I was in the area and looking for new Thai restaurant spot for myself and I found this delicious spot. This place offers only indoor dining with around ten dining tables. The menu has a variety of salads, soups, starter, noodles, wok fried and more. I order Drunken Noodles with chicken from the lunch menu for $10.75 (will add $1 or $2 if add protein like chicken or shrimps ) and came with small side salad and one piece of spring roll which I found it really good deal. The service was amazing - very friendly and attentive. The staff checked in often, to ensure that everything was okay which I only see this more in fine dining restaurants or hotel - it's a next level. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for something new spot for Thai food. I will definitely be back again soon.

I've driven by this place so many times and finally had the opportunity to stop by. And I'm so glad we did. This place has really fresh and flavorful dishes. We went in for a great lunch special. $10.75 includes a dish, salad, and egg roll. I added a side of fried wontons. The spicy eggplant was cooked perfectly and even the tofu had great texture. Veggies were crisp. Chicken wasn't dried out like at some other places I've tried. All in all, we will definitely be back. The customer service is excellent. Super fast and freshly made food, and our server was so friendly and attentive. This is a very casual Thai restaurant but it felt like top notch service and food. Highly recommend coming to check out the lunch special and I'll be back to try more items. They are in the process of changing names due to confusion with a different place called "La's". The server said he's there 6 days a week and I asked him about the orange chicken I saw another table order. He said it's one of his favorite items and although that's not a Thai dish, I don't care, I'll be getting it next time. The menu does say "Asian fusion" so mixing up some genres doesn't bother me if the food is delicious. It looked very good. Their eggrolls were some of the best I've had in a while. They roll them in house and you could tell they are super crispy and tasty. I'll be back :)

Great food and excellent service! We showed up the moment they opened starving and were attended quickly. We started with the egg roll which was a great appetizer, and then ordered pad Thai, red curry, and pineapple curry. The pineapple curry was fantastic - I got it medium spicy and it had a nice kick with the delicious sweetness of the pineapple. I didn't have any of the red curry but my mom and uncle loved it, and we were all very happy with the Pad Thai. We finished with Mango Sticky Rice (my favorite that I ate basically every day in Thailand) and it was great. On top of that, our server was prompt and super friendly. He is from Singapore but I unfortunately didn't get his name so hopefully the owners know who I'm talking about because he was great! It was on Wednesday 3/28 at 4pm. All was great.

New menu, new hours, but the same great taste! I usually got take out from this place. Last time I got the take-out, I am so happy with my orders. I got tofu Pad Thai, noodle curry, and chicken satay. The chicken satay is tender and juicy. I love to have satay with cucumber with vinegar. They are busy. I am glad that I called to order ahead of time. Look like the interior got some updates. The new menu looks great.

My dad and I dined here for the first time today, and we really enjoyed it! The food was great, the service was exceptional, and the ambiance was very cozy! We ordered the tofu fresh rolls, salted edamame, Thai tea, and Green Curry with eggplant (one with shrimp and one with tofu), basmati rice, and brown rice. The Thai tea was delicious, the tofu fresh rolls were exceptional (best in town), the edamame was ok (could have been hotter) and the Green curry was good. This is the nicest Thai restaurant in town for dining in, because the restaurant is small, comfortable, and cozy with some booths. (The only problem is being too close to your neighbors, in case you don't enjoy their conversation.) The restaurant was very popular and full with every seat taken seemingly a large volume of to go orders based on the wait time. The owner was very friendly and welcoming, but the appetizers took a while to arrive. When the entrees arrived, I was already full, but the entrees were not 100% accurate. My dad's green curry had fried tofu instead of soft tofu, but he enjoyed it anyway. My curry was good, but some of the vegetables (eggplant and zuchini) were overcooked. I was disappointed that the brown rice was darker than I am used to. Overall, it was an excellent experience, and we would go back!

