Twisted Willow is a phenomenal restaurant. The food and the service are top quality, and very consistent. Our favorite menu items are the French onion soup, the braised short ribs and the cheesecake. The French onion soup is rich and bold, and is basically the food equivalent of a warm hug. The short ribs are so tender, they just absolutely fall apart the second your fork touches them. The cheesecake is decadent and flavorful, with a lovely fruit jam on top. Somehow it is not overly sweet, the cheese flavor really comes through at the forefront. For a fine dining establishment, they have always been incredibly gracious when we have our baby with us. One time a server even set up a makeshift changing table in the bathroom for us to use. You can't go wrong here, honestly. It's great food and very kind people that go above and beyond for patrons. read more

First off, the atmosphere is unique, fun & very uplifting. We entered in thru the lower level of this antique building & was greeted immediately by the hostess who asked us if we had a reservation, which we didn't. They looked pretty full but not to fret, she guided us to this secret upstairs level called the Twisted Willow treehouse. On the way up we spied in little small intimate dining cubbies along the way. Each one offering an enchanting way to dine in a beautifully decorated setting. 2 apps, 2 salads & 2 Entrees later we were impressed with everyone of them!!! Spent the weekend up in Port Washington for the weekend, great little town. My wife and I found the Twisted Willow on line and ended up be coming Twisted Willow restaurant STALKERS! Stoped in for some drinks and Saturday in their small down stairs bar. Met Joe the bar manager and fell in love with the atmosphere, and fun, knowledgable and up beat staff. At a good restaurant the food has to be good but what makes a good place into something super special is the staff, this sure is true at the Twisted Willow. We Decided to make it a Twisted Willow Weekend! Came back for dinner, then back for brunch on Sunday for there Bloody Mary bar and some sparkling wine. Wow. What a wonderful night out. The food was delicious. My mushroom and spinach (GF) was perfect. The noodles done al denta the flavor combination of spinach and mushrooms wonderful. The atmosphere was that of fine dining. Relaxing, soft music playing, couples able to converse without being loud. Decor comfortable and new. Wendy , our server, was personable and very knowledgeable of what was on the menu. The wine list, although not extensive, were well chosen and delightful. The description of the carrot cake doesn't do it justice--it's amazing! It's been a while since we have been able to enjoy such a nice night out. We made reservations for the 3rd floor tree house room. Candy was very helpful on the phone and service was great. The Twisted Cuke drink was great; it tastes so fresh. I said it tastes like summer; my husband said that isn't a good description as it is summer, but I disagree. We had Bruschetta as an appetizer. It was good. The wine carmelized onions on top were flavored beautifully. Next up was New England clam chowder for my husband and salad for me. Chowder was good, but nothing to write home about. Salad was a mix of fresh greens, shredded carrot, a grape tomato, and a cucumber slice. I got it with the orange honey dill dressing. Wow! Dressing was fantastic. I might try to make it myself at home. Main course, I got the spinach mushroom fettuccine and my husband got the shrimp pasta. The shrimp were good size and flavor. Pasta had a great sauce that almost tasted like a comfort food I can't quite put my finger on. Of course they would be easier to eat without the tails, but hey I understand presentation. The mushroom spinach fettuccine was creamy, good, and filling. No way to finish it! Okay, maybe someone else could, but it would have put me over the top. Service, even on the 3rd floor was good. Twisted Willow is a farm-to-table restaurant that serves contemporary comfort food made mainly with seasonal ingredients from local producers. The restaurant is located in the former Wisconsin House Hotel atmosphere, and offers a cozy, intimate and welcoming spot for dinner with friendly service. I tried the Almost Famous meatloaf sandwich, which was served with beer gravy, bacon and "smashed potatoes," which was both filling and delicious. Had the tart cherry crumble for dessert, which was excellent as well. I'm looking forward to visiting again soon to try the summer menu, and also to stop by the new TreeHouse Lounge which recently opened above the restaurant. read more

What an excellent find in Port Washington. There seem to be several great restaurants sprouting up here and Twisted Willow is definitely one of them. Nice variety in menu items. We had the artichoke/crab fondue. Tasty and the toasted ciabetta was a nice vessel for the fondue. Before dinner arrived they served a bread plate with corn muffins. The corn muffins were so good, crusty on the outside, I could have made a meal of those. I had their soup of the day, egg drop. The egg drop soup was not your typical chinese restaurant egg drop, there were slivers of ginger that added a nice little zing to the soup. Dinner I tried the almost famous meatloaf, not sure why its not famous yet, but it should be! read more

