I needed a van and I was so happy to have it cause I needed to haul a bunch of stuff home from shopping. Good van. Could be cleaned better on the inside but can't expect too much for $20 a day. Worst moving company ever! I usually don't leave negative reviews cause I'm normally a very positive person but i have got to get word out about this corrupt company. First of all a little background. My wife booked a Ubox way back in July to plan for our move on September 17 to Hawaii. The agent on the phone told us they would drop off a box on August 29 in order for shipment to arrive on September 17. My wife was concerned that if we loaded the box on Aug 29, that it wouldn't be there on time. The agent assured her multiple times, sent her a confirmation email and everything that the shipment would arrive by September 17. Ok cool. August 28 comes and we make plans for the shipping box to arrive. At that point we are notified that our shipment will not be in port in Hawaii until Oct 16- one whole month later. What does U-Haul do? Not a freakin thing! We call and tell them the dilemma and after about 1 hour on the phone between multiple agents, managers, and offices they say in so many words that we have to bend over and take it up the tailpipe. Well we're out of time so what can we do now? Nothing. So we have to go with U-Haul. They drop it off and we load it and they pick it up the next day. At this point we are already making arrangements to not have our stuff for a whole month. Definitely not ideal. Skip forward to Sept 25. My wife gets an email from U-Haul stating the box came in earlier than expected. We make arrangements well in advance to pick it up on Sept. 29th at 9am. We show up and there's 2 people running the whole show. We wait for 3 hours for our box because apparently nobody knew it was there and the computers were down and the forklift wasn't working, blah blah blah... um, so what? Not my problem. The reservations were made far enough in advance that this shouldn't have been an issue. All the same, I kept my cool despite this frustrating situation. To top off the cake when we later returned our Ubox after unloading it that same day (which I half expected it to be the wrong one) along with the truck we rented, there was nobody to help me check it in... I had to literally interrupt and flag somebody down to get any attention after waiting half an hour... there wasn't even a line...And one guy was even condescending and disrespectful when I mentioned something in the contract I wasn't previously aware of. I couldn't believe it! I remember U-Haul as a kid and it was a strong, reputable company. This kind of BS and extremely poor customer service should not exist with any such company. I cannot overstate my disappointment and I regrettably will never do business with any U-Haul again. read more

I recently made a reservation at the U-Haul Center of Hawaii at 2722 Kilihau St. and I am very disappointed by my experience. It was probably the worst experience not just with U-Haul, but possibly ever. Upon arrival no one greeted me or even bothered to look up at me. There were two Caucasian men behind the counter, I believe their names were Virgil and Mark (based on overhearing a conversation and a name tag). Neither one of them said anything instead they just kept on working on what whatever they were doing. Finally after probably 3-4 minutes of standing there feeling stupid one of them looked up and asked what I wanted. I told them I had a reservation. I gave them my name and Mark told me they didn't have any trucks available at the moment and they also notified me that I was late in picking up the truck. Now, I will admit that I was a few hours late because I had a hard time finding a ride to the shop. Mark told me that my reservation had been canceled because I did not come on time. I asked him why no one called me to ask if I still needed the truck and what the grace period was. While I was asking, Mark changed his tune and told me that the real reason they didn't have a truck available is because someone hadn't returned it when they should have, not because my reservations had been canceled and they gave away my truck. Mark then informed me that his shift was over and he was going home. He handed me over to a younger Filipino man (whose name I didn't get) instead of finding a resolution to my situation. This young Filipino man told me there were no trucks available and I was out of luck. I told him that that's not really a solution as I did have a reservation. At this point I was a little perturbed. He just kept saying there was nothing he could do. He did offer me a cargo van, but I needed to move some big things and I explained that a cargo van would not do me much good. He asked if I wanted to call around to other storage places to see if they had any trucks available. I told him that he should call because it wasn't my fault that there were no trucks available. I told him to go ahead and try to find me a truck, but I would need a ride to wherever he was calling as I got dropped off since I had assumed that I would be driving a truck off the lot. I said I could take a cab if U-Haul was willing to reimburse me. He said they don't do that and if I could find my own ride. I explained to him that it's the middle of the day on a Friday and I had a hard enough time finding a ride down there. I was stuck at U-Haul unless I took a truck off the lot or I got a ride home. To his credit he did call around but he couldn't find anything available. We were stuck at square one again. At this point I tried to call some of my friends to see if anyone had a big truck I could borrow or if I could get a ride home since I felt that the customer service was basically useless. While I was outside, by some miracle, someone did return a truck and I was able to get the truck I needed. Luckily I stuck around for over an hour because if I had left when they told me nothing was available I would have definitely missed this vehicle. Overall, this was an absolutely terrible experience from the time I walked in to the time I left. The employees really made me feel like I didn't exist by not greeting me or even acknowledging me. If they had just said, "Hi" or even an "I'll be with you in a second" it would have started everything on a completely different tenor. Then blaming me and holding a policy over my head which I was unaware of also didn't help. Then they changed their story and said I wasn't my fault it was someone else's fault also made me feel like they didn't care or try to take any responsibility. The last straw though was probably when the young Filipino man wanted me to call around or find my way home. I definitely would not recommend this U-Haul to anyone ever. read more