I tried this place for the first time and it is incredible! Firstly, the guy working was so friendly and welcoming, he was super polite and made sure that my daughter and I were comfortable. The interior was beautiful and clean, great for an intimate yet casual date night. I was craving a yellow curry with shrimp and they made it just perfect. The perfect amount of spice for me was the medium and they put a lot of shrimp and veggies in it. It came with rice on the side which was really moist and fluffy. I also got the egg rolls which were really out of this world! They are clearly handmade in house, you definitely cannot skip getting them! Everything was delicious and made to order, I'll definitely be back!

    Cool wall art.

We were very sceptical at first but the recommendation was spot on. We were seated right away and our server Bela approached immediately. She was very friendly and went down the menu telling us all about the specials and her recommendations. We needed no recommendations because we were there for one thing the Bei special. The special was an assortment of various rolls assembled beautifully making each piece stand out. The first bite was divine and as we worked around the ring of rolls they got better and better. The sauces brought perfect harmony and complemented the fish. The sushi was incredibly fresh not having the fishy order lingering. The rolls melted in your mouth like butter leaving you satisfied. It was so good we placed a second order. Bela stopped by frequently checking on us and also telling us about the restaurant and the area and provided a friendly atmosphere that you do not often get in northern Midwest. The Spider Roll was very good except for the sauce on top that did not suite our palate but after removing the sauce it was fantastic. The Hot Mama Roll was also amazing. The flavors went well with the Yuki Mango Nigori Sake. We also tried some of their beers and spent a while catching up. Belas service was second to none and made this reunion fabulous. The sushi at Bei was better than 95% of our sushi restaurants in my state and the price was very good. They also have a cute cat robot that delivers food! Thank you Bela we hope to come back again on our next trip to Arizona to try more food.

When we walked in it had a very fishy smell, so it kind of made us second guess our choice. But we went for it anyhow. The greeter/server was very pleasant and sat us. It was very clean inside with ample space between seat. We browsed through the menu and started with our usual edamame and pot stickers. The edamame was salted well throughout where a lot of places just put the salt on top only. We ordered a couple varieties of sake which were both good. Out of all of the things we ordered the karange skewer was just a little more oily than were use to, but still good. The spicy salmon roll had really great flavor and the lollipop roll was probably one of the better versions that we have had. The musubi was giant to say the least, it was good, but offered a bit too much rice. Overall the food and service was great and we were very happy that we ended up here!

We were nearby for a show, and decided to stop in on a Wednesday evening for a late dinner with some friends. They have a good happy hour menu, and my friends ordered off there, but I was craving sushi so I got the nigiri omakase. It came with miso soup, which I enjoyed, definitely hard to go wrong there. The sushi itself was decent, nothing crazy, but definitely better than grocery store quality. The tuna and salmon pieces were a little fishy, maybe not the freshest, but it was also quite late (~10pm) so I wasn't expecting too much. Beautifully presented, and the cuts were quite large which was nice! The food came out pretty fast, and the service was pleasant. The restaurant vibes are pretty dark, and moody. The bathroom was kind of scary personally, super dark and a little messy, so I decided to wait till I got home. Overall, a solid experience, and definitely a good choice if I am in the area.

