Kung pao chicken: was slimy, probably from the zuchini next to it. Kung pao chicken composed mainly of chicken and the zuchini cubes. Not bad but probably the worst kung pao chicken Ive had. Larger but chewier. Flavors just not there either. And they give so little and just load it with zuchini. Fried rice was just it, it tasted so little that if I was blindfolded, I would think its just regular rice. Chow mein: Never been a fan of chow mein in general so this was no brainer mid to me. And they load so much chow mein too. Overall, the flavor is the worst part, cause its not so bad I need to throw up but if you compare it to real food, theres a huge difference. Extra: We came in on Thursday around 7pm They spoke cantonese Also I think I saw him grab the noodles with his hands, I wish I could unsee that. Then when ordering, he kept sniffling which is fine but also not and disgusting when youre handling food for other people. He wiped his hands with a towel before taking our card but he still left visible residue on my card. Really something else huh. Food looks good too which is weird Been a few days since I finished it, didnt get sick. I wanna give it a 4 star cause I reserve 3 star for pretty bad restaurants but out of all the restaurants I've been to in Chico, this is lower than most of them. You must go knowing the guy will be rude. It sets your frame of mind. We have never laughed so hard in a drive thru! He starts with "what you need" in an aggressive tone, and it got better from there. We had fun with it. But the food was good! We only ordered shrimp egg rolls, but they had so much flavor and were fresh! We would go back. read more

They fill up the plate pretty good and for the price is insane in this economy. IT IS AN AUTHENTIC ASIAN/CHINESE RESTRAUNT, please remember this because the service is quick and you order and you go and thats what a lot of REAL Asian spots are like. The inside is going to reflect the food, the fact they got the same fish tank w the 12th generation of fish in there means the food is going to be amazing and so will the prices. My husband is a Chico state alumni. Today we visited his old campus so he could show me around. He brought me to Egg Roll king because he said it was good comfort food. And it really was. It's comparable to other Chinese food, but surprisingly they make good pho too (pho being Vietnamese). Definitely best pho in Chico lol. The place itself is a bit run down but I love how sweet the workers are. Seems like a family owned business. It's been 9 years since my last review, and unfortunately, I am having a difficult time to find reasons to keep me coming back. 9 years ago, a lunch combo was just over $5. This week, they raised their price (again) to $8.50 from $7.50...a 13% increase overnight (and a 54% price increase in those 9 years since my last review). The value-to-price was the draw. Now that's been eliminated. The business never opens at 11am as listed on their posted hours. I have waited in the drive through 10 to 15 minutes regularly, and even up to 25 minutes, before they turn on their sign and start taking orders. I used to be able to call in orders and have my meal ready for pick up (a big time saver), but now they rarely answer the phone, and 98% of the time, they don't even start my phone order until I arrive. Long waits, poor customer service, increased prices, unreliable opening times...I'm struggling to find a reason to come back. read more

Every time I come tonight Egg Roll King near closing time they are wiping down all the tables and booths with a pail of water and bleach. I love the fact that they take the time to clean the lobby. I noticed some other reviews stating that the lady that takes the orders isn't nice. I personally think as Americans we don't understand their culture and really have no idea what they have seen and experienced in their lifetime. I have shared a laugh with the lady taking the orders when I told her I liked her ring. I have also shared a laugh with the old lady that hands out the food. She almost spilled my Thai tea and we both laughed when she caught it. The food has been consistent for as long as I can remember. I personally order the Combo Chow Mein with no veggies. My girl likes the Fresh Ginger chicken with no veggies. Tonight I went crazy and also ordered the Curry Chicken with no veggies. I've also had the Garlic Fried Chicken Wings on the appetizer list and they are also delicious. Yes the fish tank isn't crystal clear but they aren't on the menu so I think we're ok. Usually done in resignation to American palates, this orange chicken is balanced in a way that no dish of food for that price in these humble climes has any right to be - If only Michelin did reviews for a specific dish! How does something that immeasurably orange in color manage to taste almost...fresh? Also, the level and ability in the art of frying food nears mastery here. I recently went and got their broccoli with beef and as the phrase goes, they walked the beef through it. I was in the mood for good Chinese drive-through food, as I have grown tired of the small over priced portions at Panda Express, and one of my co-workers recommended this place. I had been there once nearly 15-years ago when I was a college student, so I thought what the heck. I ordered the lunch orange chicken combo and it was amazing. It was freshly prepared, and delicious. It was actually served so hot and a fresh, that I nearly burned my mouth as I wolfed down its deliciousness. The chow mien was incredible it has a delicious smoky flavor that I can not describe, but it out of this world. I might just order that one its own next time. There is some language barrier, but that is not a problem. They were friendly, prompt, and efficient. Please do not judge this gem by their exterior either. You can not beat the price of their combo. Well it's not fine dining (manage your expectations ppl) it's cheap and fast and not a stupid chain restaurant The rice and the noodles needed a touch of soy, sorta like Panda Express level flavor (thick traditional noodles not tiny noodles tho) and egg roll king is like 30% less expensive AND the chicken is actually very good. White meat thick and crispy and wonderful. Will eat here again because it has a drive thru and the chickens delicious for being American style fast food. Dine-In, Takeout, Drive-Thru. I mean seriously, what more could you ask for in a Chinese Restaurant? I worried that the speed of my food being prepared would tarnish the quality but i was wrong! I ordered an order of Chicken Chow Mein, Chicken Curry & Crab Rangoons! Everything was HOT & tasted FRESH. I called in my order and went in to pick it up so I cannot comment on the Dining-In experience or Drive-Thru but I would 100% return. I was very pleased with everything. The Chicken Curry was not overly flavorful and had a bit of a kick to it but nothing that would send you over the edge. Perfect for a cold, rainy, November night. Upon first look of the Rangoons they looked a little over-cooked in terms of the color but inside was perfect! The Chicken Chow Mein was packed to the top of the container and had a nice grilled flavor to it. Thank you guys! I know where I will be stopping for my future Chinese Food cravings! read more

I go here all the time. It's great but it's a bit inconsistent. You never quite know what your gonna get. The staff works hard and is always polite. They are sometimes hard to understand. I'm only giving you this heads up so you are aware and, therefore, can't be a d**k about it if there are language barriers when you order. It is a Chinese restaurant afterall. I had been craving potstickers and egg rolls literally for two days. I looked at some places, but The Egg Roll King had a drive through. I'm having some balance issues, so that sealed it for me. I am not going to lie. The outside of the building (did not go in, so can't rate), was pretty worn down and a bit dirty looking. However the drive through takes you around the back of the building and it looks like they follow health standards. Plus, as each order is made for you, you have time on your hands to look into some of the kitchen area. It took a minute or two for someone to speak to me at the drive through speaker, and it was very short and to the point. Something like, "what you want?" I got a couple "okay's" and "anything else." Then one final "ok." I took that as my cue to drive around. I waited for my order, about 7-10 minutes and headed home. Five potstickers, two veggie egg rolls for $6.95! Plus they made sure to add cutlery, napkins and sauces. So many places seem to forget that I've noticed. I've included pictures. Please don't judge this place by it's look.
