Shitty customer service. They don't answer the phone. I spent 30 minutes on hold to get an answering service in Atlanta. I drove there to see if my ordered part came in. When I arrived the counter help was a bored general manager. Nobody in the store. Nobody on the phone. I dialed the number and it never rang. Went straight to an answering service. Dude said he was understaffed and too busy to answer the phone. Yet he was there alone in a very quiet and un-busy Store. Fire lazy ass "customer support" people and hire someone who wants to work. Don't make a reservation to move your belongings OUT OF STATE and expect to have the trailer you RESERVED to be there when you go to pick it up. Because apparently if someone eelse physically shows up and says they need that trailer they just give it to them!!!! Ok. A U-Haul business is pretty much the same but it comes down to the employees working there, management , and friendliness. Dylan the GM is awesome. We had issues with a u-haul hitch that was causing major electrical issues on our 2017 Subaru . So of course the Subaru dealership maintenance department was the typical condescending attitude. We got to the U-Haul place and Dylan listened, read the report from the Subaru maint jerks, walked down a block to get the car from my wife and took care of it. Normally companies get defensive with stuff like this be he was cool. Took care of the issue, walked us through what he did. Showed us what was wrong, actually replaced some stuff Subaru took off and was nice about the whole thing. There are closer U hauls to where we live but we want Dylan to work on the warranty replacement items so we're more than happy to drive farther to come back. It's a typical Uhaul location. One of the great things I like about using Uhaul is locations everywhere. I was able to pick up my truck in Santa Ana and drop off here in Oceanside. The gentlemen that help me check I the rental were pleasant and got me in and out in no time. I have also had to use this location for work when replacing tow hitches. They were easy to help out and even picked up the hitch from a different location so I could pick it up here. Very easy to deal with. read more

I had to rent a 15' truck for my move last minute, and Ryan was accommodating, friendly, and professional. Even though I didn't have a reservation, he went above and beyond to get me the exact sized truck I needed. He went over the rental process in detail with me. He was very knowledgeable and able to answer all of my questions and concerns about the process. The truck was perfect what I needed, and all for a reasonable cost. I had a hitch installed recently and was amazed at the excellent customer service there!!! The employees were so busy, it was sssooooo hot that day yet employees managed to assist all customers with a positive attitude and truly friendly manner. Some customers however were less then patient while waiting their turn but the employees remained calm and upbeat and continued to be professional and courteous. Ok so local moving trucks for rent you 've got 2 options. Penske and Uhaul. Historically I've always gone with Uhual for # of locations and convenience, because the monetary savings was usually minimal. On a recent appliance upgrade of a fridge, washer, dryer, dishwasher, lamps chairs and some nick nacks I felt it best to not burden my friends in borrowing their trucks. I'm usually in the minority in that I don't mind helping people move, but lately I've been in the majority as a sloppy move is frustrating. If your using my back to load and unload then you better have it all organized when I get there, not this case and rarely is. Perhaps it's age and wisdom of many moves under my belt that are jading me. They have a large selection of trailers, small to medium trucks here with good inventory. The local price really isn't so bad and they have the ramps which totally help. Blankets are sealed and not worth breaking when I'm sure someone you know has a industrial dolly they aren't using, why spend $15 bucks extra. Be sure to sweep out to avoid a cleaning fee. Easy to drive after just a few minutes behind the wheel their 12 and 19 foot trucks are pretty good. Assuming you call ahead or book online you can be in and out of here on pick up or drop off in 10-15 top. They just need more space to maneuver the drop off, there is always some jerk off who rolls up and doesn't pull forward and the line is backed out into Hill Street, yeah I call it that just to show I'm from here. read more

Absolutely the worst customer service !! We had reservations made for 7am. Spoke to someone the night before that the guy will meet us at 7am. Turns out the place doesn't open until 9am. 3 staff members arrived at 8:30 and refused to help us in any way. They also didn't have a truck for us. Got us into their biggest one. Picked up some new furniture from a coworker and needed a large truck to fit it all in. I decided to come here bc of how easy it is to get a truck the size that I needed. I used a 14' truck and got it for $29.99 plus 79 cents per mile. I also paid $14 for insurance while I was using the rig. I drove it from Oceanside to Chula Vista and back and it costed me about $125. I reserved the truck online the night before for a 10AM pick up. I was there right at 10 and was out the door by 1015. I also checked in online so they had all of my information already in their system. Inside of the truck was nothing fancy at all. The AC worked perfectly. You have to fill up the gas tank to what it was when you got it, so I just put the cheapest gas I can find back in it. They charge $5/gal if you don't fill it up to what it was before. The 14' truck has a dolly and moving blankets inside. They charge $7 if you break the seal on the dolly to use it. They also charge to use the moving blankets. I recommend Uhaul for your moving needs. Inside near the customer service desk, they have all the moving supplies you can think of. Customer service was great as well. read more

