I was genuinely excited to bring my girlfriend to Ulta for her first real makeup shopping experience. I'd talked it up for days, imagining we'd get to browse, ask questions, and have fun finding products together. Unfortunately, that's not how it went. We walked the store hoping for a little guidance, but getting anyone to help felt impossible. The few interactions we did have came across as dismissive and rude, leaving us feeling more like an inconvenience than customers. Makeup can be intimidating when you're new, and a little kindness goes a long way. Instead, we left feeling defeated. We decided to head over to Sephora instead, and the experience couldn't have been more different. Someone immediately took the time to answer questions, make my girlfriend feel comfortable, and help her find products she loved. We ended up spending over $600 not because we planned to, but because great customer service built confidence and trust. Products can be found anywhere. The experience is what keeps people coming back. I truly hope this Ulta location invests more in customer service because first impressions matter, and ours was one of the most disappointing shopping experiences we've had. read more

The very first time I came in this store I felt very uncomfortable I tried to ask for some help finding a brand but when I asked I was pointed to the area it was located at. As I continued to look at the products I was watched like a hawk and the women were watching me and whispering to each other. They never asked me if I needed help. I was very uncomfortable and left.I have been back 2 more times and the vibe is not good. Yesterday I decided was enough not going back to this location. I didn't even make my purchase. read more

I don't know what's up with this Ulta but someone the attendants were very rude. I was trying a tester and one literally came up to me and asked if I was going to "buy that." Not in a helpful way. Ulta Beauty is one of my favorite places to stock up on beauty supplies and I'm usually here weekly. They have a great selection and some great deals when they have a sale! I went into ulta for their black Friday deals to shop around and to find a little gift for myself. I was roaming the store trying to figure out what I could add to my makeup collection without breaking the bank. And I felt like this particular employee was following me. I come into this store very often and have spent money everytime I go in. While I was looking at the brushes they had on sale I turned around to ask for a price check and the employee who had been following me was mouthing something to her manager and pointing at me. She completely treated me like I was stealing!I felt very uncomfortable and went straight to the checkout to purchase my stuff and leave. I will be going to a different ulta from now on! read more

Why do the employees here follow me around like I'm stealing or something. It's extremely uncomfortable. They are constantly asking if I need help and every time Ive gone to this location, I have to repeatedly tell them I am just browsing or that I dont need any help. If I needed help I would ask. I understand asking when I walk into the store and then checking in again maybe. But asking me 5-6 times is really irritating. Like stop following me every where I go. I recently had one of the makeup artist help me find a new foundation. I usually use Mac Makeup but was too lazy to drive to the Summit Mall. She matched me with an Urban Decay foundation. I only wear heavy makeup when I actually go out, so needless to say I have used this product only twice. Each time I used it, it looked gray on my face. With enough blending, contouring and blush, I made the color work but for $40.00 I felt that this wasn't worth the effort. Sadly, I will not be buying another foundation from Urban Decay. I came back to Ulta, package and original receipt in hand. I gave the cashier my Ulta Rewards number and was promptly given a refund to my card. I always appreciate shopping at a place that truly guarantees customer satisfaction on their products. While I won't be purchasing foundation here, I will continue to shop for my other beauty items. read more

So it was after closing which I didn't know. Most stores close at 7. Ulta closes at 6. That's fine. So I come up to the big rotating doors, and I try to push them, a thin girl with short black hair yells something and points to the little door. So I go to open the little door. And she fails her arms, waves her broom and says "dude what is WRONG WITH YOU!" So I don't know what to think. I leave. I look up their hours. They're closed. All she had to say is we are closed. Even a motion. Even shaking your head. Dont tell me to go to the other door just so you can yell at me. That's it. Work on your mental health. read more

