I still adore Ulta and I like that this store is clean and generally has a decent selection. But oh man it has gotten AWFUL with the staffing issue. They will constantly have 3-4 employees hovering around everywhere you go. I definitely appreciate being greeted and asked if I need help---it's better than being ignored, for sure---but four times in five minutes is a bit excessive, don't you think? I was even stopped by the same employee TWICE who would then "conveniently" hover around the area pretending to rearrange stuff. I guess she thought I was going to steal something. I spend well over $1000 in makeup a year---come on! The funny thing is, they have so many employees patrolling the nearly empty sales areas, but won't assign them to the cash registers because they are "understaffed". Tell me how it makes more sense to have one single cashier for a mile-long line but four employees in the "prestige" makeup area continually bothering people who have told you for the fifth time they are still looking? read more

I had made an appointment a couple of days ago to get my haircut while visiting my mom for a birthday party and went today for my appointment with Katherine. I had my hair done by her before so we were chatting while she washed and while she started my cut. She was mid cut when she cut herself, I felt bad when she ran to clean herself up and the manager Kelly came and finished my cut up. Then Kelly had someone come blow dry my hair, all the while, Kelly made it possible for my mom to get her hair cut as a walk-in. My mom and I said it was the best experience we've ever had at Ulta. read more

I go to Ulta for my hair. I always book with Vernon. I have mid-length, super fine hair, but a lot of it, which is not ideal. Vernon does a fabulous job with it. He is the only person i found so far thar cuts my hair to give it enough volume without the freeze, and give me enough highlights but very thin ones so it's more of a natural look, plus some washable peekaboo magenta highlights sometimes in just the right spots, for a classy, yet fun look. Beyond that, he is soooooooo nice, always so positive, listens to whar YOU want while making suggestions as far as products etc, always taking classes at vidal sasson etc to better himself and overall pleasant. read more

This is the only Ulta close to my neck of the woods. I've made a few trips here for makeup needs. Cool location at the Empire center in Burbank. When this location first opened it was great. Not too many people, plenty of parking, and a ton of selection. Now that Walmart opened right next to it this location is almost impossible to visit on weekends. The parking is packed, the store is full, the sales associates are not too friendly, the shelves are empty, and the checkout line nearly wraps around the side of the store. Overall the experience was typical nothing to really swoon over but if you're desperate for beauty products and don't feel like going to an actual mall to Sephora or the MAC counter then this is your best bet. read more

I was shopping there yesterday for a foundation. I asked three different girls for help because I was unable to find the brand I wanted and two of the girls I asked (one being the manager) were extremely rude to me! They didn't help me at all and both had a nasty attitude for no reason! The third girl was so nice and helpful she directed me to the foundation that the other employees said they did not carry. PSA! If you don't like working in customer service or in a make up store find another job no one's forcing you to be there. Ulta please find better employees!!! I've been to this location a few times and I always buy my makeup from Ulta Beauty. I went in there this time looking for white powder for my Halloween costume. One employee was helpful and said they had a set of white powder and black powder for Halloween and checked with some other employee as to where it was in the store. This other employee said they were sold out. I said, "oh no problem. Do you have an alternative? I'm really not picking. Just need white powder." And the girl says "No" I actually laughed and said, "I'm sorry that's silly. We're in a makeup store and you're telling me you don't have white powder?" And she again said no. Not giving me any other options. Luckily the first employee I talked to was there and said "here's one" Seriously Ulta, you gotta listen to customers when they keep saying the employees are not very good here. I've been coming to this salon for years, but didn't meet Rachel till about a little over 2 years ago. She initially saved me from my at home pandemic haircuts. I should've never attempted to cut layers on myself. I continue to go to her for all my hair needs because she's truly the best! I have really thick hair and I've been made insecure about that from hairdressers in the past, but that's never been the case with her. I feel really cared for when I sit in her chair and trust her fully. She's so open to whatever I'm thinking of getting done and appreciate how easy it is to communicate with her. I recently did a big chop and color and Rachel was amazing and patient every single step of the way. Like I said, I have really thick hair and she took on the challenge no problem! I called to make an eyebrow appointment, and the woman working the Benefit brow bar was incredibly rude. I asked to schedule for whenever she had availability, and she pressed me on when. So I said tomorrow, or maybe today if she has it? In the most condescending tone as if I'm supposed to know her schedule, she says no I am already off today. I was off at 6 PM. OK, then why don't you schedule me whenever as I'd asked instead of being so rude. This is not the first time I've had an experience with an employee being rude at the store, it seems to be a part of their culture. They think their gods gift to earth just because they slap on some make up they bought with their employee discount. read more

