Tried Tycoon today for my sisters birthday. I ordered the burger which is probably the best thing on the menu. The desserts are dry and not even sweet. My mom ordered steak and it was over cooked. The server/bartender had our table and one guy at the bar and took forever to get our food. Also she "forgot" our refills.. how do you forget when you're so dead?.. anyways save your money and go to Marty Bs or something. read more

For those that like to cut to the chase I will say this location has really wonderful people with great attitudes working there. It's half nightclub half restaurant inside but very upscale design. They do have a patio which is for the most part closed in...that part just seemed cramped and the cast iron chairs were quite bulky and awkward to even move a few inches around on the turf just to stand up and sit down. If I were to go back, I'd order drinks and appetizers only as if it was a tapas place. The appetizers we had were really great. And Felix is about the nicest and attentive lead server I've had. Was able to meet Eric who I believe is the general manager and had seen another review. At least tells me they are listening and taking feedback. He welcomed me back and said he hoped they can do better this time. I will give feedback on the steak we ordered later in the review. It was my 50th birthday and we had a fun group of friends with us. Reservations were easy to make and we had to sit outside as their inside tables can't fit more than six I think we were told. It was a very beautiful evening and overall we had a really great time. The vibe this evening was very fun as there were several groups of friends at tables around us. They do have an iPad "sommelier" which is supposed to help guide you through the wine list and even make suggestions. It kept giving me white wine suggestions even though I'm a die-hard red wine drinker....LOL...but It's an interesting exercise to scroll through it and answer the prompts. I did not find any Pinot noirs that I liked though they had a decent selection. A few minutes later Felix came back with a glass of red wine that suited me just fine and I am grateful for the accommodation. I believe he said it was Mohua or something along those lines. The appetizers we ordered and shared with each other were the Akaushi sliders, charcuterie and burrata board, and a shushito and lump crab dip. The sliders were served on Kings Hawaiian bread and as a native of Hawaii I can say they were put to good use. You get three of them and I thought they were fantastic and at $14 I think a great price. The burrata cheese dominates the board and the Italian cuts over the board which is interesting. Marinated olives, grain mustard, and pesto all tasty. I think a great addition to this board might be some local honey/honeycomb personally. Overall the board is ok at $29. Shishito peppers, artichokes and Parmesan made for a good dip and who doesn't like a good piece of naan (dip is $22). My wife got a wedge salad ($14) and the other wives shared it with her and it never got to the men's side of the table so I can assume it was good. I think if we had stopped there we would have been fine, but I decided I wanted to try some of the nicer meals they have and ordered the 14-ounce boneless ribeye ($54) and a side of lobster Mac ($16). They do have some interesting add-ons you can have with your steak such as crab, blue cheese, and bone marrow, pouire. We tried the blue cheese ($5). It's really here where we had the biggest issue of the night which was a large piece of gristle on one end. The ribeye also came out a smidge past mid-rare. Not bad enough to really complain and I'm not one who causes a fuss anyway in restaurants. But I was disappointed for sure. The Mac was good and came with a decent amount of lobster. However, after having these two I think we would probably just stop at appetizers and drinks next time and the group agreed. Felix then surprised us with a carrot cake that my wife ordered for me, a really fat piece of it which the table shared and wished me happy birthday. I appreciated the gesture for sure. I believe the dessert was $26 and was more than enough for each of us 8 to get a good slice of it. I don't really eat a lot of desserts but this one was pretty good. The food including apps, steak, dessert on my tab was about $160 (sliders, salad, charcuterie, ribeye w/danish cheese, lobster Mac, cake)Drinks average about 20-25 each and I had the glass of wine and my wife thinks she had 3 or 4 Top Dogs...LOL... Tab came to $330 total after my wife punched in 20% tip. I think without the steak and lobster Mac it would have been closer to $250 and we still would have had the good time. In perspective there's some great places close by where we would get all the same in the lower $200s range so not sure I'd call this place a value. However, we certainly enjoyed ourselves overall and the staff had a great hand in that. End of day this is a high cost place, but I believe drinks and appetizers only are a good work around for those not wanting to break the bank. As a side note: they've gotten much better at making old fashioneds but both my friends with us that drink them like I do said they were a bit sweet. Second visit provided the same, five-star experience in food, service (by Blayke), and ambiance (with a few minor exceptions). The unexpected "sparkler" and annoying yelling / screaming / clapping by staff and diners to celebrate a birthday seemed a bit out of character for this type of establishment. In both visits I've not experienced the DJ while trying to eat, but I'd probably feel the same way about that. Also the process of setting up a table for a large party right next to us provided an uninvited distraction by "far more staff than should be required" wandering around our table seemingly confused as to how to setup the tables. I watched the placement and replacement of chairs by different staff members happen numerous times. Note that this is one of those restaurants that chooses not to incorporate some of the required taxes in the drink prices on the menu like most other places do, at least in my experience. The 15% tax that you'll be charged for alcoholic drinks means the glass of wine will end up being $1+ more than you might expect. Of all the places I dine in the area, I've only noticed this at one other restaurant--a restaurant that went out of business fairly fast despite their high quality food and uniqueness. They're also now requiring a credit card to place a reservation and will charge you if you have to cancel within 24 hours. It's very rare that I ever cancel a reservation but occasionally unexpected events happen. This policy will surely impact my decision when deciding where to dine in the future. read more

