Didn't enjoy this place. Hostess has as much personality as a turtle. Was there around 8pm. Got the swirl drink and it was soooooo small and watery which was crazy for 9bucks!! I ordered the enchilada combo beef and chicken with the 2 cream sauces. Just so bland. My mom got the shrimp tacos. That habanero sauce they put on them was good she said. Aunt got the soft chicken tacos and she said they were not seasoned and very bland. I won't be returning. The high prices don't match what u get. read more

Chips were great, salsa was ok (a little too spicy for me). Rest of the meal did not meet expectations, especially for what we paid. Hubs got the steak fajitas ($20) and didn't even eat half of it cause it didn't taste good. A friend and I were hungry after seeing a movie at Yorktown. We were in the mood for Mexican food and decided on uncle Julios. I have never been there before. We walked in and were "greeted" by a very unhappy hostess. I asked for a table for two. She sat us right away. She sat us at a table but my friend and I prefer booths (we are a little picky). I asked for an empty booth a step away. She rolled her eyes and places the menus on the table and walked away. We both were put off by this behavior. But our server turned around our attitude. He was nice and bubbly. He told us about the fresh watermelon margarita which we both order. It was great. Light and fresh. We ordered the fajitas for two. But our food came out 10 minutes later. Which was really weird. We were ok with it because we were hungry. But we wanted more time to relax. Our last little "uh oh" was when another set of margaritas were charged on our bill. We advised our waiter, he seemed annoyed but took care of it. The fajitas were good. The chicken was seasoned and the veggies were crisp. We each got aides to ourselves. Also, our server came around a few times to check that we had fresh tortillas. Which was appreciated. Not sure if I would go back. I would prefer el famous burrito. read more

Wait staff was no where to be found when we ran out of chips...twice. Needed refill on drinks, again no one in sight. Only 4 flour shells brought to table with 4 people eating fajitas. Waited till the food was cold to get more flour shells. My margarita was zero alcohol because I had two and felt nothing. I'm so disappointed today!! This place is one of my favorites. Great food and great service, but the food tonight was disappointing. We ordered take out, two fajita meals and the bacon wrapped Camarones. The fajita meals were good, my filet was still red on two pieces but I managed. The bacon wrapped Camarones were almost inedible. The bacon was raw on multiple shrimp and was sooo chewy it wasn't just chewy bacon it wasn't cooked at all. Recently I went alone to Uncle Julio's in Lombard, IL for lunch. The one thing that I can mention that was exceptional was the service provided to me by Matt, my server. He was attentive, professional, polite, personable and even great at anticipating my needs before I made them known. I unfortunately must report far less satisfaction regarding other aspects of my visit however. Regarding the ladies room, even though it was early in the day, it was dimly lit, did not smell sanitized and was not in the best condition to receive customers. The decor in the ladies room is dark to very dark and therefore difficult to determine true cleanliness. Regarding the food, the chips were thin, mild in flavor and fragile, the salsa was not very flavorful and my steak meat for the fajitas I ordered was stringy (it was too difficult to bite through so I cut it into bite size pieces in order to eat it in my tortilla) and had a faint flavor of what I would describe as being like the smell of propane gas. There were no burrito options on the menu either. I was not going to review my experience as I was hoping that I had just dined on an off day for this restaurant but since I received a request from this restaurant for a review, I elected to convey my concerns. Finally, for the amount of money I spent for lunch which was just under $30 (Fajitas, a non alcoholic specialty drink, tax and a 20% tip for Matt's excellent service), I will not return to Uncle Julio's again for any meal. I am sorry for having to be so negative; I wish it had been better as I do not like to complain. read more

This place is as good as it gets for authentic Mexican food, besides having to drive into the city (Pilsen or Little Village). I've been to this place numerous times and I have never been disappointed. From the amazing chips and salsa (I always buy xtra to go before leaving), to their AMAZING Carne Asada (juicy and melts in your mouth!), to their delicious "Chiles Rellenos" (Stuffed Poblano Peppers). Everything here is delicious and pretty authentic -- especially for being in the burbs and out of "the barrio." Is it cheap? No, not really. But, look at the location, the restaurant, the nice bar and you're in the middle of corporate companies and by Oak Brook. Location, location, location. And the atmosphere is nice. I lived by O'Hare before and would drive to Lombard all the time. Now, I live in Plainfield, and we still drive to "Uncle Julio's! " It's definitely worth the drive. If you're lookn for cheap prices and good food, you'll have to drive to "the barrio" (Pilsen/18th street or Little Village/26 Street) and good luck finding parking! ;) Oh...you can also go to "Lalos" in Berwyn -- but same thing, good luck finding parking. And...there is also "Los Comales" who has my favorite authentic small Mexican steak tacos. Now I'm hungry! read more