Their salon appears great and lovely but I have had a hairdo and makeup appointment there in the past. The hairdo was nice big waves like Old Classic Hollywood but my hair was going flat within the first 2 hours. Disappointing!!! The makeup artist was unprofessional. When I made my appointment I told her what the occasion was, the color of my dress and I selected a makeup color combination from a picture she showed me on her phone. I was adamant about wanting that look. The day of she called me picky because she wasn't doing at all what I had asked for. She seemed annoyed and careless about what i wanted and dismissive about what we had discussed. Can you believe I still gave them a tip? It was a waste of my time and money. I came here specifically to look for a hair product that has been discontinued and was assisted by Lena. It was my first time at an ULTA, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I was a little underwhelmed, as I had thought there would be more of a selection. In looking for a replacement product, Lena really knew her stuff, though there was only one product line that seemed to match what I was looking for. This was somewhat disappointing, especially since there were no testers to try out the consistency. They do, however, have a 60 day return policy with the receipt.... Lena was so helpful, that based on her assistance alone this place could have been five stars. She also helped me find a good quality hairbrush. All in all, I am not sure I would return, as I can easily find most of what I encountered here at a mall. read more

The only reason that I give them 1 star is because of their birthday gift rewards ( maybe it will get someone's attention). I have been shopping this store since they open in Burbank. We are one of their loyal customers but never even once they honored their own birthday reward program (unlike Sephora) and gave me the gift that was mentioned in the email. PROS: There are always deals and the staff is super friendly. I was greeted with a smile and someone asked if I needed help. I wanted to try a foundation but the only person who was there was stuck helping someone else. I didn't want to be rude and interrupt . After waiting over 20 minutes, I decided to just try and come another day. CONS: Doesn't the staff know how to clean? Or at least throw away used lip liners that are clearly not meant to be used as samples. Almost every section I walked over two had used lip liners out of place. I knew they weren't samples because the plastic seal was broken. I guess someone was in dire need of finding a specific color! I am hoping they do a better job at keeping the store clean... read more

Bunch of disappointments. First off just be prepared to wait 15min+ in line. I had a birthday coupon for a free ULTA palette. "Sorry we ran out, you can try back again on Tuesday we may have it back in stock. " Employee- "Did you find everything ok?" Me: "No, do you guys have Aveeno body lotion?" Another 5 mins later, employee came back with Aveeno face lotion. Nope. And after she rung me out and I couldnt use any of my coupons, "oh we ran out of small bags, would you like your order in a large bag?" No thanks. All i got was lip liner and an urban decay product. This review is based on my personal ignorance in the world of cosmetics. I'll start with the basics: Accessibility - No problem. It's easy to get to from so many entrances in the Empire Center parking lot. Parking - No problem. Again, tons of spots in the Empire Center parking lot. Curb Appeal - Great. The store is massive, modern, well-kept, and inviting. Staff/Customer Service - No Complaints from me. I've only been in here a couple of times with my wife, but they always offer a friendly greeting as we walk in. Someone always finds us in the store and asks, "Are you finding everything alright?" I appreciate that. If I were by myself in that store, trying to buy something for my wife, I'd be completely lost. Sticker Shock - YES! My wife bought 2 items (some kind of hair product, and facial moisturizer) and the grand total was over $90.00!! What?!? Apparently, according to my wife, that was quite reasonable. "Other places," she calmly stated, "are much more pricy." Thank goodness we didn't go shopping at one of those 'other places.' Bonus Points - I didn't know that my wife has some kind of super secret membership at ULTA. When we paid, she gave them her phone number and she 'earned' a bonus reward. It was some kind of tote bag with some kind of freebie makeup stuff inside. Yeah - that's my most articulate way of describing the contents. read more

2015 YELP 100 CHALLENGE - 085/100 I have been to a number of Ulta locations in my day, and this one is currently the closest one to me. I am really glad that I now work very close to this one for easy access, but I find myself constantly disappointed in the selection here. Some of the testers look really gross and disgusting, and I don't want to use them. Also, I feel like a lot of the things I expect to buy here are never in stock. I did have a great experience when I came here on a Friday evening a few weeks ago. They had specialists from almost every brand in the higher end cosmetics/skin care section to help assist customers and learn about their respective brand/products. I had a great conversation with the representative from Tarte and she was able to properly match me to my favorite Tarte foundation! Way better than the girls that color match at Sephora :P There was a guy from Juice Beauty that was a bit pushy to me. I could tell he was trying to get me to buy the most expensive products from his brand and I was not falling for it! Overall...glad that this Ulta is around, but not the best one I've ever been to. read more