Moving can be a hassle especially if you do not have the right vehicle to help move all your furniture & goodies. Uhaul truck rental can save the day! I reserved my truck online & when I went in to pick it up it was prepped & ready. The worker went over the contract with me & next thing I did a walk-through of the truck to make sure there was dents/scratches there prior to me using it. After that I was given the keys & out the door. My process of getting a rental truck went smooth. Same with returning the truck as well. Super fast & some from one of them portable iPhones converted into a scanner thing. I rented a pick-up truck & my grand total came to less than $50 for 2 hours. You are charged for the use of the truck + $0.79 per mile. You are responsible to fill the gas tank. And there are extra goodies like protection for the rental if you want it for $10. Good thing about this place, no car insurance is needed to show when renting a truck. read more

My review is for the hitch installation services. My sister bought my hitch from this location and I thought my boyfriend could install it. We later decided we should get it professionally installed on my CT200h. I called and was able to make my appointment the same day, which was great! Their shop was a little hard to find, but that's because I'm totally unfamiliar with the area. They set up my hitch in about 30 minutes and I proceeded to the register. This is where I had my guard up. He rung me up and said he would only charge me for the labor (because I seem like a nice lady and I bought the hitch with U-Haul). I thought, what else would you charge me for other than the labor? I bought the $5 insurance because, well, why wouldn't you?! It covers rust and hitch damage, and they'll replace it! Anyway, he said the total with the insurance would be about $70. I was drawn back by that because when I ordered my hitch online (with in-store pickup), the hitch installation price said $32.50 and it even gave a hitch installation online discount of $10.00 (I didn't nag about this because I didn't install it right away, but that shouldn't really matter). I even talked to a U-Haul representative online asking them about prices and he said it would be about $60, I told him about the $32.50 and he said it would cost $60 if it took an hour, $30 if it took 30 minutes. 1) So I told the guy that rang me up all this and he said, "Oh, really? Okay I can do that for you". I actually said $34, but he corrected me and said it was $32. I dont know if that was just the company trying to make an extra few bucks, or the worker trying to get more money because I was a girl that doesn't know about these kinds of stuff, or if he really thought he was hooking me up with a great deal. 2) There was a different man that drove my car up and down the ramp. After he drove my car down I was told to go pay, but HE LEFT MY KEY IN THE CAR. Maybe I'm over reacting but I feel that lacks professionalism to not hand the key back over to the owner. After I was checked out I thought I would go out and he would give my key but I looked inside, my windows were rolled halfway down and there is my key on the passenger seat. 3) Also, while I was getting rung up, the phone kept ringing and ringing and no one would answer it. There was a woman and another man in the room and they just let it ring. I'm not sure if only the manager answers the phone or what, but that was just an odd sight. I was so happy with the speedy installation of my hitch, but these issues just threw me off. Three stars is good enough. Like with any place, be sure to do your research because I'm glad I did. This was my second time using a u-haul service, and this was my experience. I called Michael the day before who ended up telling me helpful information over the phone. My significant other and I, headed to the lot the next day. Firstly, I wanted to complete the express check-in prompt that the email, I received had advertised, though I stumbled upon an issue. Neither the email, nor the link, specifically stated my registered cargo delivery van in any way. Though the link, prompted me to take pictures of the "rented vehicle". Navigating through the website, led me to re-schedule another vehicle. I ran into Michael, whom helped me over the phone, and he was unhelpful when I asked about how to use express check in. Asking to see my phone, scrolling up and down on my phone opened to the website's page, then opened another page by clicking on a link, that didn't lead me any closer to figuring out how to use express check-in and then telling me he had to go help more people in the store. I decided to go into the store, without having completed the express check-in. I spoke with Felicia, whom was very knowledgeable and friendly, and she had restated my frustrations about the express check-in. She had stated that there is normally a "convert to 24/7" button that should have been on the site, though that wasn't the case. Ultimately, she suggested that writing a review could help remedy that. Felicia was of great help, throughout the checking in/out process too. After minutes of not being able to find the registered cargo van, Felicia came out to help and found the van in under 5 minutes. She helped with the picture process, we took pictures of our own and then we headed out to use the cargo van. After returning, and getting help from another great staff, Arlinda. She inspected the vehicle, though we realized that we hadn't put gas in the cargo van. Arlinda was there to help, giving us directions to the Texaco nearby. We got back and Felicia was there to help us make it through the check-out process. She gave use the total cost, and bid us farewell. Tl&DR Overall, I would like to be able to use express check-in for the next time I head to uhaul. Nonetheless, it was great service and would recommend the U-Haul for the great customer service. read more

