First time ever having a bad experience at any store. The only one patient enough and was super helpful is Eugene. He took his time, walked me through the best products he knows and never pressured me to buy anything. He is very resourceful, polite and respectful. Unfortunately, the bad experience came from another manager, I did not catch her name. I did not like the way she approached my questions. Her answers were blunt and rude. I get it, we all work hard and we all get tired sometimes but this is her job. She gave me a look that was demeaning and almost threatening. Very awkward and uncomfortable. Lead by examples of the way you want to be treated. Don't visually degrade a paying customer if they cannot understand your way of speaking about returning products. I've been thinking about dying my hair pink for a long time, and finally decided to take the plunge. I'm so glad I did!! I found myself at Ulta for a free consultation, not expecting to have it done right away, and Jerrica said, "I love it! So do you have time? We'll do it today!" I was all in!! I showed Jerrica some pictures I found online, and from there, let her do her thing. She was incredibly personable and professional, answering all of my questions, making sure I had water and anything I needed as I waited through the process. She went so far as to show me some great products for after care, both from the professional salon brands, and the drugstore side. I never felt pressured or talked down to. The girls that work there, I guess 'don't' work there and are happy to tell you in a really rudely way, to go ask for help from the ladies at the cashiers. I went in looking for a specific curling iron, after searching for it and not finding it I decided to ask for help from an employee. The first lady I asked told me she only works at the skin care and made her way to her section where there was NO customers at all. I looked around and didn't see anyone else so I went up to a girl who was styling hair, I asked her and before I even finished my question she told me she had no idea, without even looking at the picture I was showing her. She straight up told me to go ask the girls at the front desk. I made my way there and the two girls working up front were very busy with a super long line of customers waiting to check out. No one cared to help so I left. I then went across the street to Marshals and found the exact curling iron I was looking for and for a better price also. Ulta Salon at Colma has lost a loyal customer. I have been getting my hair done at Ulta for the past five years or so. I am always satisfied with the results. My poor rating is not a reflection of their hair cut and coloring skills, but due to the lack of professionalism and accountability I experienced when I attempted to make an appointment. I scheduled an appointment for a cut and color on a Friday with any stylist. The day of, I received a call from Ulta saying the stylist was unavailable due to "personal issues". Fine, we all have those days, so I asked of anyone else could see me that day and they said there were no openings. They rescheduled me with the same stylist on Sunday. I accepted, although I thought it was strange because the same thing had happened the last time I made an appointment with them. Sunday morning Ulta called again and said the stylist was still dealing with "personal issues " and could not make the appointment. Since this was the second cancellation on their part, I thought they would accommodate me by having me see someone else. No, they tried to reschedule me with this same person who obviously has a lot on her plate. I flat out refused and asked for the manager. Manager was on vacation. Haven't heard anything since. I went in just to get couple of products but then who knew you can get facials at Ulta. I was in need of one badly so it was perfect. So they have a 10 minute one, 30 minute or an hour. I choose the 30 minute one and it was wonderful! Im so bad at names but she consultants my skin and went step by step. She did a lot of stuff within 30 minute and repair my skin! Afterwards she did introduce me to products of their line (bit pricey but good investment) she was no pushy what so ever and just told me just think about it. It's not a private room and not luxury but honestly I been to luxury facials and this is by far the best facial I ever got. The price you can not beat! Trust me!!! If you just need a quick repair again they have the 10 minute one for 10$! My face was so dry and now it's so fresh and my skin look great just imagine if I got the hour one lol. Received a sales flyer in the mail on 8/28/19. Went the next day 8/29/19 to purchase some items. No salesperson came up to me to help me but asked another person after I walked pass the aisle. Stood in line to pay cashier was rude and abrupt. I was supposed to receive free items from brand name if I purchased a certain amount. A joke! Cashier who actually was the floor manager who was unfriendly and didn't acknowledge me as a customer said they were out. How could they be out if I just received sales flyer. She then