I walked across a woman who had a huge box in her hand and clearly was going somewhere with it, but still stopped to greet me and ask if I need help. I actually did need some help. She walked me to many different brands to find the perfect product that I wanted to buy as a gift. With everyone being so rude during Covid, she definitely made my visit memorable by being so kind. Another trip to Ulta in Burbank and another beyond horrible experience at check out! The cashier Andrea needs some customer service and empathy training! There was a little girl about 2yrs old that was lost and started walking around the store with me...I asked other customers if she belonged to them and they said no. I finally found a employee and told them this lil girl is lost....the look the employee gave was ridiculous! This is a serious situation....it's a lost child in your store! The mother of the child walked up just then and thank goodness! Later after waiting in a long line they finally opened another register and yay it was the rude employee from the lost child interaction :( read more

The Ulta in Hollywood was out of a particular product I wanted. They mentioned how a new shipment comes in every Thursday. I called back today, and even though the shipment came in... the product I wanted was not present. Not only that, even if I waited till next week for another shipment, there's no guarantee that it would be there.... disappointed!! I called the Ulta in Burbank and asked if they had what I needed in my shade. They said they had tons. I asked them to reserve me 2 but they said I shouldn't worry, there was plenty in stock. I said reserve them anyway. As I drove there, I got lost. I only got generic directions. I love it when there's a Victory Place and a Victory Blvd right next to each other. Not confusing at all. When I finally made my way, I was glad to see that there was ample parking in the lot. I went straight inside, and asked for the make up I had on reserve. Well... they didn't reserve it and I somehow managed to get the last two. Yeah... the term "plenty in stock" was used loosely here. As mentioned in my review of Ulta in Hollywood, don't expect over the top service here. This is a pop in and out place with minimal fuss. Just cross your fingers and hope what you need is in stock. Don't forget to use the coupons they send you in the mail. Saving $3.50 on a $10+ purchase is a good deal indeed. read more

Ulta is just OK to me. I guess I must be a die-hard Sephora fan. There's something about that place that makes me think they are Sephora's bastard stepchild. And I think the people who work at ULTA know that too. What I do love about Ulta, however, is their nail polish selection. OPI, and Essie, and their nail tools. I also do love that they often have a Buy-2-Get-1-Free specials.... even on their OPI polishes! LOVE THAT! The colors are also always rotating. I also do like that they have different hair products than Sephora has. So although I am hopelessly devoted to Sephora, I will check out Ulta every once in a while, if only to head straight into their nail department. (BTW -- this location is a 100x cleaner and has better selection than it's West Hollywood counterpart.) read more

Ahhh...the gift that keeps on giving. Ulta is just not a good place. Connie, passive-aggressive, you are a tease. Amid that cute, seemingly you know your crap exterior, you just can't be wrong can you? Let me say this, I remained composed despite the fact this train wreck was in front of me. So here goes, I go up to the register for the exchange, I tell Connie that I verified online first before I made a purchase but unfortunately didn't win that battle. STORY: The online Hawaiian Tropic Sunblock showed an image of SPF 15, but the description says you are getting an SPF 30. Obviously, I sent an email to the online ulta folks to let them know and to ask whether I would be getting the SPF 30 if I purchased said item. I get an email back from Susan S., telling me Absolutely yes you are going to get the SPF 30 and I will have IT fix the problem. I then purchase 2 of said product. A few days later I get the package, SPF 15. So here I am at the ULTA register in Burbank with Connie for an exchange. She tells me these SPF 30 are $1 more each out of pocket for me because they are higher SPF. Did you listen to me? Do you not understand that ULTA screwed up and that I would not have bought the product with SPF 15 if Susan S. fom ULTA did not screw up? As far as I knew 8.99 was the price of the SPF 30 because that is what Susan S. told me. I walk out of the store. Call Ulta online and speak to Stormy --- great name by the way. She knows about the situation and she tells me that Ulta Burbank should honor the exchange. She calls the store manager, Sherry and she proceeds to tell everyone on the floor, including Connie, to give me the exchange without charging me. I go back in. Connie again, with the not so subtle sounds of defeat and passive aggressive attitude, keeps telling her colleague and another customer that oh yeah the SPF 30 is more expensive than the SPF 15 because its a higher SPF. Because she couldn't deal with me getting the exchange after she wanted to charge me for each? Grow up. For future reference, you wouldn't have a job if customers like me didn't shop at Ulta. So don't pick and choose who you want to be nice to and additionally, LISTEN. You may actually learn something At the end of the day, keep telling yourself you're right. Three stars - tough crowd ladies! Maybe I was lucky, I'm usually greeted with a smile, and even approached while perusing for assistance. Clearance is great, with plenty of nail polish & other items marked to a great discount. Hubby found a few pomades as well, so he doesn't mind wandering around spraying colognes and what not. The March daily deals they had were awesome, especially bringing Butter London down to $9. Short of finding old seasons at Nordstrom Rack, you won't find BL priced like that anywhere. Points add up quickly, and the rewards system, at least for me, seems to be better than Sephora. I was a VIB for a long time, but since last year didn't feel like the rewards were the same, and Customer Service at the Americana Sephora (since removing it from the Galleria) was lackluster, if not non-existent. Plus, it's also open an hour later than Sally's, meaning I can still manage to swing by here after work. Ample parking too. read more

