My C found this one on ye ol' Yelp app... It looked promising. The whole family style dining is a cool. I generally dig anything people just bring me to eat without me asking so this seemed like the place to be! Walked in and was offered a table in a wooden shed like room. No thanks. Waited on something in dining room to get cleaned as they were all dirty or sat. Same young lady that sat us, waited on us. Her name was Mackenzie. She was very sweet, a little scattered, but took care of us well. She forgot we had not ordered and was avoiding my summons because she thought I wanted my food, LOL. She reminded me of my cousins kid when she was younger except a lot nicer than my cousins kid. We were torn on what to get so we got the Sampler Platter (that might not be the name). It sounded like a winner. C like clam strips for some reason, I liked the other stuff. Mac let us know she would be charging us for one set of sides since we only ordered one meal. Cool. No worries. I ain't trying to get one over on Unc, dang.... ;) I dug the stuff that came out first much more than I liked the combo plate. White beans and hush puppies are my freaking jam! C likes the slaw and pickles, so it was a hit right off the bat. The catfish was gross. One bite and done. The clam strips were clam strips, the alligator was pretty good, but some pieces were so small it was mostly breading. I don't remember the shrimp at all. I am not even sure we had any. Wait.... It wasn't shrimp, it was frog legs, and they were gosh damn delicious! Pardon me for messing that up! Was it supposed to have shrimp? Idk, I was pretty high. It also came with potato wedges, I am a sucker for those delicious coated potatoes. Back to the frog legs though, we bartered over who got more. Good stuff! I am really glad I didn't fall for the AYCE catfish. That would have been disappointing. I will see if I can get by here again sometime. Future Adam safe and recommended!! Uncle Bud's Restaurant does not disappoint! The outside facade and interior were as expected. What was unexpected was the quality of not just the food, but the staff as well. I ordered the 2 pc fish and 2 pc fried chicken. The fixin's of 3 crispy fried hush puppies, 2 dill pickle spears, sliced onion, a bowl of creamy cole slaw and a bowl of extremely tender white beans arrived very quickly. Before we even had a chance to sample each fixin', our main entree arrived. My platter arrived with wedge cut crispy french fries, 2 medium size catfish fillets and a large chicken breast and wing with a fluffy biscuit and a wedge of lemon resting on top of everything. The fish had the perfect light crispy batter that paired well with their extremely thick tartar sauce. Delicious. The chicken also had a light batter that hid the perfectly cooked chicken that was still juicy and surprisingly tender. Our waitress, Stephanie was great and was constantly checking to see how we were doing. She offered us a free side of mashed potatoes and mac and cheese (this week only to see how the customers liked them). Both were also very good. Overall, a great find and one worthy of a return visit.

Personally, Uncle Buds a childhood gem. Although many locations have closed this Donelson location is still going full steam ahead. My mom and I spent the lunch hour over a much needed catch up and all you can eat fixings. Hot beans, crunchy hush puppies, fresh coleslaw, crispy fries and pickles to our hearts desire. Our waitress Quin was the best and we had a great experience.

While in the area on a golfing trip we found this great place to eat. Show casing fish, chicken and sides it was a must try!!! Our server started out by bringing our sides of cold slaw, hush puppies, white beans, and onions/cucumbers in a vinegar base. The sides alone were a meal unto themselves!!! Got our drink order and passed out menus. We enjoyed the sides while perusing the menu. We ordered fried fish and fried chicken. Great meal by all. Not wanting to pass up the dessert we split the banana pudding four ways and went back for another 18 holes od gold full and happy.

Excellent lunch. Loved the whole catfish and the unlimited sides. Our waitress brought sample of gumbo and jambalaya. The gumbo was good, and I thought the Jambalaya was excellent. Casual and comfortable atmosphere.

The food was PHENOMENAL! My GAWD!!!!!! I need a wheelbarrow to roll me out of here!! The service was SUPER FAST!!!!!! Food was already on the table when I finished washing my hands!!!!!!!! Wow .....I have to Yelp this again. Well because it's been a few changes. Adrian you are the BEST SERVER that I seen in a while. Good service is like fishing. Sometimes you catch a good fish and the ones that aren't any good you may throw them back! Food here is always delicious and flavorful. I met the manager today and she is nice as can be. And as crowded as it is, she has time to speak to all her customers. We had a fat catfish platter and a chicken platter. Sundays, you can have all the chicken you want to eat 15 bucks you can have catfish all you can eat every day for $24.99 (whole catfish) or Fillets $22.95. Oh yeah, white beans, coleslaw, pickles, hush puppies, and onions are all you can eat. I love this place. Ambiance is great for families. The only complaint I have is how much weight I have gained from eating this good food,

Tried this place off of a recommendation from a friend in Michigan. Had a little misunderstanding with the staff from the beginning, but it was quickly resolved. As far as the staff and the food, both were excellent. We'll be back again when in town.