substitutes two small bottles of shampoo for my freebie. I wanted makeup that was advertised not shampoo that was people who color their hair. i don't color my hair. Well this will be the last time I go to this store and purchase. If I need something I'll do it online at least I'll get better service and maybe what was promised to me when I purchase something. I set up an appointment with Marianna. Was alittle hesitate since I have trusted people in the past with my hair and haven't been satisfied/happy with the results. I finally came in and shower her what I wanted and gave her exact details of how I wanted my cut. She executed perfectly. I ended up adding peek-a-boo highlights and a deep conditioner that she recommended. She was quick and efficient. What wouldve taken hours if not two sessions somewhere else she did in 1/1.5. Marianna was super patient with me when it came to explaining and confirming with me how much she was going to cut. I am totally coming back to her. I was charged twice for an item because the cashier said my card didn't go through the first time I used it, even though the machine said the first transaction was approved. A few of the works in the makeup section are pretty good, but overall, the employees don't provide good customer service. I live in the city but I found out Jasmine was doing brows at the Benefit Brow Bar at Ultra and I am so happy... It is worth it to drive 30 minutes and deal with traffic to have her do my brows. She is the best brow girl I have found in all my many years of searching. I am very particular about my eyebrows and she did them perfectly, she even improved upon the shape! First I must say I've always loved to shop here I can spend hours here. Last night as I went to do my regular shopping which is usually a couple hundred dollars at a time I was met with one wonderful sales girl it was very helpful. Her name was Abby. She made my shopping so enjoyable she was so helpful and every way. As soon as she left her shift for the evening another young lady took over who is the polar opposite. Her name was Precious. As I asked her to help me she did everything she could to from helping me. She told me she couldn't help me match my bareMinerals color in the tent because I was tanning. Then she proceeded to walk away as she was talking on her ear phone with somebody else never came back. As I was shopping and looking for makeup she pretty much pushed me out of the way when she was looking for something and made me so uncomfortable I even asked her to smile and be happy and she scowled at me. Then I was trying on makeup at the Mac counter. As I looked for Kleenex to wipe my hands with I realized that all the kleenex dispensers at the Mac counter were completely empty. So I informed precious of this and she just gave me a dirty look and walked away from me. Finally, as I was in line waiting to make my purchase, the line grew to halfway across the store. There was only one checking girl there and I timed it there was eight minutes before precious even looked up. I had to pretty much ask her to come over and open her register. This young lady it's absolutely in the wrong business it needs to be dealt with because I will never come shop there if she is the sales girl. She is ruining it for the company and for every other wonderful salesperson there which all of the others are completely amazing. They do have a wide selection of beauty products; I went in because I had a huge coupon, and didn't want to waste it--the customer service is okay, though they definitely don't fall all over themselves in order to proactively help. I Went to the salon for the Breast cancer event (as I have done every year) and sadly got stuck with someone who was unprofessional and did NOT know what she was doing. This girl butchered my F hair! It's very choppy, short, damaged, has gaps and is uneven the list goes on! Sadly I will never participate with Ulta and their salon events again! I will be reporting her to the CA board of barbering and cosmetology!! No refund or compensation can make up for this emotional/physical damage! I've been going to this Ulta location for years and I've always had good customer service up until today. I went in store to return a foundation that didn't work out for me which I had in my pocket along with the receipt - I didn't bother to bring my bag because it's a huge laptop bag and it would be weird carrying a huge bag around Ulta, so I left my bag in my car. I was walking around looking for something that I can possibly exchange for the foundation I was returning until the short asian/filipino woman with ombré blonde hair and glasses came up to me and asked: Ulta worker: Do you need a shopping bag for that item? Me: No, thank you (I wasn't holding anything except my phone) Ulta worker: For that item in your pocket Me: So I fucking yelled, Excuse me? I'm returning this item, do you want to check the receipt? Ulta worker: No YES, BITCH. you ASSUMED WRONG! I work as an engineer - so you better check yourself, homegirl. I was so FUCKING angry, so I asked if she randomly asked people that question and then she walked away with her shopping bags. SO I walked up to the cashier to return my shit and asked if I can talk to the manager, turns out...the woman who had asked that question WAS the fucking manager. Their "manager" does not have management nor communication skills - she did not apologize to me either. Their manager has horrible customer service. **This is just for a salon employee! I love this Ulta store, it's always neat, clean, and full of friendly staff!