Elica is my fave when it comes to the salon stylists. She has been working on my hair for years now, at least 8 years I'd say. My appointments never get forgotten about. I always get confirmation phone calls or text messages. I'm always able to talk to my stylist about products of interest and to learn more about what may or may not work for me when attempting to style my ends. The difference products here is awesome, so many different products from so many different lines and brands. They often have fun give aways and promotional gifts with purchase for things like makeup, fragrance, body wash or other toiletry products. I have been a platinum member since 2008. That means that not only do I spend too much money here each year but that I also get to use my points to purchase items, with no exceptions. It is my go to beauty product store. Vern is another good stylist. He always understands what I'm looking for, when it comes to styling products. One thing, I am disappointed that they no longer carry Fekkai hair products and they seem to be phasing out the Brocato items as well. Dang it! See you soon!! With as many testers as they have throughout the store they were able to open a small bottle of fragrance for me??? I thought it was ridiculous, I'm purchasing the largest bottle you sell and I can't even test it out to find out if it's the correct cologne?! Their response is well it's the last bottle... Well yes it's the last bottle in that size but you have several smaller bottles displayed on the shelf. This place used to be a great store, now it's just a big sloppy mess. The racks look like a Russian supermarket during the height of the Cold War. There is NOTHING that is organized and don't assume that just because you pull a product from the shelf that it's in the correct compartment as the tag indicates. What. A. Dump. The only good thing about this store is the hair care section, especially the big brands like Joico & Paul Mitchell. They usually have that stuff in stock, the only reason I gave this place 2 stars. Avoid the makeup sections at all costs. But then again the store pretty much takes care of that for you because there isn't anything on the shelves in the first place. The End. read more

Eh. I only go here because of the coupons, but today made me rethink shopping here. I went in looking to try Bare Minerals foundation. A girl dressed in all black (Ulta dress code) asked me if I needed help. Told her I was looking for BM, and she steers me towards Pur Minerals. After about a minute, I realized she was a rep for Pur. Ok fine, but I wasn't interested. She then told me it's the same company, but Pur doesn't use talc and bismuth. LIES! Not the same company at all. Beware of reps. They'll say anything to make a sale. I wish the reps for the brands were clearly labeled as such, so they are not confused with Ulta employees. I was not looking to be sold on certain brands, just wanted help finding what I was looking for. Also, good luck finding what you came in for. Stuff is ALWAYS out of stock and price tags are missing on a lot of products. So overall, eh. I prefer Sephora. read more

I love coming here to get good deals on my beauty essentials. Ironically, whenever I purchase a product one of their beauty experts (usually benefit advocates or whatever) the product is a fail for me. It might be my luck, but I have wasted money anytime they recommend a product (usually a benefit product). I learned my lesson. I will politely shoo away these 'beauty helpers' whenever they try to give me their I'll advice. This is just my experience as I'm sure many Ulta customers have hopefully had better luck with these people. The only positive experience I've had was with the tattooed, fair skinned redhead. She wasn't pushy for the company she worked for, and helped me find excellent skin products. read more

Walked into Ulta today to buy some foundation and approached Victoria for some help in the matter. She was amazing!!! She sat me down and told me my face was super dry, before I knew it, I had a face full of lotion! She then applied some primer and she got on working! Before I knew it, I had the most amazing make up on ever!!! For the first time make up shopping, I didn't question the products once! She used the perfect foundation right off the bat, the most amazing blush and she wasn't happy till she put on eyeliner and mascara too. She didn't want to leave her work half way done.
