We ate here today for lunch. There were 3 of us in our party and we came here around 1230pm. We did not have to wait and were seated right away. We had chips & salsa, which were pretty delicious. The chips were thin and the salsa was warm. Good flavor and heat on the salsa. I had the 2 item lunch combo, with the pork tamale and added the chile relleno for an added charge. Let me tell you it was worth it. The chile was huge and had lots of cheese on the inside. The pork tamale was kinda small, but I did not deduct from the stars, because it was delicious. The rice & beans that came with the dish was so flavorful and delicious. The service was excellent and our server was pretty spot on. Very friendly and welcoming, was on top of our drinks. We did not have any dessert, but the next table had a chocolate pinata for their dessert and I took a picture. We will definitely have it next time we visit. read more

My mother and I can in on Sunday 8/18/2024 we ordered fajitas. They were under cooked, the fajitas were not sizzling like the other experiences I have had with uncle Julio's. Our server brought management over, we spoke to her asked her multiple times to take the food back and we wanted a fresh order. She not only did not take the food back like we asked, she brought over a side order of fajitas and she charged me for it. Would not recommend anyone come here almost $100 spent for 2 plates of under cooked fajitas, the second plate of fajitas she brought were again undercooked not sizzling either. We brought up the quality of the chicken fajitas, which was mostly skin and under cooked, borderline pink and sh deflected to the point to where I didn't feel comfortable eating anything there. Very good food here. Even on a busy night, our server was helpful and super nice! I tipped well but the prices were a little expensive for my taste. We went there for Father's Day, and it was great! Service was solid, but the food was incredible. I had quesadillas, and they were great - just enough cheese and not too much. I added black beans and they got it right. The desert was the best part! Literally - the best desert I've had in my life. The chocolate pinata was fun to break, and it dropped onto a big tray with raspberry sauce, chocolate sauce, and I think butterscotch sauce. Everyone who comes to texas wants either Mexican or BBQ, usually both. This is the gold standard in TexMex. Music is good. Drinks are great. Menu selections/food is authentic. Uncle Julio's is a popular Tex Mex restaurant in Dallas that specializes in fajitas and a chocolate piñata dessert. You can get Tex Mex anywhere in DFW, but only Uncle Julio's will let you take a wooden hammer to a chocolate piñata & break into the goodies inside. My Overall Rating - 3 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - If you drive up and down the Dallas North Tollway you've probably driven by the large, colorfully lit sign that points down. Uncle Julio's does a great job setting the atmosphere and makes you feel like you're in a Mexican restaurant. Vibrant blue tiles, stucco, and plenty of seating here. On our weeknight dinner, they were pretty busy. 1 Star. Service - Our server has very good. Fast & friendly, he was very helpful and very nice to our party. He made plenty of recommendations and checked on us often. As a bonus, he was great with kids in case that's important to you. 1 Star. Food - Atmosphere is great, service is great, food is just ok. We started with the queso and guacamole appetizer. The queso reminded me of nacho cheese you can buy at the grocery store & then guac was served on a bed of shredded lettuce which made up about a third of the guac. We ordered the beef & chicken fajitas & added shrimp. You know that sizzle sound/smell that accompanies a fajita platter when brought out? Ours didn't have that. I think it was sitting out too long before being served. Now I will say their tortillas are excellent. Light and fluffy - these helped rescue an otherwise average order of fajitas. I had to fight through a subpar meal to get to the true star of Uncle Julio's: The Chocolate Piñata. It's as awesome as it sounds. The piñata itself is a hollow chocolate ball filled with fresh fruit (pineapple, blackberries, raspberries) and mini churros. It's served on a large platter with melted chocolate, caramel, whipped cream, and fruit sauce. They give you a wooden hammer so you can bust the piñata open. It's a great communal dessert that easily serves 4 - 6 people. At the end of the day, this is a Tex Mex restaurant and unfortunately I not a fan. 1/2 Star. Will I Return? - Only for the chocolate piñata. I think there are much better restaurants in the DFW area serving fajitas, queso, and guacamole. But only Uncle Julio's serves that piñata. If I do come back, it's only because I need to let out some pent up aggression and eat some churros. 1/2 Star. My Yelp Rating Scale (Sum of all parts): 1 Star - Atmosphere - Is it a cool dive? Perhaps an upscale place? No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I'll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm. 1 Star - Service - You can have a great meal with bad service. But that's also what can make a five-star joint drop to four. It's important to the dining experience that service is great and on point. 2 Stars - Food - I'll award up to two stars for the food, since this is the main reason we dine out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it's really all about the food. 1 Star - Will I come back? - If I know for a fact I'll return, I'll give this a star. This restaurant is amazing . First the customer service is awesome and our waiter Anthony was exceptional! This is our first time to eat there and he recommended a few dishes which were perfect . The fajitas were so tender and the taste was so satisfying. I love that the restaurant manager stopped by our table and made sure our food was to our satisfaction and even went out of her way to ask if we lived in the area and if we enjoyed our first visit here... If not for the chocolate piñata, I don't see a reason to go back. 1 star for the piñata and 1 star for the staff that was working pretty hard, although def not enjoying it. Fajitas didn't sizzle, table side guacamole wasn't prepared tableside and overall underwhelming. Easily 9 out of 10 tables order the piñata so it's a special occasion restaurant with one signature item. The piñata isn't all that exciting as they drop it with a stick that a lot of other people use too. Nothing exciting about the delivery or celebration of it. I came in expecting really good food cause i had never heard about this place or heard if it was good or not but from the start the place let me down. Yesterday we went to have lunch there for the chocolate piñata. First I want to give a huge thanks to our server Desmond. He took an amazing care of our family, wore gloves the whole time serving, which is important because this was our first time eating out with our son( who has cancer). Consistently the dirtiest bar I see in any restaurant in town. I have noticed that the bar is never clean... several times I have eaten here in the last several months. Every time, i have to proactively ask someone to clean. Even when they aren't busy, there is no one cleaning after people eat. Dirty dishes sit there for an hour. It's gotten so bad that I actually walked in tonight, saw it trashed, no one was cleaning, so I walked out. Very disappointed... Been here quite a few times. While this is not true Mexican its tex-mex almost as good as it gets. The freshly prepared guacamole has few equals, do yourself a favor and order a large even if you're alone. The warm flour tortillas are turned out continuously - you even see the process in action if you're close enough. It's sad to think there are some places still tryin to pass off that Mission fodder. I make it a habit to stay away from items surrounded by an orange oil slick, which eliminates much of pg 1. Tacos al carbon or grill platters are the can't-go-wrongs here, whether its the chicken/beef fajitas + something or the 'something' by itself: Jalisco - grilled jumbo shrimp Guadalajara - grilled shrimp brochettes, bacon wrapped stuffed with jack and jalapeno, even better than they sound La Paloma - grilled quail, interesting change if you don't mind eating around the bones The chicken is tender and never overdone, and the beef is some of the best for fajitas I've had. This is one of my favorite lunch spots. Very similar to Pappasitos. I think there is a relation there somehow. The chips and salsa are great and the quest and guacamole are too. Pretty easy to get a table anytime but typically fairly crowded. The fajitas are awesome - thick cuts of steak or chicken and great homemade tortillas. read more