Let me say that the customer service I experienced yesterday was above and beyond my expectations. I've shopped at Ulta (in CA) on multiple occasions to buy gifts for family/friends but never for myself. So this visit was a little unusual. I'm in desperate need of a new skincare regimen . Since relocating here to Reno my flawless, soft and evenly complexion skin has transformed into a blemished (black spot), uneven and roughly textured skin. There were two ladies who were so knowledgeable of the products and helpful in identifying products for my specific needs. So sorry I can't remember your names & you two definitely deserve a shoutout. One worked at Clinique in the past and the other young lady had short curly hair. Anyhow I was thoroughly impressed to learn that you are not simply salespersons, you actually have a good breadth of knowledge of your products. This review is for their salon. I booked someone who was supposed to be a Pro for a Signature haircut. Although she was very friendly, I felt like she did the bare minimum. I was guiding her through the haircut. She barely blow dry my hair and didn't even style it. I was her first customer that day and I felt she was already done for the day. Then when I got home I felt a rat tail on the back of my head! So I had to ask my husband to fix my haircut and he found more sides were uneven. If she was a pro, I think she should've know how to cut hair evenly. That's pretty much the most basic requirement to be a hairstylist. read more

Went in today and was followed around the store by a woman that was working in a lab coat. I visit this store multiple times a month and i can't believe this happened. I was trying to buy a product and was looking within aisles and the lady kept bringing a giant cart to every aisle i would enter. I ended up darting across the store to get away from her and there was another lady that kept asking if i needed any help. I ended up buying a few basics of drugstore makeup and going to Sephora instead for my other products. It's distasteful to make customers uncomfortable while they are buying things. Honestly one of the worst experiences ever. Teach workers customer service !! Plus this store rarely has anything good btw ! Always out of stock of popular items, they don't do samples anymore, and the lady that was following me around didn't even know a popular brand when i asked if they had it. Whenever i go it's usually just no service or bad service. You'd have better luck going to south Reno location or ordering online or just going to the Sephora in the same parking lot. read more

Always fully stocked on things I need. Fast and friendly customer service. Went into buy some stocking stuffers. There's a variety of products from hair, nails to skin care. If you're unsure of what you need or where to get started ask one of the ladies at the counter and they will point you to the right direction. Ulta Beauty is moderately priced. The lowest cost for and item I have seen is 5$ and highest is 150$. Remember to sign up for the rewards program as you get birthday gifts and annual discounts. read more

I went to Ulta to exchange two products that were color matched wrong two weeks prior. Jennifer(at least that was the name on the receipt) helped me, and she was amazing. She helped me find the right color by color matching and spent a lot of time with me helping me locate the perfect products. She helped me exchange two, and assisted me in finding 3 additional products. She had great customer service, and was more than happy to help answer all of my questions. I am giving a good overall because overall I get great service and help there. Kayla is THE BOMB not only with brows but also with helping find the right products. Other ladies there are great to help and seem to have a lot of knowledge about most all of the products. HOWEVER - the salon is a different story. Went for a hair cut. Now I do have very thick hair and it was long. I took pictures of the kind of thing I was looking for - I don't think anyone listened really. The haircut was, in the end, nothing like what I was trying to achieve and also about 3" shorter than we had agreed on - AND uneven - and this haircut took 3 HOURS (no blow dry just a haircut - I was party to that decision I just wanted out of there after 3 freaking hours). I was so unhappy with the results (I don't know when I have ever left a hair appointment before this one feeling ugly) the very next morning I was at another salon to get it fixed (and even they were quite astonished at the lack of technique, evenness and such). So not only did hair done by Ulta cost me $57 - I find out (too late into the process) that the person cutting my hair must have been very very newly graduated from beauty school. While there was another woman there to help her with questions and such - it wasn't enough guidance and even she apparently did not notice the misses with the cut. While I agree that new stylists need practice and experience - I just think (a) the customer should be told that prior to being subjected to an amateur haircut so they have the choice to participate in education and take a chance or not and (b) maybe not charge $57 dollars for a haircut by an amateur. I am not naming names because I know people need to learn - but Ulta needs to take better care in their Salons if they are hiring unexperienced stylists to guide and mentor them constantly so a customer does not walk out and get in her car and cry (and trust me they could both tell I was not happy with the haircut and end result). I now have a great haircut fixed by a salon across the street and for LESS money - I left THAT salon practically dancing. Ulta and staff in Northwest Reno are great for everything else you need in the way of beauty - I just highly recommend getting your hair done somewhere else. read more

