Just terrific! Everything was fresh, cooked perfectly and piping hot. Very personable staff took great care of us. Cajun Tilapia was delicious and more than I could finish...and that is a rare thing indeed. Fried okra was best I ever had, same for the collard greens. They have couple if TVs tuned to sports events. It's clearly a neighborhood institution based on all the friendly greetings exchanged. AND they deliver now! My only quibble was that all of the dishes were a bit salty for my taste. Next time, and there will be one, I'll ask if they can hold off a bit. read more

This place is amazing! The food and service are both great. They make you feel welcome and taken care of from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave. Every bite of food I had was delicious, but the fried green tomatoes were the best I've ever had! And then add that sauce with it ...I know I'm going to be craving them until I get back to Chattanooga! I really liked that you could pick the seasoning on each piece of fish. I got the perch with one Cajun and the other two regular. White beans, hush puppies, and onion rings rounded out my meal. My husband got the catfish with fried okra... I kept sneaking bites from his plate too because it was all so good! My one and half year old daughters loved the cucumber salad and ate pretty much all of it off their Mimi's plate. Prices are fair and the portions are large and served fresh and hot! Fish is fried to a golden brown with a corn meal crust. They offer a few types of fish to choose from. What a gem! We visited the Chattanooga area this week and love to find mom and pop restaurants. Well - in this case - Uncle Larry's. It was amazing. We are a big family - 7 of us. We ordered the family pack and fried green tomatoes. It was more than enough to feed us! Matter of fact - we could have boxed part of it up for later! I'm not a huge fan of fried fish, but I loved Uncle Larry's fried tilapia. The onion rings were excellent as well. The batter is just enough and is just oh so good! Niece recommended we stop there, when we said we were going to Chattanooga. Let me start by saying this is a hole in the wall - we drove past it two times before we found it. If you are looking for fine dining with tablecloths and china this ISN'T IT! But it is so worth it! Walked in, had a seat, Terrell (related to Uncle Larry somehow) came over and asked us if this was our first time. We said yes and then we were off to the races. He was so personable and explained about the food and what was included. He recommended Catfish - so we had catfish! You can have it regular breading, lemon pepper breading or Cajun. We ordered one each of regular and lemon pepper. PLUS two sides. They have lots of southern favorites (fried okra, greens, cucumber salad - which I had YUM) or fries, onion rings (husband had). Then the fish came. OMG it was HUGE. Two planks. Well Terrell said they messed up because we got one lemon pepper and one cajun plank. He said the regular was coming. Imagine our surprise when we each received another regular plank and another lemon pepper (he didn't like the way they had prepared it the first time). The fish was flavorful, hot, fresh, crispy and delicious. (the side were great too). And Hush Puppies (be still my heart). To say we were in a fish coma by the end is an understatement. I had the fried catfish plate and it was two nice sized pieces. They were cooked perfectly with a good batter. I also had the fried okra which was good. Very unprofessional staff. Waitress was asking what I wanted to drink from quite a distance behind me and was not even sure who she was asking what they wanted to drink. Cashier carried on a conversation with another person while paying. My order was incorrect but they did fix that. They do not respect customers and the whiting fish was bland and had hardened ends of breading. Homemade tartar sauce was awful tasting. I tracked the smell down to Uncle Larry's and caught a customer going in and asked him about the place and what I should get. Well the guy was nice as could be, helped me pick out what he likes - combo plate, coleslaw, tomato and cucumber salad. I couldn't tell which fish was which really but it didn't matter. I got the stuff to go and sort of ate it as I walked, hoping no one was going to come try to take my food or I would have to fight them. Everything was delicious. The fish was a tad bit salty to me, my one star knock. Otherwise everything was great. I could go back now and get a quart of that tomato and cucumber salad it was that good. You cannot get better fried catfish anywhere! I ordered at the Brainerd Road restaurant and noticed how many customers were ordering at 3 pm on a cold Saturday afternoon. My food was done withing the timeframe specified. I had a hard time waiting until I got home to eat - the fish smelled so good! Wonderful greens and fried okra, but the star is the fried catfish. Very large filets (each about 7x3 inches) were still crispy on the outside and flakey on the inside. None of the fried food was greasy in any way. The hushpuppies were also delicious.
