Recently stopped by Two Hands for brunch and ordered the Smashed Avo Toast - avocado, pickled shallots, pepitas, sesame seeds, and pickled chilies on sourdough with Poached Egg ($15) and Sencha Green Tea ($4.50). Pretty decent prices compared to other restaurants in the area. I originally was looking to have some soup but they didn't have it so I settled for what I mentioned above. COCKROACH IN MY FOOD!!! Do yourself a favor and do not come here. I found a giant dead cockroach in my quinoa. Management was barely apologetic and overall, handled the situation very poorly. Immediately following the discovery of the cockroach, a server took my phone number and told me a manager would call me. 48 hours later, nobody had called. My friends and I decided to revisit the restaurant in person to follow up. Unsurprisingly, it was very busy and looked like business as usual in there. Several of the same servers were working. One of them called the manager on the spot and handed her phone to me. The conversation was not very reassuring. I was provided with an excuse about how the restaurant has been using new suppliers. Since the new watercress comes triple washed, they didn't think they had to wash before serving. To me, that sounds like a measly excuse and does not explain how a cockroach ends up in the food served to a customer. I was offered a free meal, but declined as I was leaving town early the next day and I think most normal people would have hesitated to dine at the restaurant again after what happened. The manager still took down my email address and promised to send me something; again, I have received nothing in my inbox (72 hours later). The situation was truly abhorrent, and I have since realized how much I underreacted compared to the general public, and how much the Two Hands team took advantage of my graciousness. I tried to be understanding because I know how difficult the food & restaurant industry can be and accidents can happen to anyone, but how the team handled the aftermath of the situation has been truly concerning, disappointing, and disturbing. The fact that I myself had to personally follow up in order to receive any sort of addressing of the situation really demonstrated to me that the team did not take the incident seriously and seemingly were trying to brush it under the rug and resume business as usual. read more

I still prefer Ruby's, but you really can't go wrong with any of the food or coffee items on the menu here. I had the miso mushroom bowl today, which was delicious. The chili oil really has a kick to it. There was a lack of flavor complexity as the chili oil really took over the entire flavor profile, but I still really enjoyed it. I had a side of bacon on the side, which wasn't my favorite and I wouldn't order it ago. My almond latte was great and perfectly made. Most people would order it with a poached egg but I don't like yolks--especially runny yolks. So I ordered my egg over hard. I asked for egg white only but it came with the yolk. I was in a better mood after coffee, so I just cut the yolk out and didn't make a fuss. I didn't know the avocado roast had parsley sprouts and peppers on it. I had to pick those out too. Although I deconstructed the avocado toast, it was yummy. But I was still not satisfied. My server, Claudia, had recommended the frozen Açaí bowl. I decided to order that too. It had fresh fruit: bananas, strawberries, blueberries, granola, and nuts. It was DELICIOUS! And it hit the spot. Claudia was super nice and attentive. She is a keeper. During peak covid they temporarily closed a location or two due to lack of business but I'm so glad to see that they've all reopened since. Pretty simply menu here, mainly breakfast/brunch type (e.g. eggs, toast, salad, sandwiches). They offer dine in and take out. I recommend almost everything on their menu. Recently I ordered the market plate, banana bread, and breakfast burrito. Zoes Market Plate ($16.5) - 5/5, simple clean fresh ingredients, almost looks too healthy but definitely satiating Banana Bread ($9) - 3/5, ok so NGL the banana bread was super stale, maybe I just happened to get a bad piece idk, but I FOR SURE inhaled all the espresso mascarpone off of the top Breakfast Burrito ($13.5) - 4/5, the pickled jalapenos are such a plot twist, along with the hash brown as well. We met a couple friends here for brunch yesterday and had a solid experience. Great iced coffees, good food, and a nice, pleasant atmosphere. The space is bright and casual, and it's good that we made a reservation in advance because it is tiny inside. Service is not attentive (long stretches of nobody available), but it is decent once it arrives. We got the brassicas salad with pulled chicken and the miso mushroom bowl to share. The brassicas was really good: a nice variety of ingredients that all complemented each other well, and even though the pulled chicken was too dry, it had a nice seasoning that we enjoyed. One of us really did not care for the mushroom miso bowl, but the other one liked it well enough, so who knows. Our daughter was very content with her lemon poppyseed waffle, which we sampled and also found to be delicious. FYI the mascarpone cream is more like a frosting than something light and airy. We're happy to have given this place a go, but wouldn't exactly classify it as a "must try" in NYC. Also, apparently they have an Austin location??! Never heard of her! Prices here are your average brunch/lunch prices. Good to sit in and get your work done (they have wifi and a bathroom, saw two people on their laptops). Quick and good service. Menu has a variety of options - good for people with dietary restrictions who need to eat gluten free/vegan etc. Cons: I got the Brassicas Salad ( charred broccolini, brussels sprouts, kale, hummus, soft poached egg, avocado, pickled shallots, buzz chili & seeds ) and tbh it wasn't very filling. We got here in the nick of time (12:30-ish on a Friday); 15 minutes later, we'd have had to wait for a table. And you know what? It would've been worth waiting for! They have indoor and outdoor seating, so we chose a table out in the shed. We were comfortable with our light jackets on but open, and the breeze grazed the tops of our heads, dry pleasant. I chose the avocado toast and added a poached egg for $3. The hunk of good crusty bread held up well and the whole thing was delicious! My husband went completely out of character and ordered the lemon poppyseed waffle with mascarpone. The mascarpone was artfully ribboned in thick strips atop half the large waffle, with a couple of slices of fresh strawberry. We each had a very good, if kinda small, cup of decaf Americano. Not that we were still hungry, but after having read several reviews on yelp, I 'had' to try the banana bread. So we shared a portion for dessert - wow, really yummy! It's a thick (3/4 inch? 1 inch?) slice of banana bread, topped with thick ribbony swirls of coffee-flavored mascarpone. We were still full after walking through SoHo, up to Union Square Greenmarket, and all the way home (did about 8+ miles of walking today!)!!! Pleasant and efficient servers, big clean bathroom, definitely a return-to kind of place! I hadn't realized ahead of time just how extensive the Two Hands chain is; a few in Manhattan and even in Austin TX! So if you see one in your travels, give it a try! read more

I thought this would be a free, complimentary switch as she didn't mention there would be any extra charge for it. When we got the receipt, there was a $2 side salad charge. While it was only $2, I was more irked that they didn't tell me upfront that there would be an additional charge for the replacement. Had I known, I would have gladly paid the additional $2 or just gotten it without the cilantro or salad altogether because it didn't add much in my opinion. The food here was solid, nothing special. They have a pretty limited menu with lots of healthy options. Definitely would choose to go to Ruby's over here tho it was nice that there wasn't a line at 10am on a Saturday. There was a small wait building when we left around 11am. I think the spinach could've been made with a sauce or salad as well as the avocado, since the plate cost $15 which is sort of expensive given that a good portion of the food didn't require too much processing. I did appreciate how fresh the ingredients were. My friend's acai bowl was also very pretty. I feel like there is a lot of hype around this place and I don't get it. I ordered an açaí bowl and it tasted savory, as if someone used the vegetable/garlic knife to choose my fruit. I literally couldn't finish eating it. It was so gross. Then as I'm drinking the beet root latte, I started to get a stomach ache - I almost vomited. I paid my tab and didn't complain although I did let them know they should be more careful. Who knows if they took that info and forwarded it. Also it's cramped inside, which I disliked.