We needed a pick up truck for a little yard work, so we rented it from here. They said it was $20 for 4 hours. We got the pick up with half a tank of gas in it. We returned it before the 4 hours, and they charged us $60 for the full tank of gas! Not that it's a ton of money, but it's bad business if you can't keep the basics of which vehicles have gas and which don't. So our $20 rental became $80 due to their neglect on keeping tabs on their rentals. Won't be renting from this branch again. read more

The most frustrating and weird experience. I scheduled an appointment 2 weeks ago to have a hitch installed for my bike rack. I received a VM today stating the order was inputted incorrectly...the order was for a bike rack but no hitch? What? When I returned the call, waited for 15 minutes I was routed to customer service. Although they were busy with lots of customer, the clerks were polite and worked hard to check everyone in. The day I went they had someone call in sick. As customers, it can be frustrating, but it's not the fault of the facility. The hitch installer was professional and worked diligently and ensured I was aware of the process. Location location location. That is all this place has going for it. Seems like they churn through help on the lot pretty regular, too bad because some of the best help I've received has been from veterans they employ (people who know how to work). The biggest problem is an apparent pack of systems. They'll have two people sitting at the counter and both will be on the phone for five minutes (or more!) while six or seven people are standing in front of them needing assistance with a rental, or simply wanting to pay for a propane refill. Then before they help you they decide its a good time to have an argument among themselves over the walkie-talkies. What an unprofessional pain-in-the-ass atmosphere. If they had half a brain they'd have a person or two in an office out of sight handling the incoming phone calls and reservations, and let the people working the counter take care of the bodies in front of them. They'd also worry less about playing "gotcha" over procedures over their walkie-talkies and in front of customers. If you have a problem with an employee handle it when there are not paying customers around. Thoroughly unprofessional. In this day and age to make a customer stand in front of you and wait for service while the employee impatiently handles a phone calls is completely unacceptable. read more

First impression was horrible. Got there to pick up my truck rental and nobody was at the counter 10am sunday morning. Waited and Waited along with another customer. We decided to follow the smell of cigarettes and found two women in the back smoking. They said they would be right out. That was the best part of the day. Then I go through the process of getting my truck. The guy jumps in to "Check my milage and fuel" He assures me that the truck was full of gas because he himself checked it in the night before. Sadly, I took him at his word and drove off. Then when I am 15 miles away I realize the truck has 3/4 of a tank. I finish my chores with the truck and fill it up and return. I then went inside to inform them that the truck was not full when I got it. It was like talking to the village idiot. I was told it was my responsibility to check fuel (Really? I had no idea) I assured her that I knew it was my responsibility. I also let her know that it was her responsibility to be honest and have a modicum of integrity as a business. Bottom line... Do not use this business. Horrible customer service. And unethical owners/managers. But if you are out of smokes they may have one you can bum? read more

Solid experience, great staff. We were helped by Angela I believe and she was able to squeeze us in a truck reservation last minute even though everything in North County was booked that day. No issues with the truck, super user friendly. Process went super smoothly with no hidden fees or nonsense. Only issue is that the location's sign is obscured on South Coast Highway by a palm tree, so I missed the parking lot entrance twice in a row! Grrrr read more

Filed a complaint with Uhaul corporate and was told that we would receive a call from the local GM within a couple of days. It has been 2 weeks and still no call and no answers. I have used this location for several moves. I am moving across country and made a reservation almost a month ago for a 5x8 enclosed trailer to be picked up on the 28th of nov. I get a call today saying that they do not have any of those trailers available now. At the time i made the reservation they had these trailers. I asked if they could upgrade me to a bigger one for the price of the 5x8 and they told me all they could do is refund me my $50 back. When i spoke to costumer service they pretty much told me sorry, figure it out on your own. The least they could have done is upgrade me to the 6x12 at the price of the 5x8 that i reserved but instead they wanted to charge me the full 1k. read more

The owner George Jennings hangs out in his office having inappropriate conversations on the phone or with the woman who works there. Heck when I walked in, I expected Deliverance banjo music to start up. No one said thank you just a "there ya be". I think I'm going to get my propane "over yonder" at a nicer place. U-Haul - Really 12 people in line over hour wait. - Self Storage Near Me - Oceanside, California