I love that this place opened in Flower Mound. This is the sort of upscale restaurant that would not be out of place at all in uptown Dallas. We are lucky to have it here in Flower Mound. They always have excellent service and cocktails. I get the Chief. I highly recommend the Blistered Shishito & Lump Crab Dip. It's a little too nice to bring really young children during a busy time. You can't serve those mushrooms! Did the chef not taste them? Way, way too salty. Embarrassing. Overall: excellent meal, chill patio atmosphere, gracious host/server (i imagine thats a two person job regularly, we reserved a table on Patrick Bateman time on a Sunday), decadent deviled ages, perfectly executed beef wellington, perfect prime filet (sauce could have been warmed up), killer carrot cake desert. Top stuff, really. I had a green tea. The patio was noisy but what do you expect? DFW traffic is part of life. I'd rather leave the patio open and live with the noise, but it would bother many people. You gotta work with what property you have. A little pricey but lets all blame the Democrats! Seriously though, the mushrooms can't leave the kitchen like that. Good God. It's like having your friends and family over to see your new house and you didn't scoop up the dog crap in the kitchen. "Do you think they'll notice?" That's too bad, because I really like what you're doing. If the menu is trying to do too much, that's ok by me. Tycoon is great! We had a group come for dinner and everything was fantastic. I had the ahi tuna tacos, which were nothing short of amazing. I also had the filet, lobster truffle Mac and cheese, duck fat potatoes and Brussels sprouts. The filet was seasoned to perfection, it was great! My favorite side was the lobster truffle Mac and cheese. This was truly fantastic! I wasn't a huge fan of the Brussels and potatoes, but they weren't necessarily bad - just not on the top of my list. They were overflowing with filling and stacked to the ceiling. We had a ceasar salad as well. It was okay. The dressing was lacking a bit in flavor and there were only 3 croutons. We had the Thai chili Brussel sprouts, taste was amazing! Didn't enjoy all the spicy peppers, would rather more sprouts. Doesn't at all effect the amazing taste. We then opted for the Cesar Salad, perfect taste, salad was a little on the smaller side. My wife had the "Boss" cocktail, and loved it! The ginger in the cocktail was the perfect amount. We then moved into splitting a burger (I know:)) and I can say this is a top 5 hamburgers of my life! Super juicy, duck egg was a nice touch, mounds and mounds of flavor! The potato's that are paired with it weren't great. They were too big of chunks which made them hard as they weren't cooked all the way. Let's start with the good. The interior of Tycoon is nice. It has a chill, upscale vibe. Cocktails were good. The wine list is also strong but the prices are about 25% more than similar restaurants. They were also out of the first bottle we ordered and the menu (which is on an iPad) was not updated. Appetizers were okay. We liked the crab dip and the ahi tacos. The deviled eggs were just okay. The mains were disappointing. Best thing by far were the fries that came with the steak frites. The burger was also pretty good. The ribeye and sea bass were forgettable. Although the dining room is fairly small, service was slow. Somehow our server has trouble keeping up. Once we ordered the kitchen was pretty quick. We ended up coming here for date night on a Saturday and overall loved our experience! First of all, I loved that the inside part of the restaurant is on the smaller and not too large (and huge brownie points for complimentary valet!). My husband and I both ordered cocktails to start which were great. For appetizer we ordered the Charcuterie & Burrata board and literally EVERYTHING on the board was SO GOOD. It also comes out looking so nice and fancy with the Prosciutto displayed so nicely. It also has cheeses, an amazing spicy mustard and the absolute best bread! It was toasted so perfectly and had the perfect amount of butter and garlic. I will have to get this appetizer every time! For dinner my husband and I both ordered Filet Mignon (his 8 oz, mine 5 oz) with the Au Poivre crust and then a side of Thai Chili Brussel Sprouts and Rosemary Duck Fat Potatoes. The only downside here is that the pepper crust on the Filet had extremely coarse pieces of pepper which made it difficult to eat and just made it feel like you were eating straight pepper. Also my Filet was slightly over cooked (I imagine it's not easy to get a small steak as medium rare) but not enough to send it back. Now the potatoes were a huge winner, I could've sat down with just a bowl of those and been so happy! Also loved the sweet and the heat from the Brussel Sprouts! For dessert we got the Chocolate Cake and Vanilla ice cream! Our ice cream came out pretty melted BUT the manager came by and swapped it out for us and also comped it, which was so nice!! The wine list is admirable but the food is awesome! Not a big deviled egg fan but I get theirs everytime! I placed a deposit to reserve a room for private dining. A week later I took my family to try out the food and drinks. The place has a cool feel and the room was neat, but the food and drinks was not that good. It was ok at best, and for the price I expected it to be good. The service was good, no complaints there. We'll after experiencing the food and drinks, I couldn't bring my party of 24 here to celebrate with food and drinks. I emailed Chellsey Wells the general manager to cancel my reservation and asked for a refund. Well since we were in the 30 day window, I reserved the room on 10/24 for 12/06 and canceled 11/12, I couldn't get my deposit back. OK, understandable, so I asked if there's anything else we could do with my deposit, maybe a gift card I could give away, since I will never reserve a room for private dining, she just stopped replying. Thanks Chellsey. So before you waste your money, before you reserve a room for private dining, try the food and drinks first. read more

We just left from lunch, and had a horrible experience. The food was good, and we were stating how we should come back. We ordered tea to drink and it was in a cocktail style glass with so much ice that it was mounding outside the glass. I had to sip it down to get my straw in. My husband ordered a second glass, and I'm glad I did not. The irritation came when learning they charge per glass of unsweetened tea! The wait person only came to table to take our order and deliver food. After we finished, we sat there for almost 20 minutes waiting on our check. They didn't come back. There was a lady (possible manager) sitting on her computer at the bar. We finally got up to leave, and that's when she took her eyes away to tell the waiter. So the inattentive waitstaff and charging by glass of tea is not worth coming here. Just keep driving by it and head to Bob's or Perry's. read more