My husband and I were planning a special birthday weekend including a dinner at Twisted Willow. We made our reservations and arrived with time to spare. It is a very hot day and we were seated in a small room in an alcove. I began to feel warm an uncomfortable as I get claustrophobic and asked if we could move to the larger room with better air flow . The hostess told us no as that table was needed for another party. So we had no choice but to leave without dinner. They didn't want to accommodate us at all. Very poor customer service! read more

Wow! What a terrific place! The food is fantastic, the waitstaff is cheerful and friendly without being cloying and the dining room is homey and elegant. This is farm-to-table with a twist: The owners actually OWN the farm. So, whenever possible (when the food is in season) the veggies come directly from the farm. When it's not, the meat, fruit and vegetables come from excellent farms, and it is very fresh and delicious. Although there's an excellent higher end menu, it's the burgers that are the star for me. So much wonderful flavor! But soups, salads and entrees are all excellent. Prices for dinner entrees are between $15 and $40, but that amazing burger is only $10 -- and it's worth every penny. read more

Went to dinner on a Friday. Started with the crab /artichoke fondue. Yummy, with enough for four of us to have some. For entrees, I had the sirloin filet. Melt in your mouth tender with a wonderful sauce. Cooked perfectly. Mother had the fish fry. Said it was tasty and moist. My father had the baby back ribs, braised to fall off the bone perfection, also tasty. Sister had the shrimp, which she did was wonderful as well. Cheesecake for dessert was huge and totally scrumptious. Finally a place of real quality at a reasonable price in Port Washington. Great job Willow. That was a very nice hour and a half. What a treat. It was Valentine's Weekend and we sure got lucky. I got the Walleye and it was so good. The cocktails were fun and tasty.

I would say 3.5 . The ambiance is wonderful and the service was great! I was impressed with the drink prices as they were very reasonable with an extensive drink menu. Unfortunately I wasn't that impressed with the food. The duck spring rolls were good with good sized chunks of duck meat but a little too much cabbage as well. I think some mung bean noodles interspersed would have been perfect. The shrimp bisque was pretty thin and while it was neat having actual shrimp in there, they were rubbery and overcooked. The braised short rib was ok, but quite dry amd it did need the beer gravy / sauce that thankfully was delicious. My wife had the salmon which was too sweet for my taste though she enjoyed it, maybe just a touch of miso to help balance the sauce and the jasmine rice was overcooked, not mushy, but kind of dried out like it had sat too long at the top of the rice cooker? However SUPER major KUDOS for getting us in without a reservation on NYE for an early meal so thank you for that! read more

Stopped here after an afternoon stroll in port Washington. Ate on the 3rd floor "treehouse lounge". Bruschetta was perfect. Unexpectedly soft bread (very pleasant) with a perfect mix of sweet and savory. Complimented with a soup of the day (tomato bisque). Highly recommend. Will be back for dinner. Not to mention all the produce comes nearby from Grafton. 5/5 for sure. Service was great as well. read more

The best part of tonight was of course the servers and bartender. Great performance and they really work hard for the customers. As far as my order-the charcuterie plate was perfect, just right to start off dinner. For the main started with a salad which is always a nice palette cleanser, although they also sent me bread and olive oil. Now things are not going well. The olive oil is not peppery as it should be instead it has very little flavor. I ordered the Walleye with a parmigiana crust but the crust is soggy and over fried. The sides were carrot basmati (tasted more of curry) and sautéed veggies (but I asked to have them switched with pickled veggies, which the server had to take care of). Overall I am not impressed with this meal. The place and people are great so I know I must come again to hopefully have everything come together. read more

We went to Twisted Willow for their Friday lunch. What started out as promising ended up being a slow, excuse-ridden experience. We had a toddler with us and the service was extremely slow. We were all hungry and looked around to see people who arrived later than us getting their food before us. The fairly detached and incompetent server kept on saying "the kitchen is so busy." I wanted to say, so what? We are paying customers too. Why should our food for any longer? In any case, the food came out and it was nothing special. When the hostess came we complained of the extremely slow service. All she came up with were excuses. Then the manager came and asked us about our meal and we said the same thing. Again, excuses. Why ask if, instead of acknowledging what happened, all you're going to do is cough up excuse after excuse? It's not as if we've never eaten at a "boutique restaurant" (her words). Anyway, she gave us a $25 gift certificate as an apology. We will never use it because we will never be back. Mediocre food, bad service. read more