Had lunch here on the company dime yesterday. To be blunt: I'm glad I didn't pay for it. Starting off with chips and salsa, the former were crisp if a little greasy, the latter was chunky (albeit small chunks) and reasonably good. Queso didn't seem too far removed from Velveeta, but at least had some peppers in it. For my entree, I ordered the Guadelejara, shrimp en brochette with jalapeno, cheese and wrapped in bacon, accompanied by combination fajitas. The price for this dish was over $20, but it looked like a lunch portion. Three shrimp, not too small but not huge, either, with no sign of the advertised cheese (but a cup of drawn butter was provided). Modest portion of beef (a little tough) and even less chicken (fairly bland), grilled onions (nice) and one lonely small grilled jalapeno (spicy and tasty). No bell peppers or other "greenery". Guacamole was fairly basic but decently tasty, sour cream and cheese were just basic institutional stuff, as was the rice, but beans had a nice flavor. The flour tortillas were pretty good, although I've gotten spoiled on the corn and lighter, smaller flour tortillas from the local area taquerias, so they seemed large and dense to me. Honestly, the shrimp were pretty good, and probably saved this from being a two star review. That, and when I did actually roll up a fajita with some jalapeno and all of the fixins, it wasn't too bad, even though the ingredients didn't seem to shine by themselves. If it weren't for the taquerias, I'd wonder if I was just falling out of love with Tex Mex, but I think the answer is that I'm just becoming more discriminating, and I'm sorry to say, I don't think some of these older places are trying as hard as they used to; I first went here probably 15 years ago or more, and I remembered it being much better. read more

My wife and I had been meaning to try Uncle Julio's for awhile now, however, I'm not sure we will be returning anytime soon. The good: we had made a reservation at the incorrect location downtown but were able to be seated immediately at the Addison location. The hostess was very friendly. We got a round of drinks that took a very long time to arrive. Then we ordered a guac that our waiter forgot about until we mentioned it when we were ordering entrees. The food came quickly, however, we had finished our initial beers and did not have water or anything to drink at the table. It took us a long time to get ahold of someone and eventually the manager came and bailed out the server who apparently had gotten busy with something. The bacon wrapped shrimp were delicious as were the carnitas tacos but the strange service experience left much to be desired. Once the manager intervened things got better but it was very odd to have our initial server disappear. First off, I love this chain. The food is wonderful. I will always put this on my go to list. This review was this location which was a disappointment in seating and service. Took a group from work to lunch. Not a ginormous one, but 7. They put is in the back which was fine. Coming in there was a SEA of tables do close together that I would have left had they tried to put me and my family at one of those tables. They were in a diamond pattern so the corners were like a foot apart. Really. The service was great on fluids, but the waiter was like "here's a group, I'm going to up sell." At each order there was a strong upswell push. You have a group go somewhere else. We got the guacamole which was divine. My friend said it was the best he's had in ages and he gets it a lot. It was good but I'm not an expert. I had the fish tacos. The first was perfect. The second had half the fish missing that the first had so I left half the tortilla behind. This is my wife's favorite Mexican restaurant. We find ourself here often. I find it very good as well. When you go, our recommendations are: Queso Non-frozen Sangria (Yummmm) Tamales Juanitas Platter My only complaint with this place is their salsa. It has an overly smoky flavor. My friends love it. It doesn't suit me that well though. Wish they had at least one other type of salsa. TIP. We find sitting in the bar area to be quieter and more relaxing than the dining room. read more

He insisted I came up there right away (which wasn't easy for me hence DoorDash). After getting frustrated that I wouldn't come right up there for the remake... he finally agreed to let me come up there another day.... But didn't ask my name or number and hung up quickly before I could even ask how the process works for remakes. $40 for Combo fajitas for ONE (with DoorDash fees) for some of the worst fajitas of my life.