SumoMaya Updated Yelp Review: 2.0/5…read more This one pains me to write. The last time I dined at SumoMaya was about 10 years ago and at that time I gave it a 5/5-star experience. I remembered it as a vibrant, trendy, elevated dining destination with great food and a fun atmosphere. So when I decided to bring my mom (who had never been) to try their Arizona Restaurant Week menu, I was genuinely excited. Unfortunately... much has changed. Let me start with the positives because there were a few. The inside ambiance is still fantastic. SumoMaya absolutely nails the vibe. Modern, sexy, upscale energy with a lively crowd, gorgeous interior design, and a house DJ spinning deep house that honestly may have been the highlight of the night. If you're looking for a place to grab cocktails, enjoy music, and soak in a cool atmosphere? Sure. For that alone, they still have something going for them. Also, our server was excellent -- friendly, attentive, and professional. Now...the food. We arrived around 7:30 PM and didn't leave until roughly 9:30 PM, which felt excessive considering we were doing a fixed Restaurant Week menu. While our server was great, the kitchen/food pacing was painfully slow. The Breakdown: Maya Roll - 4/5 The clear winner of the night. Fresh, flavorful, well-balanced, and honestly the only dish that reminded me why SumoMaya used to have the reputation it did. Pad Thai Pork "Al Pastor" - 1/5 This was rough. The noodles were noticeably overcooked, the flavor was bland, and overall it felt confused conceptually and poorly executed. Definitely not a dish I'd ever order again. Chilean Sea Bass w/ Miso Glaze - complicated . This dish deserves its own courtroom trial. The first sea bass plates came out undercooked to the point where the fish practically looked ready to swim away. Let's be clear: Chilean sea bass is not sushi. Serving undercooked fish in this context is not just disappointing -- it's a legitimate food safety concern. That initial version? 0/10. Once corrected, the bigger issue became the miso glaze, which was aggressively overpowering. To the point where both my mom and I felt a bit queasy after a few bites. Without lime? 1/5. With lime squeezed over it to cut through the miso overload? 3/5. Even then, it was just... mediocre. I've had far better Chilean sea bass elsewhere -- buttery, delicate, flaky perfection. This wasn't that. Given the glowing reviews I had read about this dish, this was one of the bigger disappointments of the night. Mexican Street Corn - 0/5 As a side, we were served the Mexican Street Corn, and unfortunately this was another major miss. I love Mexican street corn and have ordered it at countless restaurants throughout Arizona, so I was excited to try SumoMaya's version. Sadly, this wasn't even remotely close to what I'd expect from authentic or well-executed street corn. My mom, who is a chef, immediately commented that it tasted like canned corn, and honestly, I had to agree. There was very little of the bold flavor profile that makes Mexican street corn so addictive. The cotija, lime, spice, and cream elements that should make the dish pop were either absent or completely overwhelmed by the watery dish itself. 0/5 stars. In fact, this may have been the worst Mexican street corn I've ever had at a restaurant. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, especially considering how many excellent versions of this dish can be found throughout the Valley. Bread Pudding - 0/5 I don't say this lightly: possibly the worst bread pudding I've ever had. Dry. Hard. Portions of the bread tasted borderline burnt. Instead of warm, decadent comfort-food dessert vibes, it felt like chewing on a stale kitchen experiment gone wrong. Final Verdict: This is where it gets tough. If we hadn't been dining on the Restaurant Week prix fixe, I honestly would have felt severely swindled, because the standard menu pricing here is not cheap -- and based on the quality of what came out of the kitchen, I simply don't see the value. The only reason this review gets 2 stars instead of 1 is because: Great ambiance Awesome house music / deep house DJ Excellent server One good sushi roll But based purely on food quality? This was deeply disappointing. I genuinely hate saying this because I remembered SumoMaya so fondly, but I will be shocked if this restaurant maintains longevity if this is the level of food consistently leaving the kitchen. Would I come back? Maybe for drinks, ambiance, and the music. Definitely not for dinner.

We were able to snag happy hour deals for the chili edamame and the Las Vegas and spicy yellowtail rolls. The rolls were very tasty and came out in less than 5mins. The edamame.... THE BEST edamame I've had to date. These are a required must-try for anyone going here. We decided to try a hot pot for the first time and went with a fan favorite spicy seafood pot. I was scared it would be fishy, which I don't like. But it was in a tonkotsu broth (pork bone broth) so the seafood flavor was just in the seafood itself, which was perfect for me. It was so good. Not very spicy though, and I think that would level it up a bit. Off happy hour, it is a bit pricey. A hotpot is $20 but easily feeds two or three people, but the rolls are about $7-$14 a piece which adds up. Happy hour is a good time to be there. It's also more refined inside, a nice glow of the lights and high end tableware and chopsticks. Not too fancy, which is perfect for an impromptu night out like we had.