Well today was a hard day at my local ulta. My mom is gonna be visiting me for Christmas and I came in to try stuff on to get my wishlist together. Back home we only shop at sephora and are both VIB rouge because we love makeup. My mom loves it, but I'm the real fanatic. I'm an only child. Very spoiled. My mom always indulges this passion of mine. Which is why I'm so sad by my recent experience because my other experiences have been overwhelmingly good. It's not good though going into the busiest time of year in terms of sales for a retailer to get it SO wrong. I had found some brushes. I asked to see the testers of them so I could feel them. I was the most interested in an "it cosmetic" brush for cream and powder. I have a Chanel silicon based cream bronzer that I want to use it with. Right now it's my Laura mercier brush from when I freelanced, it's more than 10 years old but in great shape. I really just wanted something to throw in my crazy purse that would stay nice and was small. Anyways, I was refused the option of feeling the limited edition holiday brush by it cosmetics . Instead she tried to talk down to me and tell me about the product in order to sell it after I repeated to her, I was not going to buy a brush I can't feel first. Is that really that crazy? As a veteran makeup artist, I'm not gonna know I love the brush until I feel it and fluff it. I don't need to use it I just wanted to fan it to feel the density of the bristles. I know exactly what I'm looking for, but I need to feel it. The whole premise and success of a store like ulta and/sephora is this experience. Try before you buy. I'm so easy, I have a list in mind of what I want before I even get in the store. I clean up after myself. And I use testers hygienically. All I asked for was to feel a tester. Because I was unhappy with her she then made a point to interrupt me multiple times while I was trying on makeup. I wasn't using the brushes and she took them away. Then when I needed a brush there was no associate around, so I cleaned a brush and used it. Then another associate came over to take the brush away rather than offer assistance to apply the becca compact. She came simply stated the brush was for employees and walked away.... okay if that's store policy I understand. But how was I supposed to try on the powder compact she interrupted me using-face half done? I'm baffled by the lack of customer service because I contradicted this power hungry manager. She was in a dear santa sweater and I'm pretty sure she called herself the creative director. Honestly, if she is in a leadership position I fear you are losing business. In terms of how to train your employees better it seems pretty simple. If they legitimately do not have the ability to make a tester of the brush or it didn't send one, explain that... don't just say no. It's too much because I KNOW "it cosmetics" would be appalled by her behavior. And the other associate, I assume acting under her direction to make me feel bad about using a brush they didn't feel was appropriate is a reflection on your stores lack of leadership and customer service training. If I'm gonna spend a few hundred dollars and my mom easily double that in any given visit to a beauty store, we expect a lot more. There are three ulta stores in town, the Mae Anne location is next to the dog park and was my favorite. Sephora is in south Reno, so I almost always go to ulta first. Now, I'm considering making the drive to sephora or trying a different ulta. I hope this is helpful from a training perspective. read more

I've been a platinum member to Ulta for years. One of the fun perks is getting coupons for free samples. They "couldn't find" the sample for the coupon I had. No problem, EVERY single time that had happened they always give me another sample to make up for it. This specific location said no. It's not a big deal but it's the kind gesture and great customer service. I'll avoid this unfriendly location. read more

This location recently opened up within the last year. Conveniently, it's much closer to my house than the other location. The staff is on top of it and always willing to help! I was looking for a new moisturizer for my face but didn't know of any good brands. A lady named Michaela pointed me in the direction of a brand called Dermalogica. She spent adequate time with me going over their trial size package. I learned a lot about my skin type and what I should be doing to take care of my skin! Michaela was very patient with me and answered every question in detail. The moisturizer she recommended for me to try has improved my skin within a week! Even my blemishes have shown great improvement with this product I wouldn't have known about if it weren't for Ulta's staff. There is only one MINOR complaint I could possibly think of (which isn't even a real complaint). I was supposed to get a spot treatment on my face with Michaela and she mentioned I would get a reminder text. I didn't get a reminder text but I did get a phone call 15 minutes after my appointment was supposed to be asking if I wanted to reschedule since I had missed the appointment. I think that was a mistake on both of our ends -- mine for not writing down the appointment in my agenda and their mistake for not sending me a reminder text like I was told... Nonetheless, I still enjoy coming to this location. read more

