How have I not reviewed this place? Oh, this is easily one of our favorite sushi restaurants in town. Literally everything is so good. We have ordered countless times. The Rock n Roll is my favorite. We love their new-er addition of the meals like chicken teriyaki and katsu chicken bento boxes. They have been fantastic options for our kiddos who don't eat sushi. You can't go wrong here. Never had we had a poor experience. We've tried other sushi places, and they generally all pale in comparison to Umami Sushi. read more

Came here for lunch. Place was pretty full but still had enough spots. Service was attentive and friendly. Ambience is inviting, relaxing and pleasant. Food is pretty good. They had lunch specials where you can get 3 rolls and a soup or salad, and bento box. I was able to substitute for brown rice. Sushi rolls were decent but not sure if that's something I ordered but they weren't great. I would like to try other things next time. read more

Came here Saturday night for dinner. The restaurant was pretty busy but service was good and the wait time wasn't bad. Ambiance was inviting with nicely painted koi fish on the wall. I liked that they had a few tables outside for outdoor dining. All the sushi rolls we had were decent but I didn't like how they were cut their rolls. It's on the bigger side which made it a little difficult to eat but besides that I would definitely come back to try other items. We had the lobster roll (which I didn't really taste the lobster), Mexican roll (probably my least favorite), volcano roll and spicy girl roll. It is inside a strip mall, so it is quite deceiving from the outside. Inside is a restaurant that seats about 50 people very comfortably. The atmosphere is quiet with soft music in the background. The menu is quite varied with items made by the sushi chefs as well as the kitchen The entrees come with a salad and miso soup. While the salad is generic with lettuce with a sesame dressing the miso soup is quite nice. Umami Sushi is such a hidden gem. I love starting with the shrimp shumai, it's always hot, flavorful, and perfectly steamed. The Crab Ocean Roll is a must try, made with real crab and so yummy you can taste the difference. The space is small and intimate, which makes it feel cozy and welcoming, and it's honestly a great family friendly sushi spot. The service is always attentive and friendly, making the whole experience even better. Definitely a place I keep coming back to. read more

Ordered lunch from Umami thru DoorDash Spicy Tuna Roll California Roll Green Salad with Ginger Dressing And 1 Diet Coke Everything was delivered except the Diet Coke As any sushi lover knows - what you have to drink to pair with the Sushi is very important It is clear from looking at the screenshot of the receipt that Umami notated the Diet Coke by circling it on the receipt However no refund or explanation was given for the missing Diet Coke DoorDash refused to refund for the missing Diet Coke even though it was clearly ordered and paid for was not included in the order by Umami I also contacted Umami and received no reply It is a fail on Umami's part for not including the drink to begin with as DoorDash can only deliver what they are given by the restaurant However once DoorDash has been made aware of the problem they could have at least partially rectified by just refunding the missing item but the refused to do so Then Umami fails again after DoorDash refused to refund for missing item as Umami never replied back to inquiry - and because none of this would have happened had they just included the drink that was ordered and clearly on order and receipt that they attached to the delivery bag read more