I called this store on a Saturday and made a reservation for the following Monday. The gentleman I spoke with was very nice and making the reservation was easy. Once we arrived, we parked in the lot to get our truck. Everything went very smooth. We parked our car on the side of the street. Since it was Sunday, there was ample parking. Our truck was very clean, keys were inside, and there weren't too m any things not already marked on our paperwork. We ran our errands, added a little gas, and dropped the truck back off. I was moving a elliptical I just bought. So I ranged to rent a truck for the move. At the store I bought 2 dollies so I could move the elliptical up and down the truck, and maybe later on, round the house in the future. When take the elliptical off the truck one of the wheel snapped off. I struggled to get the elliptical into the house with a missing wheel. I went back to the company and they told me the manager is not here try again tomorrow. So I had to go back again the next day just for the assistant manager to tell me "you used it, so no refunds or replacements." It didn't even last one move. He just look and said too bad. On top of that the truck I drove was so shaky and loud. While driving it sounded like the windows were all the way open (which it wasn't) and the truck was going to fall apart. Needed a trailer hitch for my BMW X5 and lo and behold! this U-Haul dealership had them in stock! Unfortunately the trailer hitch guy wasn't in the day of my appointment but they had it ready by the next day. They even had a decent bike rack so for me a 1 stop shop. When I called UHaul for a quote today, the guy on the phone didn't seem helpful. After getting a quote from him he was trying to rush me and reserve a truck today. I told him that I would need to talk to my boyfriend and I'll call you back and he explain to me that they can reserve it for free and hold it with a credit card and we won't charge you and I kept telling him I need to talk to my boyfriend and I'll call you back and the next thing I notice he hung up the phone on me. I thought that was a rude customer service. Terrible customer service. I called back asking to speak to a manager and the general manager wasn't there. I do not recommend this place for anyone looking to rent a vehicle. We rented a pickup truck for just one day and after our first stop, and we never left the car at all yet...we noticed that the front bumper end was hanging off. We had not hit anything along the way, so we knew this wasn't anything that we had done and must have just slowly come off from simply driving down the road. We did push the bumper end back in to place so it wouldn't fly off and cause more damage. Upon our arrival back at the Uhaul, the attendants questioned the damage and we explained what had happened and that we were at no fault. The mechanic's informed us that this exact piece had just been fixed the prior day, which seems too much like a coincidence in our eyes. The U-Haul Employees were not able to show us a photo of the truck that proved they had successfully repaired the damage to this exact piece of the truck the morning we rented. When they tried to show us "proof" that the piece had be repaired correctly, the photo only showed the length of the truck which stopped short right before the front tire, therefore the bumper-end was not visible. Yet, if the piece was just repaired CORRECTLY we assumed that they would have a proper photo of that repairment. We feel we are at NO fault for this damage that clearly happened prior to our rental and was obviously not repaired correctly. read more

I had to drive and make the guy pay attention. Then they tried scamming my friend into more money saying she is going to use more than 75 miles. She only used 50 miles!!!! Good customer service from the workers. Back in November 2014, I needed a moving truck. As with all vehicle rentals, my moving truck was beat up but worked well. Before returning, I put more gas in than I started out with. Not sure if I get store credit or some kind of credit. If not, then I'll lose out. I tried calling the manager, "Rodney," but he didn't answer. Meanwhile, the friends that helped me move are having lunch at my expense. So I had to leave. I left several messages on the manager's office phone and business cellphone. He didn't return my call. So much for being a returning customer. This place lost my business. I don't recommend this place for the simple fact that the manager doesn't provide customer service -- only his employees do that. read more

