Looked up Asian food near Issaquah during my bf's short lunch break. All the photos and menu items sounded really good and we wanted to order everything off the menu, but we stuck with just 3. We shared the Lime-Garlic wings and wow! The batter is nice and crunchy and the flavoring (aka lime and garlic) and onions helped cut any oiliness. One of the best Asian wings I've had. My bf ordered the short ribs pho. The broth wasn't as rich as I was hoping but it was very clean and the meat was really tender. I ordered the taiwanese beef noodle soup. Tbh, I had no idea how to eat this because the meat, tofu, and hot sauce came on a separate plate. I ended up putting the meat into my soup and ate the pickled tofu as a side and dipped it into the chili oil/soy sauce. It even came with pickled greens! The wait staff was rude 0 star for the fact that they did not return our credit card after we paid the bill. We didn't notice until after we got home. When we called, the initial response was "no, we don't have your credit card". We persisted, and after asking the same question 4-5 times, they finally asked for our name and said "yes, we have your card". This is just NOT acceptable. Ginger peach tea is really good too. If you have 3 minutes: The cafe has nice outdoor seating area with a small Japanese garden to set you in a nice a relaxing mood. Inside is nicely decorated with bamboo plates hanging on the walls and some small succulent pots. It is really lovely place to hang out with you girlfriend and you could even call it a date. I've never experienced such utter disrespect. When I confronted him and told him we are his customers and expect to be treated well he snapped at us again. Delicious Asian fusion restaurant with great service! They are friendly and timely with your food. The atmosphere is really nice... Especially the Japanese garden on a beautiful day. They have outdoor seating with umbrellas to shade you from the hot sun, a Koi pond and a lovely garden to give you the full zen experience. If you love curry, I highly recommend any of the curry dishes as they are all fabulously seasoned! The green curry has huge hunks of avocado and they will modify the dish to have chicken instead of tofu, if you wish. Their Thai chicken wings are to die for as well as their Pho!! These are all gluten-free options that I speak of which makes me really happy as I have an allergy to gluten and yet i can eat all of this delicious food!! read more

I read a review, don't remember on which site, and it mentioned a rude waiter. I discounted that one because other reviews were pretty good. But, we had the rude waiter/owner/manager, whatever and because of him I would not go back. That is besides the fact that it was a very chilly day, and it was very chilly inside as well. We ate in heavy jackets and never felt compelled to remove them. We also asked for tea (to warm up) and was told it was $5 for the tea bag and hot water. I had the Classic Pho and thought just okay. My friends and I stopped into Umi Cafe after hiking Rattlesnake, and I enjoyed my lunch here. The space is very clean, the service is quick, and the food was good. The menu is a hodgepodge of different Asian cuisines: Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc. so there's probably something for everyone here. I had the beef noodle soup and it was presented very nicely. The broth tasted very clean and the noodles were cooked perfectly. One friend had the tofu ramen and the other had one of the rice bowls + an order of pork buns. Both said their food was great! My only gripe is that a can of Diet Coke is $3. That's kind of ridiculous -- normally I would only pay $3 for soda if it was one of those fountain/unlimited refill situations. $3 for a can of pop is a bit absurd, lol. Anyway, the outside of the restaurant is very cute -- it's surrounded by a peaceful garden and next to a spa. On days with good weather, I'm sure dining al fresco would be a great option. The ambience of the restaurant was nothing shy of adorable. With the traditional Japanese decor and lines of succulents places along shelves- it prompted my family and I high expectations for the food. My daughter ordered the lemon grass chicken, my wife ordered the Taiwanese noodles, I ordered the pork belly, and we all shared the chicken gyozas. The first to arrive at our table were the gyozas, and they tasted...okay. Nothing more special than the fried gyozas you could purchase at a local Uwajimaya. Next to come were the entrees, and disappointingly, our reactions to them were no better than to that of the first dish. My wife's noodles tasted too strongly of cinnamon (quite surprisingly, considering it was expected to be a simple bowl of beef noodles) and my daughters dish tasted far to strongly of lemon grass. It seems as if this restaurant loves going heavy on spices. My dish, the pork belly, was the best out of everything we ordered, and even then - it wasn't anything I would crave another trip for. Second time eating here since my first time last week and I'm not sure how you get better in 7 days, but it was BETTER the second time. Wow! I ordered the same thing both times, Tawainese Beef Noodle Soup and the Pork Belly Buns. So many flavors! Beef noodle soup is hot, and presented beautifully with a separate dish for the hot sauce, pickled veggies, beef and tofu. Picked veggies are FIRE. Pork Belly Buns are now my best friend. Unbelievable. The bao buns were fluffy and not soggy, and the pork belly was consistent, had a crisp outside and wonderful surprises of the shank meat on the inside. Not too gelatinous, but just right. Pickled veggies were insides as well as some nice optional greenery on the side. My friend and I ordered to-go because we were craving some short rib pho and stumbled across this restaurant on door dash. With no prior knowledge of the restaurant after living years in Issaquah, we decided to take a risk and try it out. Needless to say we were far from disappointed. Pulling up to the establishment it's hidden in the back alley, but parking and pick up was easy and smooth. As for the food, The broth was very light, and clean but not lacking in flavor, not to mention the short rib was so tender it fell right off the bone ( literally ). I would even be so bold to say this is the best pho in Issaquah. 10/10 will be returning and HIGHLY suggest to check it out. read more