It was my 1st time here but definitely will be my Last! The second we got seated, a few plates of pickles, cabbage slaw etc they called "Fixings" were placed on the table and we were told it's unlimited (concept similar to Olive Garden's bread sticks or Korean banchan) although cool I wasn't interested in eating it. The type of food served here is not my usual cup of tea (Catfish is not Kosher) and likewise my child wasn't interested in it either. We decided to share an entree. The server said she'd have to charge my child and I, a $9.95 fee each for sharing the Fixings (that I didn't want) and The Mgr explained that was the policy of the owners and there was nothing she could do about it. Well, I will never be back.

AYCE Catfish! We got both whole catfish and filets. My preference is the whole fish though both were excellent. The whole fish gives you that buttery fat against the bone that is heavenly. Also, having a little less batter in each bite gives you a "cleaner" flavor. You just have to get good and scraping the meat away from the bone. I will be back soon to take on 5-6 whole fish! The fixins are great as well and also AYCE!

I wanted this to be better than it was. The fried food just wasn't very crisp. And they forgot to bring a lot of the sides. It was passable but there are better places in the area. The Diet Coke was superb.

It's not easy to find a southern catfish restaurant anymore, so I had to try this place. They bring out sides when you sit down and keep them coming if needed. The drinks are served in mason jars. How can you not a place where you drink out of mason jars? I had the catfish and chicken and it was delicious. My server was very friendly and attentive. It wasn't he best I've had but it was very good. I highly recommend this place if you're in the area. read more

Amazing..... Amazing. Such a down home type of atmosphere and wonderful food. I ordered the All you can eat Catfish and It was very good. The fixins... (sweet onion, pickles, beans, coleslaw, hush puppies and fries) were unexpected. The fixins are included but all of it was delicious. Now let's talk about the big juicy pieces of catfish. Fresh, deep fried and golden brown. Thank you Uncle Bud for opening this place for locals and tourists to enjoy. read more

I had not eaten southern food in quite some time. This food was absolutely amazing! The atmosphere was pleasant and the food servers were very hospitable. Everything we ate from the fixin's to the catfish and fried chicken was mouth watering. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try if you have not already! read more

I died and went to fried catfish heaven . No but seriously this is some of the best catfish that I've had in quite some time. The best part about it is that it's all you can eat and they bring it out hot and fresh each time. They go out of their way to make sure you don't leave hungry and if you do, it's your fault as they say. The sweet tea tasted like you were sitting on your grandmas porch relaxin on a hot southern summer day. The sides were phenomenal from the coleslaw with a crunchy and slight pepper bite, to the hot fresh fries. Service was excellent and seating was a breeze. The only thing that if I had to say was a slight drawback, was the fish was a little salty. However, I'm a person who doesn't use a lot of salt in my foods so it really could possibly be just me. Other than that, uncle buds Catfish in Nashville is a must if you're in the area. I will be back again very soon. read more

We were looking for a good spot to eat before heading to the airport and Uncle Bud's did not disappoint. My daughter wasn't sure if she would like the fried catfish so they gave her an entire filet to sample. After she tried it and loved it and ordered it they brought the entree and let her keep the sample for free. Great customer service and amazing food. read more

Awful service, would not recommend. When we got here it took 35 minutes to get a table and when I walked inside there were 5 empty table. Once we finally got a table it took 10 minutes to get our drinks and another 30 to get our food. The food was ok but it was very small for something that cost so much. Definitely would not go there again. read more

