Ordered 4 dim sum baskets for $26.00, and it wasnt the best or even close to what I expected. Small pieces for shrimp dumpling at $5.50, and taste isnt good either. Do not waste your time here for hong Kong dimsum. Go other places for dim sum. The quality and price at this place have not been good. U-Choice In is the place to go for a quick bite of Chinese food. There are many options available such as bbq pork, roast duck and a variety of dim sum. The roast pork skin is crispy and not too fatty. I love their chow fun and they even have porridge with the Chinese donut to go with it. The baked manapua, imo, was once the best on island. Huge, soft, chewy, favorful. I strived to make my own, but always ended up with small little buns, neither soft, chewy, or flavorful. These guys had the magic touch. Finally made the trek back with only one thing in mind...those magically manapua. I don't recall the price...seemed more expensive, but what isn't. So what...I got my favorite manapua. Opened the bag at home...WTH happened!? Worst looking manapua I've ever encountered!!! Half-sized little balls of dough. Did I ask for the shrunken manapua? Came around 1p on a Sunday and many dim sum items weren't available. Also wasn't clear if they were out of char siu but it wasn't visible as it is in many photos. Pros - steamed pork buns (manapua) was great! Very soft and a great amount of meat, which was really tender. The wonton soup was great with very moist dumplings! Appreciated that they separated the broth from the filing. Cons - The hot bar doesn't look super appetizing but we got, what looked like char siu, but it was more of boiled pork then covered in the sweet red sauce. It was 80% fat and 20% meat so a lot got thrown away. Chow mein was basically soy noodles, very little vegetables and had a bit of a soap taste. Lastly the ginger chicken was fine. Wow! So impressed! This local eatery, located in the Don Quijote food court, Honolulu location, has just implemented a dimsum menu...and Wowza!!! I used to venture to Ctown for mediocre dimsum.. this one is a block away and so superior! Granted, I've only had a couple orders so far, (just me) it was so fresh, with lovely, lively greens in the shrimp har gow. The Taro puff croquet was superb with a water chesnut crunch to boot! Delicious!!!! Take out only, but there are benches outside to enjoy! You definitely do not want to go far to eat these delicious morsels of goodness. A bit pricey starting at $5.50 per order, but quality is worth it. (Remember that surprise crunch of water chesnut in the taro puff)? Oh, yum! They close early, around 5-5:30 pm, as is true for any dimsum place. They are new to serving dimsum, but knocking it out of the ballpark! They also have all the steamed manapua or baked style, plus the beautiful Chinese meats... Roasted pork, chinese duck, chicken and the yummy char siu!! Whoo-hoo,,! Food isn't bad for price as a quick snack, since it is pretty close to my office. I usually eat 3 pork hash ($1.05 each), but was hungrier so ordered wor gau gee mein. Had 6 gau gee (looked like won tun and till this day, I still don't understand the distinction between the two), which tasted OK. Highlight was 4 thick slices of char siu - very good. Did I mention they were thick? Noodles OK, broth meh. 2 shrimp which tasted shrimpy. 2 broccoli florets tasted like broccoli. Coupla 3 pieces of leafy greens. I used to work at the pan am building and my husband was a vendor for don-q uses so we'd often meet there for lunch and this place was our favorite spot to eat at. We moved off island and are visiting so we had to stop by here at least one time before leaving again. And oh the disappointment we had after eating, so unsatisfied. First off when we got in, we were rushed - lady behind the counter yelling for me to hurry up and order when I just got there. Then I said large coke and she was like, "can or fountain" and I was like, "fountain" and she yells "WHAT SIZE!!! Like she's frustrated?! Ma'am. I told you LARGE COKE from the beginning. Super unorganized, you order on one side and then cut through other people ordering and pay there?! Meh, 1/5. We should've kept our $29 and gone to the order at yummys. Went before 9 am today and ordered duck noodle soup with wontons, baked char siu manapua, pork hash and coconut sesame ball. I was overcharged, receipt not itemized and when I got home the manapua was stale, from yesterday, not the steaming ones I saw sitting out, but the one under the light, and the duck noodle soup was tasteless, broth was too light in color and the duck was not fresh either. So my recommendation to go early can backfire and you will get old stuff. The pork hash was good, but I thought I was going to get an order but there was just one lonely one sitting in a bag, leaking all over the rest. For Duck Noodle soup, Asian Mix on Beretania is much much tastier and better duck overall. read more

