I didn't realize this was a tiny storefront when I decided to meet my friend here. I typically go to the Mountain View location on Castro which is huge. There's about 3 tiny tables outside but we were able to snag a table. You can order from the kiosk or from their website online. I opted for the mango pomelo and sago drink. Which tasted exactly how I expected it. Also got some fried tofu and popcorn chicken. The fried tofu was very tasty for not even having a dipping sauce and I ordered the non spicy version too. My friend's daughter gobbled it up. The popcorn chicken wasn't exactly popcorn pieces, there were some strips of chicken and some pieces were a bit dry. It's not my favorite popcorn chicken but it's decent. My friend opted for a surprise in her cup and got some gray stuffed animal. I don't know how some of these boba shops survive in these plazas. There are a handful in this one alone. But all in all, I would come back to grab tea or some more fried tofu. I also noticed when ordering your drink you can opt for a snack bowl of tofu or popcorn chicken for $4.99. Ume is a pretty good option for boba in Cupertino. It's in a very cute area with lots of shops and restaurants. They have some good options in terms of drinks, especially if you love sweets like me. Personally I like their drinks but don't love them, and there are other spots nearby that I prefer when I'm craving boba. Wait times are unfortunately a bit long even when there aren't many people there, so I'd recommend ordering online ahead of time. You also have the option of getting a "Bunny Surprise Cup" where you tear away the bottom of your cup to reveal a small plushie animal. Super cute and makes for a fun added experience in addition to getting your drink! read more

I liked how there was different tea options to choose from for the Surprise drink. I choose to go with the Brown Sugar Milk Tea with 50% sweetness, and thought it was perfect for my tastebuds. Their boba was good chewy texture. When you tear the little compartment apart to get your plush, it does not affect your drink. But take a bit of care to not spill out of the lid (like me!) I was manifesting to get one of the bears, and I got a cute white bear! This is a fun activity to do with your family and friends, with some good laughs and 'Awwww's. The storefront is small, and decorated with pink accents and bunnies. You have 3 options to place your order, but they are all self-order: online, QR code scan, or tablet at the front counter. I got a prompt and text message saying they would text me when my order was ready. After 15-20 mins of waiting and browsing nearby stores, I didn't receive any updated texts. I asked one of the employees about my order, and it turns out, my drinks were done already. He apologized, and I do understand it was a busy time on the weekend. Hope for improvements though! I won a giveaway to redeem a bunny surprise milk tea! There's a few locations around the Bay, and closest one where I live is Cupertino. So I drove there and got kinda lost locating where the store is at. It took me like 5 min to find the place, and there was already a line going pass the door when I got there. Inside was small, but there were three workers, so the line went pretty fast. I got a brown sugar milk tea with boba, and I was happy that they still have these surprise cups, since I heard that it's out of stock at some locations. I haven't had milk tea in so long, and I forgot how good it tasted. As for the plushie, idk how the workers put it inside the cup, cause it was so hard to get it out. Stopped by here for the second time because I heard they had drinks that came with a surprise at the bottom. For a weekend, the wait wasn't nearly as bad as it was the last time I stopped by here (less than 10 minutes). You order at the iPad in the front, and they'll call your name when the order is ready (last time I was here, they would send you a text when your order is finished). I was worried about the Bunny Surprise Milk Tea - it wasn't on their usually menu but appeared on the TV screen in their shop that rotated through different promotional items. In the promotional picture it showed the drink cup with lipstick next to it, so I was also worried that it would come with lipstick instead of a plushie at the bottom. I was surprised to find that the iPad had several different drink options for the Bunny Surprise - there were four options including house milk tea with boba and Oreo milk tea with boba. I ended up getting the Oreo one (with 0% sugar since this drink already sounded SO sweet - after tasting it, I still think this was the right move). The total ended up being $9.20, so you're definitely paying for the keychain with the price of this drink. I actually enjoyed the drink even though it was like drinking a dessert - I don't know the exact ingredients, but there was some salty creaminess that made the drink really tasty. To get the surprise, there's a separate compartment at the bottom of the drink cup that you tear open. I waited until I was done with my drink to tear it open since I didn't want to have ti carry around a cup with a rip at the bottom and was worried about the structural integrity if I were to try to put it down. Ended up getting a cute keychain plushie of a bird with really rosy cheeks! If you're into this types of gimmicks, I definitely think it's worth getting this drink at least once. read more

Ume Tea was one of my favorite boba shops last summer but after multiple attempts at this location in Cupertino, it hasn't held its place on my list. Their milk based drinks have way too much milk. The ratios seem off compared to other Ume locations. Their Strawberry Matcha Milk Tea has the most minuscule amount of strawberry, and this was during two separate visits. There was no noticeable trace of tea either. Their Strawberry Pomelo Sago is served with crunchy ice which makes for a weird textural experience when combined with the chewy sago and pomelo pulp. My latest drink from here was the Strawberry Latte w/ Coconut Pudding, which was previously my go-to order for a long time. Unfortunately it had an odd, unpleasant sour taste to it. Kind of like a young coconut that was spoiled. I've also tried two of their chicken menu items. Their popcorn chicken isn't bad, you can adjust the spice level and their seasoning blend is good. Portion size is also generous. They also have Fry Chicken Fillet for a few dollars less and just as good. So we saw an Instagram post where you can get a plushy on the bottom of a cup of tea at Ume in Milpitas but then realized they have an Ume Tea here in Cupertino that offered the drink as well. Daughter wanted the plushy and I of course was happy to oblige since it meant I could have tea! Got 2 Bunny Surprise Milk Teas - one was a regular milk tea and the other was their Peach Oolong Milk Tea. HIGHLY recommend the Peach Oolong Milk tea - had much more flavor and was great that I could control the sweet (went for 30%). Note - that their bunny surprise milk teas come with a whipped cream on top. Hubby is lactose intolerant and had to have the whip cream taken off. That might have been the reason why his drink was more bland? I will say getting the plushy out was super easy and simple as they have a bit of a cut out that you just follow along and the plushy can then be pulled out. What a novel idea! It's a little confusing - no one helps you "order" - you order yourself on a screen. Took me a while to find the Surprise Bunny Milk Tea and to understand I could choose a particular tea and can adjust sweetness on any of them. There didn't seem to be a way to say no whipped cream though so I guess you just have to grab a worker and tell them. Not sure if I like this "customer no interaction" type of service. I still tipped but am thinking... why bother? I'm super excited to go back though and try their purple rice milk tea. I got hooked on purple rice milk tea when I was in Hawaii and am always looking for something similar. Would be nice if they offered an ube variety but will try their regular one and see how it is. I was also starving so I got an order of their popcorn chicken with mild spice. Um. Think I will go with NO spice. OMG - talk about burn. Wonder if mild is one shake vs multiple shakes of the spice? I'd rather add my own level next time. BUT on a positive - LOTS of juicy, crunchy chicken. Really hit the spot and I had to down my tea to get rid of the too much spice - LOL. The thing about the Bunny Surprise Milk Tea is you really do not get a lot of tea as most of the cup has the plushy on the bottom... so just be aware that it's way less than typical. read more