Ok Ulta is like Toys R Us for grown ups chicks with make up! Awesome selection of make up from cheap to super spendy. Wait for the sales on hair products and join their rewards club for extra discounts. Talk to the ladies in the beauty bar and they can help with whatever ails you. My only complaint is the pilferage. I hate finding empty boxes stuffed in corners and behind stuff obviously with the product being stolen. This seems rampant in all of their stores. read more

What's not to like about a massive store of Beauty supplies! It's a chain so there are a few Ultas in the Reno area. This locations is in Northwest (maybe) side of town. Located in the the same strip mall as Safeway, Ross, European Wax Center just to name a few landmarks. The staff is very friendly. They also have a salon on property. I've never tried the services but they always seem to be running a promotion. This week is 5X reward points; I think. If you forget your in-the-mail coupon you're out of luck. The in store circular doesn't have the coupon. The Ulta app will not have the coupon. So remember to bring the snail mail coupon. I find the rewards program confusing but then again I only stop in once a quarter. They might be getting some new product lines because the shelves seemed picked over. Many of the Ulta products seemed to be on clearance. I'm sure I'll be back next quarter; if I'm in that part of town. read more

I want to preface this by saying that I am 17 and work in customer service. In no way am I trying to be a Karen, be unnecessarily picky, or drag this lady. I'm just super unhappy with my experience. I went for a hair appointment and it started out bad. The lady was super rude and made it clear that she did not want to be there. I came in with my mother and we noticed right of the bat that she was questionable. My mom was reluctant to leave me there, as planned, because I was very obviously uncomfortable. This woman snapped at her that she had to leave immediately. She then proceeded to be short, snappy, rude, etc. towards me. She ordered me around and made me feel stupid for not knowing exactly what she expected me to do (this was my first time getting my hair cut "professionally" because I happen to be broke). She ignored/cut me off when I asked questions or attempted to make polite small talk. She was very judgmental about the shampoo brand I used, telling me I should know to use something better. As if I don't already know my usual brand is shitty. If I could afford something better I probably would have gone to a better stylist. I felt as though she was assuming I had the proper resources and was being ignorant. When it came time for the actual haircut I explained exactly what I wanted and showed multiple pictures. I will admit I am not a professional and I don't know too much about hair. But I did know the basic names of the things I wanted and what they meant, and had several photographs that showed what I wanted it to look like. She was very judgmental and acted like I had no idea what I was asking for. It gave off the same vibe as coffee guys who will call you ignorant for enjoying caramel mochas because they "know their coffee" and "that isn't real coffee" but with hair, if that makes sense. She did some things somewhat similar to what I asked for, and I was trying to stay positive and trust the process. She rushed through and stopped multiple times to go do other things. I ended up with what I can only describe as a 90s housewife bob when I had asked for shoulder length hair, choppy layers, and curtain bangs. The pictures I showed were edgy/alternative styles. I felt very judged and uncomfortable and wasn't really able to speak up when I started to dislike it. I took off a lot of length and completely changed the style. This was a big change for me and I feel like she ignored everything I asked for and did what she wanted instead. After I had gotten up and taken all the towels off, she decided she didn't like it and trimmed more hair off while it was dry, getting hair pieces all over me and my clothes. I didn't feel like I could say no. I convinced myself that it was the way she had styled it and that if I fixed it it would be more like what I wanted. I thanked her, said I liked it, and then did a walk of shame to the car where I contemplated just saying "fuck it" and shaving my head. It looked so gross I wanted to cry. After a wash and styling it the way I wanted, I saw a small amount of improvement and have made peace with it until it grows out and and I can fix it by myself. I'm just really pissed cause I feel like I paid $45 plus a guilt tip for this lady to make me feel like shit for existing and butcher my hair. So yeah. This is a warning for anyone considering getting there hair done here. read more