I've been stopping by here for a snack when I'm not hungry enough for a meal yet I want to put something in my stomach. This is actually close to my house and I've been coming here for about 18 years. While I can't say much for their plate lunches, I really like their dim sum. I was running around town today and didn't have time to stop for lunch, so before my shopping at Don Quijote, I popped in here for 2 pork hash and 1 pork su so. For 3.61, I'm full and ready to run the test of my errands. Stop by for the dim sum. It's a bit on the salty side, but the dim sum is tasty and satisfying. read more

So there's a random Chinese restaurant in front of donkis. Honestly I've never ventured here until recently since we moved to the pan am office. One of our old coworkers picked up some lunch from here. Did you know their roast pork is soft and crispy? It's pretty good here and I don't really like roast pork either. They also have roast duck and cold ginger chicken too which is great cause I don't need to go all the way to Chinatown to get these items. They also have a bunch of hot foods and manapuas out on the line .. my favorite is the chow fun but it is on the oily side... but then again it is Chinese food. Credit cards are accepted.. so it can be dangerous ordering when you're really hungry and haven't eaten yet. After 6p they offer a small discount of like 10% which isn't all that much. My bad! U-choice In is a popular casual Chinese restaurant serving all kinds of dim sum, manapuas, classic sweets, noodles, and plates of ready made choices! Choices vary from kau yuk, bitter melon, tofu, spring rolls, beef broccoli, stirfrys, etc. I come here for the char sui. It's my favorite. I love the carmelized just sweet enough meat! Especially the crispy charred outside. So good. They sell duck, chicken and roast pork as well! This place gets busy... be prepared as they can sell out of popular items, especially during holidays or weekends. I tend to get to the counter of food later in the day, so there's usually less plate options. I stick to the meats and dim sum. I really like the people working here. A little direct and sometimes blatantly frustrated with customers but they have always been nice to my family! So that's my four stars! By no means gourmet Chinese food, but this restaurant does have many merits. First of all, most of their plates run for $10 or less and massive. You have many choices from noodles, chow funn, egg flower soup, and all decent too. Their best deal is the manapua, it's big, the size of a basketball player's hand with generous char siu filling. It's slightly more for the baked version vs. steamed version, but about a $1 each. Speaking of which, their char siu is legit. It's soft, moist, lean, and well marinated before roasting. The exterior is caramelized and a perfect roast. This stuff is good, comparable to high end Chinese restaurants which you will pay double. read more

Their Baked char siu manapua is delicious . The employees are not native english speakers but they can still understand. Just tell them what you want and stand in anywhere on their counters-it won't matter to them, based on my experience today- not on my assumption. Hands down ... my favorite steamed char siu bao (manapua) and pork hash. I also order ... if I'm in the mood ... their char siu and roast pork. These are also on my "favorite" short list. The chow mein is ok but I like chow mein that has that smoky taste which was not present with this dish. Friendly and efficient service. P/S. They have Peking duck ... half or whole but you need to order ahead of time ... I think a day before. Comes with the buns, sauce and scallions. U-Choice In, conveniently located with lots of parking at the Kaheka Street Don Quijote, has one of the best steamed char siu manapuas. Their manapua is warm and soft, filled with lots of delicious char sui fillings. Their rice cake is super ono, too. And the roast pork and char siu is one of best in town. I live in Mililani, but travel to town once a week just to pick up some of their great dim sum. The only disappointing item, in my opinion, is their Mai Tai Siu (Choy Suey Cake). The outer shell is somewhat soggy and tastes under baked. Other than that, it is a go to place for dim sum, now that Char Hung Sut is sadly no longer around. read more

