I was not impressed with this place. The ramen was good, but at the end of the day it's ramen. Ramen that costs over $10/bowl. Don't get me wrong, it was VERY tasty. However, what really irritated me is that they won't let you take the ramen home if you have any leftover because it "can compromise the quality of the noodle". Well that's fine and all if I had plans to share it, but I was the one to be eating it the next day for lunch. I understand somewhat where they are coming from, but it is a little arrogant and smug. SEXIST RUDE & DISGUSTING This blonde waitress with a white beanie gave the worst service I've ever seen in my life!! I use to wait tables you do not ignore people then once you finally ask if they're ready get pissed off because we are ready to order after being IGNORED FOR 20 MINUTES. She ignored me & my mother to talk to some boys & would only look my stepdad in the eye. I was with my parents so I just pushed it off.. Fine, I get people get overwhelmed. Then I asked for an extra straw once she brought us the drinks WE PRACTICALLY HAD TO PINE FOR(she literally forgot to ask us what we wanted to drink) she said "sure" begrudgingly & proceeds to not bring me one after 3x of asking.. Me and a friend was in town for business and decided to stop by this place for dinner. Has a unique "New York" vibe since you had to walk down a flight of stairs through a basement. We ordered the Tonkotsu ramen, pork belly & sausage yakitori. The Tonkotsu ramen was delicious! The best ramen I have ever tasted, the ramen noodle had a earthy garlic butter flavor combined with the pork broth made such an exceptional meal. Wanted to try some Japanese food with my wife we both ordered a chicken karage bento box and a pork ramen. The chicken on both of the bento boxes where burnt leaving a bitter after taste either from dirty fryer oil or being fried to long and the ramen we both had was salty and had no depth of flavor. Overall a letdown for both of us because the entrance down the stairs and interior decor are awesome and really give some sort of Asian street vibe you would see in Japan and really builds up the expectation of the food. Definitely didn't expect an izakaya in Tennessee to be any good, coming from NYC izakayas. We got all the vegan options and they were all awesome! The pickles were some of the best Japanese-style pickles I've ever had. Ramen was also really good, and they can add chili oil to make it spicy if you want the vegan version. I am writing this for my friend Jeremy. Jeremy drug a bunch of us redneck hillbillies into two ten jack. While we were still trying too figure out what the name meant, Jeremy had already got us seated and had them taking our drink orders. Jeremy himself knew what to order and helped each of us order food, that we were not even sure was food till Jeremy informed us that "Yes you can eat that"! They sat us at a spot that was in the middle of a small mall. I am sure to the people walking by watching each of us figuring out what we were eating was like going to the Memphis Zoo. Not too impressed. The location seemed interesting at first because it reminded me of some of the basement Japanese restaurants in New York City. But the atmosphere here is completely generic. Most Izakaya style restaurants have characteristics such as wall hangings or local Japanese items. But this place has nothing to indicate it is Japanese and really it could be any type of restaurant. I think the ownership realized that ramen is trendy now and so went with a ramen menu. The menu isn't very good and lacks explanations for the Japanese terms. I ordered ramen, and it came with nothing except a bowl of plain noodles. $15 for a bowl of dry noodles seemed like a heck of a lot for a small portion during lunch. I've lived in Chattanooga for years and just recently gave this place a try for dinner. It is pricey, since it's served Tapas-style, so be prepared for a heftier bill than at most other restaurants. This is hands down one of the best meals I've eaten in Chattanooga. The complexity of the dishes and the way each course is diverse yet perfectly balanced is spectacular. We have looked forward to eating here for over 2 years since seeing the Nashville location on The Travel Channel, and on Tuesday at 6pm, there were only 4 tables in the whole restaurant and I had to get the attention of the bartender multiple times for basic requests: 1 star lost for - Minimal customer service during a non-busy time. 1 star lost for - The saltiest meal I have ever eaten in my life. The ramen noodles themselves were perfect--same for the accoutrements. However, I cannot even describe the salt levels. Uncalled for is the best I can say. 1 star lost for - I tried to resurrect the salt issue with a 2nd meal to make up for the minimal protein and salt content in the Tonkotsu, yet only to receive my Yakitori skewer well after the 2nd ramen meal was finished and having already asked for the check. There was no one in the restaurant! Why was my food ran from the kitchen incomplete? Doesn't make sense! I never write reviews. Ever. I'm livid I spent $77 dollars! Don't recommend! read more

Was in town for a wedding and this restaurant was recommended to us. Anything that was "Japanese" was not good but too surprised for a smaller inland town. The fusion items were better, such as the brussels sprouts. Clams had sand in them, hotate (scallops) were not fresh, sushi rice in the maki and nagri was crumbly and on the hard side, ramen broth looked and tasted like they added ingredients to give it the milky, creamy consistency (not from simmering pork bones).
