I love Uncle Buds. I think it's great. The food is always consistent and the service is great. We went today and no one ordered anything off the all you can eat menu, and we did not ask for refills on our sides. I asked for a Togo box for my enormous amount of food left over. I was brought a paper tray with a piece of foil. I said that the tray wouldn't hold my meal, and I was brought 2 more. This stack of paper trays with a sheet of foil would not have made it home. The tray is something you would serve a side of fires in. I had a left over chicken breast, biscuit, baked potato, a piece of my son's fish and I wanted to take some of the slaw that the table shared. Obviously the paper trays were not appropriate to take this home in. I asked for a proper box, which I saw they had, and my server said they were not allowed to give them out. She super politely offered to get the manager, and he graciously obliged to pack it up in a box. He explained since they offer all you can eat portions that they only offer the paper trays and foil. So they totally went above and beyond and basically broke their policy for me. I'm the kind of person that can never finish a restaurant portion and always take home for later. The paper trays are just a mess and make this impossible. I will return because I love the place, but I usually refuse to go to places that have a sketchy Togo policy. I would highly recommend being more accommodating of people taking food Togo. We were not abusing the all you can eat. We all ordered regular menu items. Nothing all you can eat. None at my table of 6 asked for extras on the all you can eat sides. I was so appreciate that the rules were broke to accommodate me, but it's really an off putting rule. Not gonna lie, didn't really want to go to a place called "Uncle Bud's Catfish"... But my wife loves catfish and after looking at their online menu, I gave it a shot. We walked in to a clean restaurant with massive picture windows bringing in tons of natural light. I like it already :) then, super nice server points us in the right direction for our lunch fare, gives us a metal number for our table, and tells us we can sit wherever we'd like. Our food was cooked to order and tasted fantastic. I ordered the calabash shrimp which is lightly breaded, not overdone, and then fried. My wife got the catfish and both of us got a side of incredible white beans, full of flavor. The hush puppies were nothing to write home about but the rest of the meal was awesome. We got a 50% off coupon from Scoutmob so our entire meal with tip was only $12. Can't beat that!! read more

Been frequenting (any location they open of) this place since I was a kid. This location is every bit as good as it was 20 years ago. Excellent catfish and chicken, with gator tail as my personal favorite treat! You can't get better hushpuppies than this anywhere in the world. If you want some good southern cooking, this is the place. Everything is friend and greasy like I want it. Servers are extremely attentive and keep the drinks and fixins coming. We started going to Uncle Bud's in their original house location back in the 80's(?) but had dropped off over the past 10 years due to a drop in perceived quality however my in-laws convinced us to try it again a couple of months ago. As that experience was good I settled on this location for a group of 20 people who were staying near the airport, kicking off a 2 day conference and about to go to the Grand Ole Opry for the first time in their lives. Most folks had never been to Nashville...thus the option to embrace our southern culture head-on and treat them to some good food. The staff did a fabulous job. We walked in at 5pm and had all eaten and even sat around talking (as this was a first meeting for many) by 6pm when we exited for the Opry. Had baskets of hush puppies and gator bites on the table to share while we waited for the dinner orders to come out...they went over very well. Nobody ventured to the chicken livers but I believe most everything else was ordered with a heavy emphasis on catfish. Not one order messed up and rave reviews from everyone. Needless to say we wont be going back - ever. This is your typical "hole-in-the-wall" restaurant... high prices and mediocre food you can get from the grocery store. I ordered the basic... simple... chicken tenders. Yes, "only childs get chicken tenders" but their menu made it sound really good. When the food came out, the chicken was barely warm and the fries were soggy and old. The food came with a biscuit and the biscuit looked like plastic because it wasn't fresh at all. My grandmother's potato looked like they took it from the bag and put a knife cut through it. That's it. Nothing special. Waited 20 minutes and walked next door to Fletcher's where they were more than happy and ready to serve us. Honestly they had as many people actually in the dining room dining as Uncle Bud's did at that time. Maybe you shouldn't offer your all you can eat specials if you can't handle the crowds you apparently draw for those promotions. This is a classic southern restaurant that delivers on food and service. I tried it out for lunch on a Friday. A few minutes before noon there was a line of about 10 people, but I was still seated within 10 minutes. I ordered the two catfish fillet meal, which comes with all the coleslaw, hush puppies and white beans you can eat. The cole slaw was ok, and the hush puppies were perfect. I'm not a fan of white beans, so I didn't try them. The catfish fillets were perfect, lightly breaded and the perfect amount of seasoning. Any real southern catfish place should have great sweet tea, and this place does. They serve it in a quart glass jar. Service was quick and a manager stopped by to make sure everything was great. Good casual restaurant that you can take the entire family to. I enjoy the fixin's: cole slaw, hushpuppies, white beans, and pickles. The fixin's also include onions but I am not a fan of onions, in general. You can just order the fixin's by themselves for $4.95, which is well worth the price. The catfish, when fried hard, is pretty good but I like the catfish at the Cock of the Walk just a tad bit better. We received a sample of the gumbo, which was OK. They also have BIG mason jar glasses for your beverage. You will not go thirsty! You can always count on consistently great service at Uncle Bud's especially if your waiter is Damarius. On my first visit to Uncle Bub's Catfish, I had a great experience. There was about a twenty-minute wait. The staff was apologetic for the wait and the young server had a very good attitude. Every bite of food that I ate was delicious. I had a two-piece Catfish meal. The Catfish was well seasoned and tasty I returned to Uncle Bud's about three weeks later slightly after its 4:00 p.m. opening to have a totally different experience that brings into question if I will ever return. Upon entering the establishment the hostess attempted to sit my son and me in a corner next to the kitchen. Since there were only two other parties in the restaurant I asked if we could be seated by the window. The host response was to sit us by the window in the very back of the restaurant next to the bathroom. My son and I picked another seat that provided better scenery. We both ordered a Catfish dinner and it was lack luster, to say the least. The catfish was not well seasoned and the fries were slightly over done. The sides on the table tasted fine but were not how I remember them. We were not asked to refill our drinks until after we finished our meal. Our cost with a $10.00 tip came up to $45.00. If I were to speculate why there was a difference in experience I would say it was that on my first visit the "owner" or person I presumed to be the owner was present and the second time they were not. I was offered more Catfish but it turned out to be the same tasteless cardboard. I was really insulted by the hostess' choice in seating my son and me on my second visit. It's nothing fancy, but the food is great, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the staff treat you like family. All you can eat chicken, catfish, fixin's, or all three! Everything was pretty darn good. You won't go wrong with any menu item. All the staff were very hospitable from check-in to clean up. Our server was the cutie Eli Mae and Rae Rae. They were fast and very helpful. Meals came pretty quick even though it was fairly busy. If there is any downside, they close at 8:00 pm.
