My co worker had a house margarita and I had the El Hefe. Shaker for El Hefe ends up giving you two full drinks. Chips and salsa were very fresh and tasty. Dinner was Ceviche and then Cheese and Onion Enchiladas. All good. Service was good throughout. My only note is all surfaces needed a good dust and scrub. A group of us went on margarita day on a Saturday night. We had 730 reservations but were not seated until 8. Our server came and told us how busy they were. Took our drink order and it seemed to take a while to get the drinks. After a while the server came back and took our order. It took somewhere between 45 minutes to an hour to get our order and they got my daughter's order completely wrong. The food was excellent loved the Smokey salsa sauce for the chips. I had chicken fajitas and they were awesome. The service was terrible, I'm not sure why, we were in a back room away from the main areas. Even when the server came into our area, she never checked on us, no water or drink refills. The server was not unfriendly they just didn't pay attention. I came here one night for dinner with my family and their red salsa is yummy. Their brown salsa was smokey. Their beans are sort of like black bean chili. We had quesadillas for an appetizer. We arrived at around 4:00 PM on a Saturday night. There were maybe 5 tables full which should have been our first clue. We didn't speak to a server for over 30 minutes after being seated, and only received service after one of our party got up to ask for service. Our waiter wasn't even informed that we were his table, and no one was checking on us so we could've easily been waiting all night. Our waiter was polite, but didn't check on us once of his own volition the entire meal. We got one refill and that was after multiple attempts of flagging him down, because he was also bussing tables. One of our drink orders was incorrect, and with zero check-ins, it was impossible to correct without getting up again and bothering someone else. Service was a snails pace, even for the very few people who were dining here on a Saturday night. It was one of those experiences where you feel like you need to ration your drink because you don't know when you'll get a refill. We waited for maybe an hour and a half before our food arrived. We saw more than one person from other tables get up to ask for service, one of which appeared to leave out of frustration. The fajitas were over $24 for an individual and was probably the worst fajita I've ever had, not worth $15. There are many other reviews that share these problems and they have not been resolved. It's a shame because the location is attractive and the ambiance would have been a cool experience if the food was even average tex-mex quality and average service. My first impression was the place was decorated very nice, I felt as though I had gone to Mexico. The chips were warm, salty and delicious and the salsa was very good, I had to think twice about ordering anything else. My entree was the carnitas fajitas for one. Was excited to try this place as it had been recommended, but wasn't impressed and don't plan on returning anytime soon. We were sat right away. Our server was extremely nice but lacked basic server knowledge. My water cup sat empty for a long time. I had to ask for a refill. By that time the other guests water was now empty. Server was apologetic again. Long story short, service wasn't great. Food wise- I wanted to order fajitas. I told I could get steak and shrimp fajitas. The menu at baseline is overpriced. I didn't realize the up charge until I got my bill but I was charged $27.50 for my fajitas. And the kicker was that the steak was RAW! The fajita plate was extremely hot when served so I as able to personally cook my steak on the cast iron it was served on. I'd recommend sticking with shrimp. The steak cut also ate fatty. The salsa is smokey- not my preference, but per each their own. The margarita of the month was a blood orange margarita. It was delicious! Also once the other patron got her quesadilla- it was delightful. It was stuffed with good portion of sour cream and guacamole. I'd recommend ordering this over the fajitas. The queso was really good. Only issue was that we ran out of chips and took extended period of time to get more, by that time queso was cold. Also to note it wasn't crowded at all. Uncle Julio's is a chain, and I was so excited to see this restaurant open in St. Louis! This place probably has the best, upscale Mexican food in town. Some of my favorite items are the fajitas and the prepared to order guacamole. The fajitas come with everything you need - sour cream, guac, cheese, tomatoes, beans, rice, veggies, you name it. I've tried the shrimp, chicken, and beef for the fajitas, and all three are great! Flavorful, tender, and decently portioned. The prepared to order guacamole is so moreish. This was our first time trying Uncle Julio's and we will definitely be back! When we pulled into the parking lot we thought they were closed because the patio was empty and it was hard to see if there was anyone inside. (It was almost 10 pm) when we arrived. My husband decided to get out and just check to see if they were open and I'm so glad that he did. The decor inside was beautiful. We sat in a booth at the bar and my husband noted how comfortable the booths were. I agree and I loved the look of them as well. The lighting was a bit dim for me so it made it a little difficult for me to see the menu. I wear glasses and my husband does not and he didn't have a problem so it's just my old eyes causing problems. Once seated our waiter quickly greeted us and took our drink orders. He told us the specials for the night and even offered his recommendations which was nice. He was very friendly and attentive. Onto the food. My husband ordered queso with ground beef and asked for it to come with our meal because we were splitting the fajitas I ordered. Our server brought it out a few minutes before the meal because he didn't want it to get so. I appreciate that he did that and made sure we were able to enjoy it and not be served cold queso dip. The fajitas I ordered came just a few minutes after the dip and they were soooo good! I loved the entire plate. The barbaco meat was so flavorful. I loved that they had zucchini and squash in with the fajita vegetables. The dish is also served with beans and cilantro lime rice. I am a big fan of beans and I was expecting refried beans but what came out was black beans and oh my goodness were they good! They reminded me a bit of a smoky, spicy chili. I loved them. The cilantro lime rice was also good but the beans were the winner for me on that plate. The fajitas were also served with sides of sour cream, cheese and guacamole and they guacamole was excellent.