I tell you, this place is ridiculous. Ridiculously delicious that is !!!! My wife and I took a short trip to Uncle Buds after a co-worker of mine told us about it. Flashback to Friday. My co-worker hands me a menu to check out and told me how great this place is. Now, being a native Louisianian who has tasted some of the best seafood in the world, I can be a little skeptical of some seafood restaurants. Looking through the menu I notice only 2 words: "GATOR TAIL". That's is all took for me to say to my wife "we are going to check this place out". Ever since having left Louisiana for Nashville, it seems to be nearly impossible to find gator meat anywhere, for obvious reasons I am sure. We live in Tennessee. Ok, back to the present. We go to the restaurant about 3pm or 4pm and it is hopping with all kinds of people. We were told it would be about a 30 minute wait. No problem. It's Sunday and people are out enjoying their weekend Side note: favorite patron was a guy who showed up in black t-shirt, multi-colored swim trunks, slip on sandals (no socks). Best part? Business on the front, party on the rear. Yep, a 1990's Billy Ray Cyrus mullet. Awesome !!! Anyways, we get seated and are immediately greeted by our server who brings the fixins'. Bowl or white beans, cole slaw, and some of the best hush puppies I've ever had. Big and fluffy and full of flavor. My wife and I decided to order the fried gator tail & catfish platter. It comes with fried gator and 2 nice filets of catfish. We decided that we would pass on the frogs legs and opt in for more gator. This was by far the BEST fried gator I have ever had....ANYWHERE !!! Moist, tender, and just delicious. The catfish was fried to perfection and full of flavor. I can honestly say I taste why they are known for their catfish. It also came with potatoes wedges which were just as good as everything else on the plate. I could go on and on about how amazing this place is. As if I haven't already? You will just need to decide for yourself. I will tell you this though: It is worth every penny and however long it takes you to get there. There is not one bad thing I could say about this place. Everything is just really great about Uncle Buds Catfish. I will definitely be returning many times in the future. Word of advice: If you get the gator, you have to ask for the "spicy mayo" (I think it's called). Goes together like....well, Uncle Bud & catfish !! Anyway, that's all I'm saying !!! read more

Went to Nashville for anniversary trip. Found this place on yelp plus it was 5 minutes from the hotel. We love the all u can eat fixings. Which reminded me of what my family in Alabama and Mississippi cook for Sunday dinner. My husband had the all you can eat catfish. He usually does not eat fish. But said that was the best fish he had. I had the all u can chicken tenders. Which were also good. Thank u for making our anniversary dinner memorable. Anytime we come back to Nashville. If you are traveling to Nashville you have to make Uncle Buds Catfish Chicken and Such a place you have to try. Ask for Donette she will make you feel at home. Best hushpuppies and Catfish I have eaten. Chicken Tenders will be your kids favorite of all time. The fixens are amazing too! Martin's BBq was over rated, have had better bbq in Cali. Hattie Bs good but you will enjoy the fried chicken At Uncle Buds more. Get the Banana pudding you won't be disappointed. read more

Yes yes yes yes yes! I love the atmosphere of this place! The food is delish! The quality service makes the food faaaaaaar more appetizing than other places! Food comes out quick and hot! I paid for my food to get take out. This is the first time here. I had my wallet out and my military ID was showing. I didn't ask for any type of discount I feel bad when I do.... but the manager (I think) saw it and said he'd give me a discount because of it! He has situational awareness & I love it! That's how a leader should take his role! On top of all of that he said my last name correctly! "Nguyen" if your wondering. I'll definitely be coming here again! read more

If you like southern fried fish and chicken along with Deep South "fixin's", then Uncle Bud's is your stop for lunch or dinner. Great service along with tastey fried food and mason jars filled drinks welcome you to a dinner that will satisfy. Does this sound good to you, then make a stop by and enjoy a great experience. This was some of the best food we have had in a while my husband had Frog Leg and I had Fried Shrimp. The food was hot and fresh. The hush puppies are wonderful. Lane, our server was amazing and he is from Toledo where we are from. Small world come to Nashville and meet a "neighbor" will definitely go back when we come back in December. Wish you could open in the Midwest. Great experience. read more

Uncle Bud's was the second dinner stop during my recent trip to Nashville! Again, we were hoping to find some good southern food close to our hotel. We got to the restaurant around 7 and I was surprised at the fact that they closed at 8! I was also surprised that we had to wait a few minutes for a table, considering how far from urban Nashville we were, but it was likely due to the fact that Tuesdays have an AYCE catfish special. You have two choices when ordering at Uncle Buds: AYCE dinners (protein and sides) or ordering a regular plate that comes with AYCE sides. I decided to try the catfish and the fried chicken plate. The portions here are HUGE. My meal came with 2 pieces of catfish and two pieces of fried chicken, and I ended up leaving about half my food on my plate. Of the two, the catfish was definitely better! The fillets were cooked perfectly and weren't dry or oily at all. The chicken was good but felt pretty heavy and I only ate half of one piece. The plate also came with a biscuit, which was pretty doughy and lacked seasoning, and fries, which were good but I was pretty over fried food at that point. My least favorite part of the meal were the sides. Maybe I'm not used to southern food, but circles of raw onions are not a side to me. The beans were flavorless and the coleslaw was watery. This was also my first time trying hush puppies and I was disappointed with how greasy and heavy they were. Overall, while I really enjoyed the catfish, I wouldn't come to Uncle Bud's if I were to visit Nashville again. One good component wasn't really worth feeling like everything else I ate was instantly clogging my arteries! read more

