Ordered Uncle Bud's Catfish for the first time tonight because we recently moved to the area. With everything going on in the world, we got it to go. We live about 15 minutes from the restaurant. Got it home and it was packaged well so our food was still hot. I got the catfish and shrimp combo. It was an abundant amount of food coming with two catfish fillets, over 10 shrimp, fries, coleslaw, white beans, two huge hush puppies, raw white onion, and pickles. Leftovers, most definitely! This will be our new "fish house". That's what we call catfish houses back home. Definitely recommend! read more

Well I am a seafood lover but have never been too fond of catfish but decided to try it and I was disappointed...the catfish was very soft and gritty tasting. I have a friend from Louisiana and is skilled in catfish and I was told that catfish needs to be cooked with a more firm taste. Very quaint with EXCEPTIONAL food! Loved the "fixins" that comes family style with each meal. We have visited Uncle Bud's twice now. Each time we have eaten here we have walked away full and happy. We used to be die hard Cock of the Walk fans, but have converted to Uncle Bud's. The service is quick and efficient. The fixings are unlimited and the food is consistently good! They are a bit expensive for the size of the filets. I ordered the sweet tea (which was just about perfect, some places really lace it with the sugar, Uncle Bud did it perfectly). Of the fixins, the hush puppies looked a little different from what I was used to, but they tasted great. The beans were outstanding as well. The slaw and pickles were solid, but I didn't eat the raw onion. Ok, now here is where the enlightening starts. I know they have a catfish for a logo, they talk about catfish on their website, the catfish is iconic here. So I took a chance and ordered the gator. Man am I happy I did. I have to say that was some of the best gator I have had outside of Louisiana. If you have never tried gator before, you can't go wrong here. They have set a very high bar indeed. The side portions were small being that I ordered "to go" and they forgot my hush puppies- which I was really looking forward to trying. This is going to sound picky but to be accurate I think 3.75 stars is more appropriate for this place. We had a large group and had chicken strips, shrimp and catfish. Most of the fish was cooked perfectly but there were a few filets that were a little greasy. They used batter on the chicken and shrimp. I think the shrimp would be better if they were cooked in cornmeal like the catfish. The navy beans were cooked perfectly and the coleslaw was well prepared and fresh. Hush puppies were good. If you live for southern style fried food, then this place is a paradise. My choices were a little limited since I eat gluten free but overall this place does not disappoint. The fried platters, options for unlimited food and sides, as well as affordable pricing makes this a very family friendly place. From the fun decor to the ever so happy employees, there is a reason this place was packed at 5pm with a wait for a table. The host was very gracious when I asked for a table of 1 and the hostess who sat me greeted me by name. A young gentleman filled my table with the unlimited sides and took my drink order with a smile. The waitress was charming and friendly with her southern flair and was happy to walk me through the menu discussing the popular items and what I could eat with my restrictions. My wife and I went to Uncle Bud, they have a waitlist that you can join online so when we got there we were able to be seated right away. The food was great , I had the seafood platter. This restaurant is fantastic! My fiancé is working on project at the airport so he is in Tennessee fir the week while we're in Indiana. I came to stay with him for the week and have been to Uncle Buds 2 out of the 3 nights I have been in TN. I had the shrimp both times and I can not tell you enough how amazing this shrimp was!! I am a shrimp enthusiast and this is by far the best fried shrimp I have ever had. The breading was perfect, not to much. The shrimp was cooked to perfection both times. I mean perfection!!! My better half had the chicken the first night and the catfish the second and both of his meals were fantastic as well. They bring you beans, hush puppies, coleslaw and pickles and onions as soon as you sit down . I normally am not a fan of hush puppies or slaw however Uncle Buds has changed my mind. The slaw was sweet and creamy with a little kick of heat that was perfection and the hush puppies were crispy on the outside and moist and oh so flavorful on the inside. I had to tell our server to stop bringing refills out or I would have to be taken out on a dolly since I obviously had no self control when it came to the slaw and puppies! The server we had the first night 10/27( she had red or pink hair) but I didn't get her name unfortunately but she was great! Very attentive and on top of it! The next waitress was not so great at all! They close at 8 and we were there at 7 on 10/29 but she was more worried about doing closing work than taking care of her tables so that was extremely disappointing however the server we had the first night picked up her slack and git us any thing we needed so I will 100% request her next visit. I am mad at myself for not getting her name. This restaurant is a hidden treasure and I will continue to frequent every time I come visit my fiancé fir the next year. I will also tell everyone who will listen how fantastic this place is. I don't write many reviews but man this place is absolutely fantastic and I want everyone to know.