I have rented U-Hauls many times but had never had as awful of an experience as this. When we walked in to pick up our reservation, Ryan the manager ignored us for 20 minutes without a single word. Their computers were down and he was writing mine as well as everyone else's debit/credit card numbers on a piece of paper on display for EVERYONE to see. After reminding him that I was paying cash for my deposit, he refused to take it knowing I wasn't paying for it with my debit card. In turn, him and another worker named Elena repeatedly called me throughout my moving day numerous times leaving me threatening voice mails. I was so livid. When I dropped the truck of, Elena proceeded to talk down to me as if I was an idiot. She was so incredibly rude. Ive worked in customer service my entire life and have never been treated that way NOR have I treated another customer like that. The way she talked to my mother and I was appalling. Another customer overheard her and even CAME UP TO US to tell us that she was rude to him the previous day! Thankfully, Pierre came in and helped. He was wonderful and his customer service was out of this world. He was so kind and helped talk to my mom making her feel better after Elena's actions and words made her feel awful. Now after that whole ordeal, we walked back to our car only to be YELLED at by some older worker with a mustache outside. He literally went to my window, got in my face and yelled at me about being parked in an empty parking spot where other cars were parked because he didn't have enough room for people dropping off their trucks. What?! I couldn't believe it. I literally was just keeping to myself trying to leave this hell hole of a U-Haul center. Once again, Pierre comes out and tells this man to calm down and back off of us. Again, he is such a great worker and deserves praise for what he did for us. I'm not sure what this mans name was but I don't know what kind of people you hire who literally yell in a customers face through their window for no valid reason. Disgusting. Best believe I sent this to corporate and will be telling every single person we know about this. I will be sure that nobody I know steps foot in this god awful place. read more

Omg- horrible experience for a hitch install. Let me tell ya.. Last week we made an appt to have the hitch installed. We go down to for our scheduled time, but we didn't want to just drop it off, my husband wanted to talk to the technician so he could explain exactly what we wanted. We waited 30+ min to see the technician and when we finally do, they don't have the right electrical connection. No problem, they say they can order it and it will be in within a couple of days. We make an appt for a week later. Fast forward to yesterday (our appt was today) when my hubby called the store to ensure they have the correct part. Don't have it, but they assure us they have an adequate substitute. So we drop the car today, WRONG SUBSTITUTE PART. Fine, we cancel the electrical portion and just have them do the install. They tell us 1:30-3:30. We call at 3:25 - car won't be ready to pick up till 4:15. Really?? Hubby goes to pick it up early -- technician is like it's ready. The install technician left 20 min ago. My husband looks at the work and realizes the plastic trim that goes under the back of the car is missing. They didn't even bother putting it back on. They didn't even know where it was. My husband has to find it in the garage. At this point, he has lost his patience and just wanted to get out of there. Poor customer service, poor workmanship. I do not recommend this place even to my worst enemy. read more

NOTE: This review is only about the folks who run and work at this location. It is NOT an endorsement in any way of the U-Haul U-Box system, which continues to be a complete fiasco evidencing an almost unbelievable level of disorganization for an international operation of this size. *** Overnight, these nice folks went from zero to hero. After a lot of back and forth with George, they processed a $50 per day credit for having failed to meet our "guaranteed" delivery date. And you can't say fairer than that. Now, as for the national U-Haul operation, and the U-Box program generally ... it still needs a lot of work. But if they can get their act together, this seems like the way to move long distances within the U.S. and Canada. Aside from delivery delays, U-Box was far less stressful than renting, loading, driving, and unloading a large U-Haul truck. And it was cheaper than truck rental to boot. For us, U-Box was around a third the cost of a so-called "full-service" mover (Mayflower, Atlas, United, North American, etc.) ... and with none of the breakage, loss/theft, and general assholish behavior we've gotten in abundance from those people in the past. U-Box is probably the cost equivalent of moving with a U-Haul trailer. If you're one of the rare Americans whose worldly possessions weigh less than 2,480 pounds and takes up less than 396 cu. ft., that may be an option. But unless you have lots of trailering experience, it can be a high-risk undertaking. Plus there's all that wear and tear on the tow vehicle. Anyhow. thank George, Denise, Kristin, EV and all the other nice folks in Oceanside for stepping up and helping to make our move a relatively stress-free experience. read more

I had an hour long wait, after submitting a full application online and calling ahead twice to clarify my order. This location needs to streamline the pickup process to bypass the inside counter if application fully done online, as mine was. Had to wait in line at counter, wait in line again for someone to help in the yard. Self serve on furniture dolly, trailer was dirty, could use a power wash inside and out - I borrowed a broom to sweep out debris myself. Upon return, the two yard guys were inefficient, both checking in the truck before me without communicating to each other, while I waited. Vehicles were randomly parked all over the yard without any flow, and trailers not put away causing chaos. Not at all like my excellent first trip here in December last year. If there were a local alternative, I wouldn't be back. Gotta work on process and training! read more

I had a perfect experience with this U-Haul. I reserved my truck online a couple days prior and they had one ready for me almost an hour before the time I wrote on my reservation. Then, in looking at the truck (10'), I realized it would not be big enough for my purposes. No problem, I was immediately able to switch to a 15'. When I wasn't able to bring the truck back at the time I had inputted for my reservation, no problem again! After being on hold a little while, the very nice lady on the phone and I worked out another time with no extra charge. I just looked over my final receipt (emailed) and the billing was around what I thought it would be. No "hidden charges" or any funny business. Very straightforward and easy to understand what I was paying for. Sorry to read about other people having a bad experience with this location, but the customer service was stellar for me. read more

I needed a 7 pin adapter for my ranger to tow a new trailer and Ryan helped me find the adapter I needed, and gave me some wire to run to my battery to charge my trailer battery.