Not a very pleasant experience. I reserved my truck to be picked up at 6 pm. I get there at 5:50 pm and the store was closed. I made the reservations online. When I arrived at the location, I found out that the working hours are not the same everyday and they differs from those posted on the U-Haul website and on this website as well. That is just unacceptable. **I recommend that the working hours be updated through all means and also, fixing working ours to be the same every day except for Sundays would be nice. read more

I wish I could give this place less stars, but it's not possible. First of all our reserved van was given away to a friend of a worker, I think the employees name was Erlinda. Then not only did this friend bring the van back late, the van reeked of alcohol. Also she brought the van back with less gas, and she refused to pay for it! So not only did she get away with not paying for the gas bill, but we had to pay $50 dollars for her gas! This was incredibly bullshit and the fact that this lady able to get away with this is unacceptable. Also we didn't get any discount or compensation at all. read more

This is my go-to location for storage and truck rentals. I've had some belongings stored here for four years now and it's been clean, convenient and fairly hassle-free. The only issue I've really had is when calling in to make a payment - I'd rather speak to a local rep., but most times I get sent to a mainland rep via the automated service. Truck rentals are affordable and are provided in good condition so you're not worrying if the truck will make it up the hill to your house. All in all, a good place to rent. read more

I reserved a 10' truck (through your website) at U-Haul Moving & Storage of Honolulu on June 04, for a June 05 pickup. I then received an email about self-service pickup. When I arrived at the store, the self-service link would not work, so the clerk (Erlinda) said she could process it at the counter. When she took my driver's license, she then asked for 3 phone numbers for references. First, I have NEVER had to produce references when renting through U-Haul before, second, I just moved to Hawaii and only had numbers for my wife and teenage daughter. When I explained that I didn't have 3 numbers to provide (and questioned the reason), I was pressed for 3 numbers or they "wouldn't be able to rent to me". I asked for a manager at that point. After 30 minutes of waiting, I asked again for a manager (Rodney) and found out he was right there the whole time, and he didn't even acknowledge my request to speak with him. I clarified with him that he was requesting a phone number for a female minor, he told me that he "didn't care, and it didn't even have to be someone from this country". Again, never have been demanded I provide references when renting from Uhaul. All my personal data (DL, CC #, etc) was in the system when I made the reservation, and feel references were ONLY requested when the clerk looked at my license and saw that it was NOT a Hawaiian license. I am active duty service member, so it is common to not have a local license. Use other resources for your moving needs. read more

I was in a rush to move some big items such as my bed and tv. The weather was bad so I didn't want to get my mattress wet so I figure I would rent a U-Haul to transport all my things safely without the rain getting to it. I call because I've never rented a u hail before and the worker was very friendly and helpful. I informed her my bed size and other items I would need moved, she suggested the 10ft truck would be perfect! I went down to the U-Haul place and filled out the contract, less than 10 minutes I was in a truck. Everything fit perfectly. I returned it with the same gas amount I left with. This was so last minute, I was thankful they let me rent a truck let alone have one available same day. The pricing was ok, but I looked up other companies later being curious and the prices for U-Haul is pretty high. Probably will look for better rates next time but U-Hauls customer service was great! read more

We're a military family and we move all of the time. This place has by far the worst customer service I've ever dealt with. I called and spoke to the representative on site. I told her that I was moving furniture and I asked for a 10ft truck and a dolly. She booked everything, and I thought everything was fine. BOY WAS I WRONG. My husband picked the truck up the following day. They gave him the dolly and sent him on his way. He gets to the house and we realize the truck DOESN'T HAVE A RAMP. Why would you give someone a truck and dolly without telling them the truck doesn't have a ramp when you know they're moving large heavy objects?! I called Uhaul and they apologized for not telling me that their 10ft trucks don't have ramps, and sent me over to customer service. The customer service representative was completely UNHELPFUL. He was condescending and completely incompetent. He asked me how were they supposed to know I needed a ramp or that the 10ft trucks didn't have one?! I DON'T WORK AT UHAUL. This is your job, if you don't know anything about the trucks you shouldn't be working there. Wouldnt you be upset if you took your car to the shop to be serviced and none of the mechanics knew how to work on cars? Basic critical thinking would've told an intelligent person that they should suggest a bigger size truck to accommodate the load. He said I could bring the truck back, but I'd have to pay for milage for the 10ft truck and the 15ft truck when I return it. It's a total SCAM! At that point, I asked to speak to a manager, and he said he'd give me another number to call but it was the tone off voice that set me off. I hung up on him. COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS. read more

