The ambiance is a traditional smoker shack, the service was friendly and prompt, but the food left me wanting more. The pulled pork was more in chunks rather than pulled. I had to cut apart then restack my sandwich. The bbq sauce is more tomato heavy in flavor than I would have liked. The store-bought bun was nice. I called at 5:00 pm to order a rack of ribs...the owner tells me they are usually open until 7:00 pm. But because he wasn't very busy..he closed the restaurant early. Unacceptable on every level...if you're a business then operate regardless of your lack of patrons today...you just lost a patron because of your laziness. BTW, I was ordering 3 full racks of ribs....$60.00 worth of business lost as well as a patron!!! Way to go Swifty! read more

Stopped by this cool little spot on the way to a wedding in Kansas City. Cool decor outside, and not too bad inside. Our waitress was extremely friendly, and food was fast and really good. Haven't had good bar b que since I moved to Kansas. Sorry, but very partial to Texas y'all. James and I are on a road trip again and he has been craving "que". This place was down the road from the gas station....and well.worth.the.stop. Yes, it is a hole in the wall....with prompt, friendly and polite service...A+ in our book. I had a pulled pork sandwich with a huge portion of meat and just the right amount of sweet sauce. He had a brisket sandwich heaping full of slices which he rated 4/5 as he prefers sauce on the side. For a small-town shack, I suppose it will do in a pinch. I really like to support privately owned places - especially BBQ joints, but this is not the time to be mediocre! Step it up! Let me say this: the lure of the smoker and its smell was fantastic. Unfortunately the taste of the BBQ was not as good as the aroma. Folks, that confuses my brain. I had ordered the pulled pork sandwich. It took at least 15 minutes to receive the food, and when I did receive it, the consistency of the meat was very mushy, and the sauce was mediocre at best. Bun was dry and hard in spots. There were no fountain drinks or iced tea. Drinks are served from a bottle or a can. I tend to wonder if the two "dudes" have tried other BBQ before to compare theirs to? I think they and their joint could really benefit from this. We came as a party of four around 6:15 pm, on a Saturday night. It is a small town.. I was skeptical and since we aren't local I was hesitant. We walked in and there was not one patron. We were Greeted by Debbie. She was nice. Our food came out almost to fast and wasn't as hot as I would like. We ordered a slab of ribs, jumbo chicken wings, pulled pork nachos and two sides. Now, if I could give 5 stars for one item it would be the cornbread. Amazing! Anyway, the ribs were rather tough, the beans were pretty decent, and they do serve beer. We just stopped at this "dive" and I ordered pork steak sandwich, baked beans and had to try the cornbread because of all the great reviews. Everything was just wonderful! My husband had pulled pork sandwich and chips and he said his was really good too. We had to eat in the car since our little dog is traveling with us and it's 97 degrees outside. If we are ever in this area again, it's a definite stop for lunch or dinner. If you're looking for great bbq, which, to me, was not too smokey at all. I was in town from STL for my son's 5pm baseball game. Looking for something local, not a fast food chain (I-70 is chock full of 'em), and maybe had take out for the game, picnic style. Bonus points for sharing well with 15-year old boys. This place was it and had it all. Menu was short, to the point. These two dudes don't mess around. They do BBQ, straight up, and they do it well. I had the tenderloin sandwich (meaty, fresh pillowy bun), a brat (had that BBQ smoky/grill flavor), a slab, and some slaw. The ribs were a little under-done and a little toothy, but the flavor, smoke, and porkiness in all of the food I had were top notch competition-grade BBQ. The slaw is lightly sweet/vinegar german-style. And delicious. Get the family portion. Service was very friendly, they pointed me inside to the A/C to wait. And they were happy to cut the slab for me when I told them it was for a post-game snack for a bunch of teenage boys and I would have no knife at the ballpark (not a good idea these days anyway). They were a hit, by the way. In short, the 'cue is top notch: dry-rub style, smoky, meaty, tender, good bark, fresh, and hot (temp-wise). Prices are good (actually really good for the quality). A unique venues with decent Missouri BBQ. The staff was cordial but the overall atmosphere was a little drab.

Hidden and inexpensive but really freaking good! I stop in whenever I come through Warrenton. The last time we came through they gave me and my girlfriends a sample of the cornbread. All of us have been avoiding bread for swimsuit season but this was worth cheating on the diet. read more

Good pulled pork sandwich. We stopped here because we were on the road and checked yelp for a non-chain in Warrenton. The sandwiches were fast and tasty with smokey sauce. The portion was just right for lunch. There isn't a drink fountain so all drinks are cans or bottles, even water, I would have brought my nalgene in if I knew that because I don't like bottled water but that's a little detail I wouldn't sweat too much. This place by far serves the best BBQ I've had in Missouri since I moved here from Texas several years ago. My uncle and I drive from St Louis out to Warrenton to eat at this place. I usually order either a pulled pork sandwich or a brisket sandwich. Both come with so much meat on them you'll be scooping it up off the plate as it falls out of your mouth with each bite. The BBQ sauce they offer either on the sandwich on the side is wonderful as well. The prices are extremely fair. You can get a huge sandwich for 6 bucks. They have a pork steak sandwich for 6.50 I think that I swear weighs in at a good 16oz and is so tender you can cut it with plastic utensils. The dining room is a small little enclosed patio that has received many upgrades over the couple of years I've gone. It is now heated, insulated, and has a TV so you can enjoy a beer and catch whatever game may be on. But it's still just a souped up screened in porch. And I love it. It provides perfect atmosphere for the meal at hand. I'm sure all the Warrenton locals know about this place. But I was shocked not to see someone else on Yelp raving about this place. If you love good BBQ, and are driving by on 70, stop here and have a sandwich. Oh, and they cater too. read more

Went here based on the yelp reviews. Not sure what people were thinking. The waitress was not exactly welcoming. The only thing that was excellent was the brat. It had good flavor, a snap when you bit in to it and was not fatty at all. The pulled pork sandwich was chewy like calamari. The beef brisket was fatty, tough, flavorless and grey. The sauce is mediocre at best, and the strong oregano like spice is completely inappropriate. And what bbq restaurant doesn't have sweet tea? They offered it in a bottle. What a lifesaver. On a short trip to CoMo I was quite close to stopping at a Wendy's, but couldn't find it. I stopped at this shack and ordered a massive turkey sandwich, potato salad, and Crack Bread (I think she called it corn bread.) The Crack Bread was one of the best things I've ever eaten, I think it was the butter and sugar that did it. We tried this place on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered ribs, brisket chicken wings and brats. Brisket and chicken tasted a week old. Some of the brisket was ice cold and some was hot which leads me to believe it was just grabbed from the fridge and thrown in the microwave. Ribs were tough. The brats were decent.