** Full disclosure: I went to cosmetology school and have higher-than-normal expectations because of that. Sue me. I initially made my appointment online (Thanks, irrational-yet-crippling fear of talking on the phone!) to have a color/signature color/cut. That was as close to "double process/color touchup/cut" as the scheduling system would allow, so I ended up giving them a ring anyways. I booked with a nice-seeming woman named Patricia. I explained that my hair was currently a darker blue, that I wanted to go lighter blue, have my new growth lightened and colored to match, and then get a cut that was suitable for growth. I explained that I had my own personal brand of color that I use and asked if I could bring it in. Everything is found to be acceptable and my appointment is set. I arrive and am promptly seated and caped. All is going well as she begins to lighten my hair. It's itchy and a little bit burn-y, but hey, it's bleach. It does that. A third of the way through, she declares that part of my hair is fully lifted and we need to rinse that portion out before we can continue with the rest, so we do. I'm sat back down with a head full of drippy bleach. Patricia continues her process. After a long while, my hair has finished cooking. We go back to the bowl for a wash. I had purchased an optional conditioning treatment so after snoozing through the most lackluster shampoo, I got some gunk dumped on my head, pulled through to my ends, and combed through. No massage, no heat. Patricia walks away and leaves me sitting in the sink with cold,wet hair for 10 minutes. She comes back and we set off for her chair. Right away, I can tell something is wrong. I've been lifting and coloring my hair for years. I go to a salon because it's just too damn hard and time consuming to do it by myself anymore. My hair is this creamy, buttery yellow with traces of brown in some places, off-white in others, and some weird yellow-gray shade in others still. Patricia does not tone my hair. After a quick dry, Patricia starts applying my color. I brought two jars as it usually takes 1.5 for full coverage, but she manages coverage in just half of one, even with my reminders to use more, use more, use more. During application, Patricia tells me that she doesn't normally do color because she "sucks at it" and that she took my request because I was supplying my own product. Well, gee lady, thanks for telling me that once we're 2/3's of the way through the process! The application is finished. I sit around for a bit letting my color take. Another wash and then the cut. It was adequate. Given what I have to work with, it was good, even. Hair is dried, and the first thing I can see is approx. 1/2" of barely blue hair with a strong yellow cast on the scalp, and a barely darker blue on the rest. I persuaded myself that it was just the light and that I could fix it at home if I needed to, even though I've used this color at least 20 times before and know how it should turn out. Patricia finishes the cut and looks to ME for style guidance. She asks me what products she should use on me. She asks me how I want my hair styled, even after I told her she had free reign. She tells me that she is encouraged to sell products, but has received no training on how to use them properly or marketing them, and that some of the products aren't kept in the salon but are expected to be pushed for purchase. As some one who worked in a Redken salon, I find this whole thing pretty damn ridiculous. Product knowledge is a big part of Redken's culture, something doesn't add up. I end up leaving the salon shortly after. As I'm swiping my card for the $250+ bill, one of the front counter girls hands me some sort of generic, knock off hair product that Ulta hands out to salon services over a certain $$. Oh, goody. I gave the stylist a generous tip (She did work hard and despite her ignorance, I could have easily voiced my displeasure and been seen by another stylist on another day) and just counted myself lucky that I left with all of my hair and it was mostly blue. Will not be coming back to spend $250 on something I am NOT happy with. Will be coming back to buy lots and lots of awesome beauty supplies! read more