Our first visit after relocating to North Tampa...sushi, vino, and service were all excellent. We started with Crab Rangoon and then enjoyed 3 entrees- Coconut Shrimp Roll, NY Roll, and Paint Lady Roll, all were wonderful and a great mix of flavors and texture. This is always my go-to for lunch if I'm craving sushi. There lunch sushi special is awesome and you have a a choice of 2 sushi rolls or 3 with soup OR salad. Ingredients always taste fresh and service is pretty decent. I've gotten food to go a couple times and it tastes just as good as if you're sitting in the restaurant. Absolutely 5 Stars. If I could give 7 stars I would. If you follow me on Yelp or have read any of my reviews, service is important to me. Service was perfect. I had the Sushi Dinner which was was 9 Nigiri and a Tuna roll. I also had a Yellow Tail Hand roll and Surf Clam nigiri. Also included Soup and Salad. My wife had 2 rolls, a Volcano roll where she substituted shrimp for tuna. She does not eat raw fish and a Rock N Roll roll. She said it was the best Volcano roll she has since Kaisen sushi in Carrollwood closed. She also had the Gyoza soup which I tasted and it was amazing. I will have to have that next time. Searching for some sushi, while I was in Tampa for work. Reviews for Usami sushi were really strong so I thought we would give it a whirl . I'm really glad I did. Service was fabulous, in the menus had some really interesting items on it.. But would you really want to know about the food: Crab Rangoon - excellent appetizer Volcano - not sure why it is called volcano, but it came with spicy tuna and avocado. We stopped in to grab a bite. I got a chicken and steak hibachi dinner and ordered a fried California roll. The dinner came with clear soup and salad as well. It was good. The steak was slightly over cooked to my taste but still good. The veggies were crisp. It was so much food I should never have ordered the California roll. I ended up bringing most of it home. I also couldn't eat the fried rice that came with the dinner. I was so full. It was delicious. One of my dinner guest got a Bento box. Gyoza, tempura shrimp roll, fried rice, crab Rangoon, teriyaki steak, veggies. She absolutely loved the Crab Rangoon!! The steak was really good, the veggies were a bit too raw. Honestly this just sucks, my girlfriend just got out of the hospital today and all she wanted was some sushi after she got out and every piece of her 8 piece roll of Salmon Avocado had thick and chewy skin on the salmon making it inedible. 3 things about this place: 1. Nice clean restaurant with professional employees. Was seated right away when I arrived and one of the waiter greeted me with a warm smile. My waitress was very friendly and was fast with everything. 2. Hibachi steak from the lunch menu along with Rock N Roll were ordered. For a lunch special, the portion was generous and will fill some people definitely. Every quality seemed fresh which was a plus. 3. Salad with ginger dressing came out first after ordering and the sauce was too sweet for my taste. I wish they could reduce the sweetness from the dressing because it overpowers the dressing. The fried rice from the hibachi was very bland. Too little of seasoning that it wasn't flavorful at all. The yum yum sauce they give you with the hibachi was too sweet as well. On the other hand, the hibachi was a bit too salty and feel like they used a lot of sauce to give the taste, which was not good. Lastly, the Rock N Roll was bland as well along with the sauces on top. The roll was good and fresh but was missing something to make it perfect. Overall, great staff and great quality of foods but if they can balance some of the dishes and the ingredients, then they will definitely do great! read more

Kicking this off, would I go back, yes. I definitely would go back. I would try some diffenent things but what I did have was all fresh and good. Cucumber salad: it's not your typical sesame cucumber salad. While it was ok I would try something else. 3* Pot Stickers: these were great and I would order again. 4.5* Sushi: both rolls were good. I would try diffeeent rolls. Tempura was standard so if you like tempura go for it but there isn't anything unique about it. The person I was with for the chicken bento box and said she would order again. The entrance/main door is actually off to the side under the hard structure roofing - you walk through a small section of the outdoor seating patio to get to it. It must be noted that this review and experience is based on the following factors: - The review is written strictly for the American hibachi experience. The restaurant does offer other a la carte options if you don't want the "showmanship" and flair with your dining experience. - A reservation was made through Open Table. I highly recommend making a reservation beforehand. This was purposeful and intentional due to the occasion, and I wanted to make sure we were locked in. I feel that this also made for a smoother seating process as the restaurant had to prepare the table and chef. All in all from arrival to getting seated, we waited no more than 10 minutes after our entire party was present. - There were 12 individuals in our party which also accounted for the prompt seating (I believe you are paired and tetris'd with other guests for smaller parties). 12 is the max that a table can host - anything more will require multiple tables. I want to emphasize at this point how Kobe Japanese Steakhouse is suited for large parties. Most, if not all, the individuals in our party have not had American hibachi for as long as we can remember. We also had children in our party. Taking this all into account, it turned out to be the perfect venue for any type celebratory events (business outings, birthdays, baby showers, etc.) I could not recommend this place enough if you want an "easy winner" to delight the group. Now let's talk about the food and the chef. The quality and taste definitely exceeded our expectations. The food was cooked perfectly and the meats were extremely tender and flavorful. While not the most animated of the chefs there, our particular chef was very attentive to our needs. He ensured that our meal was enjoyable and delicious. Pricing-wise, you're looking at an average cost of $30 to $40 per individual. Overall service was not bad - the most important part was that everyone was welcoming and friendly. I was excited by the great reviews on Yelp -- and was so happy that this place lived up to the hype! The fish was excellent -- fresh, well cut, super tasty. The toro was rich and delicious, the salmon and snapper fresh and pure, and as noted by others, the seasoned sushi rice with the accoutrements in the bowl (seaweed salad, thinly sliced pickled radish and carrot, and masago) made for an elevated lunch. I really appreciated the flexibility and options around my celiac disease (sushi can be tough because of the wheat in most soy sauce) -- including the kind note they attached saying the subbed some extra toro and masago for the Iburi which had been marinated in soy sauce. Lastly, I usually much prefer to eat-in for sushi (a sushi bar is my 2nd home), but really appreciate the details they put into the Uber Eats takeout package -- dressed it nice with shiso leaf and shaved radish AND have it all placed on little ice packs to keep the fish cold on their commute from the Chef's Knife to my belly. Great experience overall.