The food was good, really good. The service was not. We (a party of 7) were the first table seated for lunch on a Saturday - about 11:30. Everyone was friendly and pleasant. Service was glacial. It took an hour and 15 minutes after ordering lunch until it was served. We're talking sandwiches (Vietnamese chicken sandwich was great!), burgers and chicken fingers, what could have possibly taken so long. They acknowledged it was slow. Said the kitchen got swamped. We were the first ones there, how'd it get swamped? They comp'd dessert and tried to make it right. Food was good, but the slowness was really bad and seemingly unjustified. 50/50 if I'd try again. Very charming restaurant that is kid-friendly. I enjoyed the maple dressing with my green salad. The walleye was cooked perfectly and served with delicious summer vegetables. For dessert, the port with a hazelnut truffle was a great ending to my meal. Parking was easy to find. read more

Highlights/lowlights 1) great food 2) nice atmosphere 3) gluten free friendly Came to the Twisted Willow on a Friday night for a 7:00pm reservation (it was VERY busy so definitely make a reservation). I noticed right away that the interior had a really warm feel with hardwood floors, tables pretty close together, natural lighting from the big windows and candles on the tables. We were seated right away and the friendly staff gave us menus. There is a page on the front of the menu that shows which local farms some of the ingredients came from (cool!). There was also a great specials menu with some delicious sounding entrees and Easter inspired drinks (I was there the Friday before Easter). I ordered one of the specialty drinks and we got a gluten free flatbread for the table. The drink was strong and the flatbread was awesome. I couldn't even tell that the pesto and arugula topped flatbread was gluten free! I ordered the gluten free mushroom and kale stroganoff for dinner. When the dish arrived I could not believe how big it was! The pasta tasted great, it was super creamy and the kale really added to the dish. My only problem with the stroganoff is I really could not taste the oyster that was supposed to be in it. Our server was pretty slow at refilling waters but was very friendly and quick to bring us a dessert menu after dinner. There was a gluten free option on the dessert menu so I obviously "Had" to try it. The flour less chocolate brownie, like the entree was gigantic and so so good. Served with ice cream, whipped cream, and berries it was the perfect end to a great meal. Twisted Willow is one of my new favorites and I will definitely be back! read more

Finally! I top notch restaurant in Ozaukee County! We ended up eating outside (we were told they never do this, disappointing) and the food and service were great! Started with a bottle of pinot grigo and the crab and artichoke fondue. Pretty good. Soup special was a cream of wild mushroom. Tried my friends and it was good! Then I ordered the sirloin filet. Small variety of vegan options (labeled!) on the menu, as well as great service and a cozy, stately atmosphere. As a newbie to the town of Port Washington, I was pleasantly surprised at how cute the whole town is. The location of the Twisted Willow is great and it was surprisingly busy. I went to the restaurant on a Tuesday night with only one other work associate but we had to sit in the "bar area" because the dining room was filled with reservations. I'm a big wine drinker and just love me some Pinot Noir, but they didn't have a great selection of wine by the glass. However after a long day at work, I guess wine is wine. The bread came out warm and was good. I had a tomato/cucumer salad before my meal. Honestly, it was nothing to rave about but it was good. After struggling to make a decision on the delicious looking menu items, I ended up with the ribs (I know, not exactly the most professional of choices for a business meeting). The ribs really were "fall-off-the-bone" and I could eat them rather gracefully with a fork and knife. They were delicious and the hit of the night. The whole menu is basically a "farm to fork" menu and every item has a detailed description of where it came from, etc. Really a quaint, cute spot and it looked like they have live music on the weekends too! The Twisted Willow is a fine restaurant, our meal was well prepared and tasted very good. That said, I felt swindled. My wife and I own a small farm and were looking forward to fresh, local, seasonal fare prepared in new ways. Since The Twisted Willow heaviliy promotes itself as a "Farm-to-Table" restaurant we quite naturally expected to see an abundance of local food on the menu. I opened my menu to the appetizer section and found...Crab? Coconut Shrimp? Bruschetta made with canned tomatoes during the height of Wisconsin tomato season? Where was the local food? Coconuts, crab and shrimp are not real common in Wisconsin. Okay, maybe they'll rebound when I look at the entrees. The first three entrees listed are 1) Tilapia (trash fish from fish farms who know where), 2) ATLANTIC salmon (hint:Lake Michigan has salmon and it is less than 500 yards from your restaurant. Atlantic salmon is not local), 3) Again with the shrimp! So in summary, good food, nothing actually "farm to table" about it. read more