I was eager to try this place for a while as a longtime resident of Issaquah/Sammamish. I'll have to head back for more to get a more complete idea of what it's like, but my first experience was good. What do I want this place to be for? And what is Umi trying to be? I'm looking for a good boba place, so I had my benchmark drink: taro milk tea. It was good and I would get it again. I feel like it might have been made with whole milk or something that made it much thicker/creamier than I'm used to getting with milk tea but I would still get it again. Umi is trying to be a fusion joint. Ideally, this means they offer interesting twists on the classics. The menu is large so you have to cut out the stuff that isn't simple and tested. It can't all be good. So, I'm ignoring soups and curries for now. The small plates looked promising, and I ordered another of my favorite benchmark dishes: pork buns. I was very pleased! The buns had cilantro and some peanut inside, and good dough. The pork itself was about as I wanted it to be, nicely flavored and tender. Not quite falling apart tender, but I have high standards. I'd get them again, even at the $8 price point for two buns. Let's talk value. The boba is cheaper than most I've seen, especially in Seattle. Under $4 is great for me. The buns are about $1/bite, which is scary to some, but worth it personally. So, Umi is a mixed bag on value. I hope to come back and have more small plates, like the noodles, popcorn chicken, and the roti rolls. Good work so far, Umi! Recommendable! read more

We come here almost every weekend after gym. We have a 1 year old who's currently very active and makes a huge mess with his baby led weaning. But the staff here is always patient and friendly with us and very understanding of our situation. Besides the friendly service, the food is delicious and consistent. We always order the coconut shrimp and honey basil wings as our appetizer and whatever entree to share. So far we've had almost everything on the menu and we keep coming back. It's so hard to say which one is our favorite, because we really enjoy everything on the menu. As Taiwanese, I find a lot of comfort in their beef noodle soup. Finally, the space is just comfortable. I've driven past Umi for years without even realizing it was there. Finally noticed it on DoorDash, looked at some reviews, and decided to pick up the short rib pho and pork belly buns. The buns were tasty, and the pho was well-packaged for takeout and delicious. Next time I'll do the regular beef pho, as the short ribs ended up being a little too fatty for me, but that also could have been because of the combo with the pork belly buns. read more

I am from Taiwan and I agree with the rest of the reviewers who said their Taiwanese beef noodle soup was authentically prepared and delicious. Beef was tender with tendons. My friend ordered the tofu avocado curry and it was beautifully presented and tasty. This cafe, tucked behind a spa and garden on Bush Street by Boehm's pool, is tricky to find. The small lunch crowd came and went quickly as service was prompt and efficient. The Spicy Chicken Curry was mild to medium spicy. We ordered the brown rice ($2 more); it was lumpy and not fresh. At 11:45 (they open at 11:30), one expects fresh, hot rice. Not here- makes me question the 2 star rating I just gave it. The Pork Buns (2 for $8) are not work it; 3" puffy tortilla-like shell with toothpick holding in slimy not crispy Pork fat. Little pickled veggies and a strip of arugula. We ate one and left the other. Wide selection of teas. Pleasant view overlooking garden. The food was delicious, hot and crispy and I wish I had more room to try more menu items, which are made up of a selection of Asian fusion dishes. I've bought bubble tea from this place a long time ago and it was quite empty at the time, but it's good to see this restaurant a lot more bustling now. There's a serene garden and koi pond outside and the atmosphere in the restaurant is very cozy - I believe it is a family-run restaurant. It's connected to a spa as well.