I was hungry when I walked by U Choice. I checked out the reviews and decided to give them a try. The 1 choice plate lunch was $7.95 and for $1 not you get a second choice... no brained, right?? I was craving Kau yuk so that was my first choice with chow mein... second choice needed to have veggies so I got the mustard cabbage with pork. I wanted to taste the sin Choi so I asked the lady to put a little piece in my plate and she did I paid and had her put the change in the tip jar. That seemed to make her very happy. I sat down to eat and as you can see, there was plenty to eat. The Kau yuk was actually quite lean and tasty, noodles must have been there for a while because there were some pretty hard noodles in there . It was kind of dry but, ok. The mustard cabbage dish was ok, kind of bland with the roast pork... too much pork. I tried the little leaf of sin Choy was tasty but really tough. People were nice and I was full..couldn't possibly eat it all. Ended up tossing the rest. Would consider trying the duck and Char siu sometime. read more

I go to U Choice for one thing, possibly 2 things and they are 1) dim sum pork hash and half moon 2) ginger chicken During my most recent visit, I ventured beyond choice 1 and 2. I had their sweet sour spare ribs and black bean chicken (2 choice plate) I was pleasantly surprised with the texture and taste of the sweet sour spareribs-tender. The best part of my visit was their new counter service employees. I got this guy who packed my pork hash and half moon in separate bags, then put it in a box. Unlike the old days where they throw everything into the same box all squished with each other. That was impressive. My 2 course selection was neatly plated.... They've moved up a knotch in my eyes. But stay tuned, I will try them again soon just to make sure it was not some daily fluke. read more

Ugh. I haven't been to U-choice in years, but did takeout on July 3, 2020. They must have changed owners or something because service was terrible. Food tasted about the same, but the workers don't communicate with each other. We were waiting for our purser, which we called in 2 hours in advance. They didn't start assembling the food till we paid. We waited about 15 minutes for them to get the lunch order for the shop ready. In that 15 minutes we watched some homeless guy walk in and tweak out and the young girl behind the counter must have shut down or something because she charged the guy behind me $20 for a plate lunch and 1 crispy gaugee. We stopped by to pick up char siu bao and a few other items on a Saturday mid-morning after shopping at DQ. We have ordered from U-choice previously but this experience was not good. I called in so the service was fast. However, once we got home to enjoy lunch, it was a huge disappointment. The char siu bao (3 of them) were all dry and hard. I felt like we purchased OLD food. Went there to buy manapua, pork hash and char siu. I've been coming here for over 10 years. The manapua has gotten better.....taste is good and the filling is not red. They might be doing away with the red food coloring. It looks odd but at least it tastes good. The pork hash has gone down in taste. Something is wrong because it's seems like they changed the recipe. Very mild tasting so I won't be buying that anymore. I have a secret......7-11 has great pork hash. Not sure who makes it for them but that's how a good pork hash should taste. Also be careful when ordering. Make sure you speak carefully otherwise your Oder will get messed up. We came here to try the cha siu bao and chow fun. The filling in the baos was a little sparse compared to Char Hung Sut. But the flavor was every bit as good. The chow fun was great, typical Hawaii style which I love. The flavoring was not overpowering and went well with hot mustard. Food was ok. The pork hash has chestnuts. The pork hash flavor, pi and texture were meh, nothing exciting. The pork hash is $1.05 a piece. Not worth it. The pork hash pi was a tad bit rubbery. The won ton does have shrimp. The taste was ok. I like the thin pi on the won ton. I ordered a special that is called Won ton with fish ball in soup with noodle or funn. I chose funn. The fish balls were salty. The soup also includes choy sum and char siu. I don't know if I'll return due to mediocre taste and quality. Service was great though. Please fix air conditioning or turn it cooler. I was sweating in there. Maybe next time I 'll try the entrees instead. read more