Very friendly and homey place. Our server, Monica, was awesome! The fixin's were excellent and they do as they say -- bring them out when you first sit down and keep ''em coming until you say 'Whoa!" We had fried shrimp and fried catfish filets. Both were excellent! Sweet tea was also great. Had no room to try their dessert but the banana pudding and peach cobbler was very tempting. Perhaps I should have ordered crab or shrimp or some other boiled seafood which seems to be more of their specialty. But the fish and chips caught my attention. Beware, these aren't the fish and chips you'll find in the UK or the Northeastern United States. Instead of a crisp, beer-battered exterior, this is more like a catfish breading. And it's not bad, but it's just very different than the name would imply. The batter is probably too salty, but the fish is very fresh! The Cajun fries are horribly mediocre. They're definitely just frozen fries from a local supermarket with an uninspiring spice mix. The employees didn't seem very welcoming either, which was kind of sad since I was excited to be there. It's not a bad meal at all, but the ratings are way higher than they should be! If you're haphazardly shelling out five-star reviews, you've probably never had real seafood on the coast and have only inflated the truth for online viewers. Don't expect too much out of Krustaceans, hope for a decent meal, and you won't be disappointed.

The toasted bun had a nice char, but was fluffy on the inside and the cajun sauce gave the crawfish nice flavor. We devoured this and were really impressed with the item. Next the Seafood Mac and Cheese came our as well as the shrimp and grits. The Mac and Cheese had such a great blend of cheeses and the noodles were cooked al dente. The grits on the shrimp and grits were scrumptious - not mushy at all and the shrimp was cooked through. Everything tasted very comforting and the prices are very reasonable! Overall, this was definitely a highlight meal of my Southern States travels and the next time I'm back in Nashville I hope to try the gumbo and lobster roll!

What a unique combo, the pecan flavor was delicious without overpowering the drink. The pastries look so nice that I'm convinced people don't actually eat them. I'll definitely be stopping by to try a "mango" or a Dubai chocolate croissant before I leave Nashville. Really glad I stayed near such a charming cafe!

The coffee is solid,…read morethough I would be mindful of that a size upgrading coffee does not mean more espresso; it simply means more milk. The inside is large enough to sit and enjoy your food and drinks. They have their pastries on gorgeous display and the location is quite convenient for those who are already downtown. Service is friendly, and they are quite quick as they have many customers to get through.

Not gonna lie, didn't really want to go to a place called "Uncle Bud's Catfish"... But my wife loves catfish and after looking at their online menu, I gave it a shot. We walked in to a clean restaurant with massive picture windows bringing in tons of natural light. I like it already :) then, super nice server points us in the right direction for our lunch fare, gives us a metal number for our table, and tells us we can sit wherever we'd like. Our food was cooked to order and tasted fantastic. I ordered the calabash shrimp which is lightly breaded, not overdone, and then fried. My wife got the catfish and both of us got a side of incredible white beans, full of flavor. The hush puppies were nothing to write home about but the rest of the meal was awesome. We got a 50% off coupon from Scoutmob so our entire meal with tip was only $12. Can't beat that!! read more

if you like eating ear funk,eyejunk,hair oil,and the manager stuck his finger in his nose...i sat at the bench left of the door waiting on my to go order..looking straight head were they take your food and throw the plastic ware on you plate..i watched this one chick rub here eyes, and finger her ear ,rub her noise and grab the plastic ware from the end you eat with!!!!nasty so i could not the food from there after seeing that.also say the manager stick his finger in his noise..so i ask for a refund.he thought i wanted a refund for taking to long..he piss me off i you can tell.i left without refund.way too pissed.had to leave..i swear to it i saw it and its nasty.... never eating out again. you never know what the hell is being done to your food......2-22-11 read more

It's a great place to eat when you don't have a manager yelling and speaking rudely to employees right infront of customers. Ive came in numerous times and this has happened. Then a girl that i know for a fact was dressed in a manager uniform walked out of the back in very short shorts and a tshirt. Come on guys have some respect for your employess when they are busting your butt for you!! Btw Sydney was absolutely excellent!! Just wish management and the way they spoke ans presented themselves was better. read more

I've never had any complaints... but yesterday 3/27, was the worst! I understand it was a few hours from closing but the fish was small and it was all you can eat like it was. The menu had Thursday/Sunday all you can eat but when asked, I was told not for the fish... just chicken. Hell my grand baby could've eaten those little pieces of fish and at $18??? I'll give it another at a later date but I am highly disappointed!!!! read more

Thank you UBC for having the most talented server I've ever had wait on me. Mr. Roshaun waited on me as I enjoyed an AYCE cat/ckn dinner. He showed amazing poise, initiative, humility, willingness and care as it relates to my overall AMAZING dining experience.
