I've wanted to try Uncle Julio's for some time but I should have read the reviews first. It took forever for a server to come to our table. Our food was timely but nothing special for the high $$$ pricing. We were there for lunch and just had soft drinks. Don't ask for soft drinks to go because they don't do that. Uncle Julio's is a beautiful restaurant, very nice welcoming from the hostess, but my husband and I didn't get past that point. Our visit on a mid-afternoon weekday, an unusually gorgeous St Louis day, was perfect for outside dining. Uncle Julio's appears to have an attractive outdoor seating area, but we were told it isn't open during the day. We thanked the hostess and left. She said she hoped to see us next time. We politely explained we wouldn't be back. We're still in a Pandemic, fully vaccinated, with boosters, but can't yet risk crowds or in door dining. We then drove through the attached parking lot to a restaurant that was serving outdoors. The service there was not great, but we enjoyed our meal, and thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors on the patio. Our server was friendly, and we could see she was clearly assigned too many tasks and roles. The slow service wasn't her fault. It's hard to feel sorry for restaurants like Uncle Julio's who no doubt face the same worker shortages, supply delays and fewer dining guests during the Pandemic. Restaurant management has to acknowledge they are a service industry. Turning afternoon guests away because of a ridiculous outdoor non-seating policy is not good business practice or judgement, anytime, especially during these difficult times. Had we chosen to eat in doors a server would have been assigned. Alternate servers and use management to accommodate outdoor diners. Paying servers a living wage and offering medical benefits might attract more new hires and retain current employees. We don't mind doing our share by over tipping, but guests can't compensate for inadequate employees salaries. All businesses have issues and problems. This problem at least has a relatively easy solution. We wish Uncle Julio's well. We don't need any more businesses closing. More money circulating in our communities will help. Restaurants remembering they are in the service industry is a good step forward. read more

Uncle Julio's is my favorite restaurant to go to when visiting family in Texas, so I was thrilled to hear that they were opening up close to home! It was well worth the wait!!! All of the food is DELICIOUS, the drinks are tasty and the staff is so friendly!! The fresh tortillas are YUMMY, and the "yellow" queso is a must try! The salsa reminds me of Chevy's salsa and the chips came out warm, crunchy and salted to perfection!! We will definitely be back and will tell everyone we know to try it! The food was good, but I ordered a grapefruit margarita and when I noticed there was a gnat in it, I told the waitress and she just looked at me. I don't know whether she understood me or not. Food was fair. No real flavor to combination steak & chicken nachos, which were 3 taco shells broken in half with small amount of melted cheese & cubed chicken & cubed steak. About one tablespoon of guacamole, one table spoon of pico, & 2 table spoons of fresh greens. Went here for the first time last night. I got the chicken & steak fajitas & they were the best I've ever had, the chips & salsa were good, too. My husband got the carnita tacos. They were good too, except there was more on there than the menu said: onions & avocado, which he doesn't like. They brought us a dirty glass, which took a while to replace & brought the wrong side out for my husband's order. The patio was great. This could have been my new go-to place but at the end of the meal, our server brought the bill, which was like a tablet that you fill out. Instead of leaving it on the table for us to fill out, he hovered the entire time. The option asks you if you want to leave 20% & if you don't, you have to subtract it, which he had to right in front of our nice, but hovering server. Based on the food, I'll likely give this place another try in the future, but I'm hoping that someone will talk to the staff about their hovering employees. Had everything gone well, the server would have received 20% or more, but it was far from a perfect experience. read more

Ole! This place is INSANELY delicious. Certain elements - particularly the cheese and onion enchiladas - remind me of Chuy's from Dogtown (R.I.P.). Salsa and chips were perfect. Guacamole was freshly made and delicious. The tortillas are made in house, too! Two things, hands down, were outta sight. Was just at cousin Julio's for lunch today. Don't think we will ever be back. First of all we were seated in a room that was boiling hot! We had to ask to have the heat turned down and a window opened , it was so uncomfortable. We then waited 5 minutes before our server appeared to take drink orders. I ordered an Arnold Palmer and my friends each Ordered beers. I was told they did not have lemonade and had been out for several days. ( this was at lunch time). My friends waited over 20 minutes to get their beers and had to ask the server about it. We then waited over an hour for our meal! We ordered 3 different kinds of tacos, not an unusual order. Normally Mexican restaurants are very quick with a food order, this was ridiculous. Restaurant was not crowded at all. No one bothered to explain why our meal was taking so long. If we had known, we would not have stayed. Once our meal arrived I found the fish tacos soggy, shells were limp. Our meals included a side of rice and beans, but the sides were not consistent. One person received black beans and two received pinto beans. We were not asked our preference. This place is definitely not worth returning to. read more

