This place is good don't get me wrong.... But my last visit will sadly probably be my last. First of all I'm really not trying to be mean. But the girl working in the front (don't know her name at all) just didn't have the mental capacity to handle her job. She was so confused and disoriented that she didn't even know what she was doing, and kept looking around like she was very confused. Our order was right in front of her. She looked at it. Picked it up then asked the guy in the back of the food was ready (you're holding it?) and he was like yea it's right there... then she started at us confused, took a whole 2 minutes and then handed us the food. Just such a weird vibe. Now for the reason I probably won't come back. As I was waiting inside the store, the strongest smell of urine (pee) was going thru the whole store. I kept gagging and finally grabbed my drink. And I couldn't even finish my drink because the pee smell was so strong I could smell it after I left... idk if it was the marketplace or the actually store that smelled, but it was so bad I wouldn't go back. I was craving for a boba tea and was kind of surprised to have this place pop up on my searches as I'm always shopping at 99 Ranch market every other week in the same vicinity but never noticed Ume. I went ahead and ordered Red Bean Milk tea- half sweet and a Chicken sandwich. The drink was really good - not too sweet and the sandwich was tasty. It was made on a bread instead of the regular hamburger buns and the kimchi gave that extra kick. I really loved the chicken pieces in it too. We came upon this place after eating Tasty Pot! There's a good selection of drinks and food as well! I ordered at the kiosk and the drinks were set on a table, so no interaction with the staff. Took about 5 minutes to get 3 drinks, so not a bad wait at all. I got the Creme Brûlée Milk Tea with Pearl, and it was pretty good. The boba texture is nice and chewy, and I think the milk tea balanced out the creme brûlée very well. The mochi red bean milk tea has a lot going on, but all surprisingly works well together. It has a mochi layer and a red bean layer, we added boba to it. Only downside is the mochi is warm, so the drink stayed lukewarm for a while. The small cup is a regular and only $0.80 to upgrade to a bigger cup, which I recommend. Drinks were not life changing, but definitely a solid choice! read more

Ordering Process/Wait Time (1/5): We stopped by on New Year's Eve around 7 PM. There is one ordering tablet that took awhile for us to change the menu to English from Chinese/Taiwanese (?) and is not very touch sensitive. It also didn't have all the topping option like the cheese top so we had to ask the cashier to add it on manually to the drink label. He told us our 3 drinks would take 15 minutes so we drove to Anh Hong to pick up our dinner; it takes 7 mins to get there one way so by the time we get back, our drinks should be ready right? Wrong, I had to wait about 45 minutes in the store and had to ask 4 times about my drinks. Two of the drinks have been ready and just sitting in the bag but for some reason. The 3rd one wasn't. It looked like they were super backed up by Doordash orders which they prioritized over in store orders. This was our first time here and it was a horrible experience. Drinks (3.5/5): Mango Pomelo Sago ($5.25): My dad liked his drink and said it was a good level of sweetness. White Peach Oolong Tea Regular Ice & Sugar: This was the one we asked them to add the cheese top on the label which they did BUT still forgot to add. We had to ask them for it so they gave us it in the Togo container. The tea itself was watered down since I'm assuming it's been sitting for over an hour. It only tasted good with the cheese top. Sticky Rice & Taro Milk Tea Light Ice & Sweet ($4.95): This is a winter special drink which was the better of the two we tried. It was good & reminded me of the black rice milk tea at Cha Express. *COVID-19 Review* Came here on a whim, never had Ume Tea before. To start off, the layout for this place is so cute with the pink bunny aesthetics. It's pretty small and hard to find but it's in the same plaza as 99 Ranch, right next to a Chinese restaurant. Place has self-order kiosk at the front to select your items while you pay using the payment processing system near the cashier. There's also QR codes to scan on the window. Pick up is near the front counter (to the left). Just find your order number and the bag that belongs to you. Menu-wise, there appears to be a wide variety, ranging from fruit teas, coconut-milk drinks, and classic milk teas. They also offer different coconut-jelly dessert options. We finally decided on the Strawberry Green Tea with Cheese Topping and Lychee Jelly with full sweetness. Our drink took a while to make because staff were bombarded with several large orders; place seems pretty busy. Drink itself was well-made, blended with the perfect combination of sweet and savory. 100% sweet or full sweetness was not overly sweet, just right for our tastebuds. Strawberry flavor also did not taste artificial. Overall, drinks seem to be of good quality here, at least better than average. Would definitely come back after the pandemic ends to see how the other drinks compare. Only concern right now is that the social distancing procedures are a bit lax. It's not strictly enforced seeing that many people come in and out of the shop, and many stay in the store to wait for their order. read more