My husband and I rented a 20ft uhaul on November 15th for a move across island. When we went to pick up, the person that was "helping" us swiped my card and then told me it didn't go through, he swiped my card and said that he was having trouble with the system. We switched to another terminal and a woman swiped it a 3rd time and said it was finally processed. She even assured me that I would only be charged once. When they pulled the uhaul up the guy said the check engine light was on but it was "no big deal" . I checked my account and sure enough I was charged $130.31 three times. It's now been 4 days and the charge is still processing and uhaul has refused to send my bank the form they need to release the funds. This process has been a nightmare, they stole our money and are now basically holding it hostage. 0/10 would not recommend. ***Still waiting on the return of 2 of the charges, but I was contacted and told that the 3rd charge will be refunded as well. This location has everything! We had to move on a weekend so we knew we needed to make a reservation early since this location is always busy on weekends. We reserved a truck 2 weeks before we had to move. Got to order boxes online and pick them up when we got the truck. Once we got there the staff was amazing. Rodney the GM was able to get us taken care of at the counter in a timely manor. Two words EXPRESS CHECK-IN. It is a must if you rent on the weekends. Rodney also told us about the amazing climate controlled storage units. He also let us know that they sold propane. That perfect since we grill all the time. Overall this location is great. And the amazing Aloha spirit Rodney provides is awesome. I will be using this location again for sure. read more

If I had the chance to give 0 stars, I would. Absolute no communication within the associates and by far the worst customer service. They are truly untrained to handle any situation. I've made my reservation for a 15 passenger seat van 3 weeks in advanced at 9AM but tell me why when arriving there I was told the reservation van was accidentally given away to another customer? Ridiculous! Patiently, I found a way to understand as they had told me to return back at 11:30AM because there will be a new van available. Coming in at 11:30AM, we waited 2 1/2 more hours due to a customer who was late & inconsiderate, disobeying policies that REQUIRED fees such as a late fee and bringing the van with a fuel level below 3/4. Then finally someone was able to assist us, no apology was given for the wait. Instead we were told, "were short staffed." NO. If YOU had the curtsey to engage with your customers as you're supposed to because it is the career YOU choose, you would've realized WHO you were exactly speaking to and SCREWING over. We watch the lady break policy and walk away with no charge and paid the same as her but faced and dealt with the consequences of having a nice PLANNED family day be ruined. We have had our stuff stored there for almost 6 months and TWICE their system has messed up payments. The first time they kept calling to say we were behind a payment and after i made another payment they tell me that I had actually paid that month. They then asked if I wanted to just put the extra payment towards the next month and I said fine. This second time we got charged double plus a late fee and they asked the same question! When we told them no the manager had an attitude basically saying it was our banks fault. FOUR times we had to the store and he wouldnt even acknowledge us, which isnt surprising from the reviews ive read about him on Yelp. The nice lady behind the counter was asking for his attention over and over as he kept helping all the other customers in line..really..he could of switched places with her..after all the GENERAL MANAGER should handle these issues. Supposedly he refunded our money today and charged us again for the correct amount. Honestly, we should have gotten that money back and not had to pay anything for this month with this huge inconvenience. I do not recommend this Uhaul to anyone on the island for storage. read more

Reserved a cargo van the day before. I was told they still had vans available. Went in to pick it up.. The guy helping me was eating cheese cracker sandwiches while talking to me. Had crumbs on his mouth and all over the desk. He told me sorry they overbooked and don't have a van. I needed the van for an event for my wife's business. He wanted to give me a truck and it was pouring outside. Terrible business. Wouldn't you have known ahead of time through simple addition if you had enough vans for the clients that day. You could at least call people to let them know instead of wasting their time and letting them come down there for nothing. I ended up calling United Rental and they rented me a van and had way better service. And they didn't talk with crackers in their mouth. read more