We have been to uncle Julio's 4 times now. Each time has been terrible. The first time we went, our server was so odd we complained to corporate (never heard anything from them btw). She kept coming over to the table to tell us she couldn't serve my brother (he's 26 years old) any more drinks after he had ONE margarita. He kept asking for a beer or another drink and she would bring the whole table drinks except him. It was SO odd. (He was not drunk at all or acting inebriated). 2nd time it took over an hour for food (which was honestly terrible, but this was our best experience and that's not saying a lot). Our last (and final) experience was also less than fabulous. Our server took a long time to get drinks and food ordered. Then when we finally did order, every table around us got their food before us (even though we ordered before them). It took an hour and a half to get food. They brought out one entree first, then everyone else sat entree-less for 30 minutes. Our server never apologized for how long it took and kept avoiding coming back to our table. (We are all industry people and know things happen, but I hate to keep supporting this business when they don't seem to care how terrible things are). We weren't able to eat there because of the wait. We wanted an outside table. There were several tables outside open but the hostess explained that they were reserved which is understandable. We decided to make a reservation for an outside table at a future date. However, on-line you can only reserve inside tables and if you call, you are instructed to make your reservation on-line. We had a reservation but still had to wait about twenty minutes. We were given chips and salsa immediately and our server greeted us right away. We did not order drinks. We order the chicken and steak fajitas for two. The meat was hot, tender and juicy with a tad bit of char broil on top. It was very good. Fajitas came with warm tortillas, rice and beans, and guacamole, shredded cheeses, sour cream and a tomato salsa. Our server checked on us multiple times, as well as what we assume was a manager. Fabulous lunch at Uncle Julio's today! My husband had their signature Carne Asada and proclaimed it outstanding. The hot platter and sizzling veggies under the steak kept everything hot and wonderful. My friend had the chicken Tortilla Bowl and loved it (and had enough leftovers for another meal). I tried the fish tacos which were also wonderful. The house made guac was the best I've ever had. Service was outstanding, even as busy as they were. (Our server was from Texas, adding to the ambience.) The manager, Jason Padilla, stopped by our table to ensure that we were being well taken care of along with the front of house manager. It was too early in the day for us to try their margaritas and sangria margarita, but that just gives me an excuse to go back for dinner! We had dinner reservations for 2 people but had a 10-15 minute wait. Once seated we were greeted by our waitress and drink orders taken. Chips and salsa and water cups brought right away but our drinks took more than 10 minutes. Then we waited another 10 minutes to place our food order. Then our food took a good 30 minutes to arrive. We had ordered a chicken quesadilla and chicken fajita bowl. We made the mistake of ordering dessert that took another 20 minutes. The server kept telling us how the kitchen was slow and screwing her over. Our glasses went empty several times and we had to flag her down for refills. The food itself was fine but unimpressive, your average Tex-Mex. Overall extremely slow, inattentive service for food you can find anywhere. First time here and the restaurant has a nice ambiance. Friendly staff and good service. Unfortunately, the food was a disappointment. My litmus test is usually the chips and salsa. The chips were light and crispy but the salsa was spicy yet flavorless, lacking any fresh tastiness. I couldn't eat it. We might be guacamole snobs because we like to make our own but there's had too much garlic or onion. Hard to tell. Our party of four was underwhelmed with their meals.. not finishing them for their lack of flavor. We love Mexican food and had heard this was a good place but will not be returning. When eating in the food is good. We went to Uncle Julios often when we lived in another city, and since they opened here we have gone or carried out often. The last three carry out orders had issues (forgotten food, cold food, extremely delayed order up to 40 minutes). We recently tried carry out again after a long break and they forgot one of three orders and gave us the wrong accompaniment to one of the meals (taco shell instead of chips). The staff is really nice but by the time we got the rest of our order and got home less than 5 minutes away, the other two meals were cold and the crunchy taco shell totally disintegrated. They used to pack taco ingredients separately so this was not a problem. PLEASE fix these problems because we did enjoy eating there before these errors started. read more

They are always out of some ingredients that is on their menu, and they need to replace one thing for another. This is a Mexican restaurant how can you be out of lime or mint? Beautiful looking restaurant and great location but service and food were very bad. It is very apparent that the servers are not really trained well. Sat down for lunch with my family and it took about 8 minutes before we were asked if we wanted drinks. Waitress disappeared for another 5 minutes and then came back with our drinks so we decided to order. I got the chicken fajitas. I did not see the server for 20 minutes until the order came. First they set down my sizzling fajitas. 5 minutes later my tortillas arrived and the fajitas were cold by this time. 5 minutes later came the cheese sour cream and guacamole. I was livid. Everything was cold. Refried beans were terrible and rice was also cold. You would think that they had never served a fajita meal. I've had much better meals at Taco Bell. To recap, nice looking restaurant with terrible food and service. Servers not trained properly and it was a crappy experience. I will not be going back. read more