This place had decent reviews on DoorDash so I decided to order lunch and a drink from here. I ordered the Brown Sugar Pearl Milk Tea. I'm quite disappointed in this one as I think it lacks lots of the tea flavor. For it being brown sugar flavored, I expected a sweet drink. This was not the case. It tastes like they mixed creamer with water and added a little bit of sugar. I also ordered the pork belly rice dish. While all the flavors are there, the food arrived cold. You also have to be careful when handling the package as it was dripping everywhere. I had super high expectations for this place due to all the Yelp reviews. Maybe I just had some bad luck? I was hankering for some boba and driving around Sunnyvale on Lawrence Expressway to Oakland. Ume Tea came up on my Yelp screen! I couldn't order in advance since I was driving, but at 8:30 pm on a Monday evening, there wasn't a crowd. One couple was ahead of me as well as some pickup orders. Since I'm lactose intolerant, and it was late, I didn't want anything with dairy or caffeine. It's limiting, so I bucked up and went ahead, ordered the Lemon Green Tea with Basil Seeds ($4.something), and added Pearls ($.50) (total just over $5). I had to wait a bit (about 10 minutes), got my order, and took off for home. Got home and gave the big ol' boba straw a big poke into the drink only to have it --- BOUNCE! WHAAAaaaat? I finally removed the sealed lid, and found a WHOLE LIME in the drink! Whhhhhaaaat! It had slashes that didn't go all the way through, I guess to infuse some of the lime-ness into the drink (not much). The lime displaced so much tea, too! The small flecks of white turned out to be the Basil Seeds. More of them would have made a difference. Big blobs of boba at the bottom were soft on the surface (like fuzzy soft, not bouncy soft) and chewy in the middle, a little disconcerting. Not a fan of this. The Lemon Green Tea was good as I ordered it with light ice and light sugar, flavorful. The next time I order this same drink, I'll ask for NO LIME, and skip boba unless I get to test taste it first. I randomly stumbled upon this boba shop while walking around the shopping center. I was pleasantly surprised at their drinks. They offer unique flavors and toppings that most boba shops do not offer (see my photo for the menu). I got the Coffee Brûlée Milk tea with coconut jelly - doesn't that sound delicious?? Cause it tasted just as good as the name sounds. It had a perfect blend of coffee and tea flavor. They froth it so it's nice and thick/foamy too. This drink comes with boba already. I added coconut jelly as extra and it gave it an additional kick. I got it with 0% additional sugar and found it to be perfect. Adding any more sugar would've made it too sweet in my opinion. I'm not a huge sweet-tooth. I did not try their snacks during this trip since I was already full from eating at other restaurants from the same shopping center. Next time! We initially came at the perfect time as we were the only ones there and service was prompt. We later went back because my friend wanted to buy another cup for her brother... now there's quite a bit of people by then and the wait was nearly 40 minutes. Apparently, someone took our order so that further delayed our wait as they remade our drink. Their method of calling out order # when it's ready could definitely improve. If you're waiting outside (due to social distancing reasons), you can easily miss your order call when it's ready. You'll have to go in and out often to manually check if your order is ready or not. I wish they can text you or use a microphone to call out once your order is ready. If you see a line, don't bother, especially if you're under time constraints as you can expect to wait 40-60 minutes. If there's no line, this place is certainly worth the experience of trying their rich, delicious, unique tea/coffee drinks. read more

Opening in time of Covid19 is definitely a risky venture. But Ume tea is a welcome addition to Milpitas Square. Due to the pandemic, there was plenty of outdoor seating in the parking lot set aside for customers. The mall overall is not very busy-- right now, I'm sure all the businesses need all the support they can get. My cousin got the brown sugar milk tea which had a strong tea flavor that is absent in the drinks from most other tea places. Black milk tea with taro and boba - the milk tea lacked depth, wasn't strong in tea flavor and also not sweet at all. I couldn't adjust sweetness on this so I expected it to already be sweet but the milk tea tasted like 0% sweet. Perhaps, they forgot sugar? However the taro and boba was sweet so it could also be that the toppings are suppose to be the sweetness. The taro was great, soft and small chunks. The boba was too mushy for my liking. Grapefruit greet tea - this was super refreshing and had a nice flavor, not artificial tasting and also not bitter like some other places I've tried. I got this at 75% sweet and it was at a good sweetness level. I would come back for their fruit teas and try some specialty drinks and order online so it saves me some time. read more

Watch out! This place has a killer matcha strawberry milk tea. I ordered a matcha strawberry milk tea, passion fruit green tea, and some popcorn chicken. Let me get this out of the way. Avoid the popcorn chicken. It was beyond mushy and surface coated with chili powder. Out of the two drinks, the strawberry matcha was the best. I don't know if it was the weather or not, but the chilled milk with fresh strawberries tasted so amazing. I would highly reccommend it.