I have to say I got the carnita tacos beans and rice with a monitor and it was good but not $35 good. I felt like the food was overpriced for regular tasting food. I probably wouldn't go back to eat there except for one thing.. the chocolate piñata. Holy cow, it's a ball of chocolate with churro, strawberries, and donut holes in it. Our first mistake was trying this place on Father's Day. We were seated in a timely fashion but didn't see our waiter for 10 minutes and they weren't even busy. From there, things only got slower. We had to flag them down to remind them to take our order and when the food came out, it came out in pieces. Some of us got partial orders. For example; fajitas without the tortillas. Overall, the food was okay. Nothing special for the price, although the chips and salsa were great. It's a good thing we had 45 minutes of chips and salsa before some of the food showed up. Terrible service. We were seated next to a very large and loud group and crammed up against the wall. When asked for another table we were told we couldn't be moved because we were "assigned the table" and it couldn't be changed. People who came in long after us had drinks AND their meals before we even had our drinks. The food was not hot but tasty. We should have left right away but tried not to be upset over not being moved when we asked. It went down hill from there. My girlfriend and I came here and weren't too impressed at all. Food is okay but very pricey. I had the chicken and steak fajitas which was alright. She had the chicken tacos and the chicken was fatty. They even screwed up her order because she was suppose to get the chicken fajitas. For the price they charge you definitely should be getting better quality food. I would have to say that the guacamole was very tasty though. But even the portion size of the guacamole was sooo small. They try and put lettuce underneath the guacamole to make it look larger. Like really?!?! Staff and service is excellent! We rarely have had to wait for a table and the place is clean and set up well. The chips are fresh and the guacamole is made well. I get the mixed sangria and LOVE it. Lee likes the margarita on the rocks and as he says, is made "perfectly." The food is priced well, filling and tasty! I love the veggie fajitas and Lee likes the steak fajitas. It's nice to have this restaurant out in the suburbs so that we dont need to venture through city traffic. Highly recommend going to Uncle Julios when you are craving mexican! As others have said, its not really authentic mexican, but it is really good and they try as hard as possible to make it as authentic as possible. Pretty good Mexican restaurant. Been here several times and have always gotten the fajitas (for 2 or 3) and there is enough usually to have leftovers. The rest of the menu looks good and I'm sure its fine. The service is average, nothing to write home about but no complaints. The chili con queso dip is excellent. I know its just melted cheese in a bowl but they make it well. The chips and salsa is good, we try to take some to go. My only complaint is that they don't offer any type of burrito which is disappointing for a burrito when going to a Mexican restaurant. read more

I can honestly say that I've had better tacos at Taco Bell! Our food was brought to our table only after 5 minutes after we ordered. This tells me that everything is all ready cooked and just has to be assembled in the back. Not the freshest. Also, what Mexican restaurant doesn't have burritos on their menu? Very disappointed that they don't offer any kind of burrito. The closest thing to a burrito, the server suggested, was the soft taco platter. The hot sauce is the same kind you can buy at the grocery store. The chips were decent and the service was okay and that's why I'm giving it 2 stars. This restaurant use to be my favorite; however, I went back and everything has changed . Food was so spicy , to much strong condiments that weren't there before. Carne asada tasted very strong as mesquite; I couldn't enjoy the meat flavor. Beans and rice had some strong condiments that made it almost imposible to eat. It Is definitely a far cry from the original uncle Julios on north ave..as this is what my review is being compared to..chips and salsa came out cold usually they are both warm.. me and my wife both ordered carne Asada hers was medium well and came out well done with no flavor.i ordered medium and I was fantastic but it for the sides fell short bean soup and rice just weren't what am used to along with a teaspoon of guacamole compared to the usual dollop and no grilled jalapeño came on the plate as it usually does .there flour tortillas are always good but nothing compares to the north ave location..not a bad spot if ur in the Area but I'm used to the finer qualities of other location.. read more

Terrible service. We went there because we heard that food was great...it was tasty but nothing spectacular. The guac was delicious. Our table of 9 was neglected for 2 hrs. We had to ask for our refills, and ask to place an order after we were long done with our appetizers. When food finally came, we then had to figure out whom ordered what food because the servers didn't know what was on the plates they were serving. Some orders were on cooler side. When we decided to share our experience with the manager, she said she will come back to us and speak to us, yet she never did. We then had to clear our own plates to the side to make room for dessert. Upon leaving, we sought the manager once again, who was completely unfazed with our experience and unapologetic. I love the Swirl drink they have (combination of sangria and frozen margarita). The fajitas are definitely delicious, too. What brings me back every time are their homemade tortillas. These tortillas are pillows of soft happiness. The prices are what deter me from going too often, though. I think their prices are so high mainly due to their location, which is unfortunate. read more
