute worst. The new future owner told us to never come back again because we spoke up . He claimed that everyone else loved the food....maybe they were just too nice to say anything. I've never been treated so poorly at a restaurant. Especially one that I have been a regular at and loyal to , even when they had staff issues ( wait staff and cooks ) and issues transitioning to new management. The food was terrible! We ordered carry out after getting a menu in the mail. The pizza was completely overcooked and lacked flavor! The pizza tasted like rubber. It was supposed to be a butter crust but instead tasted like char. The employee we encountered was very nice but the food quality will keep us from trying it again. read more

Food was ok, service was bad - but what really upset me was that they charge $2 per soda, NO REFILLS... I know I didn't look at the drink portion of the menu - but the server kept coming by asking if we wanted refills - so we said yes. Mind you she didn't come by as often with the appetizer, soup, salad or meal - or to even check on us after she served the food. We got charged $12 for two sodas (two refills). We visited this past Saturday night. I only went because I had a Restaurant.com certificate. We walked into the bar side first. Had no idea there were two entrances. When we were being seated, there was only one table occupied. I thought that was weird. Big place and it wasn't packed on a Saturday night, why? I had mixed experiences with the food. My son and I both had the French Onion Soup and the New York Strip. My wife had a chicken sandwich. All these selections were good and well prepared. The French Onion Soup was very good and not too salty. We ordered the Calamari Steak. My son and I love calamari and I should have known calamari doesn't come in steaks. It was horrible. Don't waste your money. The previous reviewer says they had the Potato Pancakes and the were great. Not ours, they were soggy, cold and had a weird flavor. Service was so-so. After we were ready to pay and leave the waitress was no where to be found. Definitely won't be back. read more

We had a gift certificate so decided to try....WOW- so very surprised with the menu items! Mussels with garlic and saganaki we are incredible!!! The shrimp dinner was delicious and steak dinner with mashed potatoes was awesome. Service was incredible- we had Debbie as server and would honestly request her again. I can't understand why this place doesn't have a line out the door! Granted it was Labor Day weekend but it seems like our party of four was the only diners. Normally this would make me run for the hills but i am so glad we stayed. Yes it looks like a 70's supper club but that is part of the charm. I ordered the stuffed mushrooms as an app and my waitress even scraped the cheese on the plate and put the garlic butter in a container. We ordered a Cesar salad, pizza, sandwiches and the stuffed cabbage roll special. Everything was great! The cabbage rolls were especially delicious - our friend said they rivaled his Grandmas and they were really stuffed full. We will definately be back to sample the Polish Night and are planning to go watch a football game and enjoy their game buffet. I thought the prices were very reasonable. My husband and I visited the restaurant for the first time tonight, and had a very enjoyable dinner. We both had filet mignon, and the steaks were delicious. My husband chose potato pancakes and they were great; crispy on the outside and tender inside. We will be coming back to try the half-price pizza Tuesday or Wednesday next! The place needs major remodeling. We were there for dinner on a friday evening with only four other tables served the whole time. Prime rib was favorless and dry, the small container of Horse radish sauce was half full, the table dirty. My wifes filet was flavorless and unseasoned. Baked potato was good, fries were ok. They had a portable radio playing Christmas music from the bar that was empty adjacent to the dining area. Menu is very small. Never again. read more

I would have given 0 stars if I could. My friend and I went there a while ago. Boy, what a mistake! The old blonde haired waitress was very rude. She took our order, brought our drinks and then the gross pizza. She never came back to check to see if we needed anything. She DID, however, keep texting on her cell phone and even went outside a couple of times with her cellphone. The only time we saw her interact with the customers was when a couple of men came in. Just had the best blackened Prime Rib Dinner EVER for New Years Eve- Husband had Walleye- PERFECT. Calamari steak appetizer, Awesome way to bring in the New Year. We are long time customers who give Theresa 10 stars for carrying on with the restaurant with total class. This restaurant has been in the area since we've moved. Sure, it might need remodeled but the food and the service are the best in the county! If you see a sign for the Polish buffet you should go. It's the best Polish food this side of Poland. It would be a good idea to maybe remake Wine & Roses into a Polish restaurant. They would have customers lining up outside the door. read more

My wife and I had dinner here, and everything was great. I had the filet mignon, and she had the shrimp tempera. The filet was a little too red for me, but they took it back to cook it to my liking. The shrimp was excellent! We tried each others entree and agreed we would order them again. For 2.00 more we had the Baked French Onion soup. Never had soup with so much cheese, it was delicious! First let me say I have been a server for over 30 years. Walked in the door. No one up front to greet you. Saw 2 servers that walked past us at least twice. Then a customer who came from outside walked in and by us and stated we have to stand in the dining room to get noticed. So we did. One server finally acknowledged us and told us to sit anywhere. So we did. We sat and then we waited. Let me say it WAS NOT busy at all. 4 tables including us. When the server finally got to our table she asked us for drinks, when we questioned what products were offered she seemed like she got offended and stated WE HAVE A FULL BAR. I stated WE DONT DRINK, she then got flustered and kind of sneered at us. We ordered our drinks and she left the table. We studied the menu fir what seemed like 15 minutes when she finally brought our drinks and took our order. We then waited again. And we waited some more. We finally got our order and poof she was gone again. When asked for refills on our drinks that was a joke. We ordered Prime Rib, London Broil, and a Surf and Turf. Our bill was close to 90 bucks. My London broil was so chewy, it was like gum. Prime rib was decent and surf and turf was ok. My main complaint is that the server was not friendly. She truly did not want to serve us. But she was quick to bring me the bill, charge my credit card and get her tip. Not even a Thank You, not come again, not even how is everything. If i treated my customers like this I would never be able to survive. I had heard good things about this place. But my experience here was far from the past reviews. Will not be returning. read more

I am NOT one for eat out at all~ Had a recommendation to try Wine & Roses on 31 in Algonquin, absolutely HORRIBLE~ My soup was cold (and was told they only had one bowl left, it was yesterday's soup), the service sucked, waited at least 45/50 mins for our dinner and then an addition 20 mins for a second plate of fish (ALL YOU CAN EAT FISH FRY), they forgot to bring out my sister in laws soup she ordered and I had to go find ketchup for the kids on my own.. I WILL NEVER GO BACK! See that's why I eat at home, if I screw up my dinner at least I can blame myself! The people next to us waited over 45 mins and then just left without eat dinner.. Like 2 worlds, loud dated bar with dining room resembling a very old and dated rural supper club. Food okay but dining room had drinks served in red plastic solo cups and instead of napkins your given a bathroom hand towel which had a stale odor and tacky feel. Fireplace a nice touch but certainly needs a cleaning, inch of soot on exterior bricks. Server was good but complained about working long hours because of staff shortages. Others complained about having multiple parties booked without anyone knowing. Rushed through dinner because dining room was booked for an 8 PM SSP gathering (Secret Sex Party). Party decorations and contact cards were already on our table when seated which created an uncomfortable vibe. We should have never been seated in the decorated room and a more discrete handling of the 'party' would have been far more appropriate.