If you're not a fan of strong flavors, I would recommend asking for lighter seasoning on some dishes and a little extra water in the soups. That balance worked well for our preferences. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the food. During the hour we were there, the restaurant wasn't busy. There were only a couple of tables being served, yet our drinks were never refilled, our table wasn't bused, and our rice never arrived with our hot pot soups even after our server asked if we wanted it. It seemed to be forgotten. What really stood out was that we ended up eating dessert with a table full of dirty dishes still sitting in front of us and empty drinks that had not been refilled. I also noticed that the table next to us appeared to receive much more attentive service. Their drinks were refilled, their dishes were cleared promptly, and staff regularly checked on them to see if they needed anything. In comparison, our table received very little attention. I don't know why there was such a difference in service. It left me wondering whether we were being treated differently, though I can't say for certain. Overall, the food was excellent, but the service was disappointing and significantly affected our experience. (Server was Dhillon T.)

There are many other sushi restaurants that are far better in terms of taste and value. We came for a special occasion and ordered a variety of things. Our favorite dish was the hama chili. We also got a few items off their happy hour menu and the bluefin otoro gunkan was great. The nigiris then came out and that's when things started to go south. My salmon belly nigiri was a bad cut and there was still the skin in it, and when I had mentioned it to the staff, our waiter came and explained it to me like I was a child. It was very off-putting, to say the least. Thankfully, they did take it off our tab. We also got a scallop nigiri and my sister thought it was too salty. Per our server's recommendation, we also ordered the akami te, which is a tuna crudo with pressed watermelon. This is not something we would normally get, however she raved about it and told us it was a must. It was very underwhelming... the watermelon and herbs overpowered the taste of the tuna and rather than enhancing the flavor of fish, it completely changed it. We understand that their concept is to "dress" the fish, but it didn't really work well in this case. They also brought out a dry-aged mackerel as a gift for us to try, but it was very stringy and we were not a fan. Walu walu is good. On the brighter side, their desserts were a hit. We got the fried milk and jasmine cream - both amazing! The warm fried milk balls paired nicely with the sweet cream ice cream that also had a hint of saltiness to it; it was so milky and decadent, almost like a white rabbit candy. I would come back just for this. It did get a little too rich after a while though. Jasmine cream, on the other hand, was refreshing and bright! It had a light jasmine flavor but it was a great way to end the meal. Overall, pretty disappointing experience but I would come back to try their other menu items or their omakase options in the future.

Had lunch here and it was about a 10 min wait to get in. There is an iPad at the front door to put…read moreyour name on the wait list. Small footprint in the Mekong Plaza. Ordered the pork and chives dumplings, XLB, and Beef chow fun. Service was expedient and waters were already preset on the table. There was a QR code on the table that allowed you to order online or if you waited a few more minutes, server will come over and take your order. All of our food came fast... within about 10-15 min. Chow fun had the wok hay ( wok air that makes food taste good) and thick slices of velveted beef slices. Pork and chive dumpling and XLB were juicy and moist and delicious with the ginger black vinegar chili oil sauce. I really like the food here and staff moves fast. Great place for a quick lunch.

Great little dumpling place!…read more The place is small, with limited seating, so be prepared to wait a little, though we didn't wait long! Maybe 20 minutes? The staff was all really friendly which surprised me because I swear they never stopped! They were busy but still kind and attentive! We ordered the spicy dumplings and the Hong Kong Fried Rice! The Boas were good, but the dough was a little thicker than I'm used to. So I felt full rather quickly! The fried rice however, 10/10 NO NOTES!!! Best fried rice I think I've ever had!! Totally worth the drive. Will be back for sure!!

Happy Bao's - Classic Beef Chow Fun made with fresh homemade noodles. The result is a much softer and springy noodle that holds up better to wok frying.