I went to Ulta in Colma for the first time last night to get my hair done last minute before my boyfriend got home from the Army. I was booked with Stephanie and she was AWESOME. I am trying to grow my hair out after having a short bob for the past two years. The back is shorter than the front so I wanted to even it out but I didn't want to lose much length anywhere. I brought two pictures for reference and she helped me figure out the best way to even it out without sacrificing too many inches. She also helped me determine what shade of highlights would compliment my coloring best. It's always nice when you sit down in a chair and have a stylist who welcomes a conversation and consultation with you. She gave me her expert opinion while she took into account my ideas. Great listener. She also joked and talked with me throughout the process and made my experience very enjoyable. 5 stars for service 5 stars for knowledge and expertise 5 stars for a gorgeous cut and color! I was not greeted when I entered the door and not a single employee asked if I needed help with anything. When I finally asked an employee for some help she rolled her eyes at me and said I don't know if I can find somebody. When I did get some help I asked for a product and I asked to not be shown the most expensive one and she showed me the most expensive one. I've had decent customer service from cashiers at this establishment before...BUT the manager or associate manager or whatever the f*** she is, needs to attend a few customer service trainings--or perhaps, treat everyone like a human being. Just about all of the ladies I came across were talking about their personal business (kids, what time they're off, etc.) and no one asked me if I needed help. They acted as if the customers that were in the store around 6pm on a Saturday were a nuisance. When they did decide to do their job, they acted as if they were doing a huge favor. Only one of the (maybe 10) employees were friendly. If it can be avoided I'd choose to NEVER ever come back to this Ulta. She spent no more than 10 min on my haircut. When I go to other stylists they spend at least 20-30 min cutting and styling everything. Snip snip and done! My hair looks nothing like the picture I showed her and when I asked to try to fix it she made it worse. Horrible. My bangs are too short now to even fix, I am just gonna have to grow them out. To be honest I was very nervous to get my hair done here. I do not like getting my hair cut at places I am not familiar with but I have heard some good things about Ultas salon so I decided to give it a try. I made an appointment with Diana. I have very long hair yet most of it was dead so she started off by chopping a good 5 inches off of my hair which made me very nervous! She then finishes styling my hair and I noticed a good 8 inches was cut off my hair when all I wanted was a trim. I then got home and noticed HOW AMAZING MY HAIR CUT WAS! I loved the way Diana styled my hair and changed my hair for the better! This review is for Isis and Trisha at the salon. Trisha did an OPI gel manicure for me a month or so ago, and she did a perfect job, my nails looked great and they held up. Isis did my hair, and she did an amazing job, but I forgot to tell her to add a layer to frame my face. I called the next day and the salon said to come in to get her to fix it. She added a layer and fixed it up for me, my hair looks great. I've never received such nice treatment before. Totally went above and beyond. She is so nice and understanding. I got a hair cut by Kirsten a couple months back. She did a decent job. She was very friendly. I got bangs cut but unfortunately she made them much heavier on one side than the other. I've been hiding it ok, but I'd have given 5 stars if her work was a little more precise. I tried going back to her for a trim, but she was booked so I saw Stephanie (I think?) she did a good job, but she didn't trim them quite as short as I asked her too. Considering a bang trim is $12+ a tip I'm not happy that one week later I need another trim. So long story short, I'm looking for someone new. I have been here before about a year ago and had my hair colored by Kiersten. She was amaaaazing. She turned my brassy hair into the golden tones I've wanted. I paid about $150 for an all over color/highlights/balayage. For some reason, I decided to go to Structure a few months later cause I wanted something different and ashier. Heard so many good reviews about the place, so I said, why not? Worst. Mistake. Ever. Had a guy do the complete opposite of what I wanted. For $140, I sat in a chair for six hours, with the transition from my natural hair to the highlights soooo harsh, and my hair drier than it has ever been. I came back to Ulta and asked for help in fixing the guy's mess a few months later. The salon manager, Dee, was truly amazing. In less than an hour, she turned my choppy colored hair into the ashy brown color I wanted in the first place. All while helping my friend out right next to me. We were both out in less than an hour. My hair came out even healthier than I came in with! I was scared I had to chop off my ends, but I didn't! And the cost of toning my hair? $60!!!! I went to exchange and figured it wouldn't be a problem since I just wanted to swap for another color. These ladies were so rude and belittling. They said that because I didn't have a receipt it would ring for the lowest price. So I asked them to ring it and she said $39. Then she frowned and said she needed to bring a manager.
